  1. Hi pack! We discussed with the whole team and these are the results of the second community voting The following features will be implemented in the next update! More customization options for sandbox mode Unlock gene menu notifications Insectivorous nichelings New gene: Bat Head New gene: Savanna Horns Customizable and Programmable Gem Colors * Please note that this feature will be added in a way simpler way than suggested. Players will have the option to write down color codes in a special file in their game's folder. Additionally the new update will feature: New gene: Bat Wings (We already prepared these for the flight update) 2 new bears (These are Kickstarter rewards) Customizable animal names (Since we have customizable gem colors, this is a very low effort task. Players will have the option to write down names in a special file in their game's folder.) How where these features chosen? We evaluated the 20 highest rated features based on their effort in the sectors programming / art / game design. Higher voted features are priorised. The highest rated suggestion "More customization options for sandbox mode" is a big feature with a very high programming effort. So all other features chosen were required to have very low programming effort. We hope to release the next update in Q1 2019. Now, let's discuss what kind of stuff we want to be able to customize in the sand box mode Head over here to post your suggestions: https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/forum/70-customization-options-for-sandbox-mode/ Cheers, Your Stray Fawn Team

  2. here is another one off the things i want to see. the option have longer or shorter lifespans, (no idea how it would work) Edit: also @Philo if this gets chosen, how will it work? how can we have longer lifespans?

  3. There are many players who do challenges in Niche already. I think it would be great if you could design challenges and also include a win condition. That way, the game will make sure you can't cheat and tell you when you reached the goal you set.

  4. here is one of the things i want to see the most, have the option to have all genes unlocked. here you go fixed it.

  5. Maybe you could have a little nicheling library that contains the creatures that are transferred to you. And you'd be able to send them into any save file you want.

  6. again here is another one off the things i want to see, as philo said to separate them. a toggle buttons for all predator types (want to remove rogue males? Just switch them off), the one you suggested, philo.

  7. This is something I've wanted to do for a while. Let's say I want bearyenas to be more dangerous. Because all of the bearyena genes (Bearyena Snout + Bearyena Hind Legs + double Bearyena Claw + Big Body) equal 11 strength, maybe I could edit bearyenas to do 11 points of damage, which makes bearyenas kill a creature in one or two hits. Imagine that! Maybe I could give bearyenas 5 sight, 3 hearing and 3 smelling, just to add in the factor of scentlessness, stinky tail, stealth, and strong voice. Maybe make normal bearyenas have 1 defense, to make things harder. Let's say one of my nichelings has low cold resistance and gets separated from the tribe during a blizzard. My experience is that hypothermia is only a major problem if the frozen creature is ignored or gets separated from the tribe, or if the frozen creature is very old. What if I wanted to make the mountain biome harder than it already is? Hypothermia doesn't do much damage at the moment. Why don't I make it do 6 damage per turn, so hypothermia could kill a creature in one to three turns? Let's say that I've edited spawn rates and stats of predators to be super dangerous, and I happen to be in the savanna. Bearyenas do 11 damage, fire kills in one or two turns... The sandbox settings are already hard enough, and I think cacti is a nusiance, so I'll just edit it to only do one point of damage. That way, it's a safer food source.

  8. I think it would be cool if we could share Nichelings with each other Maybe we could even do stuff like Animal Crossing, where some genes are unique to some players and you need to trade ^^

  9. Here you can share the fanart you draw One I drew today...because the meat eating plants aren't already terrifying enough ^^

  10. Wow, i'd love that feature. Maybe the creature that gets transferred would arrive on the ports?

  11. If I got this option, I'd just multiply everything by 10. (Creatures live 250 days, spend 10 days pregnant.)

  12. Well, I can’t answer the rest but “Q1 2019” means quarter one 2019 so like January to April.
    2 points
  13. Maybe it could be like in the Sims? We could adjust it specifically so, for example, Nichelings would live as babies for 5 days, Teens for 2, and Adults for 30.

  14. Please no. I like the creativity, but I do not want this in niche. I don't want to lose my whole tribe to this, and I like Jojo's suggestion of putting it on a challenge mode, but that's the only place I would find it acceptable.

