Hi everyone! I'm really happy I decided to finally join the niche community! I've been playing since the beginning, and really enjoy playing it! I'm vFlora, but you can call me Chloe if you'd like! I was born in Maryland, USA and currently still live here. I'm going to be going to high school this 2018 September and would love to be a biologist or journalist when I am older. I enjoy playing video games, drawing, watching anime and writing, and reading (Warriors especially). I love cats but sadly have yet to adopt one. I am a very shy person irl, lol, but am slowly learning to break out of my comfort zone, yay! Also, my favorite youtuber is Seri! Pixel Biologist. And that's pretty much it! Nice to meet you all!4 points

I'm excited! Honestly not a fan of a couple of these, but I'm hyped for quite a few. I'm especially excited for more sandbox customization options!4 points

@Skysplash8 I can tell you what is big and small after we had the discussion round with out programmers & artists ^^4 points

Ok, so I'm pretty excited about several of these, but is it bad that the one I want most is the notification update for the mutation menu?3 points
-
Considering how high both the insectivorious and bat head suggestions got, an insectivorous themed update would work reeeeeaally well just saying (empathetic nudging in the devs' direction) Though for real glad to finally see some possibilities! Whatever you guys end up choosing it looks like I'll definitely be looking forward to it regardless!3 points

I want to be like "I hope this one specific feature gets added!" but I want them ALLLLL! Also, what counts as "small" features and "big" ones? Is one gene (like Savanna Horns) count as small? Does Customizable and Programmable Gem Colors count as big?3 points

I just lost my first tribe last night so I'm a little emotional, but I managed to save pictures of a few favorites. First we have the twins, Prince and Prophet. Prince had my first Peacock Tail and they were my first Antenna Nichelings. Second picture is Tox, Prince's daughter with a wanderer we took in. She was my first Toxic Body Nicheling.3 points

Hello Nimbatus community! My name is Joe. Here I have all of my interesting GIFs experimenting with the mechanics of Nimbatus. Devs I hope you like at least one! I don't usually post in a forum, but I love this game. I have, I have many more ideas that I would like to make come to life. I have one worry though, I worry that this game might become over-complicated (I have no problem with that myself), and if it did it might end the games career before it starts. Just a concern, but I just thought I'd say it. It would be cool to have community modding though *cough *cough devs. So now I'll start explaining all of these ideas, the first GIF (starting from the bottom) was inspired by watching a video of a bullet in this game being effected by the magnets. My ideas aren't complicated, but I do think they are very interesting. I was trying to think outside the box with my ideas, because I would really love a steam key for the closed alpha. Also to spark some of this knowledge with others so the really good builders in this game can make some really cool designs. I have some concepts that I think would be really cool, but I am not that good with logic gates and wouldn't know how to make it work. I know how to make various missiles, vehicles, bombs, ect. I would really like to learn how to use the logic with much more complicated designs. So if someone could maybe make a video or a pinned thread that would be awesome. That was my only rant about that stuff, but now lets actually talk about my ideas. About half of them are generally the same thing, this was just me testing these mechanics and I thought I should share this if no one else knew this. One of my more interesting ideas was my "railgun", now that I am sitting here thinking about it and how I thought it would work I have a better I idea that I'll post later. While making this "railgun" I was thinking if we had struts like in KSP, then in might solve the glitches that happen with the connections. Another interesting idea that I made was the 4 magnets and attempting to make a vehicle that moves easily without thrusters. Then there was the one with the 4 magnets on the bottom (I need to make names for these contraptions), it moved with very little skill, but it was slow. Hopefully, I don't have to explain all the other experiments, if you do want to know more about any of these, or if you want to a nice person and help me learn the logic gates. Then in my next post I'll write my discord username. Thank you if you read the whole thing, and sorry if I did bad this was my first time doing this so there you go. Let me know what you think, and have a good day!3 points

