I made a useless firework that warns you before explosion. It looks like a tree growing outwards. (There is one more ring that I can't show in the gifs (I tried) but you can see it in the screenshot) gif with the start: gif with the end: the screenshot: Somebody probably did this before but if not, then this is my post I don't think that it will win (I would't want it to win because some other posts are a lot better than mine and they used much more time building them) but I just thought that it looks cool and wanted to share it. I want to post lookouts on high perches to keep watch for predators and prey or maybe even help with scouting. I hit on the idea of using rocks as vantage points. A nicheling perched on a rock could have +1 or +2 vision, and see one tile further into surrounding grass. To balance out the benefits of this, the following restrictions could apply: - Climbing onto a rock requires 2 or 3 movement. (Climbing is harder than walking, and a creature that can barely move on land can't climb.) - Lookouts on rocks can't interact with surrounding tiles. (To pluck from that berry bush by the rock, you'll have to climb down, pick berries, and climb back up. No free lunch.) Additionally, nichelings might be safe from bearyena and ramfox attacks while perched on rocks, but not from apes, balance bears, or killer bearyenas. Predators of sufficient size or agility have no trouble reaching high places.2 points

WWF facts about Sea Otters Bostonlobstah is correct on Sea Otters having very dense fur. #9 in the list on the WWF website sites that "Its fur is the densest of any animal on Earth—an estimated 1 million hairs per square inch. That’s because, unlike its fellow marine mammals, it has no blubber to keep it warm. " Another fact while we are stating them, on the WWF site #5 says " 5. If a sea otter’s fur becomes dirty, it has trouble absorbing the air needed to keep it warm. Therefore, sea otters are obsessive about keeping their fur clean, and groom themselves practically non-stop when they’re not eating or sleeping. Oil spills, therefore, can affect sea otters perhaps more so than any other marine mammal; oil coating their fur can lead to death by hypothermia. " Note that I am not a biologist myself, I just googled "Sea Otter fur facts". But in question to the original topic I think that cold resistance is good.2 points

I love this idea! maybe we could have an island where its just sand and rocks, no grass or trees. there would be snakes with legs and beetles, along with no bearyeanas since its too hot for them. it would be a killer island since the only food scource is cacti meat and fish.2 points

But what would be the point of it? Yeah, maybe it could be used for role-playing purposes like making a food pile, but at a survival standpoint, it doesn't do anything---you might as well put it in the food stores so your creatures can eat it.2 points

Burrows could be cool, since real life animals actually make them, but I disagree that walls and huts etc. should be added.2 points

Pygmy nichelings are like wandering nichelings with mostly black fur and cat eyes, but their main difference is that adults are the size of a big bodied teenage nicheling. They behave like wanderers, but their speed is increased by 2 points and their strength is decreased by 1. They have a chance of spawning in port tiles as a family on any island but they can be toggled on and off, and they will breed with each other and are capable of building nests to have their babies, but you can steal those nests if you want. They compete with you for food and are behave a lot like adam's family on home island, but a bit more fierce, as they will try to attack your babies even if you have not attacked them. Their default appearance is black, with pygmy body which looks like normal body but small, antlers and sometimes no horns, long snout, normal hind legs, medium or swimming tail and double runner legs or double velvet paws, but they can have any paw except wings, bearyena paw, or mammoth foot. Their appearance can vary a bit depending on the island, but they always have cat eyes. There are benefits to them, for example, you can make them extinct on an island if you kill the entire population, also, predators treat them like normal nichelings, so they can be a great distraction. Also, because they are a subspecies, you can breed with them. they are really attached to their family, so to get one in your pack you can only invite a baby in the nest, the baby will join your pack and you could control it, by breeding with it, you could get these Exclusive genes: Cat eyes: + 3 eyesight Pygmy body: All the benefits of normal body but with 2 speed and 0 strength black fur P immunity: An exclusive immunity( maybe lets you invite adult pygmys into the pack but likely not) Finally, there could possibly be a rare variation of these that acts like a rogue female, it breeds with your males and the baby joins their pack, this not only means that you could have a hybrid between the two subspecies against you, but it could also create some awesome stories of forbidden love and also traitors (one step closer to warrior cats)1 point

