  1. If you ever wanted to generate the default names Niche gives you, this is for you! There are instructions on the page on how to use it. You can also create new Niche like names if you'd like to test out new syllables and whatnot, and you can also find instructions on how to do that on the page. Here's the link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Y_g0rmUQFI6NS6SDZoER7fH91bvcSC60R4jTHsKl5z8/edit?usp=sharing If you want to just pick random names from a list, there's a way to that too but you can't do it on that page and you should let me know if you want help with that.

  3. I went to one of my savefiles today. I had used up everyone's turns last time I played, so I just set some mutations on the females that were about to give birth. I passed the day, and after I moved a couple of Nichelings, I noticed that the skeleton of one of my creatures can see stuff.Help! There's a ghost in my savefile! Slot1.nichesave

  4. Short answer: Add ping thingies on the minimap Long answer: So, I was playing around with Nimbatus when I had this quick idea for an idea/addition part. What this part does, is that it adds a node to the minimap, when given the instruction to. The node will show it's location on the minimap, and can also be the target of directional sensors. But! It will also have some neat tricks up it's sleeve! The node can have it's icon changed in the editor, to help relay specific information, such as whether the node represents a certain type of drone, or it's situation. The node can also have it's color changed (like LEDs), which will be reflected on the minimap. The node can also be "pinged", where it will show an outline of the node expand over the minimap. This can be used to show a specific alert from the node. This will be useful for players using autonomous multidrone systems, especially now with the printer, so they can easily see the status of their drones without having to complicate things with cameras.

  5. I haven't played in the Oasis recently but I never had a problem with to few fish. Sometimes my Nichelings would overfish the lake and to prevent that I just moved them to the ocean or the outer edge to leave some darkness so that fish would spawn better. Your foodstores usually don't grow as fast when you only eat fish but if you don't overpopulate the place it is fine. Usually the ocean isn't a feasable place but can be useful with cracker jaw+water body Nichelings, especially now since we have piranhas in the ocean

  7. Even though I kept quitting on the oasis, I actually really enjoyed playing there. I think I can say that Oasis is one of my favorite islands so far (along with whale island and archipelago)

  8. I explored 3/4ths of the lake before leaving, but very little ocean. And now, thinking back, I actually did okay on the oasis. I bet I could have actually survived if I didn't decide to leave. Without the water genes, my creatures are super slow in the water. All the fish get away, or my creatures just aren't fast enough to make it over to them to catch them that day. My berry pickers were the omegas with no claws. Like I said, Bearyenas ate them all.

  9. I do wonder, there usually are very few fish midisland. Do you explore the ocean? I never go water and just find a good berry spot, a there are usually one or two. How do you make a good profit with water genes? Even on the most fitted islands with full blown water genes, my final food stack grows so slowly.

  10. Aah... Oasis always gives me trouble. Half the time I just use the consle to make my creatures have Oasis-friendly genes. This is coming from a person that forced herself to beat Zelda without having to use a walkthrough. For your last question: breed in those island-friendly genes FAST. Especially on hard and killer islands. It saves you from that massive headache you'll get 😅

  12. I looooove starting in the Oasis. It's one of my fav places. The second run started pretty well. Sounds like you had some bad luck with the claw inheritance though. For Oasis: claw is more important than water body. My order is always: claw (double slots in the mutation menu if you have it unlocked (it is way more fun if you go to the Oasis without having it unlock ) and then worry about everything else. Works for me usually. Also it is very useful to have the females either breed on the island in the middle of the lake or on the edge to give them the opportunity to fish to if they have claw and so that the kids can go into the water as soon as possible. Can't think of anything else of the top of my head right now except that you might want to consider some cracker jaws to pick up coconuts and shells

