Lol, as someone who mods his Skyrim to death and has at least 1 mod in all other moddable games this is an odd thing to hear. Of course modders can do horrible things but no one forces you to download them ^^ so I think it would be an odd thing for somebody to say that is the reason why there is no mod support XD As stated above the devs said it would be to difficult which I find super sad because I loooooooove modding, sigh. If we had Niche mod support I might have started creating mods myself4 points

It's a Niche series by Seri Pixel Biologist. It is a blind genes and random generator challenge, where as Wander said you can have 2-20 nichelings determined by a random generator. You choose a leader each time the previous leader dies, but they don't hve to actually lead n' stuff. When you choose a new leader it determines the amount of nichelings you can have. When you assign mutations, one is decided by a random generator, or 'Niche gods' if you want to get roleplay-ie, wether it be numbers or a thing a fan of Seri made on Scratch. Here's that- https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/214535915/ That's about it!4 points

I HEARD MY NAAAAMEEEEE That aside, I just don't think Niche would be able to support mods. I think it's because Stray Fawn Studio doesn't have that big of a budget, unlike some other popular games with mods like Don't Starve Together. Like Pokestar said, But it is an interesting thought!2 points

I think my favorite non-nicheling animal was a horny male that I named "Horny Slut"2 points

Oh! I didn't realize some of these things were already planned to be implemented! Sorry I'm new. ^^; And yeah, I knew I could have made separate posts for each of these things in the other forum. I just didn't want to be that new person spamming up the place lol Plus, I like seeing what other people would like added to the game.2 points

I heard of people talk of it before, and it sounds like a fun challenge, but how does it work? 🤔 Is it one of those challenges where "If X happens, it affects Y?" Please tell me!!! I'm very confused! - Goggles-kun Should I leave a signature at the end of every topic? Oh, never mind...1 point

Would you like this to be the official name for the species that results from breeding a nichelibg and a bearyena?1 point

While responding to a comment from Goggles-Kun, I came to a realization. There is a good reason while there may never be mods in niche. If we consider it, people could make a lot of horrible things, like turning predators into levitating organs, including certain traumatizing diseases, altering some genes so they look more... realistic, and even turning the heads of every creature into purr snout heads to stare into our souls, and make hordes of rogue purr snouts spawn and stare even more. And anyone could install these mods. Also modding could make some less interested in the updates.1 point

It's a Whims of Fate challenge, but I'll do what i did with her Grandfather (Bear) and take a screenshot without looking at it and then let myself look at it after a while (so that everybody's genes will be completely different than hers by then-that way I don't know exactly what genes are in my tribe right now )1 point

The notification menu is nice, but could use some improvement in my opinion -tell the name of the nicheling that died -tell which gene you've unlocked -tell the name of which nicheling is sick -tell the name of which nicheling got infected (and by who) -tell the name of which nicheling got impregnated by a rogue male -tell the name of which nicheling got leeched -tell the name of which nicheling is bleeding I know that a lot of these you can just click "show" and go to the niche that is affected. But with the dead nicheling, it just shows a dead body and I have to figure out which one that is. Also, it's annoying when I click to see which nicheling is affected and it's just some omega that I don't care about anyway. Edit: Oh and please have a notification when my nicheling is getting eaten alive by a razorhana.1 point

I get the idea and don’t get me wrong, I think it’s good, but how would this work if you change a Nichelings name? For example, I have a creature named Rerasi and is bleeding. I decide to change her name on the same day she’s bleeding, would the notification change because I changed her name? Ideally yes, but from a game design perspective I’m not sure how difficult it would be to implement, it might be simple but I’m just putting this out there just in case. Also this post: https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/589-unlook-gene-menu-notifications/ And this post: https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/2560-one-of-your-creatures-died-who-and-by-what/1 point

I'm pretty sure you will be able to, as Steam saves all the info in the games in your account. Buuut, don't take my word 'cause I'm not completely sure.1 point

A very nice suggestion! I'm sure a few other people have already suggested this, though. Just goes to show how popular the suggestion is!1 point

I think that the island travel system is one of the poorest features in the game. It's hard to tell which island you've been to, and you have little to no control over which islands you'll be able to travel to. Like if you want to go to a hot environment to unlock the genes, you just have to hope a savanna port appears otherwise you're out of luck. Marking which islands you've been to would be a small improvement, but any improvement would be better than nothing.1 point

