  1. If you don't like the game, and only read a small summary of the game, then why haven't you watch others play it? Whenever I see people react like this, saying the game isn't "good enough for their taste" then I question, are you really a person who reads the entire thing? If you haven't seen someone else play it, and then soak in what it really about, you would like the game. Not saying you did this, but just an FYI, Spore costs more than this, and also, games aren't easy to create. Spore and Niche have a similar idea, with the "genetics" and "befriending" natural enemies. So I am questioning if you like the graphics or adventure more then the whole idea of the game.

  2. The game sure isn't perfect (yet..?), but it's worth its price, if you want cheaper games, just buy steam keys elsewhere. I still agree that multiplayer would be REAAAAALLY nice (and i'm more of a single player games type of person... But I think Niche has so much potentiel to go multiplayer...) But, max2Veg, I think Niche has already anough depth with genetics, and it is, as said "a GENETICS survival game", not a "nutrition" survival game. Without considering the current debate in society about nutrition (Devs can confirm, but I'm not sure you want to dig in this debate), it would add too much difficulties in the game. Basically, living in plants-deprived environment such as mountains would be a huge disadvantage for example, and it would necessit a shitload of balancing in the game. You bought the game for what it advertised : Genetics-based survival game where you have to adapt to your environment. So don't go saying the game is not worth its price because it doesn't have a "real innovative thing" it never pretend to have.

  5. Right now albinism in niche is a desirable gene due to it's beutiful looks, even tough it removes all camoflauge. In real life albino animals have a really small change of surviving. They lack protection from UV and have bad eyesight. I have had rats with red eyes, and they all had bad eyesight. (I haven't had an albino rat, but many colors like marten come with red eyes.) So my suggestion is to edit following stats on albino nichelings: remove all heat recistance make it so that albino nichelings can only have blind or shortsighted eyes This is just to make the game more realistic. Albinism is currently too easy to survive with. If a lot of people don't want it, we could make it a sandbox option! Related suggestions: GO VOTE ALL OF THEM!!! https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/3201-albinism-and-melanism-give-camouflage-stats/ https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/3173-piebaldism-in-niche/ https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/2160-albino-wildlife🐁/&page=0#comment-6490 https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/2801-albinos-have-pink-noses/&page=0#comment-10564 https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/2297-albinismmelanism-in-mutation-menu/&page=0#comment-7357

  6. Right now albinism/melanism completely takes away all camouflage stats, and I think it's kinda unfair. What I'm suggesting is that albinism gives +2 or 3 camo in the mountains, and melanism gives +2 or 3 camo in the jungles. I think it's unfair that a big-eyed ape is gonna go after my melanistic creature even though there's a creature with gray fur standing right next to it...

  7. 6. What is someone like you doing in a place like this? Leila's life was good. She may have been the leanest creature of her line, but she had food for days and a best friend she could always depend on. Oh, and a loyal nest warmer. Infact, her prospects only kept looking up!

  8. 4. Laana. There were no two things about it, she had a stalker. When she climbed out of the nest, he was there. When she made her way across the island, his red coat blazed behind her every step. And then he brought his brother and his real, creepy self to daylight. 5. Corruption Meko was a thing of beauty. The ones touched by the curse had been, if not disfigured, at least profoundly plain. But the curse hesitates for nobody.

  9. 1. The hybrid Eagle can defend himself while being fast. He killed the bearyena attacking Lako, but he just wasn't strong enough to meet his child. 2. Is bad Luck heritary? Sparrow was too slow to escape. After being chased out of the Oasis and away from her mother's bones, she at least met a rather charming rogue. 3. And this... Would be where things got weird.

  10. Suggestion: Instead of making it so albinos can only have shortsighted/blind eyes, just make it where if they have regular eyesight they get -1 eyesight, so then it's the equivalent of having shortsighted eyes. If they are already shortsighted or blind, this won't happen and they'll retain their poor/nonexistent eyesight.

  11. A pet raven!? I would love a pet raven to just perch on my shoulder on halloween

  12. Also it doesn't make any sense at all. Black fur gives good camouflage in the jungle and melanism is basically the same but it doesn't? Albinos are a little different as in they are very susceptible to sunburn and light in general. So a bright mountain/ snowy environment wouldn't be good/ comfortable to them, though you are right, they still would be harder to see

  13. What if all toxic body creatures automatically had bioluminecent patterns? Kinda like albinism overwrites pattern, color and eye color.

  14. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDED TO THE GAME HOLY CRAPPP Edit: What if you had a creature with the toxic body and the bioluminescent pattern?? That would be one colorful boi

  16. Thanks for reporting folks. We looked into it and there was nothing to be found We're at a point where we think this is a Steam related problem that we can't fix. For some people it just seems to take longer to get a specific breeding achievement (different for each player!) Usually when you just keep playing (and usually after restarting the game some times), you should get the achievement. I'll let you know if this changes. Sorry >_<

  19. like the decoupler, although the two separated parts are connected by a faint energy beam. and when the assigned key is pressed the two parts are pulled together and rejoin, allowing them to be decoupled a second or third time. it would make it much more fun to have mini-drones in our builds.
    1 point
  20. So, I stumbled on a problem recently. I had a large drone that decoupled from the core and a factory, which flew off to hide. Thus I could rebuild my drone, if destroyed. My drone was big enough that I used a decoupler chain to distance it from the core. In addition, it would deploy sub-drones that would carry ore containers to the hopper, drop into them, and once they touch down in the hopper, they would self-destruct. Every time it did this, it was cutting off my main drone. Finally, Entity helped me figure out why. The decoupler that I had used to connect the body of the drone to the core fell into the hopper, and during the subdrone's self-destruct, it destroyed the parent block to ALL my drone body's blocks. It just fell dead, a puppet with its strings cut. So I request that the cascade of de-activation of drone parts, after the destruction of a part with children, does not cascade beyond a factory or beyond a decoupler. Even if they're still coupled, those parts may still be fully functional.

