Dear crew, Here is a short overview on what we are working on and what new features and improvements you can expect in the future: Next Update: New Campaign Mode For the next update we are splitting the game into three different modes: Campaign, Sandbox and Competitive Mode. The campaign mode will feature a whole new set of rules and an improved progression system. We are experimenting with part unlocking, deployment costs and travel events for the campaign. However in the sandbox mode you will still be able to build huge drones with all parts unlocked from the start. This is a big update which requires time to develop. As soon as we have something to test, we will open up a preview branch so you can help us find bugs and give us early feedback before the update goes live. Planned Features and Improvements There are some features we already promised during our Kickstarter campaign and things we'd like to improve. Those will be added at some point during the Early Access: Ice planets Drone vs. drone combat arena Terrain rovers (wheels, ...) More environmental events & weather Bossfights More Settings for the sandbox mode Localization Suggest and vote for new features In addition to the features we have already planned, we give our best to listen to your feedback and include suggested features or improvements in every update! Here is how you can participate: Visit our Forum and go through all the drone part and feature suggestions to upvote the ones that you want to see in the game! Post your own suggestions and ideas, so other players can upvote them We look through all suggestions and decide which ones we are going to add for each update. The upvotes help us to see which suggestions are popular. The current plan is to fully release Nimbatus on Steam in Spring 2020. We are happy to have you on board and we are excited to keep improving Nimbatus together with you! Cheers, Stray Fawn Studio8 points

So we already have our classic permanent nest, super cozy and inviting, right? But it doesn't really fit in say, the mountains. That lush green grass laced in with the nest doesn't look... natural. We can say the same for the nests in the Savannah, Swamps, and even Jungles (not being able to find the hay colored material there). I think this would be a nice little touch that would make the game a bit more realistic. Mountain Permanent Nests: First Snow, Summer Mountains, Long Winter, Frost Lands. These nests would be a dark grey in color with white bits and patches representing those nesting material plants that are scattered around the mountains. They would also not be nestled inside a hollowed out tree trunk, but instead a hollowed out worn down rock. They could also have small hints of green here and there to represent the grasses that could be collected on the edge of the mountain islands, but this probably wouldn't be likely since some mountain islands don't have that green grass on the edges. (Hard difficulty). Grassland Permanent Nests: Tiny Green, Peaceful Meadow, Grass Adventure, Archipelago, First Snow [grass area], Grass Mingle, Summer Mountains [grass area], Crossing, Deadly Hills, Home Island, Whale Island. These would stay the same as they are. They already fit perfectly on their islands, the colors corresponding perfectly with the grasses and plants. Savannah Permanent Nests: Grass Adventure, Burning Savannah, Oasis, Grass Mingle. These nests would be the same color as the brittle grass around them. They would look sort of like a manually built nest but would have smears of mud and sturdy roots and sticks wrapping around it to give it a more permanent touch and look. A small dip in the ground would keep these nests in place with the cool soil touching the nest to cool down any babies inside of them. You will usually find these nests under the shady trees but you can find them scattered all over the island. Swamp Permanent Nests: Swampy Hill, Grass Adventure, Grass Mingle, Sleepy Reeds. Swamp permanent nests would be built inside dried up mud puddles that bug swarms would generally spawn in (don't worry they wont ever spawn on permanent nests in the swamps since the puddles are dried up). They would be made out of the thick, dense reeds that are scattered around swamps along with some of that nesting material plant that you sometimes find around the swamp island. Around the nest would be a thick layer of protective thorns that discourages outsiders to approach willingly but encourages Nichelings to bear their children in those nests for protection. Jungle Permanent Nests: Rainforest, Overgrown Jungle, Jungle Gate, Deep Jungle. These nests would be the most colorful of them all. It would include all the different colors of grasses in the jungle, including blues, greens and yellows. Small hints of pink would be in the nest as well representing flower petals. The swirly grass of the jungle would stick out here and there on the nests, representing a slightly messy yet cozy build. Permanent nests would most likely be specifically found near the base of those giant jungle trees entangled within the roots of the tree but can also be found scattered around in other locations too. In the other locations, they are just built out of large roots found around the island that give it shape. In conclusion, this would just be a nice little touch to the game that would make it a bit more realistic. Even though some people might not even notice the change, many people would, resulting in a more enjoyable experience with a realistic touch. (Don't get me wrong the game is super enjoyable just as it is but this would just add to the realistic factor) Credits to XzanderClownfish for creating the original topic, I just wanted to elaborate more ^^ Thank you for reading!3 points

