Please keep it! I agree it should only be a small chance but still! I always feel like more genes on Eve would be cool anyway3 points

Hey I was thinking about a Body Type that would overwrite the colors of a creature like Toxic Body does, but instead of standing out with intimidating warning colors, it would help the Nichelings to blend in perfectly with their enviroment: the Chameleon Body A chameleon changes his colors based on what they see to blend in so I suggest the colors would change depending on what biom-tile they are standing on. The pattern would still be the same (a spotted one would still be spotted, a striped striped...) but also change in color depending on the biom. I made a picture for illustration 5 times the same nicheling in different enviroments (I forgot the beach and the water but you hopefully get what I mean) I'd like if the body could be made to look slightly scaly instead of fluffy ^-^ It would give a lot of camouflage but has next to no other benefits, maybe heat resistance +1 or 2 but cold resistance -1 or 2 if anything Let me know what you think2 points

Sounds nice! Few suggestions: The day before a tree falls, it should have a crack in it's trunk so you could avoid it. Also it should make a cracking noise. You should be able to gather nestingmaterial and nuts from fallen trees but once they're empty, they're empty and will disappear. It would take 10 days for a fallen tree to despawn. They despawn faster if you collect from them. Also if you collec all they have to offer, they despawn during the next night. Armored body would protect the nicheling so it would only take damage from the hit. It would still be stuck under the tree and it would take damage every day until the tree despawns. Also it could protect baby nichelings by standing in between the tree and the baby. Stones would do the same thing.2 points

I for some reason think it would be really nice if you could occasionally find a ramfox pup and take it in after it's pack is dead. You would be able to breed with it and have it hunt food for you. The genes I think it would give will be listed below. -Ram horns -Fox ears (3+hearing, just for looks) -Normal eyesight -Fox jaw (1+strength, 2+smelling) -Fluffy body (3+cold resistence, 1+speed, 1+strength) -Hunting claws (1+speed, 1+strength) -Normal hindlegs -Fluffy tail -White fur -Black eyes -Gray or white horns -White pattern -No pattern -Random pattern density and size -Normal blood clotting -High or normal fertility -Some random immunity genes? Or possibly one unique to the ramfoxes known as ramfox immunity? Oh well. Just felt like putting this idea out here.1 point

Alright, so here is my headcanon for what exactly the player is in the world of Niche. A research drone sent by future humans to study life on an exoplanet. This is the reason why the Niche animals have portmanteaus of Earth animal names as names - those are what the human astrobiologists were reminded of. The genetics of the animals are close, but not quite, like that on Earth - for example, phenotypical changes are in at least one species much faster and more drastic than in any multicellular lifeform here. Those peculiar genetics are the point of the research this probe is conducting. The hexfield landscape is how the drone's systems maps the area. When you "control" the nichelings, you are actually just recording and logging their activities - the drone is able to interface with the nicheling's brains, which comes with the downside of only sensing what they sense as well as an aerial view from a satellite or atmospheric vehicle. It also means that you can't actually see the difference between "what they do" and "what I do". So, what do you think? Plausible?1 point

It would be cool if there were different types of manes. Think of a nicheling with the mane of a lion! Here are my ideas: Small mane: Just few tufts of hair on the head +1 attractiveness Medium mane: The current mane +1 cold resistance Big mane: The mane of a lion +2 cold resistance -1 heat resistance +2 attractiveness Tuft mane: Like medium mane exept this comes with ear tufts and if you have medium tail, it gets a tail-tip-tuft and double effect. Females display eartufts (and tail tip) they also get effects. +1 hearing Double effect for medium tail + attractiveness Dominance order: Medium mane > Small mane > Big mane > Tuft mane Edit: 23rd of February 2020 Updated artwork! For comparison, no mane (so basically females with any mane type other than tuft-) Small/short mane: Medium mane: Big/lion mane: Tuft mane: (male:) (female:)1 point

So, I just randomly had an idea for a new gene. It would maybe look kind of like a snake head, with frills on the sides. If a creature comes within a certain range (maybe three or four spaces?) the nicheling with the gene has an option to spit at it. The creature would be poisoned, and wouldn't take damage right away. Perhaps you could make puddles on certain spots, and creatures who step in them (including nichelings) would be poisoned. Edit: Based on people's suggestions, I think that I should change it to instead paralyze the target for a day or two, although only a few turns for larger creatures. However, there is also a very small chance to poison the target. Edit 2: Should probably add some possible unlock conditions. I think that it would be unlocked after eating a certain number of toxic berries and licking a certain number of times. Another option could involve picking from the carnivorous plant.1 point