It always looks so strange when the babies come out with the horns, so I thought it would be idea if the horns would grow as they age. Newborns would have no horns, babies with 1 gem would have little stubs. Ones with 2 gems would just have a smaller version of the horns than the adults? Once they become adults their horns would be fully grown.1 point

Alright, so I've seen some suggests asking for some type of creature creator/demo mode or whatever. I have been working on this for a while and I thought I'd make a new post since there's a lot more than just "A demo mode". This is gonna be mostly made up of pictures from what I call "Tutorial Mode" and I'll leave a link to a page with pictures without the text from tutorial mode. So first you can access this mode from the home screen like so: And then you would start at the creature creator (and to turn on tutorial mode you do this first (tutorial mode can be either be functional just with the yellow text or an example that goes away after you click)): Which can take you to either the creature list or the select mate screens which look like (also note that the scroll on the right on all screens is not accurate, and is just there to display its existence): (Where you can import creatures from save files like this: ) And confirming a breed brings you to the offspring list which is: Where there are trait statistics and custom filters (list of traits made by @Aysling here: https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/626-nicheling-sort-filter-and-select/&page=0#comment-2030) : Or you can go to the punnett square: And from anything outside of the creature lists, you can go to the gem colors (which you can find individually here: https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/646-customizable-and-programmable-gem-colors/) And the color cycle looks like this: And after all of that, you could use the creatures you used to start in sandbox mode like this: (Picture in production) So yea, that's all of it. Please let me know of any mistakes I might have made since this was a lot or of any logical inconsistencies. If you want to see the pictures without the text from tutorial mode, you can go to this link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/16dVKParfTHqHpSsuPD_UA_6cozEJ94_4Wtxpff6lIsE/edit?usp=sharing1 point

Hi all! This is the first time making a suggestion so here goes. Many animals feed on insects so why not nichelings? Potential food sources could be the bug swarms already in game, logs, and termite mounds. Logs would be found in grasslands and maybe jungles too. They would function like berry bushes, yielding a certain ammount of insect food and replenishing their supplies overnight. Termite mounds would be found in the savannah and can be cracked open, respawning two days after initially being destroyed. Like carnivorous plants, they can spawn as hostile or non-hostile. Non-hostile termite mounds can be cracked open and gathered from safely. When a nicheling gathers from or cracks open a hostile termite mound, they will be swarmed. The termite swarm must be licked off by another nicheling before the day ends or the nicheling will be bitten and take damage. I have designed an insectivore head inspired by anteaters and pangolins. I call it the Sticky Tongue! I imagine it would give 3+ insect collecting and 3+ smell. And perhaps the beak gene could give 2+ insect collecting.1 point

I think it would be great to have more settings for the sandbox mode. For example toggle buttons for all predator types (want to remove rogue males? Just switch them off). Maybe we could also define stuff like "Maximal tribe size" to add some extra challenge or "Maxium age of animals" so our critters can live longer. Or maybe even some special rules like "Only one male allowed in the pack" or "Tribe can only eat meat".1 point

I would like to be able to have two separate packs in one game. When I'm doing a game with two oping packs, it can be hard two control because I need lots of food to support two packs that should really be able to exist on their own without depending on one to be able to feed themselves. So, with a flip of a button, you could switch from pack to pack.1 point

Hello there! So I know it is a big ask, believe me, but I do notice you have a LOT of biomes and I especially notice the cacti in the dry grassland areas of the game. I was curious as cacti are found in deserts and it got me thinking: what about a new biome with new traits to compliment it. With the new birds update, it made me think. We have mammals covered on all bases, we now have bird parts to play around with, so why not add reptiles with the new desert biome? I believe it would be really cool as we could have scale-bodied creatures with a higher defense, or creatures with lizard faces that would help in the desert area, or even a crocodile evolution trait. The posibilities are endless and I think it would be an amazing idea, but again it is a big ask and/or task, so my hopes are not high. I love the game though, and hope to see many awesome new things! Having two wings along with this would mean a +12 flying nicheling, but it certainly would look very weird and, at least in my opinion, would be relatively difficult to play with, as you essentially put all your stats into movement, which makes it harder for you to gather food and nesting materials, not to mention being weaker in the event of an attack by a predator, but hey, if you wanna make a weird four-winged nicheling, go right ahead XD It certainly wouldn't be the weirdest thing I've ever seen in this game.1 point