I think this has been suggested before but it was in with a bunch of other ideas in one post and I just loved this idea so much and had another idea to maybe improve it So basically it is a horn slot gene of course, probably would be more rare and recessive. It would give +1 or +2 strength, possibly +1 attractiveness and maybe even healing powers? (like purr snout) I understand if people think that it would be too unrealistic and 'magical' for Niche though... You could unlock it in the menu by inviting a unicorn nicheling into the tribe and then healing (with purr snout or horn) 25 times? Here was the unicorn idea I found after thinking up my own (I did not take inspiration from this) https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/2280-niche-suggestions/&page=0#comment-7253 edit! I made a drawing showing the unicorn horn on a pegamercaticorn (Pegasus mermaid cat unicorn) nicheling. My tablet is not working so I am using good old fashioned paper2 points

Oh, it doesn't? OAO Uh-oh! I thought that it always made the eyes black! Shoot, I dun goofed! -facedesk- oh well, the picture's already there XD If it doesn't disable eye color, then the gradient and spots would be the colors of the eyes just like all the other wings.2 points

I feel it would count it as aging, because while its natural lifespan was shortened in the end it subcumed to the age. Or it could be counted as "Kuro died because of shortened lifespan" or smth.2 points

Yes PLEASE make a backup of your save file before using it! It can really mess up your game!2 points

There's already a cheat system, tough it's buggy. Just press F1. Before using the cheat system, I'd suggest copy-pasting all your savefiles into a safe location2 points

So, niche definetly needs notification updates. An example of this is, One of your creatures died. By what? And who? What happened? I feel this is a problem we all can have. So, here's a request I believe would be simple. Making it so we can actually know who died and possibly by what? I feel it'd be a simple but nice addition.1 point

Maybe add possibility of adding some facny HUD somewhere in the corner, you may select certain values to show like: - percentage of fuel/energy in selected group of their storages - speed value measured by certain speed sensor, or average speed of few speed sensors - if certain button/tag is on, with description like: If button T is on/off green/red light near writing saying "Shields" - percentage of HP of certain group of elements - distance and/or direction to nearbiest objective/nearbiest enemy/nimbatus - atmosphere properties - altitude - amount of candies in the jar (I never get it right)1 point

I wish we could have them all, but I will be happy regardless of what is chosen. I look forward to hearing the results!1 point

There should also be a "Randomize" type to suprise yourself on the options. There should also be a spot to give different kinds of disaster types, like "No Droughts", or stuff like that. This is an amazing idea, one I thought about when I first started playing, but completely forgot about when the polls started 🙂1 point

What is the difficulty of your jungle island? If it's a medium jungle, apes are less likely to spawn than on the hard or killer ones.1 point

thank you hey dude, my favorite bird is the crow, because of their high intelligence they use to identify threats, figure out ways to get new food sorces like making cars run over nuts to smash them, dropping rocks in water to displace it and using twigs and stems to extract food(WHICH BY THE WAY COMES IN HANDY IN URBAN ENVIRONMENTS), they even make it hooked to help them out with that, F-you do you think I have zero understanding of biology, evolution or etc. I should have specified first probably that I meant in niche(because duh), you should have probably thought of the GAME when you read my section1 point

@Grizzy Bear Can't tell how the individual gifs will do in the competition, but I found it very interesting to see your studies 😃1 point

Just one pointer, if you are okay with me saying: If your nicheling's eyes are blue, that means the blue is dominant, and so the blue on the wings would be closer to the tip of the wing, while the pink would be closer to the body- like the pink and blue one in the pictures I put in the description ^u^ The way the wings are, as you have them in the picture, would signal that your nicheling's dominant eye color is violet. But your drawing is still super beautiful and I think you did an awesome job!1 point

Yeah, this would be cool. These should also have rarity types, just like the pre-alpha weapons.1 point

If you have you had a problem with predators attacking you even though you have a distasteful appearance, well I do I don't know about you but I think that if a nichling has a distasteful appearance rouge males won't breed with them and predators will think that there not yummy because they look bad. that is the update that i want for niche1 point

