Fry it up first, then steam a tortilla, and toss it on a pan. Ingredients go on next; nicheling meat, cheese, whatever else you like; try salsa like pico de gallo and/or lettuce. Put another tortilla on top, let the melting cheese fuse the halves, then cut it into wedges like a pizza, and serve. Nicheling Tortilla. Sorry. I couldn't resist.2 points

this may have already been suggested, but just in case... maybe some seasons on niche islands? for instance: forest/meadow islands : maybe the four seasons? winter has maybe one snow or two, but not cold enough to hurt or freeze nichelings who prefer heat. maybe shortage of food. spring could have more rain and a surplus of food. summer could maybe be a drier, hotter season with food surplus, and fall could be a season with average food but also the common cold. maybe each season could last about 5-7 days? jungle / swamp : two seasons : a dry season and a wet season. Dry seasons would be regular weather, and then wet seasons would be almost perpetual rain, much like how they are in real life when a rainforest is in a wet season. each season would be about 10-14 days. tundra/icy islands : similar to the four seasons, but milder. spring and summer will have less snow, and fall and winter would be similar to how they are now. 10-14 day seasons. mixed islands, like grass adventure, could be similar to minecraft in a way, where whichever area you are in will determine what season you may endure.2 points

Well, I finished Junip's litter. Sparow collapsed out of hunger, with Swan falling right on him.. While they were still alive, I walked through that big wave/storm thing with Raven and Finch and then I heard what was kinda of like wolves (but it was in the area of my tree), and when I emerged, Finch was gone. I never saw him again. Thankfully, Raven was still with me. Then suddenly Swan came back to me and collapsed again, but this time I was able to find something for her. By this time, Sparow had died. Next generation! I hope you know why I chose those names. (At least SOMEONE should!) Also, Kilian is supposed to be with two 'l's, but I couldn't fit all the letters.2 points

You have to ask @ArnoJ what the white things are, I guess waypoints. Edge detection for sure, maybe we let the altimeter or directional sensor align themselves to the middle of the track. We have not started yet with this. It was just a first test of the spline tool to make tracks and to see how narrow or wide they have to be2 points

The thing with any language is to also have someone to practice speaking with as well. Back in high school I took German classes when I first started unfortunately the school quit offering it after a year. Then I took Chinese classes for two years. Unfortunately with no one to talk with in those languages I don't remember much anymore just a few words. I've recently wanted to try to revisit on of these just not sure which. My teachers always said you have to practice a lot, the more you speak it the better.2 points

For anyone still reading, the next chapter will have more action. -- Lakeclan wants to claim more territory. - And will find a new way to gain immunity. -- Tension is Hillclan, conflicts of motive and unsure leadership. -.Blizzardspirit spent too much time with a certain cat... --- A prophecy and revelation about their ancestors. --- Larger time skips. --- Hopefully, more diverse looking characters since the kinks have been bred out.2 points

By mission-completion 'points', I refer to the ticks on a planet that indicate how much it contributes to unlocking new pathways. I think these would provide a great source of progression 'points'. They don't mandate you take missions you don't like, but they also don't mandate that you take on challenging missions at a certain strength - you can go complete less challenging missions to open up your options and capabilities first. You can completely unlock a galaxy to gain progression in earlier galaxies, or just forge ahead. I think we need to get every block type on a tech tree used to unlock access to parts. Start the tech tree with the basic core, small thruster, small energy, small fuel tank, 1x1 armor, the if/not/button logic blocks, yellow ore containers and harvesters, and a basic blaster/laser. I think we also need to implement a part count limit to normal missions, and use this tree to unlock increases to the part count you can implement on a mission. Increasing part counts should get increasingly expensive, but they should never stop being available, in my opinion - there should be no limit to how big a player can go. Some parts it should be impossible to avoid progress in, specifically sensors or logic. It's unfair to ask a novice player to choose between unlocking XOR gates or an altimeter, and rocket launchers or armor blocks. It's simply not a fair choice to present until they know the use of those parts. At least some of these should be unlocked at the start, and a player should not have to sacrifice guns and thrusters to also unlock logic. (Maybe logic and sensors use the green resource exclusively, so their investment doesn't interfere with other investments.) We should consider requiring players to recover basic parts, too. For instance, recover and restore three blasters before you can equip three. This would provide an organic way to limit, but also expand specific capabilities. Parts should be relatively common, and there should be a way to seek specific types of parts, or even buy parts to fill out a particular part of your collection that might be weak. The goal isn't to hold a player back, but to provide free expansion as a reward and an accomplishment, instead of a default.1 point

