  1. Alright, so this is gonna sound really stupid, but how do you use colored text on the forum? I’ve definitely seen it before, and I don’t think anyone has blatantly said how to do so either. I also thought this would be a nice place for people to see it somewhere too.

  2. And so I present the several breeds of Nimbatus sumo drones, including their counters, strengths and examples! Also check out my new guide for information about guidance systems for drones! Contact: Contact based drones rely on their ability to contact their opponent in some way, in order to push them out of the arena. All contact drones are designed to be heavy and powerful. Some contact drones will also employ magnets to help them grab onto a target. RAMMER Rammers simply ram the opponent, unguided, out of the arena. It's simply a button linked to every thruster on board and WOOSH it's outa there! Some rammers may attempt to use some simple guidance systems to help ensure a hit, but otherwise that's it. Because of it's blind attack method, dodger drones are often an effective counter, provided it's fast enough. Since rammers are unguided, they will usually fly out of the arena if they fail to meet they're target. Counters: Dodgers, Gliders, Surprise Bombs Strengths: Center Seekers SURPRISE BOMBSurprise bombs are similar to rammers, but also include a lot of explosive parts, such as fuel tanks. The theory is to ram and explode the enemy into it's parts - in the hope that it confuses, destroys or knocks out the opponent. It is rarely successful, because it's hard to maintain a usable "leftover" and the shrinking ring will most likely be their worst enemy.Counters: Shield/Coward, non-fragile drones Strengths: light drones PUSHER The pusher is a smarter version of the rammer. Pushers will instead ensure that it's enemy is in front of it before activating all it's thrusters, via the use of a distance or direction sensor. This means its less likely to miss it's target, but some carriers can confuse it's guidance systems to activate it's thrusters prematurely. Some pushers also use jump thrusters instead of regular thrusters, to give it a little more edge. Some pushers may also use magnets to help ensure it is able to push it's target out of the arena. Counter: Carriers Strengths: Dodgers, Center Seekers A pusher "Salt levels rising" versus a glider "The Corruption". Notice "Salt Levels Rising" will stop it's thrusters when it's target is not directly in front of it. PULLER Puller drones are only ever seen with mini-drones on carriers or cowards. A puller drone will seek out it's target, and once engaged, will then activate a magnet to pull the enemy out of the arena. Unfortunately, this is rarely more effective than pusher drones, and they will often be countered the same way pushers are. Counter: Carriers, Center Seekers, Gliders Strengths: Dodgers, Rammers, Pushers SPINNER Technically a sub-class of the center seeker (or glider, depending on it's guidance systems), a spinner drone utilizes a lot of thrusters to spin very rapidly, while maintaining it's position in the arena. It's especially lethal, as any drones that contacts it will be knocked off course by it's rapid rotation. Avoidance drones are often too light to handle a spinner, and will not survive once the arena closes. Multi-drones also are often not strong enough. As such, spinners are almost uncounterable (verification required). Counters: Pushers, Pullers Strengths: Everything A pusher "Salt levels rising MK 3" versus "Blender". Notice how the spinner is able to knock away it's opponent out of the arena, thanks to it's angular momentum. Avoidance: Avoidance based drones will attempt to avoid the enemy, until the arena closes, or the enemy falls out of the arena. DODGER The dodger (not to be confused with a glider) will always attempt to move out of the way of enemies. It may be fast or slow, but whatever it's doing, it's trying to get out of there. Often this leads to it falling into the ring of death, as such, dodgers are only ever good versus rammers. Most other drones are able to compensate for dodgers. Counter: Pushers, Center Seekers Strengths: Rammers CENTER SEEKER Center seekers will use some form of guidance system to go to the center of the arena, and sit there. They will often also be very bulky, to survive the onslaught of whatever it is faced against. Since they are usually the more powerful drone, they are able to outlast it's opponents until the ring of death closes in. They are countered by rammers and pushers, able to kick them out of the arena before they are able to get a foot hold. Counter: Rammers, Pushers Strengths: Gliders, Dodgers, Carriers A center seeker spinner "Beyblades" versus a glider "The Corruption". Notice how the center seeker is much heavier than it's opponent, enabling it to maintain it's position in the center of the arena, forcing it's opponent out once the arena closes. GLIDER Gliders are often mistaken for dodgers, but there is a key difference. Gliders will "glide" along the ring of death, by staying as close as possible to it, while not going over the edge. This tactic will confuse most drones into falling out of the arena, when they are pursued. However, they can still be defeated by some pushers, but mostly center seekers, which will be able to knock out gliders when the arena closes. Counter: Center Seeker, Pushers Strengths: Rammers, Pullers Multi-drone: Multi-drone classes will use 1 or more "mini-drones" which act as fully functional drones, that are detatched when the round starts. Mini-drones are often reckless contact based drones, but since they don't contain the drone brain, are of no risk should they escape the arena. As such, they mostly do not use any form of arena edge avoidance. Meanwhile, the main drone containing the drone brain will act as an avoidance class drone, staying safe as their mini-drones do the dirty work. CARRIERS Carriers are among the smartest drones. Carriers will feature several, smaller mini-drones aboard it, which it will deploy when the round starts. This can range from 4 to dozen or more mini-drones. These smaller drones will act like distractions, triggering systems on the opponent, meant for the main drone itself, or the drones may take a contact based strategy. Meanwhile, the main drone (the drone containing the drone brain) may either take part as a contact or avoidance class, or even not do anything at all. Carriers are very versatile, but they are often countered by center seekers, which are much heavier and more powerful than the carrier. Counter: Center Seeker Strengths: Pushers, Surprise Bombs, Rammers, Dodgers A carrier "Necromancer 4" versus a pusher "Bettle". Notice the two different strategies of the mini-drones and the main drone, as the main drone hangs around as a glider, while the mini-drones do all the work. SHEILD/COWARD Cowards will put all it's equipment on one large mini-drone "sheild", which is detached when the round starts and acts as a contact drone. Meanwhile, the main drone "coward" is left to fend for itself or to act as an avoidance drone They are hard to counter, but a smart drone may be able to discern the coward from the shield, or a glider could work in some cases. Counter: Pushers, Rammers, Gliders Strengths: Carriers, Center Seekers, Surprise Bombs A coward drone "The Alien" versus a glider "The Corruption". Think I missed anything? Want to contribute? Share your drone designs so I can make GIFs with them!

