  2. as of now fire is unstoppable besides being rained on, also apparently the burning savannah is a "medium island" which is odd, with the way fire behaves now it's at least hard due to diminishing resources, also nichelings can have mole claws, maybe they could burrow or dig a "trench" to stop it?

  3. Currently on the game a blind nichling can only move to tiles that are seen by other nichlings. However, blind people in real life still move around and navegate the world based on other senses like sound and touch. So I suggest giving two unique actions to blind nichlings. 1. Blind nichlings should be able to have a listening action. It would allow blind nichlings to hear the tiles around them, making it so they can move around. You would be able to click action this in the same spot as the purring action. *How far the nichlings can hear depends entirely on their ears. 2. The touch/feel action. This would allow them to touch/feel something they can’t hear and interact with. For example touching a piece of grass, would allow them to clear it away next turn. This gives the nichlings more mobility.

  4. Alright, so I've seen some suggests asking for some type of creature creator/demo mode or whatever. I have been working on this for a while and I thought I'd make a new post since there's a lot more than just "A demo mode". This is gonna be mostly made up of pictures from what I call "Tutorial Mode" and I'll leave a link to a page with pictures without the text from tutorial mode. So first you can access this mode from the home screen like so: And then you would start at the creature creator (and to turn on tutorial mode you do this first (tutorial mode can be either be functional just with the yellow text or an example that goes away after you click)): Which can take you to either the creature list or the select mate screens which look like (also note that the scroll on the right on all screens is not accurate, and is just there to display its existence): (Where you can import creatures from save files like this: ) And confirming a breed brings you to the offspring list which is: Where there are trait statistics and custom filters (list of traits made by @Aysling here: https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/626-nicheling-sort-filter-and-select/&page=0#comment-2030) : Or you can go to the punnett square: And from anything outside of the creature lists, you can go to the gem colors (which you can find individually here: https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/646-customizable-and-programmable-gem-colors/) And the color cycle looks like this: And after all of that, you could use the creatures you used to start in sandbox mode like this: (Picture in production) So yea, that's all of it. Please let me know of any mistakes I might have made since this was a lot or of any logical inconsistencies. If you want to see the pictures without the text from tutorial mode, you can go to this link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/16dVKParfTHqHpSsuPD_UA_6cozEJ94_4Wtxpff6lIsE/edit?usp=sharing

  5. The only time creatures make different noises (like what you hear when you click on them, when they get hurt, the new 'call for mate' ability etc.) is dependent on if they are a baby or an adult. You can have two extremely different looking creatures and they will sound exactly the same. This feature wouldn't be meant to affect gameplay, it would just be a nice little detail. For instance, it would make sense for a big-bodied creature to have a 'deeper' voice than a normal-bodied creature just because of their size difference. The easiest way to implement this would be to just have it based off of the body types since that could only change the pitch of the creature's voice. Having different sounds for different head types would be neat too but I could see it being more work. It would be funny if spit/derp snouts had a silly voice to match their face, or if beaks sounded more bird-like and purr snouts made more meow-like sounds.

  6. This suggestion is pretty cut and dry and like a year old, but oh well Like Rogue Males, there could be Lonely Ladies who carry similar genes as Rogue Males, mate with your male nichelings, and steal nests like dodomingos in order to have those babies, which will then either become Lonely Ladies or Rogue Males depending on their gender, though they will follow her around in the tile behind her like a bearyena and her cub until they're old enough to wander away. Rogue Males and Lonely Ladies won't mate with each other, though; just your nichelings. Also if you leave a baby unattended, the Lonely Ladies will take them away, and the baby will follow her around like her own Rogue/Lonely baby, but instead of going Rogue/Lonely once they're adults, they'll turn into Wanderers that you can invite into your tribe. If you want to take your baby back before then, like immediately after she steals it away, then you'll have to kill her.

  7. Here's the 6th GIF competition! This time, it's a LOGIC this round The best two designs win a Steam key for the Closed Alpha of Nimbatus. Deadline to enter is Wednesday, 1st of August. (Winners will be announced shortly after). Here are the rules: Post your design here in this thread. Multiple entries per person are allowed. Old non-winning GIFs are allowed as well. Only drones recorded made with the demo version are allowed in this competition. Please only post designs here if you participate in the contest. If not participating, please use this thread instead. @Roger, @Markus, @Micha and @Philo will pick 2 favorites. There will be only awarded one key per person. If you won in a previous contest, we won't award you another key. Please note: You can use [F9] to generate an animated GIF of the last 6 seconds gameplay, but feel free to use other tools. This time, the best ideas/constructions win! The GIF itself is not super important. Just make sure we all understand why your design is smart/interesting/new/cool/... You can also upload your drone here if you like! We maybe show some of these cool gifs on Twitter, Reddit, etc. Please only post here if that's ok with you. Tipp 1: The GIF capture tool hides bad framerates. If you turn off the Bloom because of performance reasons, turn them on before recording the GIF. The game might have a low frame rate, but the resulting GIF should run smoothly and might result in nicer looking GIF because of the effects. Tipp 2: If you press F9, please wait until the "Generate GIF" message disappears, otherwise your recorded GIFs might get corrupted. Press F9 and wait, and then it should result in a 6 seconds long GIF.

