  2. Hi everyone We have voted on the winners of this GIF competition! There were many great entries and the choice was not easy. Because it was so hard to choose, we decided to give away 4 Alpha keys instead of 3. If you didn't win this time: Thanks a lot for participating. We really appreciate you being here and joining the competition! And never fear! The next GIF competition is already open. But now! *drum roll* The winners of this competition are: @Melonhead For this very cool tank construction. It not only looks very good as a GIF, but is also a quiet complex construction. Congrats! @PyroPixel For this very cute narrative of a dance party + good looking GIF. Congrats @shippolo For this very cute dude, which also took quite some logic to build. Congrats! @Cringele For this huge, computer destroying explosion. Congrats ^^ I'll send over the winner's Alpha Steam keys via PM

  4. Hi all! This is the first time making a suggestion so here goes. Many animals feed on insects so why not nichelings? Potential food sources could be the bug swarms already in game, logs, and termite mounds. Logs would be found in grasslands and maybe jungles too. They would function like berry bushes, yielding a certain ammount of insect food and replenishing their supplies overnight. Termite mounds would be found in the savannah and can be cracked open, respawning two days after initially being destroyed. Like carnivorous plants, they can spawn as hostile or non-hostile. Non-hostile termite mounds can be cracked open and gathered from safely. When a nicheling gathers from or cracks open a hostile termite mound, they will be swarmed. The termite swarm must be licked off by another nicheling before the day ends or the nicheling will be bitten and take damage. I have designed an insectivore head inspired by anteaters and pangolins. I call it the Sticky Tongue! I imagine it would give 3+ insect collecting and 3+ smell. And perhaps the beak gene could give 2+ insect collecting.

  6. Sounds nice! Few suggestions: The day before a tree falls, it should have a crack in it's trunk so you could avoid it. Also it should make a cracking noise. You should be able to gather nestingmaterial and nuts from fallen trees but once they're empty, they're empty and will disappear. It would take 10 days for a fallen tree to despawn. They despawn faster if you collect from them. Also if you collec all they have to offer, they despawn during the next night. Armored body would protect the nicheling so it would only take damage from the hit. It would still be stuck under the tree and it would take damage every day until the tree despawns. Also it could protect baby nichelings by standing in between the tree and the baby. Stones would do the same thing.

  7. We aim to release early access in september. The plan is to release a bigger update each month starting next month. And smaller updates every ~2 weeks containing popular drone part and features suggestions. So keep upvoting the things you like to see in the game

  8. I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish, there is no beta at the moment. Developement is still in closed alpha, and to join you need a key that have to be redeemed on steam.

  9. My familly curently has 3 pets, here they are: I present to you Mollo, she's a guide dog and she helps me with stress. This is Gabi but we always call her Gabou, she's very grumpy and she seems to hate everybody but in the inside she's sweetheart. (She also loves to sit in poted plants and destroy then ._.). We adopted her from a shelter. And here is Trombone, (means paperclip in french) she's always happy and meows at everybody. She purrs a lot and always up for some hugs and snuggles. A friend of ours found her and we decided to keep her.

  10. It took me 15 minutes to get the first 6 second gif and then 10 more to let the thing calm down enough to take a gif of the aftermath... this is the COMPUTER DESTROYER and contains 3000 parts

  11. I decided to create a 4-wheeled drone: Not shown in the gif is the fact that more downward thrusters activate when the sensor at the bottom isn't activated.

  12. I can't say I like this idea. The idea of not being able to control something like that really doesn't feel right in a game like this. If it does become something, I hope it's optional, because the thought that you could suddenly lose a Nicheling to something that's much harder to deal with than wounds would be kind of a buzzkill. Not every island has healing fruits on it.

  13. I also think we could be able to design our own islands, like what they look like, what climate they have, what biome, or we could mix and match, like have a mountain biome but the climate was super hot, like a desert.

  14. of couse it doesn't need one, it is fine just as it is, but i think it would make a fun optional gameplay I am mostly just throwing around with wild ideas that randomly pop up in my head and then think about how to make them possibly work to see what others would think about it ^^ and for the "too many nichelings"-issue, just don't let the other one get too many, steal their food sources so they can't feed everyone and have to lower their numbers, mark your teretory by killing intruding nichelings if need be, this kind of battle is also a constant in natural selection and evolution and that game mode would be a bit different than solo for sure, but it would fit the theme nonetheless

  17. While I like the idea of a collecting tail, the design just does not look realistic to me. No real animals have split tails, and I do not think nichelings would either. If it was just prehensile, It could still be used to collect in a limited capacity.