  21. Inspired by the Niche steam suggestions, I've modified one of the challenges. You pick a starter and send them to the next island, where they find a mate. The mate's genes will be randomized by the random generator. Your nicheling doesn't mutate any traits. As they can only have one child, the story will repeat itself on the next island. It's really fun! Please post your own story if you like to try it.

  22. Needless to say, Beetle was a pessimistic child and an even more disgruntled adult. Not the strangest of coincidences nor the highest of luck would rouse a reaction from her frozen heart. 7. Her children, however, she would not let know of struggle. She found a friend in the equally grumpy swamp-squirrel. And would be the first to stay far away from burning grass and frozen mountains. Willow asks about her childhood, her tradition, and even if oh so careful and oh so cute, She never answers.

  27. *Running Niche Version 1.1.4* Hi again, it's me with another achievement issue I've encountered. This time, it's with the EmmaUniverse Achievement. The achievement requires that you breed an animal with Black Fur (with no melanism), Yellow Eyes, No Pattern, Poison Fangs, one Claw, Nimble Fingers, and to name the nicheling "Emma". I have bred such a child, but, upon naming her "Emma", I did not get the achievement as I was expecting to. I was connected both to the Internet and Steam at the time, and have both restarted the game multiple times and even continued with the save up to her adulthood and still have yet to get the achievement. Here is the save that the child resides on. Let me know if you need anymore information! Slot1.nichesave

  29. Hey again Players sometimes use the console as a way to 'cheat'. You can give yourself more food, change your nichelings' age, gender, or even their genes. I think there are other things you can do too. The problem is, it can be very buggy. I have only given myself food and changed genes before with the console. The food change was not buggy at all, but my creatures died of old age in just a few days when I changed their genes. Sometimes it isn't like that though. I think if you press one of the F keys at the top of the keyboard, it will pop up. Then you have to type in specific stuff to 'cheat'. be sure to back up your save files (make a copy and put them in a safe place) before using the console. Better safe than sorry! Cheers!

  32. @Philo I'm fairly certain this is an Emma creature, but of course, no achievement. Also, if it unlocks only with females, then I still should've gotten it, since I got two female Emmas previously (and another male, but I didn't name that one). Here's the save file if you need it (Not sure which one it is, might be both) Slot2.nichesave ttc-Karg.nichesave

  33. I have a problem where the grid doesn't let me place things where I want them. For me this could be fixed by make a feature where there were different grid modes that you could toggle examples: No grid, Smaller grid, or choosing the grid size if you add this a good place to me would be right here (with a drop-down menu if you have multiple options):

  38. You might be following the wrong path still, try the path I posted above. Ignore my previous comment.

  39. I think you are going down the wrong path. The Mac path for SAVEfiles is this: ~/Library/Application Support/unity.Team Niche.Niche - a genetics survival game/Saves you may have been following the LOGfiles path.

  40. Here's how I got there. I have a Windows 10 (i think) I open up a random folder on the desktop. Then I look along the sidebar and click "This PC." There should be a Windows (C:) icon that you click. Then you keep clicking folders, following the order above. One other thing that may be important is, if you look along the top of the finder view, click "View" and check the box that says "Hidden Folders." (Sorry for the late reply. It's my sister's birthday!)

  42. Rogue males mate with pregnant ladies, the friendly neighbourhood bearyena, teens, males, clams and the seagrass, all resulting in the same untraceable notification. Walruus deer eat your creatures whole and leave only the skin behind. Meat eating plants now have a 7 tile radius and wander the island. Food rots after two days. All nests are replaced by dancing apendages every time it rains. Dodomingoes get the respect they deserve and develop into winged rogue ladies. Rabbils steal the shape of your young and drain their lifeblood, replacing them with an infertile copy. All berries are replaced by extra crunchy eyeballs, giving the "existntial despair" debuff (complete with a spelling error).

  43. By far the most terrifying is the meat eating plant one. A seven tile radius and they wander the island?! Gods help us.

  44. I started a bunch of saves. My luckiest/favorite ones I will post here! Any others you can ask for and I can post them as well. Quadruple Claws on the Burning Savannah! I made no progress on this tribe yet. Literally just created the world, took screenshots of the creatures and exited. The ports are Oasis, Swampy Hill, and Grass Adventure. Their offspring and future generations would be great for the oasis. Lots of claws and fishing tails on these guys! Slot4.nichesave

  45. Peaceful herbivore challenge: You cant attack any other animal, including rogue males. You can only run and breed in the best genes to deter predators. Lions of the skies challenge: You must have a tribe of mostly males and only one or two permanent females. You release females when they are two gemmed and the males have to find them to mate when the become adults. Then, they can mate 1 to 3 times before the female is released again. Your goal is to unlock all bird genes. Peackock tail will aid you in mating songs for the females and wings will help you search for them if they are not attracted. Males get a better rank depending on their strength, beauty, leadership and how many females they have attracted. As a bonus, if you are in a snowy island you could have a set breeding season in a set breeding ground. For example, when it snows, the males call the females and bring them to the breeding ground so they can keep warm and start families, and when the snow stops, the females are released again to continue their solitary and adventurous lives.