  15. And so I present several types of guidance systems for Nimbatus sumo drones! Also see my other guide for information about specific varieties of drone. Simple guidance systems Simple guidance systems are employed in more complicated designs, but can be perfectly practical on their own. If you're new to sumo drone design, start here. Unguided The unguided system is easily explained. The drone simply uses a button to activate all it's thrusters to go forward. Naturally, this is only seen on rammers, and is very rarely successful. Most modern drones are easily capable of compensating for this sort of system. A simple unguided drone, as it would be seen on a rammer. Directional guidance for steering Simple directional guidance uses a directional sensor, connected to the rotational thrusters of a craft. It usually suffices most drones, and can be used both offensively and defensively. A simple directional guidance system allows the drone to turn to find the center of the arena. It is less than idea for center seeker drones, and is much more at home in rammer or pusher drones. Distance guidance for steering Simple distance guidance uses distance sensors to sense opposing craft, and turn towards them. It was very common during the Nimbatus demo, but has fallen out of favor to much simpler directional sensor systems, once they were available. They are also often prone to issues when used versus multi-drone classes, where mini drones could give false directions on the direction sensors. Directional guidance for detection Despite being used for directional guidance, directional sensors can also perform the role of a distance sensor. The directional sensor can be set up in a way that it has a very large tolerance range, and that it outputs for only a small fraction of it's area. This can then be used to determine whether a target is in a key position, such as whether a sumo enemy is in front of them. This can be advantageous for many reasons. Directional guidance for detection also lacks any of the downfalls of distance guidance, and cannot be confused by multi-drone setups. Distance guidance for detection Distance sensors are often employed on pusher drones to dictate whether a target is in front of it, and whether it should trigger it's thrusters to ram it. This system is mostly foolproof, but has some key issues. The distance sensor can be triggered by mini-drones if the opponent is a multi-drone, and also has a very limited field of view, in a straight line only. As such, it has fallen out of favor to much more reliable directional guidance systems. Specialist Guidance Systems Micha-guidance Micha-guidance uses two directional sensors on each axis of the drone. The direction of the axis will dictate the direction to the drones target. Since it is omnidirectional, it works well for center seeker drones and spinners. Especially spinners, which rely on constantly changing direction, where conventional directional guidance systems would simply fail. It is named after Nimbatus developer Micha, who had used the guidance system in one of his own sumo drone challengers. A simple Micha-guidance center seeker drone. It can very happily move in any direction towards it's target, regardless of orientation. Glider guidance Glider guidance uses the arena wall to help it skim along the arena edge. It uses a directional sensor to keep itself pointed towards the center, and a direction sensor to detect the arena edge, to then boost it away from it. A simple glider guidance system at work. Think I forgot something? Want to contribute? Share your drone designs and guidance systems below!

