Hi pack! We discussed with the whole team and these are the results of the second community voting The following features will be implemented in the next update! More customization options for sandbox mode Unlock gene menu notifications Insectivorous nichelings New gene: Bat Head New gene: Savanna Horns Customizable and Programmable Gem Colors * Please note that this feature will be added in a way simpler way than suggested. Players will have the option to write down color codes in a special file in their game's folder. Additionally the new update will feature: New gene: Bat Wings (We already prepared these for the flight update) 2 new bears (These are Kickstarter rewards) Customizable animal names (Since we have customizable gem colors, this is a very low effort task. Players will have the option to write down names in a special file in their game's folder.) How where these features chosen? We evaluated the 20 highest rated features based on their effort in the sectors programming / art / game design. Higher voted features are priorised. The highest rated suggestion "More customization options for sandbox mode" is a big feature with a very high programming effort. So all other features chosen were required to have very low programming effort. We hope to release the next update in Q1 2019. Now, let's discuss what kind of stuff we want to be able to customize in the sand box mode Head over here to post your suggestions: https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/forum/70-customization-options-for-sandbox-mode/ Cheers, Your Stray Fawn Team8 points

here is another one off the things i want to see. the option have longer or shorter lifespans, (no idea how it would work) Edit: also @Philo if this gets chosen, how will it work? how can we have longer lifespans?4 points

There are many players who do challenges in Niche already. I think it would be great if you could design challenges and also include a win condition. That way, the game will make sure you can't cheat and tell you when you reached the goal you set.4 points

here is one of the things i want to see the most, have the option to have all genes unlocked. here you go fixed it.3 points
-
Maybe you could have a little nicheling library that contains the creatures that are transferred to you. And you'd be able to send them into any save file you want.3 points
-
again here is another one off the things i want to see, as philo said to separate them. a toggle buttons for all predator types (want to remove rogue males? Just switch them off), the one you suggested, philo.3 points

This is something I've wanted to do for a while. Let's say I want bearyenas to be more dangerous. Because all of the bearyena genes (Bearyena Snout + Bearyena Hind Legs + double Bearyena Claw + Big Body) equal 11 strength, maybe I could edit bearyenas to do 11 points of damage, which makes bearyenas kill a creature in one or two hits. Imagine that! Maybe I could give bearyenas 5 sight, 3 hearing and 3 smelling, just to add in the factor of scentlessness, stinky tail, stealth, and strong voice. Maybe make normal bearyenas have 1 defense, to make things harder. Let's say one of my nichelings has low cold resistance and gets separated from the tribe during a blizzard. My experience is that hypothermia is only a major problem if the frozen creature is ignored or gets separated from the tribe, or if the frozen creature is very old. What if I wanted to make the mountain biome harder than it already is? Hypothermia doesn't do much damage at the moment. Why don't I make it do 6 damage per turn, so hypothermia could kill a creature in one to three turns? Let's say that I've edited spawn rates and stats of predators to be super dangerous, and I happen to be in the savanna. Bearyenas do 11 damage, fire kills in one or two turns... The sandbox settings are already hard enough, and I think cacti is a nusiance, so I'll just edit it to only do one point of damage. That way, it's a safer food source.2 points

I think it would be cool if we could share Nichelings with each other Maybe we could even do stuff like Animal Crossing, where some genes are unique to some players and you need to trade ^^2 points

Wow, i'd love that feature. Maybe the creature that gets transferred would arrive on the ports?2 points
-
If I got this option, I'd just multiply everything by 10. (Creatures live 250 days, spend 10 days pregnant.)2 points
-
Well, I can’t answer the rest but “Q1 2019” means quarter one 2019 so like January to April.2 points
-
Maybe it could be like in the Sims? We could adjust it specifically so, for example, Nichelings would live as babies for 5 days, Teens for 2, and Adults for 30.2 points
-
Please no. I like the creativity, but I do not want this in niche. I don't want to lose my whole tribe to this, and I like Jojo's suggestion of putting it on a challenge mode, but that's the only place I would find it acceptable.2 points

Hi! I've just updated this to include a sex on the health bars mostly for role-playing purposes. The sex would only be helpful for breedable creatures like friendly bearyenas. There could be more sex exclusive stats like a mother bearyena feeding and protecting or a male rabbil following a female rabbil for her attention. I also wanted to note that wanderers and rouge males should have the same icons. Also also, there are actual internal stats for entities (at least bearyenas) according to this comment: https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/2435-bearyenas/&tab=comments#comment-9462 which is pretty cool and would be represented through the icons as well.2 points

Thanks for all your comments. Based on what I'm reading, perhaps a middle ground can be found in the following: You need to have the skill to get an actual +1 bonus If you don't have the skill, you don't get +1, but an increased chance of success at trying. It's not as good as getting a +1 but it may still be worth the trouble.2 points

Also, also we already have a small chance of doing that stuff with any Nicheling that doesn't have the skill. So technically once in a blue moon derpsnouts can crack nuts (as shown by the try button) so why not either up the chance of that happening with your idea, or just leave the original idea2 points

I'm so happy! My grandmother ordered a nicheling plushie from Jennifer Perez. The nicheling has arrived and I absolutely love her. Caramel is such a nice little nicheling, now I have something to hug while I make decisions in niche. I think I may try to recreate her in the game. May take a while, but i'll try.1 point

Sometimes I feel like it's more fun when there's not very much food, you know? When you have 1000 food and 40 Nichelings (like my tribe), you don't really feel like you're trying to survive, you're just trying to get cool creatures. What I propose is a adjustable bar that you can change any time that will adjust how much food each Nicheling takes from the food counter each time the day passes. So much food you don't know what to do with it? Make your creatures take 5 food a day. Want to just make the game a little tiny bit harder? Make your creatures take 2 food a day. Additionally, maybe you could adjust how much food a specific age of creature will take- you could have babies take 1, teens take 3, etc.1 point

