  4. Letting Nichelings live longer would also help role play! Or just people making amazing Ocs and what not out of the little Nichelings. For example you could decide oh this gal looks like she has her stuff together she isn't sickly.. let's let her have a long life, or if a nicheling saved someone but took tons of damage you could also decide to either have them die in the process or give them a longer lifespan than usual to kind of reward them? Also being able to choose the amount of food eten in a day would be fun because you could literally do a little feast or reward a Nicheling! For most of these to happen though, I'm guessing if you were to edit life spawn in niche sandbox mode than it would have to effect everyone.. but if it didn't have to and was able to be edited that would be fabulous!

  6. Here's the 6th GIF competition! This time, it's a LOGIC this round The best two designs win a Steam key for the Closed Alpha of Nimbatus. Deadline to enter is Wednesday, 1st of August. (Winners will be announced shortly after). Here are the rules: Post your design here in this thread. Multiple entries per person are allowed. Old non-winning GIFs are allowed as well. Only drones recorded made with the demo version are allowed in this competition. Please only post designs here if you participate in the contest. If not participating, please use this thread instead. @Roger, @Markus, @Micha and @Philo will pick 2 favorites. There will be only awarded one key per person. If you won in a previous contest, we won't award you another key. Please note: You can use [F9] to generate an animated GIF of the last 6 seconds gameplay, but feel free to use other tools. This time, the best ideas/constructions win! The GIF itself is not super important. Just make sure we all understand why your design is smart/interesting/new/cool/... You can also upload your drone here if you like! We maybe show some of these cool gifs on Twitter, Reddit, etc. Please only post here if that's ok with you. Tipp 1: The GIF capture tool hides bad framerates. If you turn off the Bloom because of performance reasons, turn them on before recording the GIF. The game might have a low frame rate, but the resulting GIF should run smoothly and might result in nicer looking GIF because of the effects. Tipp 2: If you press F9, please wait until the "Generate GIF" message disappears, otherwise your recorded GIFs might get corrupted. Press F9 and wait, and then it should result in a 6 seconds long GIF.

  7. something cool happen when i played just now, i had obtained a new baby bearyena and it started to follow my nicheling around, the nicheling it followed has the bearyena head and hind legs. does it think that is his mother because of the head? if so, that is very cool. and yes i tested it, i even moved it 2 tiles away and he still followed my nicheling, that was interesting to see. Edit: he kept doing it until he became an adult.

  10. Short answer: Add an upgrade to make ammunition types better Long answer: Seeing as more different “types” of ammunition now have their own purpose, they will probably be more relied upon to fill that criteria. This will mean players will want more powerful effects from their ammunition to perform a function. Therefore, there needs to be some sort of upgrade for weapons to make them more “potent”, such as making bio-ammunition generate terrain faster, cryo ammunition freeze and plasma ammunition heat faster. This will make their effects more useful to players, instead of just a slight change of abilities.

  12. I was thinking about what I would do if I had this option, as a challenge run: If I'm in story mode, I'd turn the tutorial off. I don't need it. If I'm in sandbox, I'd start with 10 creatures and 50 food. Now, for lifespan: I'd make every animal except prey live a lot longer naturally, and healing effects and damage would be scaled appropriately. For scale, creatures would live for 250-300 days, and their life stages would be scaled up accordingly. That includes pregnancy, it would last for around 10 days. I feel like being able to have babies constantly would be OP. I scaled up life stages partially for roleplaying purposes, especially in story mode so that Adam and/or his children could still be around when you reach Home Island. Here's the "challenge" part. Damaging factors would be proportionally more dangerous compared to default. This means that generic predators like carnivores are now actually dangerous, hemophilia would be an instant death, not having poison resistance could kill a creature, and starvation and illness could seriously weaken the tribe. Now, an exception to this would be thorns and cacti. They'd be less dangerous than in default, because I honestly think they're just annoying. As in, it shortens the lifespan of a creature, but isn't as deadly. To make up for all of this, healing plants would spawn slightly more frequently. For predator spawning: I would make generic predators like bearyenas spawn more often, as they seem kinda rare with the default settings, but I want killer predators (apes, killer bearyenas, balance bears) to spawn less often. Why? Because I want them to be a rare, exciting threat, and running from multiple balance bears at a time gets annoying very fast. Also, the same goes for carnivorous plants -I want them to be a rare threat, and I think leaving the default spawn rate on would just make them annoying rather than exciting. For wanderers: I'd make them spawn more, because with the above settings, creatures would be dying frequently, and I feel like not having the extra help would make it too hard. Rogue males, on the other hand, would be much rarer. That way, they don't interfere so much, and they're exciting rather than annoying when they do appear. Edit, two parts I thought of: I'd make islands bigger, so that it would take longer to navigate them and thus it would be a bigger challenge. In Story Mode, I'd only turn it up slightly larger, so that Adam and/or his children still have enough time to get home. In Sandbox, I'd turn it up to it's highest setting, just to make it a hard challenge. (Burning Savanna is already huge enough, it would become enormous -that's what I want!) If you are allowed to edit the stats of animals, then I would scale eyesight, smelling and hearing up, for realism, challenge, and to compensate for huge island size (at least on mountains and the oasis). Also because I'm curious as to how that would affect gameplay.