Once upon a time, a baby named Dusktail was snatched away from his parents and nearly died. He renamed himself Duskstar the Great. He decided he wanted to gather a group of cats and leave the Clan. However, there was no clan, nor any other cats, so he decided to make his own clan first. He also wanted to find a wanderer and be mates with them (seriously, that's what my random generator picked out from my custom selection of aspirations.). This seemed to tie in well with his first idea, so his legs agreed with his brain that he should go to a new island in order to find some cats. Oh, look, he found a wander named Eve. Duskstar decided this would be his mate, since he didn't have a choice, and made her dump her old name and become known as Needlefall. She wants to defeat a predator and have multiple mates at the same time. Sorry, Duskstar. They had a kid named Mintfoot. He wants to destroy lots of berry bushes when he grows up. Next island, here we come! Ooh, another kit! Hi, Weaselhill! She wants to dig up roots and worms for a living. Also, Mintfoot decided he wants to come with his father when part of the clan goes and leaves. Interesting. Duskstar and Mintfoor decided to leave the clan like they always wanted to, leaving Needlefall as Needlestar and poor little apprentice Weaselhill as deputy. At least Dusktail (he's not leader anymore, so no more -star) left Needlestar pregnant so that she can carry on the clan without him. Weaselhill will probably be able to find Mintfoot once she's an adult and have a kit or two with him before he runs away. (I wanted to get a pic of Dusktail and Mintfoot together after I released them, but they ran as soon as they were free from all responsibilities of Clanship.) Needlestar and Weaselhill have their kits, Hollowshine and Mintbreath (seriously, that's what my generator named him. I guess he's got some pretty good breath.) Right before giving birth, Weaselhill decided she wants to find a wanderer and be mates with them. Technically Mintfoot is a wanderer, but he doesn't count. Lucklily, the small clan smells a wandering male who looks like he has derp snout and webbed hindlegs. Hollowshine is tiny, but she wants to dig a lot, just like her older sister. Mintbreath, meanwhile, wants to find a wnaderer and be mates with them, just like his mother and grandfather. Weaselhill eventually found the wanderer, named Thrushblaze, who wants to have a cosmetic gene in one of his mutation menu slots (he got Mask, btw), and... to kill a cat. Uh oh. Good thing nobody else knows... (At this point, I went and played Shelter 2 for the first time! It's really fun and so far my kittens are all alive) Unfortunately, Needlestar eventually passed away, but not before giving birth to Lavendermud, who was her last child of Adam's. Weaselhill became Weaselstar, with Thrushblaze as her deputy. Lavendermud wants to dig lots and lots and lots when she grows up! (Like most of her clan..) And then... we ran out of food. Thrushblaze starved that night, though the others had just enough food. Then Weaselstar gave birth to twins (father was Mintfoot), Grasssong and Seedcloud. Grassong wants to be the mate of an important cat (maybe Thrushblaze when he becomes leader?), and... Seedcloud wants to also be the mate of an important cat. Haha. Oh, and by the way, when Hollowshine grew up, she also decided she wanted to be around the ocean all the time, and Mintbreath wants to... oh, no, not again... gather a group of cats and leave the clan. Then, Lilyember was found by Mintbreath! Yay! She wants to have a strength gene in one of her mutation slots, and also collect lots of berries. Which is good, because Duskclan is really low on food. Lavendermud is now all grown up, and she wants to fall in love and run away with her mate. This clan really doesn't like to stay in the clan for long. And, oh, look at that! A male for Lavendermud to fall in love and run away with! Hi, Lionshine! He's so strong, he wants to have a strength gene in a mutation slot and to leave the clan and become a loner! Wait, what?? I thought you just joined the clan?? Lookie lookie. We now have two pairs of cats who are running away together! There's Mintbreath and Lilyember, and Lavendermud and Lionshine! Ooh, and now they have kits! (I hope pigeons gaze well...) What will happen next?? Find out next time in: DUSKCLAN 2- PART 2 Oh, and credit to @medicine cat for making up the challenge and inspiring me to make my own story! Also, sorry Part 1 is so long.3 points