What if when you edit your sandbox mode, you could choose to add your own nicheling NPCs? You could choose whether they'd be agressive or not, or possibly some other options of what they do? Such as maybe they only steal a certain type of food. Maybe in the jungle you could make them try to attract the apes? Possibly edit them so all they know how to do is kill. You could choose if they move the same as your nichelings or at night like bearyenas. You'd have to choose all of their genes and choose a name for them. Just, this seems like the closest you could get to making your own NPCs, just to add some more fun as you play.1 point

@Lilytuft Oh wow Was your suggestion new mane styles? It was a very close call! But indeed, the higher the effort, the higher the idea needs to be in the voting.1 point
-
It's easy to understand that adding a single gene takes way less effort than adding a whole gene slot with all it's genes. Next time there's a community voting, I'll need to think of something that will get even more attention... At least we get the gene unlock notifications back! We just had a huge update, and now I'm all hyped for this one! Also... @Philo, check your post count...1 point

Woooooo!!!! I am sooooo looking forward to this update, the wait is already to long and the hype is on So happy for the sandbox customization I sooooo hope that we'll get the opion for longer lifespans. And the savannah horns and lifespans!!!! And gem colours!!! Don't quite get how that'll work yet but sounds good! How many things will be added to sandbox customizations?1 point
-
how would that work? as i only played animal crossing once and that was long ago.1 point
-
we should be able to edit the stats of genes. like making the claw give 3 strength instead of 2 or something like that.1 point

I'm trying to do it, but I can't do an underscore, only a dash. Whatever I do on my keyboard, a underscore will not appear on that screen. However, I'm just fine when it's not on Niche. _______________________________________1 point

Whoo! I'm glad that we'll get the sandbox options, but I still hope the Breeder mode will be added one day By 'Customizable Animal names', does that mean: 1. you could rename all Bearyenas (example) 'Bob'; 2. Name a specific Rabbil (example) 'Arnold' but leave all other Rabbils named Rabbil; or 3. Make your Nichelings have names with colors and symbols and stuff? Also, what does 'Q1 2019' mean?1 point

@Pokestardragacraft Taking a closer look at your picture, I think it's good as is. I can't really come up with any better solutions, so yup! If I do, I'll post 'em right away. Adieu! dont question meee1 point

I understand how that the outlines can be too subtle, but I don’t think colored diamonds are the solution either. My problem with the diamonds is that they would take up too much space, especially with the gems and mini lifespan bars I added, for people that have more cramped family trees. The outlines work since they don’t take up too much space. I also tried to think of a less subtle solution but couldn’t come up with one (for now at least), but if you have another idea I’d love to hear it.1 point

I feel if you have the ability, only then can you get a boost from it. Like, a nimble fingered nicheling watchs other nimble fingered nichelings do it, then they get +1 cracking or collecting, depending on what the elders were doing.1 point

Wouldn't it be cool when a hungry bearyena kills one of your Nichelings it stays on the skeleton for a day to show that it 'eats' it?1 point
-
@ChasingNyx Well, each wild animal (Wild Nichelings, Ram Foxes, Bearyenas,...) have motivations. A motivation can be fear, hunger, longing for companionship etc. The computer calculates which motivation is how high and the animal then executes the fitting behaviour. Bearyenas don't attack poisonous animals, animals with spiky body or animals with distateful apprerance UNLESS they haven't eaten in a long time and therefore are very hungry. In this case, they ignore everything and just attack you anyways. But there is no way to tell in the if a Bearyena is super hungry or not which is a shame ^^1 point
-
Although it's an extreme example, animals tend to come up with unexpected solutions for these kind of issues. You can throw it up high in the air and let gravity do the trick (corvids do this). You can take two nuts and push them together (yes I think you'd be able to hold things with a derp snout as well) until the weaker nut breaks. You may not have much use for finger techniques, but seeing what it takes to break a nut is useful in any case. Of course, I get your point that there are some major differences between real life and niche, but I think that was abundantly clear in how the game works already.1 point

Yeah digging paw is quite comon and I don't really like it becuase it speads like the plague. Same with spiky body, if one of my starter creatures just has it in recesive my entire tribe ends up being filled with spiky creatures. It's quite anoying because it dosn't give speed and I hate slow creatures.1 point

That's a cute idea, but I don't think it fits what Niche is about. The Alpha/Beta/Omega system isn't there to denote rank, it's there to determine who eats first when there's not enough food for everyone. If you want to, you can play with this system you've suggested, by manually only having two Alphas, not changing their rank, and only picking a new one if the last one died, but I think implementing this suggestion would limit the gameplay rather than open up new possibilities, and why take away that freedom if you can just do what you've suggested by using self-imposed limitations? And I don't want to be rude, but a scepter/crown/cape for a Nicheling would be very immersion-breaking. These are animals, they don't have clothing or jewelry the way humans do. As far as I know, there aren't even any humans in the world of Niche, so where would our creatures get the metal and fabric from? Is your justification for this idea "just because it looks cool"? Sadly, that's not enough. Things do have to make sense. And if you want, you could breed a line of Alphas with specific traits, such as Mask in colours and shapes that make the Nicheling look like they're wearing a cape, or ramhorns of a specific colour you can treat as a crown. Again; there's no need to change the game, you can use what's already there in the way you want for your tribe. Or just use the different gem colours to mark a Nicheling's rank, that's one of the things they're there for, after all.1 point
