  2. Some suggestions have floated around for improved underwater biomes. A great thing to add, if that comes to pass, is underwater camouflage. Some possibilities: - "Blue" color (the gray coat seen on these cats and this dog) could provide a standard +2 while in water. - If more extensive aquatic life is added, stripes could grant camouflage in kelp beds, or spots could grant camouflage in reefs. - Countershading (dark back, pale belly) is a very common camo adaptation. Could provide bonus while swimming and flying. EDIT: If you like this, you should probably vote for the most popular water biome thread.

  3. Click the image to make it less blurry! Adult male: I heard that dodomingos were originally supposed to be pink. So male dodomingos would be pink and have much larger tail feathers. Unlike female dodomingos, males would take over tree stumps. When they stand on a tree stump, they call to attract females. If they hear a female dodomingo or a chick calling, they will run to help it and attack any nicheling next to him. They drop 5 food and have the same lifespan as females. Stats: 1 speed 1 attack 4 eyesight Babies: If a female dodomingo spends a night on a nest, she will lay 1-3 eggs. She will stay around the nest and sometimes sit on her eggs. You can eat the eggs (one food each) but if you do that, the female will scream to attract a male to help. You can't use a nest with dodomingo eggs or chicks in it. If you don't eat the eggs, they will hatch during next night. They appear as bald little birds and they scream for food, calling for their mom to feed them. You can feed them one food each to stop their annoying screaming. You can still eat them, but they only drop one food. They will scream loudly and attract their mom or a even male if you kill them. If they survive to next day, they grow to be a bit bigger and have brown feathers on them. Their behavior won't change, but you'll have to feed them again or they'll continue screaming. Their mom will still stay close by. If they survive to their fourth day, they will leave the nest and move around, usually following their mom. They are twise as big as they were. Females stay brown, but males turn pink. Male teens drop 2 food now. Their mom won't stick around. She will leave to find a new nest. Next day they are full grown adults and won't need her help anymore. Edit: A lot of people didn't seem to like this, so it would be a toggleable feature.

  4. Since there's currently only 3 types of hind legs, I thought one that matches up with winged nichlings would work. The gene would give them 4+ attack since a predatory bird's talons are pretty powerful. I might put up a drawing on what it might look like later.

  5. So I was thinking, wouldn't it be cool if certain creatures had affinities with each other in a pack? How it would work: There would be 5 different affinities. "hate" "dislike" "Neutral" "like" and "love" Nichelings would automatically love their parents. Niches that breed together may up their affinities with each other. Two niches that have a high affinity for each other may have a better chance at procreating. Two niches with hate or dislike for each other have more issues procreating successfully. Niches gain affinity from the pack by hunting food, berry picking, and becoming alpha. A niche creature with "hate" affinity from multiple pack members may be automatically forced from the pack, though this would be a VERY RARE occurrence! And you can win back your member with 5 food like a wanderer, and their affinity would be reset! Thats just my idea! I think it would help add on to the importance of collecting food, and also help give the game a sort of pack hierarchy aspect besides the alpha, beta, and omega roles. It would also be a good aspect to the Rping part of the game :3

