i bred two females with a bearyena and used their children to start breeding for strength. it took several generations but i finally pulled out all the bearyena genes (except the ears cuz that's just cosmetic) so i can finally do this. its not so usefull right now but its just satisfying because it took so much careful breeding to keep all the genes in there without being able to mutate the snout in until now.4 points

Hi everyone! Here's the 5th GIF competition! We're having an OPEN topic this round again. We were very impressed by your creativity last time, so please surprise us again this round The best two GIFs win a Steam key for the Closed Alpha of Nimbatus. Deadline to enter is Wednesday, 11th of July. (Winners will be announced shortly after). Here are the rules: Post your GIF right here in this thread. Multiple entries per person are allowed. Old non-winning GIFs are allowed as well. Only GIFs recorded with the demo version are allowed in this competition. Please only post GIFs here if you participate in the contest. If not participating, please use this thread instead. @Roger, @Markus, @Micha and @Philo will pick 2 favorites. There will be only awarded one key per person. If you won in a previous contest, we won't award you another key. Please note: You can use [F9] to generate an animated GIF of the last 6 seconds gameplay, but feel free to use other tools. Remember that the best GIF wins! Tell an interesting story with your GIF. For this contest the best looking GIF wins. We'll have contests which award pure logic/cleverness at a later time. We maybe show some of these cool gifs on Twitter, Reddit, etc. Please only post here if that's ok with you. Tipp 1: The GIF capture tool hides bad framerates. If you turn off the Bloom because of performance reasons, turn them on before recording the GIF. The game might have a low frame rate, but the resulting GIF should run smoothly and might result in nicer looking GIF because of the effects. Tipp 2: If you press F9, please wait until the "Generate GIF" message disappears, otherwise your recorded GIFs might get corrupted. Press F9 and wait, and then it should result in a 6 seconds long GIF.2 points

I got super lucky and when I started my Killer Frost Lands file it spawned FOUR ice blocks! So of course I'm going to share! Please comment below on what you got out of your ice blocks, and I'll post an edit here with what I got! Have fun~ ❤️ RimeSlot0.nichesave .::EDIT::. I died twice XD and on the third try, after 60 long days, I finally cracked open all the ice blocks! Here's my progress, in chronological order:2 points

This sounds hard to do, but hey Sims has similiar things (or used to have) and Minecraft is a whole game about building terrain, so why couldn't this be in niche too!2 points

I think this would be a great add on to the sandbox customisation feature request that has a lot of votes right now! I would definitely want a really in depth option like this in the future, though it may be quite hard to do, but this would be great for a lot of challenges and such. Upvoted!2 points

"Coconut stun lock" as I have dubbed it, is the process where a nicheling ends his turn under a coconut tree, is stunned by a falling coconut, and is trapped under the tree for multiple turns by coconuts repeatedly falling on him. This has proved to be quite troublesome for me, as I love staying close to the beach and often find myself contending with coconut trees for prime nesting areas, I also quite like the cracker jaw ability which is quite conducive to eating coconuts, were they not so dangerous. I think there is a simple solution to the problem that not only makes coconuts more viable, but would make beach-side nesting a lot more viable. Hard Skull: +1 Strength, nicheling is invulnerable to falling coconuts. Thank you for reading my suggestion!!!2 points

I'm baaack~! Day 101 Update! Okay, so, I gathered two of every type of nicheling I had and shipped them off the whale and onto the Killer Frost Lands, which was a really rocky decision, but we've managed to survive until this point so I'm going to congratulate the tribe for that XD I've already picked up two of the three ice blocks [one with armored body and the other with hammer tail], and I've got the winged nichelings searching for the last ice block up north. I know it was near a tree, but I'm not sure which tree it was so I'm a liiittle lost lol Meanwhile, the rest of the tribe is south of the search party, making babies because we have 0 food and we're growing old so we need babies to carry on. I've still got the orange peacock warriors, I've got one pink weather predictor, four blue flyers, a couple of yellow scorpions, and a bunch of green healers. My favorite is Vanku, the fluffy black and white healer ❤️ Please take care of him. LetsDoThisTogetherSlot4Day101.nichesave2 points

It would be nice to have more weather types in Niche, not only for immersion but for gameplay as well. The new antenna gene would also benefit from this change by having more weather to sense. I have compiled a list of possible new weather types below. Fog sight reduced by -2 white fur increases camouflage by +2 Thunderstorm all animals have a chance to be struck by lightning lightning has a chance to start a wildfire Hail all animals have a chance to be stunned animals are protected by taking shelter Suggestions on how these new weather types could be improved are welcome.1 point

Hey Niche fans! I had an idea to make a big list of names for our Nichelings for people who don't have any good names for their creatures! Suggest names in the comments (They can be names you just made up just a moment ago, names you used on your creatures, names you saw in videos, or whatever!) and I'll add them to this list. I'll add my own there too! Make sure you tell me what gender it would go for (Female, Male, or Either), and the pronunciation too!1 point