Totally upvoted this idea! But I have a few questions. For moving across the ice, what if you wanted to walk to a tile that supports your weight, but in between that tile and your currrent location there is a tile that doesn’t support your weight? Wouldn’t that mean you would fall down before you get to your wanted spot? Also, if you always slide, say you your Nicheling on a tile so you click on the tile before. The tile before does not support your creature’s weight, so would you fall down? Can you place nests on ice, and if so how would that work with weight? Can predators walk on ice, can they fall through?1 point

maybe we could also change how each gene will affect the nichelings skills. so if you think a gene is under or over powered you can change it. or if you want to make some really strange game play you can make fur color all that matters and everything else is just cosmetic XD. but of course you couldn't get most of the achievements this way. im no programmer or anything but i don't think it would be hard to implement.1 point

OK, let me explain. First of all, SimEarth wasn't like SimLife was, or is. SimLife was more of a game, whereas SimEarth was actually a simulation - set the initial conditions, and see what happens. Yes, there were ways to interfere with the way things were going, but that wasn't the main point of it, as in the case of a game. That's why even the creators described it as a computer "toy" rather than a "video game". But yes, I guess what I would be asking for, similar to those wanting a more "sandboxy" sandbox mode, is maybe a simulator mode. As for the guy who says body parts are all that matters, well, that shows utter ignorance of modern studies of wildlife, both urban and in the wild. Intelligence is being selected for HARD in the modern world, especially amongst those critters most in contact with humans, or affected by human activity. I saw someone ask for a city biome, and that's exactly where intelligence comes in. Now imagine an urban wildlife simulator with an intelligence mechanic ... It would be a nice additional feature, I think. As long as you're not an unwitting devotee of the philosophy of Descartes and think your fellow creatures are nothing but automatons. Hhis math was good, but his philosophy was bloody horrible.)1 point
-
one thing though, all nichelings seem equally intelligent cause what they do DOESN'T depend on their BRAINPOWER, it depends on the body parts MOSTLY1 point
-
and how do you suppose it could work in Niche? if there were an "intelligence" gene, how would it work in game? as you said, the choices are made by the player. so every Nicheling has the intelligence of the player controlling it if you want them to throw things, maybe there could be a throwing paw or whatever but since they can't act on their own or let alone think for themselves, how would intelligence affect anything? you can't just throw around what you would like to see in a game like this without giving a solution as to how it could work in that specific game and what do you mean with "computer toy" games are games. they are for having fun, as are toys. there is little difference between a game and a toy, the only one that comes to mind is that a game has rules and a toy is the object you play (games) with and the goal of Niche is not to form a civilisation, it is to find an evolutionary niche. both is about evolution but there end the similarities. if you want a game like simearth you are at the wrong adress because the game has a different intention.1 point

Personally, don't like derpsnout and will never use it unless in dire situations. Plus, with that decently big nose on it, how would it not smell?1 point

Helomst! Not so new here, but maybe I still should introduce myself. I'm an B+ student from Poland interested in ITC-direction education. Would like to maybe somewhere in the future open a studio creating manual entertainment software, aka games. I'm here to play Nimbatus and give ideas for improvements in it. I can't do anything, but if you ask me to do anything, you still may get what you wanted (If I want you to get it). Right, that's it I guess.1 point

If you use a steam machine, steam will run in the big picture mode. To change to the release_preview version you have to do this: Click on Manage Game right under the Niche Logo and then click on Select Beta Button and select the release preview branch. When it says missing executable, you should probably reinstall the game as something went wrong.1 point

This is Star-Gaze, a very special nicheling born today while testing the new update. He has the purr snout and the peacock tail, and he's a blind-albino nicheling. Since the moment he was born I absolutely fell in love with him! I was just trying to spread the new genes in my testing tribe and this came out! One of my favorite nichelings so far <31 point