  6. There can be small birds flying around and you would have to have wings to fly and catch them. They can be 3+ food.

  7. The naked ram rat is like a naked mole rat with ram horns, it overtakes mole holes and builds its home around them. A pregnant queen has a chance of spawning on the port tiles of any island with moles, she is the size of a dodomingo, and looks like a naked mole rat queen, with a long body and golden ram horns. She will move every time a nicheling moves and has very bad senses, making her an easy meal, ans she gives 15 food, so its very useful. After she finds the mole burrow, she will get rid of the mole and enter it, staying underground and changing the appearance of the burrow. During the night, she will have babies, that will make their own burrows in a radius of 6 tiles from the queen's and overtake other mole burrows in the area. Males have red horns and females have blue horns, they give 5 food and they are both shorter than the queen. They take one day to grow and will start digging the day after, and there can be 6 burrows in the radius aside from the queen's. The males behave like moles, they stay in their burrows after they dig them, but they will alert any other ram rat in a 2 tile radius if they notice you. They will sometimes go out and behave like bunnies, but they will deal 2 damage if you can not kill them in one blow. Females are easier to hunt, but if the population around the queen is too big or the queen dies, they will leave and search for a mole burrow or a hole that a nicheling dug up and turn into a queen, establishing a new colony. The queen will come out every 3 days, so you can try to hunt her. They can become your most valuable food source, but they could also be a problem if they are too close to your berries or nuts, so you can control the population and farm them, making sure their burrows are in good places, or you could get rid of them, if you kill the queen and all females and queens they will be unable to brred and eventually go extinct on the island.

  8. I like the idea of cold resistant ears, but... I would rather they look like lynx ears, with tufts on the end, or arctic fox ears, short, upright, and packed with fur. I feel obligated to point out that lop ears like the original suggestion are pretty much nonexistent except where humans have really warped domestic animals' genomes.

  9. Maybe have it do something like the thing i said in discussion & feedback. the idea is have it looking at either the whole tribe or the generation, to see what is lacking and what not. for both genders and immunity genes

  10. This sounds interesting, though I'm not sure about the breeding thing since we've sort of already got that in game as the fertility genes, so having a secondary thing affect it might be too much. I do like the idea though, I'm not the greatest of storytellers so having something that adds to that aspect and helps with it could be rather neat.

  11. If aquatic biome is expanded on, aquatic camouflage should be considered!

  14. Adding to this, you would have to find multiple fossils of one gene to unlock a gene.

  15. Pygmy nichelings are like wandering nichelings with mostly black fur and cat eyes, but their main difference is that adults are the size of a big bodied teenage nicheling. They behave like wanderers, but their speed is increased by 2 points and their strength is decreased by 1. They have a chance of spawning in port tiles as a family on any island but they can be toggled on and off, and they will breed with each other and are capable of building nests to have their babies, but you can steal those nests if you want. They compete with you for food and are behave a lot like adam's family on home island, but a bit more fierce, as they will try to attack your babies even if you have not attacked them. Their default appearance is black, with pygmy body which looks like normal body but small, antlers and sometimes no horns, long snout, normal hind legs, medium or swimming tail and double runner legs or double velvet paws, but they can have any paw except wings, bearyena paw, or mammoth foot. Their appearance can vary a bit depending on the island, but they always have cat eyes. There are benefits to them, for example, you can make them extinct on an island if you kill the entire population, also, predators treat them like normal nichelings, so they can be a great distraction. Also, because they are a subspecies, you can breed with them. they are really attached to their family, so to get one in your pack you can only invite a baby in the nest, the baby will join your pack and you could control it, by breeding with it, you could get these Exclusive genes: Cat eyes: + 3 eyesight Pygmy body: All the benefits of normal body but with 2 speed and 0 strength black fur P immunity: An exclusive immunity( maybe lets you invite adult pygmys into the pack but likely not) Finally, there could possibly be a rare variation of these that acts like a rogue female, it breeds with your males and the baby joins their pack, this not only means that you could have a hybrid between the two subspecies against you, but it could also create some awesome stories of forbidden love and also traitors (one step closer to warrior cats)

  16. so i was thinking what if nichelings with around 4+ digging can dig burrows to protect baby nichelings from the blue bird and maby add a bit of camouflage. the burrrow takes 5 nesting material to build and will collapse after 7 *days and the nicheling inside will have to be dug out. every day the nicheling is inside the collapesed burrow they will take 1 day of damage, after 5 *days the burrow will begin to fall apart and you can fix it by using 2 nesting material. Edit: I changed turns to days ( that's what i originaly ment)

  17. I thought it might be cool to add a horn type unlocked after so many days in the savanna, the opposite of that for the mountain/snowy biome. When I think of horned animals in the Savanna I think of the Kudu, a deer looking creature with tall, twisted horns. I drew some in my art class today and edited them onto a nicheling model. They would have the usual +1 strength of horns and for unlocking would require the same amount of attack and days in the biome as the antlers would

  18. This just came to my mind after I read a steam post where a Nicheling was stunned for ten days until it died because the coconuts kept falling. So here we go: once your Nicheling is stunned if you don't pick up the coconut no new coconut wil fall and the Nichling can be free again while only taking one point of damage.

