  1. I once found this male wanderer and invited him into the tribe, and right behind him there was a female wanderer with immunity genes different to his. It was so adorable, even before I invited her in she kept following him around. I ended up breeding them because what else was I going to do?

  2. You could set yourself a tribe size limit, that you could change during game (if you watch Niche: Whims of fate, you know why this is needed). When your tribe is full, you can't invite wanderers. You can have your nichelings mate, but no babies will be born before there's room in the tribe. If you have multiple females on nest, but not enough room in the tribe for all of the babies, the females with he highest rank will give birth first. If you have too many females of the highest rank, the oldest ones give birth first. You can't set the tribe limit smaller than your tribe is. You'll need to get rid of your extra creatures before making the limit smaller.

  3. Rogue Males have 2 important motivations: Lust and Fear. Here is what it looks like in the game This basically says that rogue males are scared by fire and big groups of animals. Also, they indeed don't like spikyness. Another defense is growling at them or attacking them, which increases their fear. The reason that old rogue males are more interested in females could be that they really stocked up a lot of lust motivation

  4. I used the console to start with fully crippled creatures, derpsnout, no paw, one blindness gene, frog legs, white fur and the lean body for 0 attack. Barely fertile. Any genes to mutate were determined by the random generator at birth. As soon as two kits are compatible, the parents stop breeding. No mixing with wanderes allowed, but one does start with 100 food. I tried this two times. You'll never know what you end up with!

  5. I've tried a few challenges before, but my favourite has been starting in a difficult biome and trying to survive and thrive without using the console. So far I've established flourishing and successful tribes through this challenge on the Sleepy Reeds, First Snow, Summer Mountains and Rainforest islands. I also once, in an earlier version of the game, had a tribe head immediately to the Oasis biome without having any water genes, and somehow they survived and adapted. Sadly I lost that save, but they ended up having around fifteen creatures, most with water body, and a lot of claws, platypus beaks and fishing tails. I think it's pretty safe to say they would've survived just fine. EDIT: I did also start a tribe in the Burning Savannah and survived, but that tribe was still in a bit of a precarious position when I lost the file because the game updated. At one point, a small patch of grass was dubbed Bearyena town, because within ten days or so, four or five bearyenas spawned there, and three of them had babies with them. I didn't have enough food to waste on inviting them, so I just let them stand there and grow up to hunt them down for more food once they were grown and aggressive. It was so funny to see a Bearyena family meet-up consisting of one hostile one that had shown up during the night and three friendly ones of varying ages, looking at eachother in the Hearing vision.

  6. I found this little guy in a palm tree while on the Archipelago. I'm not sure if it's a bug or just luck, but either way, I'm amused.

  7. Hello! My username is Kirobane (or just Kiro for short) and I've lived in the UK my entire life. I'm currently a student entering my second year of A-levels. I like drawing and animating as a hobby and have a dog who is a cross between an English bull terrier and a Staffy. I love playing video games on various different platforms from Playstation to Nintendo Switch. Nice to meet you all ^^

  8. Well that's what I call a challenge!

  9. This is such an intriguing concept! I love the idea of sharing Nichelings with other players - though part of me hopes there would be a workaround for people who wouldn't or couldn't trade, should it include new and special genes. Since this isn't an online game, I'm sure it would be very frustrating to suddenly feel forced to track down genes beyond your own game. I'm very interested, though! I'd love to see where this goes.

  10. I signed up to these forums just so I could respond to these types of topics! I was getting back into a new game of Niche today.. and I realized that I really love the idea of there being a reason (beyond my own self torture) of breeding a tribe of blind Nichlings! Or at least a reason to keep at least one blind Nichling around.. perhaps they can sense things from a greater distance but they are still very weak. They would help the tribe spot danger sooner, maybe find natural nests, or food easier. Even if the blind are kept at the same movement disadvantage, just an improved sense would be really neat I think! ^-^

  11. This goes hand in hand with a setting to change the lifespan of your Nichelings. If a Nicheling lives for, say, 40 days or longer, being able to give birth on the day after breeding feels a little overpowered. Why not add in the option to change the pregnancy duration, so a female can only give birth two days after breeding, or make the waiting time even longer, depending on your preference and wish for realism?