Hi, I what to make a suggestion, Lately I've been playing and one of the problems sometime I have is the "Unlock gene notification", is hard to track which gene you unlock in the menu, so maybe add like a glow feature of something in the gene menu that can show you which gene you unlock. I add an example n,n/ Thanks!1 point
-
Playing on a laptop, even with a USB mouse, I find it slightly difficult and time-consuming to open the family tree menu and switch between looking at skills, the genome, and mutations. Adding hotkeys for viewing these features would make the game run a bit more smoothly, especially for those using trackpads or cheap mouses.1 point

The OP talked about the beak gene also having a level of insect collecting in the last paragraph.1 point

Hey Thanks for the feedback. Some good suggestions there! I'll add it to our list. We have plans for many more game modes similar to the sumo arena, for example a battle arena with weapons, a drone race and some sort of obstacle course / labyrinth that you have to solve with an autonomous drone. The only point that won't be done in the near future is real multiplayer. The only type of multiplayer we have currently planned is drone sharing and playing against autonomous drones of other players in different modes / tournaments. Cheers, Micha1 point

This would be brilliant! Would also be nice if there were large insects (tarantulas or what have you) that could poison your nichelings or even eat the baby's. It would definitely make the feature a lot less one sided in the players advantage.1 point

@MysticTopaz I keep forgetting to play on the LDTT Tribe I made this challenge and now 4 people have completed it before me! I guess I'll just have to create the best tribe ever to make up for it!1 point

Hey I looked around (for a second lol) and didn't see this suggestion. Hotkeys would make things a little smoother and easier. Maybe the "Tab" key or another (non-letter) key could be used to switch between the senses (normal sight, smelling, and hearing). Lol for me, less looking and mouse clicking is easier. And maybe whatever the "U" key currently does can be switched to another key not already in use like perhaps "-" or "=" keys, or the brackets []. Actually, keys for the traits and genetics screens would be cool too. Just a suggestion. Keep up the awesome work.1 point

The family tree view is almost completely a one-stop shop for information except that the age and remaining life for a creature are absent. It seems like there is sufficient space for adding this in the rightmost pane.1 point

Just a quick hint regarding the boxes (and other stuff): try to dump them into the collector1 point

Instead of having your nichelings automagically adapt to the dim light, what if we make a dim light vision gene? Call it night eyes and give them the slit pupil cat eyes have, or a round pupil that occupies a much larger fraction of the iris. Night (nightvision? nocturnal?) eyes: 2 vision in dim light, 1 vision in bright light. Whereas the standard eyes we currently have become: Day (diurnal?) eyes: 2 vision in bright light, 1 vision in dim light. For simplicity's sake, shortsighted and blind genes could remain as they are, with shortsighted giving 1 vision under all circumstances. Night eyes could unlock with, say, 30 days spent in a dim environment. Conversely, this opens up some room for a gene like: Eagle (farsighted?) eyes: 3 vision in bright light, 0 vision in dim light. Not sure that's a good idea, though, since in all but one biome that would be preferable. Unlock condition could be perching on lookout points (stumps and trees) 30-100 times. Taking suggestions for the names. Thanks @Skysplash8 for some ideas.1 point

@Ancestor Nature If sight is reduced by 2, then nobody can see anything! (Normal eyesight gives sight, if you take away 2, that's 0, making them pretty much blind) Also, for the thunderstorms, maybe if lightning hits a tree, it will turn into a burnt stump? (It would set it on fire as well) For hail, maybe if the creature has 1+/2+ Defense, they wouldn't be able to get stunned?1 point

Thinking back to it, the game could possibly combine the current foods to make new diets but I usually get stuck in the "harvest fish and berries" cycle. I know that this would be a fun and unique way to expand my game play style. The head also looks so cute!! I know that I am always going for a look like this anyway in some of my more ascetic challenges. 😊1 point

Perhaps the Sticky Tongue could also eat bug swarms? They might not be worth much food, as getting rid of them is reward enough.1 point

Just finished day 100 for me!! This is my digging faction, which were the ones responsible for getting over 1000 food!! And this is my flying/bird faction! If anyone wants to play with them here, have fun!! Slot4.nichesave1 point

Ahhh this is such a good idea and such a cute drawing! I imagine you could make your nichelings look even more like anteaters if you have them stinky tail haha!1 point

I also think we could be able to design our own islands, like what they look like, what climate they have, what biome, or we could mix and match, like have a mountain biome but the climate was super hot, like a desert.1 point

The "Not" gate doesn't activate its output when the input is a tag that isn't activated. It works fine with a key bind though.1 point

3 Balance Bears, Bearyena (just killed it), Blue Birds, Rogue Males, and now ram foxes...? I've been rolling a number for how many pack members I can have at a time, and currently, it's 5. Gosh the dramas this pulled out XD At first I had twin boys on top of the nest on the tree. But one of them had to go down into the middle of 3 balance bears if they wanted to grow up. Fate can be so cruel... (The other twin brother grew up in the tree. You can see on the left. I didn't let him down, 'cause they can't come back up, AND their attacks are so low they can't even attack the bears)0 points
