Okay, I know what you're thinking, but I have a very good reason for not putting on a head, tail, or coloring the legs: I wanted the full focus to be on the body! XD You will most definitely still have a tail and head and colored limbs, I just wanted to focus on the body. Speaking of the body, though, let me first focus on the actual main body then I'll get to the wings: The body is broken up into three sections. The top section of the body is very fluffy and puffy, similar to that of the Big Body, and takes on the dominant fur color. The middle section is smooth and takes on the recessive fur color. The bottom section is also smooth but matches the top section in taking on the dominant fur color. The middle and bottom sections are supposed to be round/cylindrical like a butterfly's body; I did my best to get that kind of impression. The middle section is where the top wings connect, and the bottom section is where the bottom wings connect, though since they're butterfly wings they look like it's all one big wing, so I guess it doesn't really matter when it comes to actually making the models for the game. XD Now for the wings attached to the body: Butterfly wings can vary from bottom [facing toward you] to top [when you view them from the back], so as a result I decided to draw three different types of butterfly wing. All of them offer +4 flying and you can fly with this body, but no swooping. Having two bird wings instead would get you a lot farther a lot faster, of course, but flying for this body is more or less a background ability; it's what you'll see below that's the real stars of the show. Type 1 [at the top with the gradient]: +1 attractiveness, +1 distasteful appearance, +1 poisonous [when being attacked] Type 2 [bottom left green one]: +2 camouflage +1 attractiveness Type 3 [bottom right yellow one]: +2 intimidate +1 distasteful appearance .::EDIT::. I figured it would be best to show a full body complete nicheling with this body as an example, so below I will do just that! Type 1: Type 2: Type 3: .::EDIT2::. I had the idea to draw out variations of the wings, so here we go! I included as many fur colors, horn colors, and eye colors as I could to make these Type 1 Variations! But first, a little info: The body's midsection is the recessive fur color, and the top and bottom are the dominant fur color. The wing's outline is the same as the horn color. The wing's semi-transparent gradient goes like this: The color closest to the body is the recessive eye color and the color closest to the tip of the wing is the dominant eye color. I replaced Violet with Pink because I like it better that way. Besides, pink stands out more. The wing's spots go like this: The big spots are the complimentary color to the dominant eye color [example: Blue-Orange, pink-yellow], and the little spots are the complimentary color to the recessive eye color. Now on to the wings!! Just the wings by themselves: The wings with the body outlines: [because I've been told these are easier to see] The full examples of wing variants with colored bodies: And for flavor, here we have an example of an Albino and a Melanistic nicheling:5 points

Despite the fact that it's winter here in Australia, clearly it is Bushfire Season in my niche world right now! This fire started pretty early when I arrived in the savannah and just never stopped burning. I've been trying to migrate all my creatures down towards the ports (and have the babies I need for the next generation on the way) but even that couldn't save them! A new fire spawned right next to one of my newborn babies, right where their dad was standing!! Hopefully everyone will be able to survive the eight more days needed to finish unlocking all the hot climate genes!3 points

most of the complaints are about the gene system it seems. i think most don't understand how it works, and that it is fine to inbreed as long as the genes are different. that and they want more story. in my opinion most of the complaints are: we did't do research and expected the game to be something it isn't3 points

So I found a really intresting an cool looking "bug" in the demo version of the game. When you fire Rockets like the GIF's show and you repell them with Magnets they accellerate but the RETURN instead of going further… Attracting mode of the Magnets Keep them much closer so i think that isn't really intendet. So, for the looks 😁3 points

I feel like the nests we have now in the game do not really match up with the biome. like nests built in the water should look more like seaweed and coral or maybe a nest built in the mountain biome should look like those dark colored plants you find on the mountain with white flowers in it, the jungle biome nest should look colorful. Basically what I am trying to say we should have different types of nests depending on what biome they are currently located in.2 points

So, some things I had in my gallery are a bunch of "mining"-drones. 1) The first is a Kind of turning-laser-thingy-Thing 2) The second one mines with the most common way: BOMBS! (at first I thought that would sound really cool, but then I realized, that it is really the most common way 😅) 3) The last one is more of a digging-attack-drill-with-exploding-payload-thing which can, correctly fired, hit a target an detroy it.2 points

Maybe it could be mixed with the grub trunk suggestion? After a couple days of it lying down, it starts rotting.2 points