  12. Unsure if this has been mentioned yet, but I would like to put in my ideas of what could possibly be added to the underwater world. The Underwater World is super barren right now, only being able to find seaweed, clams, rocks, fish, worms, and leeches. I have a few ideas of things that could be added to make this world much more lively. ISLANDS Basically, there'd be islands with a ton more water and lots more places to swim compared to your average big island. The island would be small, maybe the size of tiny green, while the rest of the island would be places that can be swam through by Nichelings. Take the grass mingle island for example, cut that to the size of tiny green but leave all that extra island space to the water. Picture example: PREDATORS I know that the Razorina is already somewhat of a predator, but they only attack you if you are bleeding. How about, for somewhat of a challenge, have a predator like the Bearyna that will attack you for no other purpose than food. It would have similar behavior like the Bearyna but obviously be different. This creature's name would be the Sharkidile, a cross between a shark and a crocodile. You could also find a mother with a baby and tame the baby for its genes, just like the Bearyna! Here's a picture of what I think it would look like, sorry it's kinda sloppy I rushed it: Genes you could get from a friendly Sharkidile: - Sharkidile Snout (2+ fishing, 1+ defense, 1+ smelling) - Water body (2+ swimming, 1+ scentless, underwater breathing) - Fin tail (2+ swimming, -1 Cold resistance) - Sharkidile Claw (2+ fishing, 1+ attack, 1+ swimming) - Sharkidile Eyes (2+ underwater sight, 1+ dry land sight) - Yellow Eyes - New Pattern (Overcoat color and undercoat color, affects camouflage in water, +2 camouflage) FOOD Definitely a lot more food needs to be added. More types of fish and things similar to the berry bushes on land. Examples in pics below: I'm still currently in the process of thinking of things that could be added to the underwater world of Niche. If I do get more ideas, then be sure to look for for a part 2 to this idea! Please feel free to suggest anything.

  13. It makes no sense. I once thought there is one... But I have had a few females hit rogue males. (for science, totally) Sometimes they run away, sometimes they mate, independent of age, strenght and energy of the female. They will always go for females with no energy, but whether a female with full energy scares him away or not is random. The only defense is the spiky body. It does seem that old rogue males are way more likely to mate instead of running away. Some will stick to a single male... can they be gay? Are they buggy? Alhough, I did once have an exorbitantly pretty scout, so pretty I thought him female at birth, and so did the rogues... Anyway, does anybody know the method behind this madness? @Philo?

  14. @Draconiya I'd suggest making a separate suggestion ^^ So we can keep an overview how many people want what

  15. ask philo if it belongs here, i don't know

  16. I think pregnancy duration is also something that should be changeable. Since it fits in well with this suggestion, I thought posting it here was a good idea. If it belongs in a topic of it's own, let me know!

  17. Basically what the title says. I've always wanted to toggle things like the apes on and off, or remove carnivorous plants entirely. Do you want some more bunnils to spawn in your save file, but remove bluebirds so they can't steal the meat you get from them? Want packs of hostile Ramfoxes to roam the mountains, so your tribe has to compete with them for everything from food to space, but get rid of Balance Bears because they are a nuisance? This setting makes it possible.

  18. Just today I had the most adorable thing happen so first Kutaro showed up as a wanderer and hooked up with one of the leaders and together they founded the pink gem clan. They had a few children as you can see and this picture was taken when he was already dead for almost two generations (so glad I managed to take a picture of him) because at that time Tanunu shows up almost a perfect clone of Kutaro and that was just so sweet.

  19. Well my first instinct was to say Oasis and the story was similar to Skysplash's but that would be boring so I rummaged through my brain and rembered the time when I started at the burning savannah to see if I could survive long enough for big ears and lean body (50 days), at the time that I tried it the burning savannah was still pretty new and the whole community was in dispair because it was said that you couldn't survive there longer than a few days (when starting there). So I started there and was lucky to find like four berry bushes in close proximity to each other. That was my main camp and then it became really fun. Wanderers all over the place, bearyenas all over the place, trying not to die of fire, starvation or bearyenas. That were good times though after a few generations (which went by fast considering it was an honor to be sacrificed to the cacti) it calmed down a little. We had enough claws to hunt bearyenas and somehow managed to gather enough food, so I guess until the fires burned everything to the ground I probably could have survived indefinitely. And I love the blind genes challenge, sometimes even paired with the no mutation menu challenge