  20. Before you read: I plan to post here more stories about the non nicheling creatures that inhabit the world of niche, writing from their point of view, so I would love to see what you think, so feel free to comment! Also if you want, you could try to re create part of the story in game! It was a dark day on the mountains, some time ago, a balance bear had separated a pregnant nicheling from her tribe. She managed to gain some distance and hide behind a rock. The bear lost her tracks, but the snowstorm was cold and relentless. She built a nest in desperation, using some of the white flowers she had, and she curled up to endure the cold. The next day, as the sun escalated the mountain, it revealed the frozen remains of the mother, and a snow white baby with grey ram horns sleeping by her side. Suddenly, a three mysterious creatures started rushing to their location. Three ramfoxes.- Well well well, what do we have here- Alpha, said. -Looks like lunch, lets feast!- Kevin exclaimed as he rushed to the baby, but Betty, the beta of the pack, stepped in front of him. -Wait- she whispered -Just look at him, does he not remind you of a baby ramfox?- Betty murmured in a sweet tone. -I do not care!- Kevin yelled as he lunged himself to the baby, sinking his teeth deep in its soft flesh... Or thats what he was thinking would happen. Instead, the baby just stared at him as he struggled to get a good bite in the nicheling's ultra hard body. - Don't you see it has armored body?- Alpha laughed. -Damn it, at least the mother does not have armor- Kevin insisted. -The mother is too cold to eat,- Betty replied. -Besides, if we can't eat the baby, why don't we keep him? We wont gain anything by just leaving him. -Have you gone mad!?- Kevin yelled. - How are we supposed to feed it? -Betty has a point- Alpha continued.- There are plenty of rabbils here, and one gives sufficient food for the four of us. Kevin started screaming. -DONT YOU SEE HE IS A NICHELING!!! Those greedy beasts invade our homes and steal our food! We have to always hide, and when we are so desperate that we are forced to eat their babies, they just kill us!- Betty kept her usual calm expression. -He wont become like the other nichelings if we raise him in the ways of the ramfox. He will grow as a ramfox and hunt with the pack, he would be a valuable hunter with his speed, and maybe he could even help us reason with the nichelings in the future.- Her words managed to really calm down kevin, and suddenly, he felt a warm touch in his tail. The baby hugged him firmly with a wide smile on his face. -Tata!- The baby smiled, forcing a smile on kevin's face too. -Yep, he fell for the baby already.- Betty whispered. As the seasons passed, the baby nicheling, Tata, grew up strong and adventurous, hunting with the ramfoxes, he was a valuable member of the pack, and being widely accepted. Alpha and Betty had two sons, Rascal and Scout. Those two, along with their adoptive brother Tata, became great hunters, but they kept getting in trouble. Rascal was the clown of the group, always joking, while Scout tried to befriend basically every mountain dweller, which worried his parents, but Tata showed a great interest for the nicheling tribe established in the mountainside. One day, the three of them got too close to nicheling territory while chasing rabbils. When they were about to catch their prey, they heard a terrified call. -RAMFOXES! Protect the babies! RUN! Warriors, please save us!- The brothers realized that the nicheling's nest was close, as a proud brown nicheling stumbled down the snowy mountain with a menacing claw. -Guys, I think we should go.- Rascal said as the warrior walked closer. -I may not be able to take you on alone- the warrior said,- but my partners will come. Tata stepped between the nicheling and his brothers. -This is just a misunderstanding.- He said confidently.- We mean no harm. -Hah!- The warrior laughed. - What a joke! You helping these beasts!? Just come help me kill them.- He pushed Tata aside and raised his claw. The foxes stepped back, but he swiped with extreme speed! However Tata managed to shield them with his armored body, causing the claw to bounce off. -YOU BARBARIC IDIOT!- The warrior roared. -If you are with these beasts, then you will perish too! Come here Bertha!- As he called, a great beast surged from the snow. The most terrifying thing a ramfox could ever see. A hybrid, with white fur and blood red eyes, the legs and head of a bearyena, and the speed of a nicheling, clearly old and close to expiring, but still fearsome and agile, it started rushing toward them. -HAH!- Rascal yelled.- That thing cant get past Tata! - Actually...- Tata whispered.- I think we should run. -FUDGE!- Rascal screamed as they started running. The chase was desperate. They were fast, but the hybrid started getting closer and closer. -Follow me!- Scout said. - I know of a place where we will be safe!- They made a sharp turn and started running by the mountainside, but the hybrid climbed up. As they neared a humongous pile of snow, the creature surprised them from above and jumped in front of them, getting between them and the giant snow pile. Dusk was transforming into night, and the old hybrid made her move. Showing her razor sharp teeth, she let out a war cry and pounced to them with meteoric force! BUT THE MONSTROUS SNOW PILE BURSTED TO LIFE! A great paw knocked the hybrid out of the air, and the balance bear revealed itself! With the strength of the mountain the bear roared as it crushed the beast beneath the snow. The king of the mountain let out a victorious snarl, as he turned towards the brothers, Scout being the only one not paralyzed by fear. The bear just smiled. -Let me guess- Tata realized. -Its one of your friends.- Yep- Scout said with a satisfied smile. -Lets go home bros, and thanks Snowflake. -Youre WeLcOmE!- The bear growled.