  13. I wanted to see if I could make a little clock, but there weren't enough keys so I did this little counter thing that goes from 0 to 9. I did this because I knew it would be a challenge to create a timing mechanism without any wait command. I don't know if it is being implemented already but some block that gets the input, waits a second or two, then gives the output could be helpful for more technical drones, or maybe like in @Baron's above, a small "missile" launcher that releases one after another. Another use for this could be to better time the magnets pulling and pushing bullets on the railgun idea of @Grizzy Bear. I just wanted to bring this idea to light.

  14. @Lilytuft I think on albinos it should be just white the red color in albino eyes dosn't come fron any special pigments, it is the lack of pigments that let you see the blood behind the iris seeing blood in the feathers would be weird, to some degree possible -at least for the quill part- but weird so the accent colors for albinos should be just white

  19. From what I saw in the promotional material for this game, I noticed one picture showcased nichelings with different pupil types (I've included the picture in this post for reference) . I was thinking that it would be a nice addition if nichelings could mutate different pupil types. It could either be purely aesthetic, like the nicheling's eye color, or the pupils could have some survival advantages. For example, the slit pupil gene could make sight better in darker biomes, like the swamp, Cephalopod eyes would increase sight underwater, etc.

  20. Okay, I know what you're thinking, but I have a very good reason for not putting on a head, tail, or coloring the legs: I wanted the full focus to be on the body! XD You will most definitely still have a tail and head and colored limbs, I just wanted to focus on the body. Speaking of the body, though, let me first focus on the actual main body then I'll get to the wings: The body is broken up into three sections. The top section of the body is very fluffy and puffy, similar to that of the Big Body, and takes on the dominant fur color. The middle section is smooth and takes on the recessive fur color. The bottom section is also smooth but matches the top section in taking on the dominant fur color. The middle and bottom sections are supposed to be round/cylindrical like a butterfly's body; I did my best to get that kind of impression. The middle section is where the top wings connect, and the bottom section is where the bottom wings connect, though since they're butterfly wings they look like it's all one big wing, so I guess it doesn't really matter when it comes to actually making the models for the game. XD Now for the wings attached to the body: Butterfly wings can vary from bottom [facing toward you] to top [when you view them from the back], so as a result I decided to draw three different types of butterfly wing. All of them offer +4 flying and you can fly with this body, but no swooping. Having two bird wings instead would get you a lot farther a lot faster, of course, but flying for this body is more or less a background ability; it's what you'll see below that's the real stars of the show. Type 1 [at the top with the gradient]: +1 attractiveness, +1 distasteful appearance, +1 poisonous [when being attacked] Type 2 [bottom left green one]: +2 camouflage +1 attractiveness Type 3 [bottom right yellow one]: +2 intimidate +1 distasteful appearance .::EDIT::. I figured it would be best to show a full body complete nicheling with this body as an example, so below I will do just that! Type 1: Type 2: Type 3: .::EDIT2::. I had the idea to draw out variations of the wings, so here we go! I included as many fur colors, horn colors, and eye colors as I could to make these Type 1 Variations! But first, a little info: The body's midsection is the recessive fur color, and the top and bottom are the dominant fur color. The wing's outline is the same as the horn color. The wing's semi-transparent gradient goes like this: The color closest to the body is the recessive eye color and the color closest to the tip of the wing is the dominant eye color. I replaced Violet with Pink because I like it better that way. Besides, pink stands out more. The wing's spots go like this: The big spots are the complimentary color to the dominant eye color [example: Blue-Orange, pink-yellow], and the little spots are the complimentary color to the recessive eye color. Now on to the wings!! Just the wings by themselves: The wings with the body outlines: [because I've been told these are easier to see] The full examples of wing variants with colored bodies: And for flavor, here we have an example of an Albino and a Melanistic nicheling:

  21. I thought it might be cool to add a horn type unlocked after so many days in the savanna, the opposite of that for the mountain/snowy biome. When I think of horned animals in the Savanna I think of the Kudu, a deer looking creature with tall, twisted horns. I drew some in my art class today and edited them onto a nicheling model. They would have the usual +1 strength of horns and for unlocking would require the same amount of attack and days in the biome as the antlers would

  22. It annoys me a little that you're able to see fish on your vision sensors and find underwater dig sites only if you're standing next to them, but unable to see them when entering the smell/hearing screens. So as a solution that's both realistic and useful game-wise, I think the platypus beak and gills should be able to detect electric currents in the water. A platypus' beak has a whole bunch of sensors in them that allow them to utilize "electroreception," which just means they can sense electric currents to locate prey. Sharks also share this type of "sixth sense" in their snouts, which also helps make them excellent predators! I figured this change would work much like smell or hearing would, entering the screen would put a green highlight around prey (or predator), entities in the nearby tiles. It would make it easier to find dig sites for our platypus-beaked nichelings rather than the current method of hoping-you-happen-to-be-right-next-to-it. Maybe for the cases of fish, where there's no grass or anything that really "blocks" your sight of them, the electric currents can leave a trail outside your current sight-range that's stronger the closer you are to the schools of fish, and grows weaker (and eventually disappearing completely), the further away you are. It would also be an ability exclusive to the platypus beak and gills which would make them much more valuable to shoot for when making a water-dwelling tribe!