  3. Hello, Today I recieved my key for the alpha edition of Nimbatus, which, frankly, I anticipated to get since I saw the weapon editor on a notification e-mail. I jumped right into it and was satisfied with the current results. However I have many comments about the gameplay I would like to share, which hopefully will help in making this game more enjoyable. First I would like to comment about the editor itself. I, honestly expected it would make the weapons far more customizable. For example I was disapointed when i realised I couldnt add whatever effect I wanted on a weapon, of those available of course. But I thought, fair enough it makes sense. What I was a bit confused was the fact that the upgrades have a specific effect without any drawbacks or advantages. For example, why dont positive effects (advantageous upgrades) cost a bit more energy or something or higher attack speed decreases accuracy, which would make sense, and negative effects like shoot force downgrade have positive effects that will make you add them to be useful in more than the type of combination of upgrades you would like to use to make a cool looking weapon. Also, after seeing positive upgrades with a negative counterpart and my thought of each upgrade have both pros and cons is used i would like to see a negative attack speed upgrade for making a sniper rifle type of weapon or a cannon. Last but not least I am really confused with those boxes that have inside what looks like red coins. What are they and what do they do? Other than these comments i am sure that Nimbatus is walking towards the right path. With pleasure, Gregory P.S.: Should I post my suggestion in the suggestions forum as well or this is enough?

  4. Nobody is in a rush here. You guys did a fantastic job with the time it took you so far so i will, personaly, not have any complaints about time at this, which i know will take quite some time to be implemented. Agreed. Yes. I could make you a whole list about the side effects of each upgrade, if you wish me to. It did actually. The number however was so small that I simply didnt see the number change.