Well, I read what you both said here and in the comments section of the other post. I think that it is an interesting thought and it might be partially be right, I believe the devs have stayed multiple times that there will not be any modding due to how difficult it would be to implement since they would essentially have to rework the entire game. But like I said earlier, it definitely could be that they may just say this since it is their main reasoning.1 point

Hello all, I am new here.... and thanks in advance for any help. My kids are very interested in Niche from videos they have seen (I assume they stumbled on them from Youtube), but I was hoping for your help as I am very clueless on games these days and couldn't immediately find a definitive answer around. First, on the cost. Is Niche at $17.99 a one-time purchase? Are there regular recurring fees of any sort, and/or payments for upgrades, new releases, etc? Is the Steam app on desktop the usual way to do it? Also, my kids are 7 and 9 years old -- is that too young? From what I could tell, the game is as complicated or simple as you want to make it, and they certainly understand the concept of evolution, genes, etc. It looks fun for that age, but I wanted to check. Any other tips would be greatly appreciated, on the game and also any words of wisdom for parents of younger players. Thank you for your words of wisdom, Tim1 point

If your kids have watched videos of it then they will probably understand it well. The only problem is that some islands may be a bit difficult for a seven year old, but It surely wont matter on the long run. Well, they may be jump scared by apes in the jungle levels... Just kidding. The apes look quite funny.1 point

Because some of the trees are different colors, there should be different varieties of tree colored nichelings too ^^ And what about something like the whale island ports' color? Love this idea!1 point

Love it! If there are ever special genes to unlock for special achievements...hope that is one of them if not implanted normally ❤️1 point

I actually taped a piece of paper to the upper part of my screen which I could flip back and forth whenever I opened up the family tree but it soon became to tedious for me so I screwed the blind genes challenge ^^1 point

This is poor Dandelionheart a healer who sacrificed herself to pick food in the jungle so that all the Nichelings on the safe heaven could live on. This is said safe heaven Surprisingly enough I don't have that many jungle misadventures, though when you think about the fact that I hate the jungle and avoid going there as much as possible it is not that surprising ^^1 point

I have a few almost-clones. I can share pics later. The screenshots are on another computer.1 point

I think your kids will be OK playing this game. I have been playing only for a week or so and I think it's fine, even great, for kids. There is of course death in this game, and 'rogue males,' creatures with bad genetics which try to get your female animals pregnant. But none of it is 'realistic' or intimate at all. I am still a teen and my twelve year old sister plays too. My four year old sister enjoys watching us play sometimes, and I would not allow that if I did not think the game was suitable for kids. She is too young to play as she doesn't understand the mechanics or genetics at all, but I think seven and nine, especially if they understand genetics, are good ages if they can understand how to play. I agree with @Wander that it can be difficult to understand the tutorial. I had been watching youtube videos of it before so I mostly understood how the game worked, and knew a lot more tips and tricks on how to play. I recommend your kids watch some video tutorials on youtube if they haven't already. Though I don't think they have any videos directly telling you how to play the game, there are several 'let's play' kid-friendly Niche youtubers like Jessimew and Seri! Pixel Biologist! That can help show them some tips like what healing plants are, and how to hunt for food. I watched Seri before getting the game and I feel much more prepared then I would have. I believe it is a one time fee. Though I got mine for free from one of the forum moderators. They sometimes will have steam key giveaways here on the forums, which are basically codes that you can enter to get a free niche. Around 20-30 people enter and there are usually 3 winners.1 point

I like the idea of digging being more useful of a trait overall. Right now there's not really any reason to stack digging genes except to get more roots. Having a safe nest from birds would be really cool. Maybe high digging stat could also help you catch stagmoles hiding in their holes.1 point

I like the idea of cold resistant ears, but... I would rather they look like lynx ears, with tufts on the end, or arctic fox ears, short, upright, and packed with fur. I feel obligated to point out that lop ears like the original suggestion are pretty much nonexistent except where humans have really warped domestic animals' genomes.1 point

I would like fluffy ears, too. However, maybe they could be more like a lynx's tufted ears, or the ears of an arctic fox, and not like cuddly dog ears? That's just my opinion, though.1 point