  23. so um this is wierd and frustating since the lava update(the recent one) everytime im trying to create a new weapon it just don t work im trying (on a new created word) to make a freezing lazer but somehow it just now working ill explain the detail to know - ive deleted every starter weapon to create my own - my first weapon is a blaster whit kinectic ammo and -20 power, speed 1 and damage 1 - i did not rename the weapon - that weapon succesfully created and i don t have any problem whit - second weapon that im trying to create is a long lazer whit cryo ammo and -20 power and damage 1 - this weapon created whit the name of the first weapon but ive rename it and PRESS ENTER (if not the name don t register and it annoing) - when exiting the tech tree i see the 2 weapon in the weapon folder - i select the weapon , put it on my drone and then keybinding it - i want more so i do Ctrl-C , Ctrl-v . . . and then here start the wierdness for some reason it copy paste the blaster -.- then im trying it again and the same thing happen im trying to save the drone ,quit the file and relog the save and. . . selecting the drone edit the drone go in weapon and my laser is not there anymore trying to find it in the tech tree and nothing so ive try to restart the game thinking it was a corrupt loading abd the same thing happen. . . it kinda sad but also it a closed alpha so expect some major bug like this one

  24. An upgrade that would be very very powerful, at the cost of certain other stats or facets. YOu would probbaly have to unlock these via sidequests or find them rarely on planets or the like. It would take up a tech slot on a weapon (or other items, if those get added), and conists of things like weapon upgrades with +150% damage, but +100% power consumption and +25% recoil.

  26. Really? In my experience, healing plants are way rarer than that. I typically never explore the entire island, I just go in a path from one port to the next, and I usually see 1-3 healing plants on any given island (depending on biome, of course).

  34. I noticed that nichelings with peacock tail or antenna always have either purple or blue accent colors, respectively (at least from the front, and only males for the peacock tail). However, I don't think that that goes well with all fur colors, horn colors, and eye colors. I think that a possible solution could be either to make it a complimentary color of the color it is on, or have it based on eye color (so a nicheling with orange eyes would have orange accents, a nicheling with blue eyes would have blue accents, etc.). A new gene slot could also be a solution, but I don't think it's the best one, as it would only end up applying to creatures with specific genes.

  35. Nice idea. Beige-blue antenna don't look good, but with brown eyes it would. Actually, brown eyes could be a nice gene for once! And imagine an albino creature with red antenna (and red antenna stripes!) Ooh the possibilities!

  37. I had an idea called the flowerfern, it is a plant that grows on trees, rocks, stumps and the ground in jungle and Savannah biomes, you can sit in it, and use it as a free nest, but these are heavily guarded by dodomingoes and burrowing owlparrots, you can also pick it up and put it on your back(needs adult), it gives you 2 camouflage when worn in those biomes, for the cost of -1 in all movement stats, it also takes a hit for you, but gets destroyed after one hit, you can also break it to get 5 material and 5 food

  38. This would be good only if we could fully customize it, add/delete what we want and move where ever we want. Then of course, preset configurations. This is so people who don't like a lot of stuff on their screen while they're playing.

  39. This is a really cool idea! I wanted to add something to this too. Maybe hovering over the nesting material let’s you see how much of each type of material you have. Nests will match the biome if you have enough material and if you don’t, nests will be made out of the material you have the most of. There would also be a customization button say if you want to mix materials for a custom nest.

  42. Thank you~! I like it, too, and I felt Butterfly would be best for that purpose- it gives the same amount of flying ability as one wing, so if you want a 'professional' flying nicheling then having two bird wings would still be the best option, but for those of us who like pretty things and don't want to lose our collecting prowess, Butterfly Body would be best ❤️ Just imagine a precious little Short Snout with Round Ears, beige dominant and chestnut brown recessive fur colors on the Type 1 Butterfly Body, with Antennae, Double Nimble Fingers, and a Fishing Tail~!

  45. By the way, there is already an animal that is almost exactly like this in real life. Sugar gliders appear a lot like flying squirrels, but they are in the marsupial family, not the rodent family like flying squirrels. They have pouches that they use to carry their young for their first few weeks of life like your squirroo. Other than that, just by appearance, the two would seem to be very closely related, but the similar skin flaps between their fore and hind legs that allow for gliding are the result of convergent evolution. Sugar gliders live only in Australia, have opposable thumbs, and live much longer than flying squirrels - 10 to 15 years. They also do not have the squirrel's eternally growing teeth and are much smaller than the squirrel.

  46. Good idea, might just be a little to much/ to complicated to implement though (I have no idea how complicated it actually is but it could imagine it to be ^^ )
