  1. I once saw a digging pawed wanderer dig up a root

  2. Razorr (by the rock) with his son and daughter. Right after I got this shot his mate (SnowLily, shown on the nest) gave birth to another girl with darker coloring but the same pattern.

  3. My newest little favorite. Born today. She looks like a little Dalmatian puppy. Yes I named her after the Disney character.

  4. I would make a mix between the jungle and the mountains, separated by a river and a small grassland island. There would maybe be a small island off to the side, requiring swimming to, that would be a 'whale island' biome (birch trees, stinky fruit, slightly higher chance of winged wanderers, etc.). That way, there would be two safe havens (although it still might snow on them). I personally think it might have potential for some interesting stories.

  7. You could set yourself a tribe size limit, that you could change during game (if you watch Niche: Whims of fate, you know why this is needed). When your tribe is full, you can't invite wanderers. You can have your nichelings mate, but no babies will be born before there's room in the tribe. If you have multiple females on nest, but not enough room in the tribe for all of the babies, the females with he highest rank will give birth first. If you have too many females of the highest rank, the oldest ones give birth first. You can't set the tribe limit smaller than your tribe is. You'll need to get rid of your extra creatures before making the limit smaller.

  8. This goes hand in hand with a setting to change the lifespan of your Nichelings. If a Nicheling lives for, say, 40 days or longer, being able to give birth on the day after breeding feels a little overpowered. Why not add in the option to change the pregnancy duration, so a female can only give birth two days after breeding, or make the waiting time even longer, depending on your preference and wish for realism?

  9. There are many players who do challenges in Niche already. I think it would be great if you could design challenges and also include a win condition. That way, the game will make sure you can't cheat and tell you when you reached the goal you set.

  10. The basic idea is that a tribe such as Adam's inhabits the same islands you do. They want to steal your food, nests, or attack your pack under certain conditions. This was already suggested before the wings update multiple times. Is there still interest in the community concerning rival tribes? They would make the game significantly harder.

  11. This wasn't getting addressed elsewhere, so I'm making a separate thread for it. When I paste a save file into the Saves folder, it doesn't show up when I load the game. I'm pasting it into the correct folder and giving it the name of an empty slot.

  12. The isle they where on was actually shallow enough for them to safely get to the main isle, but any creature under two gems started drowning. (Learned that the hard way ;-;) As for the isle, it grass adventure or grass mingle, I can't remember which. (I wish I could catch fish, but the claw got bred out pretty early on) (On an underwater attempt too ;-;)

  14. You find your save files here depending on your operating system. Linux: ~/.config/unity3d/Team Niche/Niche - a genetics survival game/Saves Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/unity.Team Niche.Niche - a genetics survival game/Saves Windows: C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\LocalLow\Team Niche\Niche - a genetics survival game\Saves Then copy/ paste them to the location you want. I recommend making a folder somewhere named Niche Backup saves or just Backup saves. I have my folder on my desktop. Voila, you have a back up of your saves. If you want to exchanged your save files just copy/ paste them back into the original game saves folder. Really, there isn't much more to backing up your safe files

  16. @RandomWanderer I was not talking in the context of how it's currently implemented in the game, just about the idea in general I agree with you that if we did this at some point, it would certainly require re-balancing.

  18. I would love to be able to select different lifespans As it is I haven't been playing much. I find it hard to get attached to my nichelings when they die so quickly .n.

  19. Yikes. The second rouge had --theoretically-- the ability to leave over the field with a root on it. He didn't move until he died, even with three females around. The others were just stuck. The Oasis gets plenty of rogues on small islands. I didn't have too many stuck creatures anywhere else though, the not too many being the odd bearyena. Wanderers stop moving in an attempt to dig up a root. That usually spans over a couple days, but what is the rogue doing? Do they dig? Can they dig?

  22. Right now we only have 3 eye types, nothing really suited for any specific traits or biomes. Here are my suggestions: Fish Eyes, and Bird Eyes. Fish Eyes: More recessive than Normal, Shortsighted, and Blind eyes, but dominant over Bird Eyes. Fish Eyes allow a creature to see 3 tiles underwater, but only 1 on land. Visually, they would be very round (kind of like derp snout eyes). There are no whites of the eye, only the iris (dependent on eye color) and a slightly misshapen, shiny pupil. (based on real fish eyes, of course.) Bird Eyes: More recessive than all eye genes. On the ground, it would be like any normal eye, being able to see 2 tiles away. But in a tree or on a stump, they can see extra far. Also, you know how when a normal-eyed Nicheling is in the grass, the tiles directly around them have translucent grass? Bird-eyed Nichelings would have 2 tiles of translucent grass. Visually, they would be sharp, pointed eyes with small irises and pupils. Thanks for reading

  24. I was thinking that adding an option to choose which genes we want in sandbox, how often animals/nichelings spawn, and life spans of nichelings could brig a lot of replayability into sandbox!

  25. So all credit to @Niche fan for suggesting this! But they never explained how it would work in game, so I'm suggesting how it will work! So, I'm doing this because I noticed it was in the second community voting of the top 20 most voted. So, here we go! List of all heterochromia I have seen in cats in pictures: Yellow-Blue Blue-Orange Blue-Green Green-Blue Brown-Blue Of course we can make other color combinations, but yup. So I'll use Brown-Blue as my example. The left side would be brown because the left eye would be brown and the right side blue because the right eye would be blue. This could be something from wanderers that you can unlock if you invite them to your tribe, like a rare cosmetic unlockable? Or it could be like albinism and melanism and not be in the mutation menu. But it'd be very hard to get in your genes and all other eye colors would trump heterochromia because its so rare. Yeah thats it, admins feel free to move this somewhere else if it should be! (Link to original idea) https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/638-2-different-eye-colors/

  26. I think your kids will be OK playing this game. I have been playing only for a week or so and I think it's fine, even great, for kids. There is of course death in this game, and 'rogue males,' creatures with bad genetics which try to get your female animals pregnant. But none of it is 'realistic' or intimate at all. I am still a teen and my twelve year old sister plays too. My four year old sister enjoys watching us play sometimes, and I would not allow that if I did not think the game was suitable for kids. She is too young to play as she doesn't understand the mechanics or genetics at all, but I think seven and nine, especially if they understand genetics, are good ages if they can understand how to play. I agree with @Wander that it can be difficult to understand the tutorial. I had been watching youtube videos of it before so I mostly understood how the game worked, and knew a lot more tips and tricks on how to play. I recommend your kids watch some video tutorials on youtube if they haven't already. Though I don't think they have any videos directly telling you how to play the game, there are several 'let's play' kid-friendly Niche youtubers like Jessimew and Seri! Pixel Biologist! That can help show them some tips like what healing plants are, and how to hunt for food. I watched Seri before getting the game and I feel much more prepared then I would have. I believe it is a one time fee. Though I got mine for free from one of the forum moderators. They sometimes will have steam key giveaways here on the forums, which are basically codes that you can enter to get a free niche. Around 20-30 people enter and there are usually 3 winners.

  27. Maybe making it so you can have only one baby nicheling at a time like the pack is only capable of protecting one of their young at a time.and even later introducing like unsuccessful births into the mix if your creature is trying to give birth while sick etc.

  28. @RandomWanderer maybe when you start the game you can just pick if you want the ability to change it or not. that way you can have that game mode that stops you from cheating and if someone wants to change it in game they can do that. these sandbox options are all about customizing things so why not have both.