I think it would be great to have more settings for the sandbox mode. For example toggle buttons for all predator types (want to remove rogue males? Just switch them off). Maybe we could also define stuff like "Maximal tribe size" to add some extra challenge or "Maxium age of animals" so our critters can live longer. Or maybe even some special rules like "Only one male allowed in the pack" or "Tribe can only eat meat".1 point

I have played Niche since its early access version 0.0.7 so I have seen a lot and I fell in love with the old grafics (no not the experimental branch ones. The original ones ^^). I would love to have an optional package where we can play with the current game mechanics and just the old textures (I wouldn't even mind if you made it a dlc we had to pay a bit for). I think that would be also useful for users who don't have such a strong grafics card. Would love to hear your thoughts on that idea1 point

1. Typing anything overwrites the name instead of appending 2. 16 character long names bounce up and down when being edited1 point

Just a little idea here, but maybe more vibrant, exotic manes could contribute to a male's attractiveness, just like the peacock tails currently do?1 point

Sounds like an absolutely great idea! Just note that it's spelled 'chameleon', not 'chamelion'.1 point

They still had the problem, but after I moved to a new island it got normal1 point

Good music is a very personal thing. I listen to many different styles of music, depending on where, when, mood and if I'm alone or with friends or family. Among others i listen to Bach, Mozart, Hayden, Jo Blankenburg, The Piano Guys, Rachmaninoff, deadmau5, Infected Mushroom, Wolfgang Gartner, Rammstein, Metallica, AC/DC, Dire Straits, OVERWERK, Schiller, GusGus, Leo Maracchioli, Feed Me, Daft Punk, Wintergatan, Parov Stelar... Just to name a few of them1 point

this happened to me as well, yesterday. I was testing how the new laserbeam design looks and suddenly *BOOM* ^^'1 point

I never encountered this problem, but i have the impression that the enemies always spawn at the same spot. Workaround: wait a few seconds instead of boosting ahead to give them time to spawn. A possible fix could be to set the spawn location outside of the testarea. I dont know the internals about collision checks, but adding a check if there is a part of the drone where the game wants to spawn an enemy seems a better solution.1 point

My main tribe has 3600+ food... andalso 80+ members... And I'msupposed to leave to a new island but I just can't laeve all those beautiful nichelings behind... Also I have never beaten the storymode1 point

I could dig it. since males already have manes in the game, i'm assuming they would be the only ones to display a majority of the mains? other then the ear-bits for females?1 point

I had another idea for an ear type! I had an idea where nichelings could have slightly large ears but with tufts of hair on the top (similar to Canadian lynx) this could help them hear prey underground. I think this feature would most help with the snow biome and this feature could maybe help you pounce on prey if they are underneath the snow???1 point

Yes it does! It's also much easier to survive when your creatures aren't very adapted to the water yet. My main food source until I got some more fishing skills was from the coconut trees. And also the trees that give some shade are very usefull for creatures that don't have a lot of heat resistance.1 point

We were really impressed when we saw the first walker created during the kickstarter campaign It's amazing what people can already build and we want to add as much as we can to let you go wild even more I think we need a mixture of really basic parts from which you can build everything and some more complete and functional parts which you might be able to build yourself from scratch, but it helps to save space and that beginners can use them more easily. Think of a part which is a grapple. You can already build it, but there might be a part which already does the same thing more easily.1 point

@Philo strange, I don't see that option anywhere on the page when I open it and neither can my friend when she opens from her computer, where on the page is that button?1 point

Uh... I think what you are suggesting is heterochromia, which means each eye is a different colour. I like this suggestion, however I'm pretty sure heterochromia has zero ties to behaviour or "distemper", so it would be a purely appearance-changing mutation in the game, just like it is in real life, if it were to be implemented.1 point

This happened to me too. I'm sad now because I never unloked antlers, but it would always show how many times I'd attacked, and before this happened it was at a pretty high number.0 points