  16. Hi! I've just updated this to include a sex on the health bars mostly for role-playing purposes. The sex would only be helpful for breedable creatures like friendly bearyenas. There could be more sex exclusive stats like a mother bearyena feeding and protecting or a male rabbil following a female rabbil for her attention. I also wanted to note that wanderers and rouge males should have the same icons. Also also, there are actual internal stats for entities (at least bearyenas) according to this comment: https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/2435-bearyenas/&tab=comments#comment-9462 which is pretty cool and would be represented through the icons as well.

  17. Thanks for all your comments. Based on what I'm reading, perhaps a middle ground can be found in the following: You need to have the skill to get an actual +1 bonus If you don't have the skill, you don't get +1, but an increased chance of success at trying. It's not as good as getting a +1 but it may still be worth the trouble.

  18. A weird purple peacock tail male

  19. Also, also we already have a small chance of doing that stuff with any Nicheling that doesn't have the skill. So technically once in a blue moon derpsnouts can crack nuts (as shown by the try button) so why not either up the chance of that happening with your idea, or just leave the original idea

  20. starting off with a bigger tribe, 10 extra food for each nicheling

  21. Not much to say about this, I was able to fix it with just closing and reopening the game. Never seen this bug before.

  22. I would like to be able to have two separate packs in one game. When I'm doing a game with two oping packs, it can be hard two control because I need lots of food to support two packs that should really be able to exist on their own without depending on one to be able to feed themselves. So, with a flip of a button, you could switch from pack to pack.

  23. I do have a save file with all of them unlocked, I don't have a picture of it though. I will be able to send a picture later tonight, but i'm betting someone else will be able to do it before then.

  24. @Skysplash8 1 & 2) No, for now only for wild animals. @Jojo Don't know yet ^^ And yeah Q1 2019 is a pretty long wait. We have a release this September/October (Nimbatus Early Access Launch). Let's hope it goes well and our studio can keep existing

  25. @Lilytuft Oh wow Was your suggestion new mane styles? It was a very close call! But indeed, the higher the effort, the higher the idea needs to be in the voting.
    1 point
  26. It's easy to understand that adding a single gene takes way less effort than adding a whole gene slot with all it's genes. Next time there's a community voting, I'll need to think of something that will get even more attention... At least we get the gene unlock notifications back! We just had a huge update, and now I'm all hyped for this one! Also... @Philo, check your post count...

  27. Will this include spawing rates or should this be a seperate post?
    1 point
  28. how would that work? as i only played animal crossing once and that was long ago.

  29. we should be able to edit the stats of genes. like making the claw give 3 strength instead of 2 or something like that.
    1 point
  30. and it would be cool if we could change the lifespan of the other creatures too so if we wanted to we could just double everything's lifespan for more drawn out game play or the reverse too.

  31. i was thinking the same thing

  32. Whoo! I'm glad that we'll get the sandbox options, but I still hope the Breeder mode will be added one day By 'Customizable Animal names', does that mean: 1. you could rename all Bearyenas (example) 'Bob'; 2. Name a specific Rabbil (example) 'Arnold' but leave all other Rabbils named Rabbil; or 3. Make your Nichelings have names with colors and symbols and stuff? Also, what does 'Q1 2019' mean?

  35. I understand how that the outlines can be too subtle, but I don’t think colored diamonds are the solution either. My problem with the diamonds is that they would take up too much space, especially with the gems and mini lifespan bars I added, for people that have more cramped family trees. The outlines work since they don’t take up too much space. I also tried to think of a less subtle solution but couldn’t come up with one (for now at least), but if you have another idea I’d love to hear it.

  37. I'm really curious about how other people start on certain islands, so please share your strageties. I'm going to explain how I start on the Deep Jungle island, since i'm proud of how I managed to survive for over 100 days on it after starting on that very island. First, I zoom out to study the island. I look to see if there's areas without too many trees and with a few food sources. I've noticed that the trees where that have the branches for winged creatures to fly into don't seem to spawn any apes. After I find a place that looks somewhat safe, i'll send my creatures over there immediately. After that I fix up their mutation menus, if they have inactive bad eyesight, I try to fix that. I normally would fill the slots with black fur and spots. If one slot is taken up by normal eyesight, I check to see if black fur or spots would be more useful. Like if they have two no pattern genes, i'll definitely give the dots. Then i'll just have them gather up as much food as I can before they have their babies, in order to make sure they don't starve. That results with them starting to have children very late in their life. I'll breed the starter pair until they have two children who can have healthy babies with each other, or until a wanderer who can breed with one of the babies arrive. Once everything is going well in camp, i'll begin to send a few of each generation out to explore the jungle and find out where the apes are. But the rule is, if you find an ape, you can't come back to camp. Thanks for reading this, it was just really fun to type all of this out.