  22. Honey is an amazing food source! Bee hives can be found in trees of any kind, or more rarely on the ground. Any nicheling can gather honey, no matter its genes, and you can gather as much as you want without emptying the hive. You can get 2 food points every time you gather, it does not seem like much, but you dont need specialized genes and it never runs out. Gathering honey causes nichelings to be covered in it, giving them a sweet smell, and other pack mates can lick the honey to get one extra food. However, gathering too much honey can anger the bees, causing them to sting you. At first each sting will only remove one turn from the nichelings, but many consecutive stings can cause damage, creatures with stinky tail have a lower chance of being stung, and those with armored body are completely immune to stings. You can attack the hive to break a piece which gives 5 food, and you can attack it 4 times before destroying it, giving a total of 20 food, however, this will stop honey production and enrage the bees, which will ignore stinky tail and armor body in this case. It takes a few days for the hive to recover a broken piece, and hives are rare, so you dont want to destroy one. If its on a tree, only flying creatures can gather from it, but you can shake the tree to bring down a honey comb, but shaking it often can break a piece or bring the whole hive down, so hives on the ground are better. They can be found from medium to killer islands. Genes: narrow snout: lets you eat the bees( unlocked by getting stung 50 times) honey paw: lets you gather one extra food point from honey if genes identical, also gives 1 gathering and 1 strength. ( Unlocked by inviting a nicheling with that gene and having all other honey genes.) Long tongue( It says tongue but its a snout gene): Can get 1 extra food point from licking honey. ( Unlocked by licking honey 100 times) Honey eating creatures: Honey glutton: A mix between a wolverine and a honey badger, this guy does not give a dam about anything, the fiercest creature in niche, it rarely hurts nichelings, but it will eat anything, from nuts to fish to bunnies and berries( It will sometimes destroy a berry bush because it does not care) but its favorite food is honey, it will fiercely guard a give, eating the bees, honey and sometimes breaking a piece, but sometimes it will go away, letting you gather. It cant reach honey on trees. It moves one tile every time a nicheling moves, and it has little defense, but If any creature gets near it, I will make and intimidating growl which will even scare away an ape! Nichelings affected by the growl cant interact with the glutton, essentially making it invincible, and letting it go on its merry way. They are rare, but will be more likely to spawn if there is honey. They can be found in any island with honey and live 50 days. Rarely, it can do a special attack that ignores defence and spikyness. honey parrot: A yellow parrot like bird which will fly around hives in trees. It will perch on the tree and gather honey, and if a nicheling tries to steal its honey, it will make a call which will instantly enrage the bees and it can cause a predator to come near. You can hunt it or lick the honey it gathers. It can be found in any island with honey.

