  1. Thanks for all your comments. Based on what I'm reading, perhaps a middle ground can be found in the following: You need to have the skill to get an actual +1 bonus If you don't have the skill, you don't get +1, but an increased chance of success at trying. It's not as good as getting a +1 but it may still be worth the trouble.

  2. So all credit to @Niche fan for suggesting this! But they never explained how it would work in game, so I'm suggesting how it will work! So, I'm doing this because I noticed it was in the second community voting of the top 20 most voted. So, here we go! List of all heterochromia I have seen in cats in pictures: Yellow-Blue Blue-Orange Blue-Green Green-Blue Brown-Blue Of course we can make other color combinations, but yup. So I'll use Brown-Blue as my example. The left side would be brown because the left eye would be brown and the right side blue because the right eye would be blue. This could be something from wanderers that you can unlock if you invite them to your tribe, like a rare cosmetic unlockable? Or it could be like albinism and melanism and not be in the mutation menu. But it'd be very hard to get in your genes and all other eye colors would trump heterochromia because its so rare. Yeah thats it, admins feel free to move this somewhere else if it should be! (Link to original idea) https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/638-2-different-eye-colors/

  3. An embedded link is a link that looks like this: vs a normal link that looks like this: To post a link normally, make you link and scroll to the bottom of the page to find this button: and then just click “Display as a link instead”.

  4. I get that too, and I already PM’d the devs about it. It happens to me when I try to post embedded link and if it’s the same for you, just make it a normal link instead.

  7. Heyo ^^ @Skysplash8 Savannah trees are currently the only ones that give shade. But I agree that we could add this to the other trees too In other biomes than the savanna, the mechanic will not be so relevant though. It's rare that animals are too hot in grass biomes.

  9. Alright, so here is my headcanon for what exactly the player is in the world of Niche. A research drone sent by future humans to study life on an exoplanet. This is the reason why the Niche animals have portmanteaus of Earth animal names as names - those are what the human astrobiologists were reminded of. The genetics of the animals are close, but not quite, like that on Earth - for example, phenotypical changes are in at least one species much faster and more drastic than in any multicellular lifeform here. Those peculiar genetics are the point of the research this probe is conducting. The hexfield landscape is how the drone's systems maps the area. When you "control" the nichelings, you are actually just recording and logging their activities - the drone is able to interface with the nicheling's brains, which comes with the downside of only sensing what they sense as well as an aerial view from a satellite or atmospheric vehicle. It also means that you can't actually see the difference between "what they do" and "what I do". So, what do you think? Plausible?

  10. Not much to say about this, I was able to fix it with just closing and reopening the game. Never seen this bug before.

  11. So I've been trying to make a suggestion for how heterochromia would work, because it was in the top 20 of the most voted of the second community voting. But I keep getting this. I got this when I tried to put it in feature requests, and here. So did I do something wrong and get my perms banned from making suggestions? Or what? I'm confused. Edit: Poke resolved it for me. Thanks Poke!

  12. So, uh, I'd like my achievements reset. (I'm not sure if I should post this as a topic or send a private message.) Since I started playing the game, I got the Globetrotter and Homecoming achievements, even though I didn't earn them. Since pretty much all of my achievements I already have won't be very hard to get again, I'd like them reset. One thing before you reset them: If I still have a save file past 250 days, will I get the achievement again once I pass the day on that save file, or do I have to play another 250 days after the achievement's reset? (Also, for anyone else who would want to get their achievements reset, feel free to comment here too) @Philo & @Micha, please!

  13. Update 8/1/18: Ended up doing a complete wipe of my computer due to a full system failure. I've wiped twice since the whole thing started, the second due to niche giving me an error during download saying something about "could not write to disc". I had steam and one steam game downloaded at that point, but had not updated my computer to win 10 from 8.1 yet. It is completely wiped atm, and I've not had a chance to try downloading the game again yet. I've been on vacation and just got back home.

  14. That’s an interesting take on the idea! I always thought of heterochromia being a separate gene with three alleles: normal eye color, dominant heterochromia, and recessive heterochromia. Normal eye color would be the most dominant but the other two would only be found through wanderers and aren’t in the mutation menu. Dominant heterochromia differs from recessive heterochromia by having the dominant eye color on the right rather on the left (just to have different variants). I also talked about it here as well: https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/2444-advanced-eye-color/#comment-8834

  17. I feel if you have the ability, only then can you get a boost from it. Like, a nimble fingered nicheling watchs other nimble fingered nichelings do it, then they get +1 cracking or collecting, depending on what the elders were doing.

  18. I'm not sure about Aspen trees, but as demonstrated by Ginnee and her father Fox (plus a couple more Nichelings)... ^^^ Fox and 2 other creatures are shaded by the Savannah tree. ^^^ Ginnee is NOT shaded, even though she is in the tile directly beside it (You can't see it very well in this photo, but you can see it in the pic above this one)! @Philo Why do other trees not give shade??

  20. Also, also we already have a small chance of doing that stuff with any Nicheling that doesn't have the skill. So technically once in a blue moon derpsnouts can crack nuts (as shown by the try button) so why not either up the chance of that happening with your idea, or just leave the original idea

  21. I've got to say, even though it's a bug, those nichelings look really cool.
