  1. I’ll start: Volcanic Paradise. The bottom of this hill is a very flat shore, with shallow water. A little higher up is an area with berry bushes and stinky fruit, and lots of natural nests to make up for the lack of tall grass. (Whale island but with no poison berries or aspen trees.) This is what half of the mountain looks like. The other half is mountainous and very steep, with twiggy bushes and no edible plants. Overall, the island is considered a hot climate, and heat resistance is required. It does rain a lot, though. To make the island more difficult, it’s considered “killer”, and there are killer bearyenas.

  2. Hi guys, I started my very first Niche adventure just today. It was an awesome experience! Thanks to @Jojo (and @Philo too!) for giving me the chance to enjoy this game I was overjoyed to see when I loaded in on tiny green that my starter female had brown eyes, swimming tail, white antlers and purr snout! (Yes, I started in Sandbox. Is that a sin?) she also however had double digging claws. She was a dark red color so I named her ruby The male, tadukku, was pink with blue eyes and cracker jaw, one velvet paw and one claw. I would have renamed him but I kind of forgot to lol. I used to not like cracker jaw as much but it’s growing on me. Just look at Tadukku’s big goofy smile! here they are! So cute! I was pretty lucky because on day six, a bearyena and her cub spawned. I easily killed the bearyena and Ruby was able to heal all the damage her mate took. We have several bearyena hybrids in our tribe now here is one of my favorite Nichelings so far, Grey, daughter of the starters. I love her grey fur and horns and striking blue eyes. She is so pretty ❤️ Her siblings are named Rei, Garnet, Silk, and Dust. Here is my favorite boy so far. I named him Thunder after taking the screenshot. My first antennae and also first purr snout besides Ruby! He also has those gorgeous eyes again, as well as a bearyena claw and regular claw. And then...my first twins! And they were copy paste! I named them Cloud and Sky They also have pretty blue eyes, bearyena claw and nimble fingers ❤️ If anyone has any wisdom or tips they would like to share with me, I would really appreciate it! Thank you ❤️

  4. Cool! I would create a place I would call berry island. Similar to mountain archipelago. A main island similar to whale island or peaceful meadow, except more trees like a forest, like oak aspen and pine trees, and not as much grass. There would be a small sandy beach without palm trees but all the other sides of the island have craggy drop offs into pretty deep water. A couple of small islands would be scattered out in the deep water. They would be made of steep mountain blocks as they are basically boulders coming out of the water. There would be lots of berries and poison berries on them with the occasional pine or oak tree. The biome has bearyenas and rarely balance bears on the main island, and bluebirds flying all over. Lots of rabbils and some stag moles. The small islands are only big enough to sustain a few nichelings, are near impossible to get to without underwater breathing, and leeches swim all over the place. There is also a good amount of fish.

  5. do you realize how hard it is to eat food in adam's island boi do you realize how quickly every tribe that exists would starve if every island had an opposing tribe eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  7. Would love to be able to share them too like you could make a crazy hard mode island and share it challenging others to see how long they could survive hahaha

  9. Just a random suggestion. I mean we have black and white, though white is blind eyes but you get my point. Sooo, why not have grey eyes? Smexy grey eyes- And why not orange golden eyes? Because why not?

  10. So we have a variety of bodies and some which are of different sizes but there are none that are explicity small. So introducing the Small Body type, It would have the following stats: +1 Speed +1 Flying (only if it has wings) +3 Stealth +2 Scentless +3 Heat Resistance -1 Cold Resistance +1 Camoflague This body could be useful in making some sneaky small critters that avoid conflict. The additional heat resistance for being small would be useful in very hot maps like Deserts. Because the small body would be light it gives a boost to flying if it has wings. Since however they have smaller limbs they do not gain any additional speed over the medium body. Lastly being able to make a cute small Nicheling seems rather fun to do. Edit: Old stats were not distinct enough and the other bonuses were not favoured much so I lowered Scentless and added Camoflague because it being small would make it harder to see. Let me know what you think. Old stats for reference: It would have the following stats: +1 Speed +1 Flying (only if it has wings) +3 Stealth +3 Scentless +3 Heat Resistance -1 Cold Resistance Other bonuses: +1 Gathering +1/2 Fertility These bonuses would be in place of the higher Scentless or Heat Resistance making this body type more unique. A smaller body might be more nimble in trying to gather from bushes. Smaller animals generally have larger litters of babies thus an increase to fertility.