So, we have seasons on snow mountains. Why shouldn't we have other islands with seasons? I present to you... The Seasons Island! Also, people who have had this idea before me, sorry for stealing it! I didn't find a topic about this. So this island has seasons that effect the ammount of food and the colour of grass, etc... Summer: Plants are green Grass regrows fast It's warm. Creatures get hot easily Rain is normal Prey is common Medium ammount of berries Nuts are raw so they're rare unless you have a creature in a tree Fall: Plants turn yellow, orange and red Grass regrows normal speed It's -1 cold Rains a lot Not as much prey A lot of berries A lot of nuts Winter: Plants lose their leaves and get snow on them Grass regrows really slow Weather is cold It snows every few days Prey is uncommon and rabbils are hard to spot Berries regrow slow Some nuts Spring: Plats are light green. Ground is covered with flowers Grass regrows fast Weather is a bit warm but creatures don't get hot easily Rain is normal Prey is very common and baby bearyenas are very common Some berries Almost no nuts1 point

Niche is all about adapting and thriving in your environment, as your nichelings evolve to fit the island you live in. However, once you are fully adapted to an island, you have to move on or nothing new will happen. In real life, species often evolve to keep up with other species. What I mean is that it would be really cool if there was the option to make the other species in the islands adapt too. It would make your time in the island much more entertaining and challenging. With this mode turned on, other animals have a chance of randomly mutating an extra stat, like a bunny with extra speed, bad eyesight, defense or more collecting. If depending on how well and how long this animal survives, it has a better or worse chance of "breeding". If it succeeds, other members of its kind will spawn with that extra stat, and over time, the stats that get passed on may completely change the species. For example, you could end up with a plague of faster, smarter bunnies with more defense, or a ridiculously overpowered bear with maximum speed. But you could also try to manipulate the populations, for example, killing bunnies with good stats and keeping ones with bad stats, eventually creating a population of blind, easy to catch bunnies. Maybe, cosmetic and behavioral mutations could also be added, like the chance for a dodomingo to be black or pink or an ape that does not like to attack nichelings. This would definitely make each island you visit more interesting, and more realistic!1 point

I am extremely thankful to Stray Fawn Studio for adding in the feature for factories to not start as printed, but one thing I feel should be changed is that currently, if a factory prints a second factory, and the second factory is set to not start printed, the first factory's delay will still be affected by the parts attached to the second factory. It would make sense for a factory's delay to only be affected by the parts it is actually printing, and maybe only have its delay slightly differed by printing factories that do not start printed.1 point

I respond to writing prompts a lot. So I thought I might share here some of what I've produced. It's mostly very short fiction; less than a chapter of reading. The prompt that inspired this story was "A bank robber takes off his ski mask and hails a cab, stowing his pistol in his back pocket. Suddenly, lights begin to flash around him. 'Welcome to the Cash Cab!' " Believe in me I stepped out of the lights and music of the Cash Cab, four hundred dollars richer. The frigid rain spat down at me, and the wind tried to throw my hair into my face. Shame and self-loathing were furrowing my brow and tying a knot in my stomach. I felt like I was going to be physically sick. I had never been so ashamed of myself. I took out my phone to make a call and stopped for a second to look at the screen. My little girl looked back from the wallpaper, grinning brightly. She thought I was a hero. She loved her daddy. Four hundred dollars. I could make rent. I’d be able to pay for her pills. I might have a few bucks left over for groceries. The briefcase in my hand, though, held over six thousand dollars. Several solid months of financial freedom. Time enough to find opportunity. Maybe even a job. Maybe a future. After a minute of chasing those thoughts in circles, the phone’s screen winked out. That was what did it. Her adoring gaze, her shining admiration of her hero disappearing while I contemplated what I could spend it on. It wasn’t much, but the metaphor broke my spirit in a heartbeat. I left the briefcase near the door of the bank. A suspicious man left a suitcase by a public thoroughfare. He had some wires in his pocket, he was acting nervous, maybe it was a bomb. Lies. But I watched from across the street until they got their money back. I turned to walk to the bus stop . . . I was done with cabs tonight. I wrapped the gun into the ski mask, dropping them into a trash can. Then my phone rang. My daughter’s face was shining at me again, blinding in the darkness. I lifted the phone to my ear, feeling like my very soul dodged a bullet. “Hey, pumpkin. Yeah, I’m on my way. I got held up. Yeah, macaroni and cheese, I promise. Hey. I love you. I’ll be home soon.”1 point