pretty much, also some skinks live in aboned trapdoor spider burrows and don't have to worry about the smoke or heat when a fire passes and termite mounds efficient ventilation and material make them literally fireproof1 point

also I read many scientific books on plants and apparently the heat dissipates a few CENTIMETERS underground, so burrows will be a better defense than fleeing and most animals with decent burrow structure don't flee from the burrow when a bush fire passes1 point
-
I am not sure how well burrows would work against fire considering the smoke could still get in and or the heat would still be an issue as well, you'd be somewhat cooked alife if the burrow wasn't deep and or had air venting... at least that's how imagine it1 point

I really like this idea overall and think that having this subspecies would add a lot to the game.😊 Although I don't really know how I feel about the rogue females, I feel like there would need to be a reason for the newborn to be born into your tribe; such as a food shortage or the mother abandoning the child as sad as that would be. With rogue males they move to the point where you loose them on an uncovered map, and so with the female I feel as if the nicheling would be born and attacked by a bird before I could get to it; unless, the rogue female nested in the nearest available nest. I feel as if you should have to invite them, the baby, into the tribe instead of them automatically adding it. This idea could work! I just feel as though with any rogue situation it is going to be annoying and have some thought processes to go through. 😊1 point

Also if we ever got an option for making super long lifespans than there could be a possible to have the horns fall off and regrow. Although with shorter lifespans this is not needed, but could possibly work if you had an option for it on a menu for players who didn't want the growth cycle option.1 point

I honestly thought of something else that could go with this: Termite mounds. Especially in savannah as a food source! And maybe an ant-eater head to work like nimble fingers on bushes. Like I said the ideas for this are everywhere! And it would give a reason to eat insects in the game, which is one source of food not covered. I love the idea for beetles btw! Like dung beetles! And I love the idea of snakes as well, maybe they could be cobras, and maybe it could give access to a hood gene of some kind to scare away predators! Could be like meerkats too and dig for millipedes. And what would be really rare is an oasis island! Also, apologies I had not realized someone else had the same idea points for reptile add-ons, but it does add the point that this is a possibility and it would be pretty cool!1 point
-
yup, because the nichelings have literal mole claws, and it would give you a way to avoid the FIRE besides running also maybe dams or lodges woud be possible with swimming tail, giving non aquatic creatures another way to cross water1 point

Here's an old suggestion back before even the mountain update, so it's pretty outdated, but I'm too lazy to (completely) fix it up. I made another.. Suggestion.. With all of my old suggestions, but I've decided to split them up so they could be voted on separately. Original thread if your wondering: https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/2352-very-old-animal-suggestions-of-mine-i-found/ So, here it is. Jellyfish- moves 1 tile each 2 moves. Gives 2 food (Perhaps 3, 4, or even 5 food instead?) but has a 50% chance of poisoning the creature killing it. Doesn't really care about the nichelings, sometimes even going near them! (Perhaps nichelings with 2+ or possibly 3+ fishing can fish it?)1 point
-
Not really since you wouldn't be able to interact with your surroundings, so stumps would be more useful as you can look out and do stuff1 point
-
If the Sandbox Customizations is added, then we could possibly choose how much food we want to start off with, which would be great if we want to choose to start off with more creatures as well1 point
-
Good idea. Maybe you could choose it in the sandbox options menu? (If it is coming...)1 point

The pic's kind of blurry, but I had a bunch of babies and literally every single last one had A/* immunity or C/* I eventually got one, just ONE male with B/C immunity thankfully XD But until then I basically looked at every new baby like this1 point

I was thinking of getting some more horns, since they seem to lack in numbers and are really cute and helpful. Leaf Horns: help provide shade for those in the Savannah that are hot, like the new acacia trees. The leaves could look like big Elephant Ear plants, or Palm Leaves. +1 Shade -1 Movement (since so heavy) +2 Heat Resistance1 point

Hail should have a chance to stun, only if the animals are out in the open, if they are under a tree/near cover they should be protected.1 point

Yes, either a bit less than +4 or maybe +4 but they only work when swooping and not when attacking normally.1 point
