  1. Yes this also my first idea. A car is also build around a chassis and not by putting 4 wheels on an engine. So a background layer that give your drone shape and provide structure as well as stability sounds great. Sure you can build outside this frame but everything that is on the frame become one (until its destroyed)
  2. This is probably the main part of the game and it is already great fun. I have some minor problems that might need an improvement. Fuel and Energy are not really optional I allays take small tanks and solar/small batteries because the bigger versions have too less use. My suggestion is to remove the "recharge" and split it in container and producer. For example solar panels produce energy and batteries can hold it. Drones can become wobbly and this is a problem of many (physic) building games. My first idea to solve this problem is a structure layer. A background layer that become a single element and hold other elements that are build on top, so they don't need there own physic calculations every time only when the "group" change. The automation section is also a very promising part of the game, this is already very solid and works great with "keys" an alternative idea would be connections so it would be visually understandable but keys are fine. More stuff would be great. Signal: this would be useful for the directional sensor as third option beside gravity and mouse. Sonar: give the distance to the nearest enemy/signal, the simple one can just have 2-3 step range area where they press a key or more complected they send a signal on key press and the player have to measure the ping time. Directional speed meter: only detect speed in one direction. Or maybe acceleration instead of speed? Multiple inputs and/or named variables: "If a then b" is maybe too simple more often you want more then one condition sure you can do it with and/or gates but at the end the available keys can run out (I guess no one has done it yet) Analog signals: nice to have but not the most important but it would give "if a<x then b" more power or control the changeable truster better CPU (have no proper name): The most important usage would be to simulate the mouse and give relative coordinates for targeting or sensors (would probably require analog signals) Constants: with analog signals there would be a need for constants as well
  3. Building drones is fun and I think in the final game there have to be more restriction. One point are the weapons and shields. Some weapons become very quick outdated and (too) many weapons are on turrets. In general the energy cost should be higher and missiles/flamer could cost fuel. The size is also a good starting point for balancing. Turrets could be 2x2 so normal weapons become more interesting, same for missiles (1x2) or flamer (2x1). Shields seem to be too powerful as well, some sort of strength would be good. This make also room for different shield types (stronger, bigger, fast recharge) also kinetic damage protection would be nice.