This updated edition of my Warriorcats playthrough is going to be set on the Tiny Green Island in sandbox mode. I couldn't stay away... This edition is going to start with Tinystar and his mate, Lowwhisper. Tinystar is a nosy, family-oriented cat who is planning on starting a clan with his mate and having many kits. Lowwhisper is a cat of very few words, and when she does speak, it's usually hard to hear. They settle in on the island and have their first kit, Doebelly. She's a bit airheaded, so Tinystar is sure to train her diligently to be a tough fighter when she's caught off-guard. Soon, they have another kit- she is named Mosstoe, and though eccentric, she is a social butterfly, and is able to make everyone around her laugh. One day on patrol, Tinystar meets a young rogue female. She is blind and sickly, and is called Chestnut. She is beautiful, and Tinystar must admit that he does have an attraction to her. He meets her on clan borders and courts her, and soon they, too, have a kit. Tinystar dies before the kit is born due to old age, leaving Doebelly, now Doestar, to take over due to her mother's old age and incapability to be leader for long. Blind and in unfamiliar territory, Chestnut stumbles to a nest and has her kit. She is named Dappleleopard. Lowwhisper finds the two of them smack dab in the middle of their camp in the morning. There are no males in sight and she recognizes the stale scent of Tinystar on Chestnut. Enraged, she nearly kills the she-cat and chases her out of camp until she, too, drops dead of old age. Now alone, Mosstoe and Doestar are left alone to care for Dappleleopard. but how are two young she-cats to atone for the sins of their parents? Find out next time in... Tinyclan.2 points

Hey, I mean, he's the only derp snout in the tribe now, and his father looked just like him, and since Thrushblaze kiiiinda killed Seedcloud, they'd probably call him ugly (Lilyember was kinda only ever seen by Mintbreath, sooo).2 points

DUSKCLAN-PART 2 Once upon a time, we decided to continue the story. Thrushblaze became too old to continue as deputy (technically he's the same age as Weaselstar, but he took damage from starving that one night). Thus, he sent the message through Grasssong (now grown up) that Lavendermud is now deputy. Now that Grassong is grown up, she wants a cosmetic gene in her mutation menu; meanwhile, Seedcloud wants to be around the ocean. Also, Seedcloud and Hollowshine have fallen in love, despite them having the same exact immunity genes. Unfortunately, this was the moment Thrushblaze had been waiting for his whole life, and killed Seedcloud. (the whole clan knew what happened) Right then, poor Thrushblaze the Murderer passed away. His line carries on, though, as Weaselstar is pregnant with his only child. Lilyember also passed away. At the same time, a Bearyena showed up with it's baby. Ugh. Luckliy, the clan soon killed it and tamed it's cub. Weaselstar finally gave birth to Thrushblaze's child, Leapfoot. Unfortunately, he has a very ugly face (sorry, Leapfoot, but it's the truth), but he does have a beautiful pink coat. Now I'm gonna end Part 2 because I want to reply to Lilytuft. Heheh. (I also have to go to school, so i might as well post this thing now) Will Leapfoot be judged by his father's crimes? Find out next time in: DUSKCLAN 2-PART 3 (By the way, this is Duskclan 2 because I didn't like the first one)2 points

The only thing I can think of is the regular planet space not being a square grid, but a round one. With the planet (which could be hollow for all I care) in the middle, space around it, and a craft orbiting in the area delimited by the rays sprouting from the planet: Imagine that the game takes an arc between these rays as basic distance unit: the one closer to the planet is smaller, and going higher means the arcs become larger, as shown on this magnificent schema. In terms of coding, it means that a relatively precise number being used for the small arcs near the planet will also count the larger arcs above. If you have a double with the usual ~15 decimals for left-right movement around the lower parts of space, you will still have your ~15 decimals in the higher spheres, which might result in a lack of precision the higher you go. If a given altitude had arcs the size of e.g. one logic block, and another has arcs three times the width, you will require at least three times the precision to avoid rounding numbers and botching the calculations. Another problem might be the fact that movement happens every thirtieth of a second, and any calculation with rounded numbers adds to the global imprecision of the craft's position. In a bent grid such as the one I am imagining exists in game, it means that e.g. going up will require to constantly adjust the length of an arc (start at 3/5th of an arc, go up a little; you now are at 3.0001/5th of an arc), which might bring its share of rounding as said above, plus calculate movement based off rounded information 30 times a second. The imprecision might add up quickly. As for going down, I imagine that you gain in precision as you fly since the arcs grow smaller, thus the craft has less possible places to occupy. Perhaps. Maybe. This is honestly all fantasising. Still, I cannot see a simple way to make a round space and calculate coordinates on a square grid, and rounding numbers that should not be is... pretty renowned for having caused most notably the 501st flight of the Ariane 5 space launcher to blow up in the air (code repeatedly stuffed a 64 bits number into a 16 bits space, no problem). Let us ring the developer alarm to perhaps obtain some useful information, so as to divert them from their boring work as designers of a fantastic game. riiiiing2 points