  38. Wouldn't it be cool when a hungry bearyena kills one of your Nichelings it stays on the skeleton for a day to show that it 'eats' it?
    1 point
  39. @ChasingNyx Well, each wild animal (Wild Nichelings, Ram Foxes, Bearyenas,...) have motivations. A motivation can be fear, hunger, longing for companionship etc. The computer calculates which motivation is how high and the animal then executes the fitting behaviour. Bearyenas don't attack poisonous animals, animals with spiky body or animals with distateful apprerance UNLESS they haven't eaten in a long time and therefore are very hungry. In this case, they ignore everything and just attack you anyways. But there is no way to tell in the if a Bearyena is super hungry or not which is a shame ^^

  40. Although it's an extreme example, animals tend to come up with unexpected solutions for these kind of issues. You can throw it up high in the air and let gravity do the trick (corvids do this). You can take two nuts and push them together (yes I think you'd be able to hold things with a derp snout as well) until the weaker nut breaks. You may not have much use for finger techniques, but seeing what it takes to break a nut is useful in any case. Of course, I get your point that there are some major differences between real life and niche, but I think that was abundantly clear in how the game works already.

  41. This is perfect for roleplaying! Love it

  42. Bearyenas leave your animals with Distasteful Appearance alone UNLESS they are super hungry. They have internal stats for hunger and other motivations like fear, etc. I really need to make a feature request to add a new feature that makes these states visible when playing.

  43. And here we have Shadow Niche River Niche Thunder Niche And Wind Niche These Niches all lives together Until the Fire Niche attacked Then the master of all four elements... I'm sorry. All the references Edit: Thank you guys for the hahas and giving me a heart attack with the notifacation bell. It scared the crap out of me >.<

  44. We have albino nichelings, but doesn't almost any animal in real life have a small chage of being albino? It would be amazing to find an albino bearyena! So my idea is to add a small chance for almost any animal in niche to be albino, not just for the nicheling. This chance would of course be really small. If an animal is an albino, it should have it's eyesight decreased. Albinism would also make some nice achievements! Something like hunthing an albino rabbil or killing an albino bearyena or even encountering an albino ape or balancebear would be great achievements! + I think that albinism should decrease nicheling's eyesight too!

  45. Pattern shape E: I've always wanted nichelings with white tummies. I also miss the warning dots. More stripes wouldn't hurt either. So let's have a new pattern shape! Pattern shape E would be rare and hard to get. It wouldn't be auto unlocked like the other pattern shapes. To unlock it, you would have to invite a nicheling with the gene. Tortoise shell pattern gene: This idea came from a bug post from @GryffBirb Also @Jojo inspired this post. There would be a new gene called "colour dominance" or just simply the "tortoiseshell gene". This gene has three variations. Co-dominance or "no tortoiseshell", "spotted tortoiseshell" and "brindled tortoiseshell". Only females display it tought. Males can only have it as an inactive gene. There is a really tiny change of a male tortie, but if one is born, it will most likely be infertile. Normal male who carries spotted tortoiseshell gene: On females the gene acts differently. The female only displays the upper one of her colour genes. The other colour appears on her as spots, brindles and splats. These spots wont appear on her patters. Spotted: Brindled: The mutation for tortoiseshell can be unlocked by succesfully mutating each fur and pattern colour once. For spotted you have to also mutate spots and for brindled you need to mutate stripes.

  47. So after people saying they wouldn't like that they couldn't control the sick creature. What if this disease was a part of the challenge mode (I am refering to this post: ) or an option when you go sandbox (either on harder islands or just always) and just not present in story mode? That way people could have the option if they wanted the extra challenge but players who don't want it wouldn't need to play with it?

  48. I was starting on whale island for the second time, and decided I needed new genes and immunities in my tribe. I sent my female over to a stump and had her call for a mate. Literally the second she called a fully winged nicheling flew over from who knows where and started eating my berries. I nearly flipped my laptop over in excitement (btw the nicheling in the bottom left corner has a weirder name because I'm naming my nichelings after Egyptian gods)

  49. It's not that comon for me but I think it's a good starting gene.
