  1. This week @Roger, @Markus, me and @Micha (from left to right) went game jamming in the Swiss alps. (Which is not too far, since we live in Switzerland xD). We wanted to see if we can come up with some fresh ideas for future game projects. It was a nice change of pace since we could just hack together code and prototype stuff really quick Now back to work on Nimbatus and Niche ❤️

  3. I call it: The Taser have a a nice, environmentally friendly drone, it fully work on batterys and solar pannels, you can control it, and a little bit heat seeking. The explosion is big enough to kill the enemys, the flames are only for decoration. the turning is realy sensetive as you can see.

  5. Alright, so I've seen some suggests asking for some type of creature creator/demo mode or whatever. I have been working on this for a while and I thought I'd make a new post since there's a lot more than just "A demo mode". This is gonna be mostly made up of pictures from what I call "Tutorial Mode" and I'll leave a link to a page with pictures without the text from tutorial mode. So first you can access this mode from the home screen like so: And then you would start at the creature creator (and to turn on tutorial mode you do this first (tutorial mode can be either be functional just with the yellow text or an example that goes away after you click)): Which can take you to either the creature list or the select mate screens which look like (also note that the scroll on the right on all screens is not accurate, and is just there to display its existence): (Where you can import creatures from save files like this: ) And confirming a breed brings you to the offspring list which is: Where there are trait statistics and custom filters (list of traits made by @Aysling here: https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/626-nicheling-sort-filter-and-select/&page=0#comment-2030) : Or you can go to the punnett square: And from anything outside of the creature lists, you can go to the gem colors (which you can find individually here: https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/646-customizable-and-programmable-gem-colors/) And the color cycle looks like this: And after all of that, you could use the creatures you used to start in sandbox mode like this: (Picture in production) So yea, that's all of it. Please let me know of any mistakes I might have made since this was a lot or of any logical inconsistencies. If you want to see the pictures without the text from tutorial mode, you can go to this link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/16dVKParfTHqHpSsuPD_UA_6cozEJ94_4Wtxpff6lIsE/edit?usp=sharing

  6. An interesting way to play this game is as a simulation of evolution, that is, with minimum input from yourself, to see what kind of form the nichelings would take based on their environment. This new mode beside story and sandbox would allow that playstyle to its full extent: As much or more pre-game customization as in sandbox mode, but AI-controlled nichelings ingame. You can: Look at their genetics, change the speed of the game (perhaps even automatic Day changes? If so, it should be disalbable), and a button to cause Migration (the youngest nichelings move to the Migration Plattform and then to the next Island). This way, Niche could serve as a simulator for evolution, population genetics, and ecology. The suggestion originally comes from my evo-devo prof who saw me and some friends play Niche in the cafeteria and started a conversation.

  7. I think it’s kinda weird that only nichlings with double immunities can get sick. Maybe when nichlings get cold and when it rains or snows, there’s a chance for them to become sick.

  8. Hello everyone! will there be a contest for "the bot that can destroy a planet but holding down one button" contest? because I think I would win it! and break the game in the process! I pretty much just gave up on the current contest I cant make a moveable bot....I can make bots like...this! (believe me...there is much MUCH more to this bot then is shown, I didn't get it in a gif but near the bottom I got a message saying "ALL HIVES DESTROYED!" and I was getting about 2 fps)

  10. Hello Everyone, My name is DeathBySuburban, Death for short. I'm a gamer and aspiring YouTuber, from SouthEast Texas. I built my current computer only 2 years ago, and have upgraded it many times since. I'm fascinated by all aspects of computers, although I do wish I knew as much about programing (of any kind) as I do about hardware. I saw Lathrix playing Nimbatus, and instantly went and downloaded the demo. I've been hooked every since, and really hoping to get access to the Closed Alpha!!! 🤤 Also my favorite Anime is Bleach (Yes, I know it's cliché, but I like it) and my favorite character on Bleach is Kenpachi Zaraki (Shocking right? I know you where expecting Ichigo Kurosaki, wern't you?)

  12. Hello Stray Fawn, i have been playing/following Niche since early access. I enjoy the game very much, but one thing bugged me, when you go into sandbox or story-mode you can sometimes be unsure about unlocking or adding genes/mutations, i'm sure other people on steam has suggested this but, what if on the main menu or even in the mutations tab you could add another tab that will allow people to mess around with genes on a model, so they can preview it or see what they like on their Nichelings. This feature could also be something that will help people get more interested in continuing the game as they have something to look forward to creating in the future. Sincerely, Fearless Fenrir

  13. I actually don't think any combination of genes should result in you having 0 movement on land. Unless we're given the ability to make nests in the water, there would be no way for your full crark hybrid to move, breed, or find food -- they would be stuck in the nest indefinitely. In fact, none of the crark genes add movement, so even if you don't have a full hybrid then an unlucky combination of genes would leave you stranded like a beached whale. If you had a whole tribe of them, what good would carrying/dragging do if nobody can move? Not trying to sound harsh btw, I just think that a full gene set giving you 0 movement is a bad idea. At the very least it should be like blind nichelings where you can only move 1 tile on land, instead of 0 tiles on land, it seems broken.

  17. The crop duster by @Kabbyyss probably beat you by a week or so, @MLGTASTIC, but it wasn't nearly so large or complex. That dive-and-leap behavior is something I spent hours and hours and hours trying to eliminate. It's the natural state of all my automated drones, and I always needed lots of control thrust and lots of logic to control it. That's pretty good control for a first iteration.