  5. @GrigorisN I agree that the Upgrades in the Weapon Workshop are not ideally balanced yet. I think we have a system which allows for good balancing, but we haven't but a lot of time into this section yet, only the system. So I can understand your feedback fully What Micha was saying is that there are not necessarily good or bad upgrades - it depends on how you use them. More recoil e.g. might be useful sometimes, in other cases of course not. We try to have a up/down-grade for every variable/setting, so you can choose how you want to configure your weapon. As for having negative effects: I kind of like this suggestion. Are you saying, for example, if you add a "Use less energy", that maybe the "Damage" also gets slightly lessened? And it's very strange that the "Treasure Chest" with the red resource in it did not bring you any money when dropping into the Container. I should work, but I have to check it myself. Maybe we broke something during working. Thank you for the hint.

  7. 3 Balance Bears, Bearyena (just killed it), Blue Birds, Rogue Males, and now ram foxes...? I've been rolling a number for how many pack members I can have at a time, and currently, it's 5. Gosh the dramas this pulled out XD At first I had twin boys on top of the nest on the tree. But one of them had to go down into the middle of 3 balance bears if they wanted to grow up. Fate can be so cruel... (The other twin brother grew up in the tree. You can see on the left. I didn't let him down, 'cause they can't come back up, AND their attacks are so low they can't even attack the bears)

  9. Apparently nobody has suggested this. Why raise water nichelings when water biomes are so BORING? there is not enough to explore down there. I feel like maybe these suggestions will make it a little more intresting? More fish: I know we have alot already, but it would be cool if we had fish for deep oceans and rivers. So here are my fish ideas! River fish: Salmon. Just an ordinary salmon that goes up stream and then dies. dead body kinda like the clown koi. Deep ocean: Bass. Litteraly a bass. Troop, A trout that swims in groups of 2/3 Tropical fish: Colorful fish that just swim around like a fish. Now sea plant life! Corals: Corals can come in colors of Purple, pink, red, orange, and yellow. Seaweed: It grows very tall and has tons of nesting material. Very common deep in the ocean. Squids: Little squid that ink you if you attack them. the inking takes away one turn for three days. they give 3 food. Pufferfish: They give 2 food and once attacked they puff out and deal one attack to surrounding nichelings. Bubble columns: They randomly start blowing at dig sites at least 5 tiles deep into the ocean. They launch your nicheling up into the air for about 1 second before they come back down. And yeah.. Thats it.

  10. Certain weapons could apply status effects to the ground, such as cryogenic creating ice, making the ground more slippery. Kinetic could do some sort of "ripple" effect, causing something like a miniature earthquake. Bio would still build. Plasma would heat up the ground, perhaps even lighting a fire on the surface.

  11. I think it would be pretty cool if there was a damage type besides bio that did the damage type of bio but instead of building terrain it destroyed it, maybe it could be called "Acid". It would be almost identical to Bio but since it is doesn't build terrain it could be used on world destroyer builds with all the other types of weapons.

  12. Enemies drop: Blue and green resources Special Parts of the drone, such as large batteries or small solar panels. Consumables, such as energy crystals, or fuel. Upgrades with limits for a weapon. Features: All drone parts cost per unit added to the drone. In order to avoid ten weapons of mass destruction added to a drone, weapons could be purchased in weapon editor instead of simply be created and added to the drone. Extra slots could be purchased per weapon. For every slot will be a dramatic increase of its price. Each weapon upgrade sould have cons and pros. For example, Attack Speed Increase should decrease accuracy and increase energy consumption while its counterpart would do the opposite. This will allow the creation of High Powered Cannons and such builds. Customize the efficiency of an upgrade by adjusting the bars that show the stats of the weapon. For example, Attack Speed Increase upgrade, should cost an amount of energy per percentage, while Attack Speed Upgrade 2 or 3 are more energy efficient, yet more expensive, so that the user can make his own upgrade. The cost of the upgrade will depend on how powerful the upgrade is. There could be limits of course and the analogy of the amount money and energy the upgrade costs compared to its effectiveness should be unforgiving for high amounts. No easily made super weapons. Plus the finite weapons feature means even if you manage to make an OP turret you will be able to add it once and will have to make more to increase their number. Finally this will help in the resource consumption because at some point very soon one can research all researches and have no need for resources after that. Fast Charge Battery should have more e/s recovery rate. The name says it, cant have the same energy recovery as the large battery and be called "fast recharge battery". Magnets can be toggled instead of continuous pressing of the activation button. Chest can have other resources combined or not. More drone parts have upgrades. For example, Batteries can have an extra recharge or capacity upgrade, Fuel tanks, thrusters, etc. Drone Parts and Upgrades Upgrade: Decrease Attack Speed (+Accuracy, -Energy Cost) Upgrade: Increase Energy Consumption (+Overall Stats) Part: High Capacity Battery (Four Blocks, No recharge) Part: Storage Unit (Small: Two Blocks, Large: Four Blocks) that can carry consumables, if implemented. Each block can be used seperatedly with respective custom shortcut key.