  11. I think it would be awesome to have the option to toggle the genes on and off so that we can play a "blind genes mode" in which we can't look at the genes our nichelings are carrying, to make the game more interesting and challenging. That way we could look at the family tree and change nichelings' names without having to look at the genes. It could also be activated or deactivated during the game, that way, for example, you could set yourself a goal and once you reach it you can toggle on the genes and look at them. What do you think?

  12. Longer limbs is a larger stride. Yes smaller bodies have less mass to move but if their limbs can only cover half the distance per stride they'd have to make two strides in the same time as the larger body. This can become really inefficient. That's why they only get +1 Speed. This is the difference between let's say a Beagle or a Chihuahua (small bodies if a bit smaller than my intended size) and a Greyhound (lean body and fastest dog breed) and a German Shepherd (medium body). I can also use wild cats for an example lynx and caracal (small body), cheetah (lean body and fastest land animal) and cougars and leopards (medium body) Most small animals have far larger litter sizes than bigger animals. There are a few reasons for this but one could be said that smaller animals need larger packs to make up for the fact that they get preyed on. The other is the fact that a smaller body is quicker to develop and requires fewer resources to do so. Only the smallest animals can have hundreds of young at a time. Spiders and Small Fish And as you get to the larger end having more than one baby is uncommon to very rare. Elephants, Rhinos, Bears. Small animals do not eat a "lot" more. They do in fact eat less. However they do not eat proportionally less because they have a higher metabolic rate to keep up their internal temperatures. However this game doesn't take into account size and metabolic rate and such for how much each creature eats. And with regards to Gathering the same could be said of the Bird Beak how does it offer any advantage in gathering over any other kind of mouth? Anywho. I kept those as alternatives as they could make for more interesting and specialized creatures. At the very least I'd like to see a small body body added because why not? We have both Antlers and Ram horns that are no different in terms of gameplay. We have both medium ears and round ears that both offer +3 hearing and no differences. Then of course there are the myriad of coat options and patterns. (Which some do have effects but by large don't)

  13. That’s a great idea, I added it! edit: if a volcano with lava was actually added, that would balance it out.

  14. i would probably make something stupid like 1 space islands in a hexagonish grid shape separated by shallow water. or an island filled with nothing but bunny hills (and maybe a nest if you cant make them on the hills idk if you can). or maybe archipelago but 10 times as big. and other stuff like that XD.

  15. I assume this would be balanced by Killer bearyenas? Too much paradise is no fun...

  16. Yea, we’ve actually had an achievement discussion about this here: https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/644-creature-creatorbreeder-mode/ and I like the points that @FinallyFalling makes.

  17. @Frozenpelt Warrior maybe instead of ALL achivements, it would only be ones tied to genes. For example, you'd still be able to get ones like Copy and Paste, but not the Ruler of the Savannah one, because that one depends on the genes, where as Copy and Paste only depends on if you have high fertility (starters always have this) and luck.

  18. @bostonlobstah If you are just playing the game, just make sure the in-game settings for the music/audio are up. Then you'll be able to hear the in-game music as you play, plus all the noises that are made when certain actions are done. I didn't buy the soundtrack, and I hear stuff fine. It's not the track, it's just that when you start Story Mode there's a cutscene that has some noises you'd want to hear, so make sure you don't have your volume all the way down.

  19. lean body used to be called small body and covers all the main points already, I don't see the point for an other body type that does the same a difference would be it has more speed, but the "smaller limbs" don't slow any animals down. have you ever seen a mouse run? they are fast! smaller limbs= quicker leg movement, so it is just lean body to the point's that are not covered by lean body : how would being small help to gather more food? a lot of small animals coincidently gather more (compared to their body weight) but they also have to eat a lot more so in the end no difference and the quick gathering is not really linked to the size how would being small hep the fertility? you are probably thinking of bunnys and the like for this, but their fertility has nothing to do with size. rather think about dogs, do chiwawas have a higher fertility than ridgebacks? I am actually not sure but I don't think so to the flying: yeah of course lean body should give +1flying to winged ones, it would only be fair since big body gives -1

  20. Thanks. I was unlucky with my first starter because she had double digging claws and I didn’t think it would be that much of a problem. I was gifted a steam key but the soundtrack was not included. Maybe I can look up the track on YouTube. I think I know what to do now. I was only able to play yesterday since I was at our house where the good computer is. Now I am at the summer house with the old computer that won’t support niche. By the start of the school year, I should be on niche again. Thanks all!