  17. I'm aware that there's another suggestion for a volcano island already, but I had this written before that thread was posted. I'm not stealing "Ancestor Nature"'s idea. Anyway, here are my combined ideas for a new island type and an aquatic creature that would inhabit the surrounding ocean and beaches of that island. New Island: Tropical Volcano Island This would be a new type of island, set at Medium difficulty or higher, and it'd have a hot climate, requiring at least 1 or 2 heat resistance. A large mountain in the center dominates the landscape, like the First Snow island, however this mountain is made of tiles resembling black volcanic rock instead of the grey-ish mountain tiles from the cold islands. Black fur gives a bonus to camouflage on these tiles. Berrybushes spawn aplenty in the grassland-jungle mix of tiles further down the mountainside, which are rimming the island. Coconut trees on the beaches are scattered about in abundance, and even some healing fruits and jungle plants like the Stinky Fruit Trees or Carnivorous Plants could spawn. There are many coves and bays, large beach areas and lots of corals (Waterbreathing Plants) in the shallow ocean areas that surround the island, as well as nearby several tiny, sandy islands further offshore. Clusters of corals form reefs on the sides of these islands, along with seaweed that most commonly spawns Clown Koi. Seaweed and all kinds of fish spawn in the bays, making Water Body and Gills very viable. When it rains, mosquito swarms could spawn on swamp tiles scattered in with the grassland-jungle mix, though that may be too much. The mountain's peak would be cut off in a bowl shape, like a small caldera, and it's height and shape would vary from island to island. A Nicheling would be able to climb down into the sealed-off crater without danger if the volcano is currently dormant. A randomized event would take place every now and again, similar to the cold island's seasons, causing the player to hear rumbling on the first day and see the volcano's maw begin to smoke, hear louder rumbling and see occasional shaking of the entire island on the second, until on the third day the volcano erupts. The summit is filled to the brim with lava, and a randomized amount of 1-3 tile wide lava streams start to pour down from the top of the mountain, advancing a tile every time a Nicheling moves, or one tile for every two moves made by Nichelings, if the first would be too difficult. If a Nicheling, plant or other creature touches a lava stream, they die or are instantly destroyed, and if they are right next to a lava stream, they take damage from the intense heat. Nichelings should flee towards the shore and into the water, since the lava streams will cease flowing once they touch water, and begin cooling over the next three days. The sides of the mountain will be very barren for some time, turning the tiles where the lava hardened into black volcanic rock. However, once it rains, saplings will appear again, on both the mountainsides and the trails of black tiles where the lava of the most recent eruption cooled. The saplings could either be randomly placed, or regrow on tiles where berrybushes used to be, and will reach maturity in the next few days, faster than a regular berry bush would if it was cut down, since the soil left behind by a volcanic eruption is very fertile. There are no acorn trees, however there might be Bearyenas or a new kind of tropical predator that isn't as strong as the apes to replace Bearyenas. Other creatures on the island include Bunnils, Dodomingoes, Crabbits, Rogue Males, wandering Nichelings, Bluebirds, possibly an ape or two spawning from jungle trees that might appear in a couple of the generated islands or a more difficult version of them, and a new kind of aquatic creature I'd like to call the Delphirtle, though an alternate name could be Turphin or Dolphirtle. New Aquatic Creature: Delphirtle These creatures are hybrids of a dolphin and a turtle. Unlike all aquatic creatures right now, they don't skirt along the bottom of the sea floor, but float near the surface of the water, similarly to how Bluebirds float above land tiles. They'd probably work like bunnils, moving a tile every time one of the player's Nichelings moves. They spawn in schools of 2-6 individuals, hunt fish, crack shells and eat seaweed, as well as attack crabbits if they're underwater. They have 1-2 eyesight, 1-2 smelling, 2 defense (given by their turtle shell), 6 fishing, 2-3 swimming, 1 speed (beach only), 1 Cracking, 1 Collecting (seaweed only), and 2-4 attack. They're neutral to the player's Nichelings unless attacked, or if their food sources (fish spawn places) have been taken over by the player's tribe, then they will be hostile towards solo Nichelings or Nichelings in groups smaller than their school, otherwise they'll flee. As a randomized or season-bound event, a school will migrate to nearby beach tiles, crawl onto the sand, and lay eggs, 1-2 per Delphirtle. Then, the school stays in the water nearby until these eggs hatch. The eggs may be harvested by Nichelings, however this will turn any nearby Delphirtles of the same school hostile. After two to three days, the young Delphirtles will hatch and crawl over the sand into the ocean. Adolescents have only 1 defense and 1 swimming, and are unable to fish or crack clams. After about five days, which are spent sharing a tile with adult Delphirtles, they grow up and form a new, independent school. If there are more than 6 adolescents, they split into two schools, each consisting of 2-6 members. A Delphirtle drops about 5-10 food when killed. When the player arrives on the island, one school will be spawned in the ocean surrounding it. Another school has a very low chance of spawning each time a day is passed, in saltwater out of sight of the player's Nichelings and far away from any other schools currently present. Additional schools may form from a present school's offspring. If a maximum of four schools is reached, no more eggs will be laid. Delphirtles have a lifetime of 20 days. Rarely, an individual Delphirtle may spawn with the ability to pick up a leech. If a Nicheling removes their leech and gives them 5-10 food, this Delphirtle's school will from then on be friendly to them, unless Nichelings from the same tribe attack this school, their eggs or their adolescents. They will from then on be likely to stay within five or six tiles of the Nicheling who befriended them, and when a Delphirtle from this school catches fish, it will, as long as it is within sight range of a Nicheling from the player's tribe, bring that Nicheling half of the spoils which then go towards the player's food count. This school will also not eat any seaweed or crack any clams within sight of the player's Nichelings. The individual who spawned with the ability to pick up leeches can still pick them up, and will swim to the nearest Nicheling for help if they happen to get one. I imagine Delphirtles to have colours similar to sea turtles: shades of blue-green with some blue-grey and darker bits, though a very blue-grey-heavy design might fit better with the oceans of Niche. That's for the devs to decide, if this suggestion gets far enough. What do you think?