  13. I updated my game yesterday from 1.1.1 to the newest. When I tried to go in my first world a few minutes ago, it loaded ok. I noticed genes we're switched around on niches, and nearly all my unlocked genes we're now locked. When I went to next day transition, my whole computer crashed. When I reloaded my game, it crashed steam. When I finally managed to get to my saves, the 500 day/900+ food save was GONE! I tried my other save and it crashed before it loaded in. Now I cannot load steam or play niche without my computer crashing. As I have no internet here, I can't load my save. I will when next able to, and figure out how, I just wanted to make everyone aware of the issue I had.

  14. I know many have made this suggestion before, but an upgrade tree for shields, with things like heat/cold resistance, increased radius, sharing HP with shields it's in contact with, increased HP, Parted shield (Shield is split into multiple segments, each with their own HP. It would have much greater HP overall, but each segment would have less HP than the original shield would), Impact resistance/momentum absorption (Shield bleeds off impacts fromsources like ground impacts, or the new hammerhead enemy coming up. It would slow down their movement in the shield, bleeding off their impact into the drone over a larger amount space than the normal impact. This could be increasing or decreasing percentages, with 100% making the shield essentially solid), increased efficiency, and explosion resistance

  15. An upgrade that would be very very powerful, at the cost of certain other stats or facets. YOu would probbaly have to unlock these via sidequests or find them rarely on planets or the like. It would take up a tech slot on a weapon (or other items, if those get added), and conists of things like weapon upgrades with +150% damage, but +100% power consumption and +25% recoil.

  16. Maybe add possibility of adding some facny HUD somewhere in the corner, you may select certain values to show like: - percentage of fuel/energy in selected group of their storages - speed value measured by certain speed sensor, or average speed of few speed sensors - if certain button/tag is on, with description like: If button T is on/off green/red light near writing saying "Shields" - percentage of HP of certain group of elements - distance and/or direction to nearbiest objective/nearbiest enemy/nimbatus - atmosphere properties - altitude - amount of candies in the jar (I never get it right)

  21. Awesome Guide! I can see how much time and effort you put into it. This would be an awesome entry into a Wiki, maybe someday enriched with GIFs. Reading your Guide made me very happy and is motivating to improve this game mode more and more ❤️ Thank you very much There's another type of Drone, but since they are rarely useful, they maybe have no right to be on this list SURPRISE BOMB You stack a lot of heavy drone parts into each other and when you start, the drone explodes into many different parts - in the hope that it confuses, destroys or knocks out the opponent. It is rarely successful, because it's hard to maintain a usable "leftover" and the shrinking ring will most likely be your worst enemy. Counter: Shield/Coward, non-fragile Drones