So as of now the names are randomly generated by the game The Males use these syllables: Van, Ro, Duk, Kir, Ta, Nu, and Ku The Females use these syllables: Ra, Is, Re, Si, La, Ko, Me, and Ana So I have had at times 2 Vankirs, or Duktas etc. What if we added a few more syllables to make that less common. Male Syllables: Ti, Tu, To, and Mu examples: Kirmu, Rotu ,Vantu ,Tito ,Tomu, Tunu, and Vannuto Female Syllables: Di, Ki, and Le examples: Anale, Anaki, Kiana, Diana, Dilame, Meanaki, Merale, Ledile, Dikile1 point

So there are genes like derp snout and deformed paw, but there isn't a bad body gene. It's name would be Deformed body or some other name like Hunched body or Cripple Back. It would come with -1 speed, -1 attack, and -1 collecting because the hunched/crippled/deformed body would restrict the nicheling's ability to do actions a normal bodied nicheling would be able to do. While all of this sounds really bad, the chance of getting it would be low because it would be rogue exclusive, non-mutatable, and a recessive gene. Also it would give +1 Distasteful Appearance because of how ugly they would look, and I doubt a carnivore would want to eat them1 point

Hi pack Because of the recent summer sale (which always lead to lots of people who don't think if they really want to play such a game) the Niche review score has gone waaaay down. This is bad for our sales (aka our time we can spend working on Niche). So, if you haven't written a review yet, we'd greatly appreciate if you do so https://store.steampowered.com/app/440650/Niche__a_genetics_survival_game Cheers & Thanks Philomena1 point

Here's my idea: We can have like, a settings in the family tree! It can show the generations, like you can have a button in the family tree that enables you to look at past generations! I tried to edit a thing, so here's how it looks in my mind: So, you can see the generations button down there. If you want to see your first, you click 1st and would get this! Holy crap I just spent so long editing this hhhhhhhhhhhhh. But this is a way I think you could get an endless generational tree! (I got a bit lazy with the last one, as you see the names are all the same.. but deal with it... I cant edit all those lines ahhhhhhhh)1 point

Short Answer: Make parts flash when low on health Long Answer: Currently there is no way to tell the health of your parts. Sure, you'll find out soon enough when that cannon no-scopes you from off your screen, but this is both inefficient and also defeats the purpose of knowing the health of the now non-existent part. There needs to be some way of indicating the health of individual parts to the player, so they can have better judgment about their current situation. There are a number of ways this could be achieved: Health Bars: Simple and efficient, but could be intrusive to the otherwise clean GUI of Nimbatus. Fade Effect: Parts could fade away as they take damage. This would be easy to implement, but probably not very elegant. Flash Effect: Parts could flash red when they are low on health, similar to a number of other games. This would be easy to implement and also very intuitive to the player. Individual part sprites: This is much harder to implement but often returns a good result. Simply having individual sprites for parts to represent how damaged they are quickly conveys there state. The issue with this is that every part would need to be individually sprited several times, which is inefficient for the developers. Particles: Particles are cool. No denying it. Reusable damage texture: Similar to the individual part sprites solution, reusable damage textures will literally show damage in the form of the part seeming to have taken damage. The difference here is that the textures for each level of damage is reused for all parts. This would be much more efficient, saving time. The issue is that it may be troublesome because all parts are shaped different, which could complicate things.1 point

I like the idea of horn growth, and I imagine that if you did not know your baby nichelings had horns it would be quite a surprise.1 point

The " strange B" stands for beta, and while this would be an interesting idea, it would be incredibly hard to implement into the game. And also please work on the grammar in this, it is incredibly hard to understand.1 point

I love this idea! maybe we could have an island where its just sand and rocks, no grass or trees. there would be snakes with legs and beetles, along with no bearyeanas since its too hot for them. it would be a killer island since the only food scource is cacti meat and fish.1 point

This is a small quirk that annoys me just a little. Stagmole burrows and areas your nichelings have dug up are nearly identical to each other. There's very slight differences, I think the dig spots are slightly bigger. And when you enter sight/scent mode only the dig spots will disappear, allowing you to see which mounds are stagmole burrows, but I'd like to not have to enter in a different mode just to tell if I should post my nicheling there. I thought it'd just make things a little easier if they were a little easier to tell apart, perhaps the dig spots could not have the center entry hole stagmole burrows do so it's just a pile of dirt instead, or make the dig spot holes bigger or smaller. Something that makes it a little easier to tell at a glance1 point

