  2. I was starting on whale island for the second time, and decided I needed new genes and immunities in my tribe. I sent my female over to a stump and had her call for a mate. Literally the second she called a fully winged nicheling flew over from who knows where and started eating my berries. I nearly flipped my laptop over in excitement (btw the nicheling in the bottom left corner has a weirder name because I'm naming my nichelings after Egyptian gods)

  6. I think it would be great to have more settings for the sandbox mode. For example toggle buttons for all predator types (want to remove rogue males? Just switch them off). Maybe we could also define stuff like "Maximal tribe size" to add some extra challenge or "Maxium age of animals" so our critters can live longer. Or maybe even some special rules like "Only one male allowed in the pack" or "Tribe can only eat meat".

  7. Hi, I what to make a suggestion, Lately I've been playing and one of the problems sometime I have is the "Unlock gene notification", is hard to track which gene you unlock in the menu, so maybe add like a glow feature of something in the gene menu that can show you which gene you unlock. I add an example n,n/ Thanks!

  10. I've been mostly just playing with breeding pairs, breeding them until they give me a compatible pair, then everyone not breeding goes off to scout or get food while the two that will be breeding the next lot move towards the ports. I'll usually have two or three breeding pairs, depending on the number of tiles on the ports. One pair will be collecting, the other is fighters. I really want to play a game where I make it a lot more story driven, but I always find that I end up going back to my default, which makes the game less interesting after awhile. I get too worried about not having pairs that won't make sick babies. People who do challenges and stories always impress me because of that!

  12. Possibly implement a starting planet which after you defeat you claim as your own and can set up defenses and can use the new resources to purchase things to go on the planet such as a Garage which you can fly into and change your vehicle without having to leave the planet. You could also purchase a trade terminal which refreshes every 10+ minutes and has a selection of 3 or so custom items, maybe be able to purchase display cases with enemies encased within as trophy's possibly implement a way to earn them? Also the ability to add defenses could add new weapon types and tech trees specially for conquered planets and also a new game mode such as a ''Gauntlet mode'' similar in style to the survival mode in the arena with ever increasing waves; or possibly a daily attack and dependent on how well you do you gain resources/rewards etc. You could then also possibly set up mines on the planet which collect resources even whilst you're on other planets but the amount of resource on the planet determines the speed at which it is mined and the finite amount is refreshed every 30 minutes in game time? This could also be the enemies goal to destroy in the gauntlet mode. I have many ideas and will gladly let you know when anymore come to mind. To balance this you can only chose 1 maybe 2 planets for this purpose and can not change planets unless they pay a large fee in resources and they lose all progress on the planets and need to begin again.

  14. Allulring smell does sound great, another option could be an Imitator Snout or Beak. Like a lyrebird, the animal would be able to imitate any sound, like for example the calls of the young of its prey

  15. hmmm maybe could add the opposite of stinky tail but maybe an alluring smell? @Jojo

  16. Thanks for reporting! Yes, this is intentional The idea is that wings are an ancient gene. The gene went exstinct (with the exception of animals on Whale Island, where wings are quite common). Sometimes Nichelings fly away from Whale Island, so you have a very low chance of meeting a wanderer with wings ^^

  17. If the "more customization for sandbox mode" gets enough upvotes, maybe we could just have a setting for this?

  18. Hi! yay, Love this game. so I have been thinking about it for a while now, watching people play the game and playing the game myself. There is this, ever so slight, annoying thing that occurs. Remembering characters names is one, and the other is, who am I limiting myself to breed to. This also ties into another problem. As your speeding around your biome, having everyone doing their various tasks, once in a while. as I hover over the "..." and I prepare to, remove grass, leaches, crack a nut, dig a root, or in general, do something on a space that one Nicheling is on with another Nicheling. I occasionally accidentally hit that heart icon instead. That brief moment of cold sweet washes over me as I realize that the resulting baby might be double immunity as I quickly check their genes. I begin the rush of moving the mother far away to a nest away from the tribe. Usually resulting in the sad eventual sick baby that I must leave behind. It occurs to me that if only there had been a way to prevent this accidental twitching click of mine. So I Thought it over, watching the Jessimew videos (It's how I've been learning to play), hearing her referring to mates. I realized then, that it would be an amazing option too actually have a setting in your Nichelings profiles to designate a specific mate if you want one. This way. If your like me, with a trigger finger twitch, even if you hit that dreadful heart, if your accident female or even male already has a specified mate, instead of mating you get a failed breeding message, the reason being, "this female/male is already mated and has rejected you, better luck next time" or something like that. This will only stop you/me from accidentally breeding to a female or male that has a chosen mate I specified. All other aspects of the game would remain the same. And when a mate dies or is on another island, they will automatically drop from the mated menu. I have no art for preview as to how it should look, but this is my idea, Hope you guys like it and think it might work.