  20. Probably one had double claw and the other had one claw
    1 point
  21. I think with three claws he means one starter had two and the other one claw so that makes three claws and enough to easily take down a bearyena

  22. "Target Persistence 100" yeah I think we've all noticed that at some point XD

  23. Well, I don't know if this counts as a challenge, but I did start a tribe in the Oasis. Luckily my starter male had Claw, but with the children he had, he never passed it on. He died quicker than he should have because, well, it's hard to tell what water your creatures will drown in and in what water they won't. After the starting female died, I started to lose hope. Then a Bearyena appeared. My poor creatures could do barely anything and would soon starve. Then, suddenly, a big-eared, double clawed, ram horned female appears. She's immediately invited into the tribe and takes the Bearyena out in THREE BLOWS. I proceeded to call her 'the savior of this tribe' and immediately thought of my favorite TV show, Once Upon a Time. (SPOILERS AHEAD if you watch OUAT but haven't finished it) I named her Emmai, her mate Killian, her kid with Killian Hope (because she was the hope of this tribe + another reason), her other mate whom she briefly had one child with Neal, and her kid with Neal Henry.

  24. Ah I see. I think it's because you can choose a "best answer". I think we need to switch this of for anyone but admins, thanks ^^

  25. I love it when that happens On my most recent tribe that started out on the Oasis (tho now they're on an easy island to stock up on food), I found a female with one wing! I immediately invited her into my tribe, and as I started to move her to the otheer side of the river to a male with non-matching immunity genes, a wandering male appeared.. with non-matching immunity genes! I proceeded to invite him into the tribe and those two had many children before she passed away of old age

  30. oh and also you wouldn't be able to let them take damage and not heal it or they would never even become an adult at all. combining that with teens having less moves predators would be more dangerous and harder to kill.
    1 point
  31. yeah then you could get like 4 or 5 babies from a breeding pair instead of 1 or 2 and have a reasonable chance of getting another pair.
    1 point
  32. Yep. And when I would get a breeding pair, I'd have to move them together before them becoming adults. Maybe I would change that to 5 days as an adult...
    1 point
  33. that would be an interesting game. but it would be absurdly hard to try to get a breeding pair from adam and eve and whenever you only had 4 or 5 immunity genes. wanderers would be huge in that challenge. but if you can survive with this challenge than that is a very good show of skill

  34. I think a second chance to maybe find a member of Adams family would be awesome! Also you could tell so many great stories with that. Like that his family are still looking for him or that he has become a legend and in spirit of him they try to find his remains. I'd love this a lot!

  35. It's not a bug. You're not supposed to get to harder islands from whale island in story mode

  36. That might not be a bug but the game locking all the islands that you didn't discover previously.

  38. @bostonlobstah The new bears were designed by Kickstarter backers ^^ We'll post some work in progress screenshots of them soon. @Snowy Owl I think we'll keep this discussion going for quite a while I hope that we can contiously add new things to the sandbox customization, not just this once.

  40. Bearyenas leave your animals with Distasteful Appearance alone UNLESS they are super hungry. They have internal stats for hunger and other motivations like fear, etc. I really need to make a feature request to add a new feature that makes these states visible when playing.

  42. I really like this idea, and I feel like it is well balanced since being blind is a harmful gene, so using up an action to touch or hear before they can do anything makes sense.

  43. cool, I like this because blind creatures are FRIGGIN USELESS as of now

  45. but Niche is about genetics and not about any mythological and open for debate things like afterlife a lot of people rp it like the ancestors are guiding the tribe and some ascend to godhood -I do too- but I think these things should only come from the player side and not from any game mechanics. in wildlife, dead is dead. and game mechanics wise it would feel a bit cheaty if one of your females got attacked by a rouge but don't worry, you can just let the baby be your deceased favourite instead however, I would like if you could 'save' a handful of your favourites and have them have a rare chance to spawn/reincarnate as wanderers. custom name included

  49. Once, in an old tribe that has long since been deleted, I killed a female wanderer so she wouldn't take my food. The next day, a Melanistic baby/teen shows up on the bones. I made that child an ORPHAN. My creatures had pity on her and invited her into the tribe. I felt so bad...