  19. Brought to you by a minor ragequit at accidentally hitting the end day button twice I would super appreciate a feature where, if you try to end the day either by hitting the button or pressing space, that the game checks for creatures with energy left and if there are creatures with energy left, it asks you if you really want to end the day. Just to prevent the accidental hit of the Day end button, since it's REALLY EASY to hit it when you don't remember to centre the camera on a creature and want to move around the top of the screen.

  20. I think it would be great to have more settings for the sandbox mode. For example toggle buttons for all predator types (want to remove rogue males? Just switch them off). Maybe we could also define stuff like "Maximal tribe size" to add some extra challenge or "Maxium age of animals" so our critters can live longer. Or maybe even some special rules like "Only one male allowed in the pack" or "Tribe can only eat meat".

  23. I was thinking that there should be some more Niche sicknesses in the game, and the one I immediately though of was rabies. Here is what it will do and how it will work. - So first A niche may be attacked by a bearyena/ other predator, this gives the niche a chance to become infected. (Though still pretty small) - The infected Niche will first start resisting user commands, and will lose life slowly. (Day 1) - After a day it will be entirely inoperable and will start attacking the babies of the tribe. Eyes will also appear red or milky. (Day 2) - On the third day it will start attacking its own tribe members, resulting in more rabid niches. (Day 3) - Unless killed they will continue losing health and attacking niches and any other creature nearby. Their lifespan will be cute in half. - Remember this is a rare to moderate chance! More so depending on the predator. Red-eyed Bearyenas have a bigger chance of having it. - Rogue males may also have a VERy rare chance of obtaining rabies and passing it onto your tribe! Edit: The editing button works now yay!!! Thats my thoughts!

  24. I eagerly await the next update, i want to fiddle around with new stuff. More features, more feedback, more features, more... more! Note to self: Ok, don't get excited too much, let's start small with the next update and be happy about it, there is already much stuff to do

  25. Hmmm @Micha only current enemies that I know of that are non-flying is the snake. Excited at the possibility more non-flying creatures. :3 Very excited for all them updates. I'm happy to keep giving more feedback when I can. It's cool seeing the forum's get more energy behind them as things pick up.

  26. I hope that I do have a chance with my drone. Everyone. This is my Litle Driller. It drils itself a hole and then it can shoot. Just how you will see. I am sorry for my grammar. I do not speak english very well, but I love Nimbatus so I am happy. I can not wait for the release on steam.

  27. Yep... I might have gone to far with the 'code in core'-idea, many people just dont know how to do so. But i really would like some sort of logic-block where the entire logic of the drone can be placed into. Some sort of logic-compression into one block. Maybe give the core some space for about ten gates, if more is needed there is a bigger placeholder (2x2 to 4x4?) to add (near infinite?) space for logic.

  28. I whole heartily disagree with having actual coding in the game. The lessons learned from making work-arounds in the system that Markus mentioned is a good thing imho. As far as a compromise for reduced space usage - maybe just have a "programmable chip" part that is either restricted to certain parts of the game or extremely hard to unlock. Something like it can only control parts connected to the main unit, takes up 2x4 space but can have unlimited logical units in it. Sound modules might be fun! - similar to the ones in Mario Maker I assume. Could be used sparingly, or if someone wanted to make an elaborate equivalent of a mario maker auto-level that played music - you could make something that did that. *Immediately thinks of Close Encounters of the Third Kind*

  29. A faction system for the enimies could be very useful, for instance the various factions control their own areas of the map and they would be the same enimies just with different colourings, adding this feature would allow for a bit of Lore to possibly be implemented and also it could be possible to align with one faction and one faction alone meaning in their area of space the enimies won’t attack for the first 30 seconds of gameplay for each planet. The allied factions leader could also give special missions for large amounts of resources or a special weapon which is only available through this method; this also allows for the implementation of bosses to fight who are the other factions leaders, as each planet is defeated it joins your faction and once all of an enemy faction had been taken over the boss mission is available and killing the boss gives large amounts of resources or again a special weapon or extra upgrade slot for only one weapon. As more and more factions join yours the enimies in the remaining factions become stronger until the final boss fight is difficult enough to be a challenge. Once all factions are conquered it becomes an option to spend a large amount of resources to build a machine that turns the black hole in the centre of the galaxy into a wormhole/portal to a new galaxy to conquer with the difficulty increasing until it maxes out, the higher the enemy difficulty the more rewards are gained. Also the ability to fight the same mission multiple times could still be a thing as it can be justified by rebels of the destroyed faction fighting back, on the whole I believe this feature adds a lot of interesting aspects to the gameplay and gives the opportunity for Lore or a story line such as... “You awaken in a metallic cube, it appears to be a drone command room. As you look around the memories flash back to you” -White writing on screen short scene of pod escaping a planet ravaged by war “You must become stronger and find your way home, you may be the only one capable of finally ending this war”-Womans(mother’s) voice Game begins and you now have an end goal.