Dappleleopard is getting along well in the clan. She is sweet and has a heart of gold. She is told that Mosstoe is her mother and that her father is some rogue. Doestar doesn't like the lie, but Mosstoe is happy to affirm it in order to keep the sanity of the young she-cat. On patrol, the clan finds a young albino male named Littlefang. He's desperate to prove himself as strong, and may have a touch of a tender heart once you get to know him. Littlefang finds himself attracted to Dappleleopard. They mate and have a kit, who they name Oathowl. Doestar dies, and Mosstoe is made leader, naming Dappleleopard as her deputy. Oathowl feels a connection to Starclan as she grows, and it seems that she is destined to be medicine cat. However, this is a blessing and a curse. Oathowl is visited in a dream by her grandmother, Chestnut. Chestnut orders for the truth to be revealed to Dappleleopard about what happened. Shakily, Oathowl approaches her mother, shakily telling her the story revealed to her in her dreams- Tinystar mating with Chestnut in secret, Chestnut being chased out, the adoption of Dappleleopard by Mossstar. Brokenhearted and enraged, Dappleleopard confronts Mossstar and demands why she was lied to. Mossstar answers honestly and says that she never meant to hurt her, and thought that she was protecting her. Dappleleopard insists that if Mossstar doesn't trust her with the truth, then she shouldn't trust her as deputy, and steps down from her position. Patrolling and looking for a new deputy, Mossstar stumbles upon a young apprentice-aged male, Stonepuff. She offers him a position in the clan, and he excitedly agrees. Later, he is named deputy. Though a bit irresponsible, he has a lot of energy, similar to Mossstar. Mossstar has lived many moons, and her death seems imminent. Oathowl, now a medicine cat and renamed Grainpurr, has instincts with these sort of things and comes to Mossstar's side to talk to her while the end looms over. She asks Mossstar if she ever regrets not having kits, and Mossstar simply looks at her with a smile. "I always had a kit," she said. "She's named Dappleleopard." Such a cheesy line only earns her a grumpy snort from Dappleleopard, but nevertheless it healed the wound between them. Mossstar dies and Stonestar takes her place. There seems to be peace in the clan, but how will Stonestar treat the clan as leader? May Starclan light his path..2 points

It's fine! I'm quite similar tbh. Anyways, thank you for showing your interest. Anyways, first thing's first, we should think of a plot. Maybe there are two tribes in the rp who are at war with each other, or maybe we're Adam's family trying to find home island again. Or maybe we're just simply a lone tribe trying to survive in this harsh world. Btw, If you like, you can go ahead and submit a nicheling you'd like to rp as here. I recommend using console commands to give them the genes you want.1 point

This is a great point, in fact, this could fix some of the problems with current logic in many ways. With this kind of feature, disconnection would be the logic splitter. In fact, with this as a base for new logic, some major changes could be made to allow for better logic. The assumption on how this would work is that anything on a decoupler, factory, or not attached to the main drone effectively has a logic splitter. Hmm... getting further into the subject of better logic makes me re-think what I've said. It makes a lot of sense for logic to not transmit when disconnected. I'm thinking of changing the suggestion to this, tell me what you think: -connectors and splitters are removed, but ther functions are still imitable -logic disconnects like energy, so anything attached to a decoupler, factory, or disconnected is automatically part of a different logic group -logic can be sent to other disconnected parts of the drone via logic transmitters and receivers -receivers each have their own number to identify them and send signals to the rest of the drone their on. The drone core has a built in receiver -transmitters can select which receiver they send signals to, and can be always on, on only when a key is pressed, switched on/off and can have a separate option of sending all signals from their drone or only one of them And that's it. I believe this wouldn't be too hard to implement, it would fix the problem with how drones communicate, while still letting drones function exactly how they do. As I said, what do you think? Should it work like this? Should I change the post to this? I feel this is a valuable discussion and changing the entire post's name and would be reckless.1 point
-
もしもし? I tried the drone you provided, @Lurkily. If I got that correct, with "twist" you mean that it slightly rotates the whole drone, not it "shakes uncontrollably"? I think there are two reasons for that. Either the position of the parts are not 100% symmetrical, but not because it's programmed wrong, but because of floating-point inaccuracies. This way, the position of a part might not be [0.000000,0.000000] but [-0.000001,0.000002]. This is easily testable (but I don't think this is the case) Another idea might be (maybe more likely) that the physics engine simply is not accurate enough. (if I remember correctly, everything in there is made with integer-calculations for speed reasons). So the small inaccuracies accumulate over time and cause these small rotations of the rigidbodies. [Edit] Micha just told me: The way we have placed the colliders and the pivot points of the rigidbodies there might be some inaccuracies (some things are placed by hand). We might have to check that again. So far we did not see it as a problem, because as soon as you hit something or you have some slightly moving parts, the effect on the movement/rotation is bigger than the pivot inaccuracies Do you have a drone which is impossible because of this or is it a theoretical discussion?1 point