  10. I signed up to these forums just so I could respond to these types of topics! I was getting back into a new game of Niche today.. and I realized that I really love the idea of there being a reason (beyond my own self torture) of breeding a tribe of blind Nichlings! Or at least a reason to keep at least one blind Nichling around.. perhaps they can sense things from a greater distance but they are still very weak. They would help the tribe spot danger sooner, maybe find natural nests, or food easier. Even if the blind are kept at the same movement disadvantage, just an improved sense would be really neat I think! ^-^

  13. Gills they need more of a purpose, may I suggest 2 swimming or an ability to lure the smallest of fish to give it purpose? Poison Fangs perhaps we could bring back the 1 strength to this gene or add some sort of battle cry(boosts adjacent creatures attack by +2) with this gene? Antlers ... a bit of a hassle to get, honestly outclassed by ram horns, perhaps they could add attractiveness in males? Because Male deer Hammer tail ... a supposedly strong powerful offensive tail, only gives an honestly puny 1 point of attack, maybe it could also inflict some sort of knockback? maybe it can knock back an enemy 1 or 2 tiles? or maybe this gene is ok now coz it has cracking

  14. I like the swimming idea Maybe there could be a sort of lure feature because the creature looks like a fish and so fish are more attracted to creatures with gills
    1 point
  15. Maybe it can let you unlock some sort of fishing snout? or give you swimming because it is streamlined, maybe 2 swimming

  16. Hammertail also can crack nuts... not sure if it needs a bost that much. Yeah, poison fangs should have something else and I agree completly on the antlers, apart from different looks they just don't add anything that ramhorns give. I really like the attractiveness idea You are right gills are useless but I am not sure how they could be made better, because them giving fishing is a little odd.

  17. I think the forum calmed down a little after the second community voting and now everyone is just waiting to hear what the new features will be Also in most countries it's summer time so I guess people are on holiday and stuff

  18. Gills don't help with fishing in real life, so I doubt Gills would get +1 Fishing. I do agree that Poison Fangs should get something else, since it's useless if you have Scorpion Tail.

  19. But why should it be fair? In the end it is about survival and fairness has no place there

  20. This is "Fast flee". It turns from a howercraft in to a mouse controled drone. I am very proud how it turned out. Here it looks like a howercraft and it controls like a howercraft. Here i turn off the part that makes the howercraft float and using space key it detaches from it and becomes a mouse controled drone. And after flying in the mouse control mode with space it returns in to the howercraft mode and when it goes in to the hower thing you turn on the magnet and it is a normal howercraft again. It can turn in to the mouse controled mode and back forever. Most of the logic gates switch betwene the two direction sensors. I am not very good with logic gates so it took me lot of time to make. (sorry for bad grammar, my home language is not english thanks for understanding)

  22. This is such a great idea! I have been wanting to make a birds of paradise challenge but it takes ages to breed the perfect pair to start it off- this could be useful, for instance, if you wanted to start in a difficult climate but still survive.

  23. I agree. When I was marching one of my tribes through the Savannah I realized there were fires at every port, so we had to wait and starve a bit until the flames moved. This is somewhat similar to an idea I had to stop the fires. When I was playing I made my Nichelings destroy all the grass in a 2 tile radius all around the fire, but it kept burning. I was hoping that they would add some kind of system where you could destroy 2-5 grass tiles and the fire would at least stop spreading...

  24. (Out of competition) Yet it is pretty buggy, OmegaRouge prolly gonna make a mod that is gonna shorten time of making those from 2.5h (plus 3.5 hours due to 3 crashed and starting from beggining) to 20 mins also would like to see dynamic buffers (Like dynamic thrusters, but changing buffering time) 2018-07-13 21-45-48.mp4 snek.nimbatusdrone

  25. For a second I thought this was accidentally put here by a Nimbatus person.. (Btw I have no clue what the Nimbatus game is...) But, I like the burrowing idea, but the rest is unrealistic for niche I believe.

  26. also maybe the loyal lonely lover will distract predators and (try) to fight them off if they approach his "mate"

  27. I think that you would need collecting to gather honey. They could try, but they would have a change of breaking the hive. (all these nichelings have one bearyena claw)

  30. Nicheling notes would be a helpful addition for the roleplayers of Niche. Ideally, it would be an optional tab to record information about your nichelings in more detail than the family tree can provide, such as: their name, their age, their physical appearance, who their parents were, who their siblings were, who their mate was, how much offspring they produced, how far they traveled and how they died. Nicheling notes would be recorded in the family tree even long after their death, so that their contribution to the tribe’s history would be remembered. I think this idea has potential, and could bring new meaning to the game for the truly dedicated.

  31. When I was sending my creatures to the last "island" in the archipelago before the swamp, the first three creatures that tried to cross the water drowned. As I was leaving, a wanderer spawned on that island and got hit by a coconut. My stay at Swampy Hill was surprisingly peaceful, but when I tried to leave, a chain of events happened. I had a rogue male mate with my home star, and killed him with poison. Shortly after that, a rogue male with toxic body spawned. One creature looked very similar to his father, and I accidentally mixed them up. The path to the jungle port involved walking through a section of shallow water, and I had a creature get hit by a coconut. When I was almost there, I encountered a wanderer. I figured that this wanderer could start a family with the other creature I was leaving behind, so I sent her into the mini jungle in the center of the island... Only to have her get attacked by the carnivorous plant in the mini jungle. I've never traveled to a Rainforest island with so much jungle foliage before. I swear, there was twice as much foliage as there usually is. The river in the center was more tedious to cross than ever, in part due to the foliage and a carnivorous plant. I decided to get out as quickly as possible because there wasn't enough food. To add insult to injury, the first smelly fruit tree I encountered was surrounded in stick piles. As I was almost out, I found a wanderer who might be mistaken for a rogue male, he was blind with two bad paws and derp nose. I'm not sure why I decided to waste food on him. I am currently on Overgrown Jungle. I had a toxic rogue male mate with two of my females without me noticing, and then I had to save a creature from another carnivorous plant. The direct path to the blocking vine roots is blocked by carnivorous plants, so I have to take the long way out of the swamp. I swear, this save file is cursed.