  22. Tip: Try out Story Mode. At least go through the tutorial. You might already know how to play, but it might teach you something about movement controls you didn't know existed. Also, the cutscene at the beginning is awesome. Make sure you have your music on! (If you don't, you can find it on YouTube) Plus, just trying to get Adam's family Home is fun (It also gives you a nice goal to keep, if you like goals) Another tip: Extinguish bad eyesight and Digging paw. Digging paw may sometimes be useful, but I've had problems where I'll end up with Double Diggers (2 digging paw) and they can't do anything except dig.. which isn't that useful, honestly. Before yu even have your first baby, make sure the starters don't have bad eyesight, and put regular eyes in the mutation if they do.

  24. Thank you so much @RandomWanderer I have around 20-30 food each day but I think the priority now is getting big nose and runner legs on. Thanks to Ruby and Tadukku, the only things 90% of my tribe can do are crack nuts and dig up roots lol. Once we have a bit more food we will go to the next port. I think it will be a peaceful meadow or grass mingle. Most of my creatures have A B C D or G. A wanderer I found also has I. I think we will keep it there. I have a question though, I still don’t know how to predict the weather. Is there something I have to mouse over? I have an antennae but don’t know how to use it lol

  25. You have 15 food and quite a few creatures that can't pick berries... Eyesight might be nice on the starters, but on a case such as ruby's, running legs might be better for mutation. Your island is too small for so many creatures. I like to determine "the size" by berry bushes:nichelings. Generally, don't start on the smaller green islands. Moving costs food and they are all on the same difficulty level. More Bearyenas make good food with a few claws. Unlocking bearyena genes is 250% faster when you bred a half bearyena nicheling with the father. Giving the female horns is quite futile, so I tend to give her the running leg, aswell. Her children (who are often sick) can at least pick berries and move two tiles at at a time. Breeding those 3/4 bearyena nichelings is questionable. You don't want them to pass on their low fertility, no horns, hindlegs and possible hemophilia. Giving normal nichelings their genes to mutate has worked best for me. They have a chance of inheriting the stinky tail, fishing tail and others, though. These genes tend to vary from bearyena to bearyena and could be useful if you don't find good wanderers. Blindness can be quite useful. Short sighted eyes aren't, though. Finding food without smelling is hard. I' ve had two scenarios on this: Adam and Eve both had poison fangs. I didn't find wanderers. Adding blindness for +2 smelling gives a creature 3 in total, as good as the big nose, which wasn't unlocked. Another one is for a challenge. The big nose + blindness results in 5 smelling. These creatures make good scouts with an aid. The gene isn't that awful, even when it lurks around in your rec. gene pool. Rogue males sometimes get scared of your creatures and run away. Old rogue males will always mate and not run away. Even if you kill them in the process... So If you plan on breeding a female or to let her stay far away by a berry bush, it's best to get them pregnant as soon as possible. You don't want rogue children. Keeping more than 6 immunity genes at a time is a menace. I would know, I made my first nichelings get all of them. It doesn't help you, it slows down progress. So don't worry about losing some above that number. To unlock the big ears, scorpion tail and lean body, go to the Oasis. The port has bones on it, but is way easier than the other hot islands. Come with swimming genes. There is usually one hot spot with a lot of berry bushes, though. If you are planning on winged creatures, get at least 300 food first, unlock the scorption tail and keep a supporting blood line. You usually start with the medium body and horns, then get wings, the beak and bearyena hindlegs. The mega. Horns and big body gives them a base strenght of 5. On harder island, a few bearyena snouts and the club like tail can get you up to an 8. This is a late game build, unless you start on the summer mountains. The fastest way to ancient genes is to start on the summer mountains. Get big body+ fluffy tail and full running legs, go to the harder snow biome, grab what you can and make a run for it to the ports! Sorry, that's all that I can think of at the moment.

I love Ruby's purr snout My favorite boy so far, Thunder ❤️ My second favorite ❤️ I also encountered a bearyena and her cub within the first few days. It was awesome and super lucky! Also got some copy/paste twins as my first twins ever!

  29. I had to upvote because carrots are my favourite vegetable. But in all seriousness having a vegetable food source would be a nice alternative that I don't believe has been added yet. Edit: Oh yeah and instead of adding a new ability for "Picking" I would think harvesting Carroots would use Digging.

  30. I too would love to see this added. Having the ability to create custom maps is one of the things I like a lot in games especially strategy based ones. This could also tie into the request for Challenges with Win Conditions. Being able to either hand craft or define some parameters for the island would fit well together.

  36. I ended up with my little scorpion family all in one spot, they're all so cute and also I'm kinda proud of myself, I haven't actually unlocked the scorpion tail yet, I was just lucky enough to get a wanderer with the tail and through some very selective breeding, I've managed to keep it in my tribe! I love my little desert family