  18. This suggestion was brought to you by my crippling obsession over Splatoon You can take this either way and call it "octopus body" instead x33 Okay, so... that's what I imagine it would look like. (If you're confused by the triangle on it's shoulder, it's supposed to resemble a squid's head... kinda like this) "And why are the eyes so box-y?!", You ask. My idea is that if the squid body gene is in effect, the pupils turn into rectangles. My reason? Squids have rectangular pupils. But squids also have circular and oval-shaped pupils you dingus! Okay, so, what would the squid body do? My proposed idea: they can shoot ink whilst underwater. How would this work? Say a leech sneaks up behind your innocent creature while underwater. The player has the option to squirt ink directly at the leech, and it would travel for two tiles. This stuns the leech for a full in-game day, and therefore, allows the creature to escape. This is also applicable to creatures like bearyenas and wanderers (if also underwater.) There could be an option where you can choose what direction you want to shoot ink. "But what about camera direction," you ask. "wouldn't that screw up where the ink goes?" Actually, good point there, Francis! ...I'm sure there's a logical proposed solution but I can't think of one right now. Other than the option to shoot ink, what else does this give you? +2 swimming +1 Underwater breathing Happy ink shooting!

  20. So as of now the names are randomly generated by the game The Males use these syllables: Van, Ro, Duk, Kir, Ta, Nu, and Ku The Females use these syllables: Ra, Is, Re, Si, La, Ko, Me, and Ana So I have had at times 2 Vankirs, or Duktas etc. What if we added a few more syllables to make that less common. Male Syllables: Ti, Tu, To, and Mu examples: Kirmu, Rotu ,Vantu ,Tito ,Tomu, Tunu, and Vannuto Female Syllables: Di, Ki, and Le examples: Anale, Anaki, Kiana, Diana, Dilame, Meanaki, Merale, Ledile, Dikile

  30. Just wanted to share this with you because I think it’s so cool. So my dad bought this gorgeous agaitzed petrified wood. (He is a big nature and fossil fan!) It was like $130 or something and he loved it a lot and was very proud of it. But then, today, it was accidentally knocked off the mantle and shattered into a million pieces! My poor dad was so upset and sad at his loss. However, my sisters and I decided that we would try our luck at piecing it back together. We started with the biggest chunks and then our dad scrounged the garbage can for the small fragments he threw away. Eventually, this is what happened: we were able to piece the rock back together like a puzzle down to the tiniest bits with just a few tiny chunks remaining around the edges! We thought it was too far gone but apparently not! It may eventually get plastered together and hopefully be displayed in glorified honor once again!

  41. Personally, I'd like to see shields be something more like Wayward Terran Frontier, something regenerated from a source at the generators, but which you can dig a hole into. Right now you either have to overwhelm energy reserves, fire from within the shield, or destroy it entirely. It's either entirely effective or entirely ineffective.

  42. Not sure. I'm not feeling this one, but I'm not sure why. Part of it may be that it's not emergent; most of the weapons with complex behavior are emergent from simple combinations. You can make a carpet-bomber for instance, but it's basically a grenade launcher with accuracy downgrades, and multi-fire/RoF upgrades. You can make an acid sprayer, but it's just the particle gun with heavy and bouncy particles. In this, it feels like though you build it from the smaller guns, it's not an emergent property of them. It's a whole new gun, and the four guns are part of a recipe. I'm not sure. I'm tired. I'll sleep on it and look at this again.