  19. I was thinking about it, and I realized how it only seems like the jungle and mountain biome have specialized predators, and any other predator can be found on any island except the home island (I think, as I have run into no predators on home island unless you attack the tribe members) I think it would be neat to have predators for every biome. Like the savanna biome could have a leopard or cheetah based predator that rests in trees, and there would be a maximum of three trees for these predators, meaning how ever many are generated is how many of that predator could be spawned at one time. And then in the swamp you could have crocodile/alligator predators that stay in the water most of the time, and will hunt you tribe if its in the water, and comes out every 10 (random number) days to hunt on land.

  20. Hi folks We plan to run a bunch of GIF competitions in the near future! The first one starts NOW. This is your chance to win one of 3 Steam keys for the Closed Alpha! Here are the rules: - Post your coolest/funniest/cutest (aka most awesome) Nimbatus GIF right here in this thread. - Only GIFs recorded with the demo version are allowed in this competition. - @Roger, @Markus, @Micha and me will pick our 3 favorites. Please note: This competition is now closed. You can use [F9] to generate an animated GIF of the last 6 seconds gameplay, but feel free to use other tools. We maybe show some of these cool gifs on Twitter, Reddit, etc. Please only post here if that's ok with you.

  22. I mean it would prevent for acidentally skiping the day but it would still get anoying for the rest of the days. I think maybe the mesage could pop up whenever a certain % of the gems are not used like it was an acident and not because there's just some gems you don't want to use. For example, there's a few gems that are not used, the message dosn't pop up since it's not that bad anyways/seems intentional. But when there's like half of the gems that are not even used maybe it's an acident so the message pops up. Also maybe you can just desactivate that in the setings if it's still anoying.

  26. That's a really useful suggestion @DreamShark. I often have this problem that the center of mass is not useful as soon as I design detachable satellites. I'm not sure if it's a difficult thing to implement, so I'll have to leave it up to @Micha. But considering that we actually want to encourage people making detachable parts, I think this might be worth spending some time into. Let's see what the future brings

  27. I think it would be quite cool to create a niche in the sandbox mode! basically I think in sandbox mode we should be able to create a niche from the starting genetics and if you think it would be a little to o.p you could make it a 50% chance that you could get what you made. Idk just an idea from a fan x3

  29. Good idea. We are thinking about implementing a Camera-Dronepart, which lets you switch to where the camera focuses. With this you don't need other "small cockpits", but can still have smaller drones swarming around and you can focus the camera on them if you press the right key.