I would really like the option to set ALL of the gem colors for my babies at birth, even if the gems aren't showing yet! When the baby is born I immediately look at their genes and I know which colors I want to set the gems, but I can't set them! Instead, I have to come back the next turn, remember what colors I wanted, and set the first one, and then I have to come back twice more and set the last two. This is a lot of clicking and a lot of time trying to remember what babies belong to what colors! Sometimes I have so many babies I am using combos of the 5 colors instead of just one solid color, Like green, blue, green, instead of green, green, green. Then setting them is even worse because I have to try to remember all the colors over several turns which for me can be spaced out over several days (I have an 8 month old baby, I'm busy)! Please give us the option to set the colors of all three gems on the day the baby is born. I know you can't see the gems yet, but that doesn't matter, I still want to set them so I don't have to constantly go back and remember what I'm trying to do. I want to set the gems and forget them, it shouldn't be an annoyance I have to go back and click on several times to update and fix.1 point

I always thought it would be cool to have an archive for your favorite creatures that you have bred or, if combined with the creative mode suggestion, made. If combined with the suggestion to have a creative mode where you can just choose genes to put something together, it would be cool to have two separate archives, one for those you bred in the context of a game, and another for creatures that you built in creative mode if combined with that suggestion. Ideally, you would be able to get a 3D view like in older games like Super Mario Smash Brothers Melee for the trophies. Even better would be animations, but just the archive itself is the core of the suggestion. Steam screenshots are nice, but it would be cool to be able to do more with the really cool ones you end up with. Furthermore, an extension of this suggestion which isn't at all a core part of the suggestion, would be the ability to export your file for 3D printing. To be clear, the core of the suggestion is just that you can save some that you really like to be viewed later. All the rest is just my rambling about the cool things that might be doable with it later. Saving a picture isn't quite the same as saving the 3D asset.1 point

I'd absolutely love it if the starting creatures had more possible genes to have. Possibly excluding things like deformed paw, hemophilia, blind eyes, the prehistoric genes and bearyena genes, but it would be nice if they could have different body types and possibly different hind legs? Maybe depending on the island you're starting on it will increase the chance of them having certain genes.1 point

For a challenge, I think it would be fun if there was a hard or killer island where trees fall. Seeming easy at first, it would be a forest in which there are plenty of oak trees to shake for nuts. However, trees will fall every now and then. When a tree falls, any creature in its path will be killed. It doesn't matter whether the creature is a nicheling, a bearyena, a rabbil, or something else - it will still die while in the path of a falling tree. If a winged nicheling is sitting in a tree as it falls, that nicheling will be killed as well. A felled tree will show up as a log and cover a few spaces for a few days. Then, the log would disappear and anything that was covered by it would reappear as a random tile.1 point

I suggest that the Toxcats would have an extra i in there, spelling Toxicat. It's a lot easier to say this way (It's also the name of my Fakemon, but whatever)1 point

Well, if my tribes go exctinct over rogue males killing my children.. (I usually dont have unattended babies, so whatever) Then.. it would be for a good cause! Have an upvote!1 point

I am early to this post, but I think it would be realistic. Like, think of it as male lions killing off another male lion's offspring so theirs have more chance to thrive. Upvote for the road! (Though it could be hell.)1 point

Ok this is actually more of a role-play aspect of the game. Perhaps there should be a little bubble that you can write stuff about that particular niche. Maybe about the most successful babies born to that niche, roles in the tribe, or just little reminders to breed that niche with another! It would be really helpful to me, who often forgets about breeding my best niches together, and it would be fun to make a little story in the progress!1 point
-
I like this idea! I sometimes gives personalities to my creatures, so it would be fun to have creature bios where I can keep track of those.1 point

Sounds nice! Few suggestions: The day before a tree falls, it should have a crack in it's trunk so you could avoid it. Also it should make a cracking noise. You should be able to gather nestingmaterial and nuts from fallen trees but once they're empty, they're empty and will disappear. It would take 10 days for a fallen tree to despawn. They despawn faster if you collect from them. Also if you collec all they have to offer, they despawn during the next night. Armored body would protect the nicheling so it would only take damage from the hit. It would still be stuck under the tree and it would take damage every day until the tree despawns. Also it could protect baby nichelings by standing in between the tree and the baby. Stones would do the same thing.1 point
-
I hate it when nichelings disappear off the family tree because I always want to be able to remember those that have passed and to be able to look at how dramatically genetics have changed since the start, this is one of my favorite ideas for sure.1 point