Hmm not good! Did the game crash before you lost your save? Or did your pc shut down while the game was running? To modify the resources you can edit the savefile. Just open the Slot1.nSave with WinRar or 7Zip, then edit the Resources.xml and update the zip.1 point

I feel like starting a new file and sharing my progress with you guys. In this run, I will attempt to form Nichetopia. What's that? It's basically a Niche metropolis. A thriving society where food is plentiful, and it is populated with perfect beautiful nichelings. For this run I will need: 1) Over 2500 food 2) Over 150 nichelings 3) More than 70% of the nichelings are "pureblood" that means homozygous body genes (head, hand, tail, etc) 3a) Bonus points if they all have the same cosmetic traits as well (fur pattern, fur color, eye color, etc) I got close to these numbers before, but I just want to see if I can push my limit. How many nichelings can I really support without everyone going hungry and such. I'll try my best!1 point
-
OK so I've been playin for a while, and the nichelings have two islands occupied (I'm slow at expanding) This first island is where we started from. Somehow it has a lot of derp snouts. It just ended up that way. I think it's cool how we started with only 1 derp snout nicheling, but it obviously spread! That orange spikey body nicheling in the center is an outsider we welcomed in. He's been havin quite a few babies. You can see a few of his spikey body or cracker jawed children hanging close. This is the second island we have occupied. I only let the good children move on to the next island and have kids. That means they had to have good eyes, nimble fingers, ram horns, and at least 1 big ear gene. A few of the nichelings here have wings, that's because we let in an outsider with a wing. I'm trying to get nimble fingers back in. The nichelings here are much more cute. I'm only going to let children with big ears move on to the next island.1 point

Imagine a planet so polluted, so tainted by humanity’s carelessness, so ravaged and torn that we stopped trying to save a long time ago, a planet filled with trash and smog, where the ecosystem itself evolved to exist off the trash, imagine a scrapworld. Gateways open from across the galaxy dumping their trash in the millions of tons. Colossal machines built to compact and dispose of waste roam across the surface. The harsh buzz of an alarm sounds, and floating debris for miles around, are pulled towards their final destination as giant magnets pull them in. The the toxic materials disposed here leak and seep out of their containers, creating a noxious miasma that seeps across the surface of the planet. Malfunctioning machines haunt the surface, acting randomly and sparaticly. Strange scrap covered creatures rummage through it all, searching for waste to adorn their shells with. The inner workings of the planet tick in a clockwork inferno. Using geothermal reactions to incinerate the waste. The smoke of the machines rise up creating lovely cover for the scum of the galaxy. Pirates and scavengers rummage the surface for unwanted valuables. Long man-made tunnels stretch down into the planet, ended by large trash compactors. Such is the tragic fate of many planets. In normal words this means: Orbital debris giant magnets that suck you down if your not careful A smog that sometimes rolls through and obscures you vision giant trash compactors that can crush you rust big enemies with malfunctioning turrets on their backs malfuntioning turrets and transmitters pepper the surface rare portals open up that drop cosmetic scrap Giant WALL-Es roam across the surface (not sure what they do) pirates with magnet ships roam the planet(there like the training enemies) giant incinerators ship reckages rare easteregg where a scrapworld can be called earth.1 point

I also have isues with this. I assign CCW rotation thrusters to the "Tilted right" output . . . then the drone tilts right, and immediately turns itself upside down. Maybe if they were renamed 'tilted counter/clockwise' it might alleviate some confusion - clockwise requires no frame of reference. Or even use these unicode arrows: ⟲ ⟳1 point

So I just thought of an alternative that can avoid the problem of multiple beacons. Basically it would be a part or weapon upgrade/ammo that shoots out a beacon that sticks to whatever it hits, whether it be terrain, an object, or an enemy. Each time it is fired, the previous beacon is lost/destroyed. Maybe have it have outputs for if it is attached to enemies, terrain, ore, or something else and an input that causes it to self destruct or deactivate. I can see it being part of a setup where once stuck onto an ore deposit, automated drones will seek it out to gather resources until the ore around it is collected and it drops to some non-ore terrain, whereupon it gives an output that matches its deactivation input.1 point