  24. Sounds fun to me. It's not unheard of in the animal kingdom either (like how ants farm aphids). The main thing holding this back is how long it takes to kill a dodomingo lol.

  25. Update with more creatures! 🐾 This is Icing. I love his pattern! Here is Vanta. He's probably one of the cutest nichelings I've ever had. Virleko, a starter I had in a 0.5.0 tribe. He's probably the most beautiful starter I've ever gotten on any version of Niche.

  26. I suggest: If creature doesn't have double wings: +1 Speed +1 Attack +1 Swimming If creature has double wings: +2 Fishing +2 Attack In this way, it acts just like Bearyena Hindlegs on a land creature, but if they have double Wings, then it's a lot better!

  29. this is a question for the developers of the game: after playing and having trouble with the genders and immunity genes as usual, i looked at the family tree and started thinking, and here is the question: does the game decide the gender and immunity genes by looking at what the tribe has or the generation? if it does look at the whole tribe i think that the trouble with gender and immunity genes starts there, like if you have a lot of old females the game will try balance it out by having more boys but the females being older will probably die before long and you are stuck with more males than females and thus the cycle starts anew, and i think it is the same with the immunity genes. so if i'm right i would like an option for the thing that decides those things to look ate the generation, if i'm wrong well, that's life. and the reason i don't post it in feature request is i'm not sure about it

  35. Huh, I swore I grabbed that right after the crash. Maybe it didn't include anything because it froze and I had to force close it? Odd. I'll try the game that crashed again and grab the log and save file if it crashes again. EDIT: Didn't crash out this time, but I'll keep this post open on my tab menu to remind me to grab the log next time it happens.

  37. Maybe the number of food could increase depending on how many nichelings you start with.

  38. I can't support this either. Not due to lack of realism or anything like that, but I don't quite understand why this is needed. We already have low to infertility to reduce the chances of pregnancy. I don't really get why a game about breeding would need an extra nerf when one exists as it is.

  41. Maybe a bee pattern or body(a yellow nicheling with black stripes) could also be added as well as a stinger gene? The stinger gene could be unlocked after attacking a hive a certain amount of times, and causes a small amount of damage to another creature. The damage it causes would be maybe 1 or 2, but it the enemy causes to flee a short distance away from the pain. The bee pattern/body could be unlocked after reaching a medium or killer island where a hive is present, or just by traveling to harder islands. It would serve as a way to trick the bees by confusing them and allows you to avoid being stung by bees altogether. I think having this pattern/body would cause the honey glutton to be more aggressive or passive towards you as well though.

  45. Thanks for the art! About the collecting thing, im not sure, its cool but my original concept is that the honey is easy to gather for anyone. But It makes sense for the claws to have a chance of breaking the hive.

  46. That would be really handy to have with wings, for collecting and stuff! Giving some more options besides just a beak .
    1 point
  47. I kind of like the idea of it being 1 strength and 2 fishing. That lines it up with the 3 stats on all the other legs, and you can get more strength from horns and body type, but without the forelegs if you're going with winged creatures, you're limited to 2 fishing from the fishing tail. And having no speed wouldn't bother the double winged creatures since they fly everywhere anyway.

  48. I also really want to have this in the game As mentioned before, only as a visual feature though. *upvote*