  30. Yes it does! It's also much easier to survive when your creatures aren't very adapted to the water yet. My main food source until I got some more fishing skills was from the coconut trees. And also the trees that give some shade are very usefull for creatures that don't have a lot of heat resistance.

  31. Yes your right! It would be cool to have it back!

  32. To prevent large drones being created early game maybe add a block count system such as the first few accessable planets have easy missions and a block limit of 30-50, and after completing x number of missions you gain access to harder missions and a larger block limit. Also with the harder missions if the mission is completed with a smaller ship the rewards are higher then with a big ship, this will inspire players to design well instead of just big and powerful.

  33. Maybe then they could have the title "Rabid Nicheling" Maybe Rogue Males could have a slight chance of being rabid?

  34. What if the drone editor allowed for different frameworks of drones? Right now, we're generally limited to squarish drones: But what if the grid in the drone editor could be toggled between a right angles grid and a circular grid? The type of drones made could look something more like this: If it doesn't really make sense, try this: Go to https://www.desmos.com/calculator and switch between the two types of grids: All of the parts would work in both grid types, but instead of automatically staying level as you drag one around (standard grid), it would automatically point toward the core (circular grid). This would open up an alternate look of drones on Nimbatus, give it something fresh in the long run.

  35. Hi, my name is John, I currently live in Great Britain, but I travel a lot (business) to the rest of European countries, mainly Eastern and Central Europe. And how many people here, I love to play Niche (on steam) I also play Path of Exile on Steam (PoE PC) and I consider this to be a great success in this respect. obvious to every specialist is that sometimes you have to do your job, even if you do not love it so much. The best thing that can be in this situation is to buy currency and enjoy life. Think about it before you write another comment. Because if you want currency, it's only in the Path of Exile buy currency Whank you very much guys

  36. This is Issi, a wanderer I found. Her gray fur mixed in with her blind eyes makes her one of my favorite creatures. Plus, poison fangs and big body are two of my favorite genes! This is Kois, another wanderer. I found her on a killer island and she was my first J immunity creature. Kois is now the goddess of growth and fertility within my tribe. This is Mero. I really love his pattern! This is Smoke, also known as "The Shadow Child".

  37. Yes the idea is that each dronepart and enemy has a temperature. If it rises too high, it will start to burn. Burning objects will rise the temperature of adjacient objects and objects have different heat resistance depending on the material. The idea behind is that you need to actively cool down or shield your droneparts if you get closer to the molten core of a lava planet. But we'll implement it in a way that the mechanic works for all other objects For example you should be able to set fire to enemies, they panic and set others on fire

  38. Maybe a Cooling/Heating System that is used to slow down the burn/freeze in a small area?

  42. Hey Guys! This is a follow up to my previous post(The one with all of the Space-Worms). I dedicated a good few hours and a whole lot of hard work to make an over 620 part monstrosity. I call it the Shark Tooth Worm, a worm that literally devours planets. (Trust me, planet Rytalae has been completely destroyed.) Here are a few GIFs: There you go! I hope I stand a chance at winning this because this is an amazing game! I will be willing to make any big drones, just PM me with suggestions. Happy Space Flying!

  43. Hey folks We are currently working on Niche 1 day per week with 4 people. The game is currently profitable for us, even though it's not making a ton of money. I think money-wise this will stay about the same this and maybe even next year. As mentioned, we will do one more big update this year. I don't know about next year yet. It very much depends on how things go for us as a company. We'll keep you up to date!

  46. They are so cute! and an abushing enemy is actually a good idea, I like it. But would it make sense for some little snakes to attack prey as big as a nicheling? or am I imagening them too small because of how cute they look xD?

  49. I love all of those pets! I have a Belgian Malinois called Shira, she is four years old and is completely crazy. She has the special ability to get on my nerves but I still love her more than I could describe <3 I'm also a bit into dog training and I practice with her every day (when I'm not studying in another city) and sometimes with other dogs like her father. Once I'm completely independent I'll have a lot more animals like rats, bearded dragons, cats and others

  50. Maybe when a baby nichling is born with the spikey body the spikes could be "soft" and ineffective kind of like how baby hedgehogs and porcupines are born. Maybe after they age a couple of days the spikes will harden and become useful.