  22. Since we have Armored Body and Hammer Tail, I figured it would be pretty neat to have an Armored Head. It could easily be based off of the ankylosaurus or any kind of ceratopsian- I'd personally prefer ceratopsian simply because their shields are impressive-looking, but ankylosaurus heads are just as effective while being cuter so I won't turn them down. Now, I hear what you're saying: "Put MysticTopaz, ceratopsians' shields were more for looks than anything!" And yes, that is true, but imagine if they were reinforced and actually were viable shields- that'd be awesome! As for stats, I figure it could give at least a +1 in defense, but I'd prefer a +2. And a regular sense of smell. This would be a perfect addition to the ice genes, btw, just in case everyone was wondering where/how we'd get an armored head .::EDIT::. Thanks to Pokestardragacraft for the addition of this idea: instead of Ankylosaurus or a ceratopsian type of head, the head could be that of a Pachycephalosaurus, adding +1 strength +1 defense and +1 smelling. Meanwhile, the Ankylosaurus would be +2 defense +2 smelling, and the ceratopsian head, if we're going off of legitimate history, would probably be better suited as a +1 intimidation +1 attractiveness +1 smelling rather than having any defense stats. Pachycephalosaurus https://goo.gl/images/wrJDTV Ankylosaurus https://goo.gl/images/FGTUdx Protoceratops [I chose this instead of any other ceratopsian because it doesn't have horns, since this is a head build and horns are separate in the game] https://goo.gl/images/T8ficF

  25. I don't know if anyone has already suggested this but how about making Nichelings with longer lifespans I mean maybe certain traits or genes can make Nichleings live longer or you guys can make a gene all together that makes a nicheling live longer and you have to breed it into your nichelings also maybe Nichelings can find one berry That can keep a certain Nicheling alive forever. But this berry would be really hard to find and one person can only find only a certain amount of berries.

  29. if I might add one thing. with the most recent update making super ultra death machines much harder to do energy-wise, it would be awesome if the heat stuff was more on the manageable side or at least doesn't take up one of the weapon attachment slots. because I have to use those sparingly already.

  31. I much prefer nimbatus with its unlimited parts system. It really makes all the challenges revolve around your current situation, not your budget. Ditto above Fast charge batteries charge faster for their size. 2 fast charge batteries will charge faster than 1 large battery, despite it having the same size. THATS WHY THEY HAVE SWITCH GATES!

  34. This sums up everything I wanted to point out when playing the closed alpha release: Bugs When anti-aliasing is disabled, distance sensor beams may not render at some angles/zooms, (assumedly) due to them being in-between pixels. Solution: make the beam wider. "Risk Level" reports are rather in-accurate, as "low" risk planets can still swarm with more cannons than the German Military Suggestions When the transmitter "cocoons" while under attack, the transmitter effect will be disabled (as it should be no longer transmitting, I assume) until it stops cocooning. Bring back mother hives! have an FTL jump cutscene play when jumping to planets (but can be disabled as the user pleases) Multiplayer co-operative/competitive gameplay? I know that's usually a big ask, but co-operative gameplay never fails to please people. City planets: planets with large sci-fi cities. Visiting them will grant special missions, but you will have to pay a tax to fly to them. Alternatively, city planets could have disasters, where you will have to launch a drone and finish the mission within a time limit (such as killing a giant space snake, deploying certain equipment, or otherwise) Fuel tanks, battery cells and ore tanks can give a key output when they are full or empty Ammo types should show tooltips about their effects. General Feedback I like the changes to the weapon systems, especially the option to have the weapon "fixed". This saves a lot of time, and removes the unnecessary requirement to farm weapons just to get one with a fixed angle. Of course, with the new weapon system, some fun (admittedly over-powered) features will be missed. I hope more planet types, missions and general obstacles to overcome will be added to the game, along side alternative gamemodes, similar to the sumo arena, which require the player to design autonomous drones to solve tasks.

  35. Hey Thanks for the feedback. Some good suggestions there! I'll add it to our list. We have plans for many more game modes similar to the sumo arena, for example a battle arena with weapons, a drone race and some sort of obstacle course / labyrinth that you have to solve with an autonomous drone. The only point that won't be done in the near future is real multiplayer. The only type of multiplayer we have currently planned is drone sharing and playing against autonomous drones of other players in different modes / tournaments. Cheers, Micha

  40. Missions you will have only certain amount of time to finish, but make them unique from other missions For example: RACE, you land in asteroid belt/low/high gravity planet (not ordinary environment) And have for example a minute, a minute and a half to get to certain point, checkpoints. Destroy as much terrain as possible in certain time, destroy certain amount of terrain in shortest possible time, destroy time in minimal terrain. Anyway, creators, be creative about time in Nimbatus