  32. So far in my tribe, I've used one method of breeding for a while that seems to work really well, and keeps the tribe stocked with food and nesting material. In the tribe, I write down the generation (Currently generation N/14) and all of the nichelings born in it, their immunity, gender, and any defects they may have. When all of their parents have stopped breeding (recorded on the page next to it) I start pairing/grouping them up like this (names are examples from my thingy now): Gen N - All members Kuro - F+G Koanasi - I+B Roduk - I+C Asakona - G+D Nukirta - D+G Roskinku - STAR+A Dukkir - G+A, Haemophilia, deformed paw And so on. On the other page, once all of the members of a generation have been born, I do this: Anarasi: F+B - Roduk - Kirnuvan - Duknuvan Roskinku: STAR+A - Koanasi - Asakona - Anarasi - Koana - Israsi Rara: K+E - Kuro - Nukirta - Rokuvan - Dukkaru The way this works is that I've divided up the land into parts that have a lot of natural nests in close proximity, each with a colour assigned to it. I've explored all of the land on the island I'm on, so this is a lot easier to manage (Even though the nesting areas are often packed with nichelings). Traits aren't big to me yet, since I don't have the most recent update/s for some reason, only survival ones matter. After a long time of breeding lone animals with haemophilia, blind eyes, and deformed paws, I have completely gotten rid of them! Almost all of my animals have good eyesight, normal blood clotting, and 6 fertility, which took forever lmao, so breeding is a whole lot easier. With my groups, the animal with the coloured name is basically the alpha, as they're the animal that breeds with all the others listed below them. The pairings/groupings are made mostly using immunity as the deciding factor, defects second, and if all survival needs are fine, I choose based on appearance/other traits (claw, nimble fingers, cracker jaw, etc). The alpha only breeds once with each member of their group, unless they produce really good kids, so I don't have 60 nichelings in my tribe. Although I only breed once for each animal, I still have 42 nichelings, which isn't that bad when you have 2000 food and 600 nesting material. I generally try to have my nichelings reproduce mid-adult stage, since getting them to have kids really early results in overpopulation. The reason I get so much food is because when animals that either weren't selected for breeding or have had all the kids they were assigned for, they go off and "retire" (they do this still pretty young) to live out the rest of their lives using their best traits. Say if an animal has claws, fishing tail, and webbed paw, that animal will most likely breed, and then go off to a lake to catch fish every day until they die. If another animal has double nimble fingers and cracker jaw, they'll sit by a bush and collect food and prey. You get the point. When you have about 10-15 adults that have always been somewhat banished from the nesting area or are done with breeding at all times, this method gets you a lot of food and nesting material. The cycle with the animals continues using this.

  34. This isn't a bad idea, but I'd rather it be optional. Like maybe have a little box that you can check to turn on or off. I imagine that it'd get pretty frustrating to have to constantly see a pop up every time you wanted to change a day.

  37. or maybe a luring light on the head like anglerfish have, could be nice for water nichelings to lure fish to them with light ...but there wouldn't be much reason for landdwelling day active creatures to be lured by that so maybe as an extra just for fish some dessert snakes (death adder) have a tail tip that looks a bit like a leaf to attract it's prey, so maybe something like that?

  38. Kinda similar to the challenge island idea from the devs. I like it. Maybe it could be combined? I am always looking for dynamic challenges so this sounds pretty cool And we need more underwater mobs in my opinion anyway

  39. That sound like the eperimental branch we had once. And that is not exactly how adaption in the darwin theory works. The parents don't adapt but random mutations are either beneficial for the environment or they are not. If they are the creature has more offspring and the gene gets passed on (let's say one of your creatures mutates big body and you are in the mountains you'll probably make sure that that creature has lots of children while the lean bodied creature probably won't have as many). That is what we like to call 'adapting'. In addition to that changes of the genes have to change the gametes as well (like sperma cells) which usually doesn't happen because they are already finished when a creature reproduces and grows up. So the parents might be used to the cold but the change in their normal body cells wouldn't usually carry over to the gametes and therefor to their children. I don't want to bash your idea or anything. That is just how Niche works currently (and most of the biology in the world). I like Philos idea that x babies have to be born there

  42. Please do not worry about stealing my idea. This is not a competition, and I am just glad that the idea is getting more recognition. I would very much like to see a volcanic island, and this only increases its chance of being implemented.

  43. In this mode, there would be two different leagues, one standard league, where you enter your drone to be placed in a random batch of drones used to allow others into the league, and one professional league. The standard league would, when won, allow for your drone to be entered in the standard rotation (Identical drones would not be allowed in the rotation, and old drones ould maybe get purged out of the system if their win/loss ratio is too low?) It would consist of random drones already in rotation. The professional league would consist of 10 drones. Whenever you win against one or more drones, you take their spot in the ranking, with top spot maybe earning you decals or a mark on the forum or something similar. Current holders of the top spot would have a shinier medal than old holders of it. If you held it multiple times you may get multiple awards. THis top 10 list would likely be cleared every month or so, to keep things fresh.