It's a cute idea, I just don't know how it would work in some biomes. (I.e. Long Winter where it's always freezing) But, to be fair, I'd love to see my favorite season-- autumn-- be implemented in Niche!1 point

Get every part into the workshop, such as weapons are, to broaden resource investment into more areas, and extend the appeal of harvesting and customization. I recognize that weapons are inherently different from other parts - but the weapon workshop is fun, and I believe this will pay off in player engagement, and just plain fun. Everybody wants upgrades or modifications to the way all sorts of things work. We want drills that can harvest resources instead of destroying them, we want TNT that has a small AOE, or that applies elemental effects instead of damage, or that pushes instead of damages. We want decouplers that apply force or self-destruct, (Explosive decouplers), distance sensors to detect in an arc and blast shields and blah blah blah. Rather than new parts or new settings, all of these things are prime candidates for additions via upgrade/downgrades. With regards to the UI, weapons and other items both shouldn't be duplicated in the UI; instead, when you click on the basic blaster or any customizable block, you should pop up a list window on the UI displaying all the customized versions you've built. Since they all look so similar, they should also display the name you assigned to them. From what I understand of weapons and upgrades, this is a big ask because weapons are fundamentally different from most blocks. But I think this can contribute a lot to progression, the offering of strategic choices, and fun.1 point

One very, very important thing: In story mode, I once had the option to travel to crossing from whale island, directly! Total time required to get home? 2 hours. And that probably because I like to spend time on some islands... Other times, I often got into the infamous island loop, which prevents a northern port from spawning, no matter how often you go left or right. Better watch out for either complication. I am not risking the loop again.1 point

I'll move this thread to the suggestions forum if that is alright with you. So other people can vote on it I think triangle shapes would be useful, in this case maybe even just for simple stability, or maybe in the future for making a more slick shape so if you bump into a wall with high velocity (and flat angle), not everything rips apart1 point

I like center and edge detection, especially via altimeter (or range, as it may or may not become, with more criteria). Waypoints have the potential to be badly designed or become a mandatory sensor consideration if you want to win, so perhaps that wasn't my best idea. What about a "rabbit"? Dog races ran a rabbit along the track so they would chase it, right? Maybe run a directional target along the center line, always staying ahead of you.1 point

Even better, as the parts fade in one-by-one, give each a tiny repel effect so that the factory spawning items in other items space (and the physics engine heart attack that ensues) would be less common.1 point

Ah yes, I do have similar ore carriers. I see the point now, but I am still unsure that poofing parts out of existence is something I want in the game. To be honest, I am a bit uneasy about how the factory insta-summons parts. The sudden appearance sort of breaks my suspension of disbelief, if you will. Not to get too off the course of the thread here, but I would be happier if the factory summoned it's child parts one at a time until completion, or even phased them in from 100% transparent to 0% transparent one-by-one. This would prevent the factory from being able to "bank" a whole sub-assembly for instant summons, and could be a suitable nerf without even having to change the part conjuring rate from one a second.1 point

I like other solutions for this currently; engineering solutions instead of game solutions. TNT that is configurable - for instance, to set fires in a small radius, to fully self-destruct sections. (A heater leaves behind a heater, immune to fire, though if it is a child of a destroyed part, it will still be debris.) Also remember, if you manage to destroy one part, ALL children become debris, so creative self-destruct solutions only have to ensure destruction of that part.1 point

As a jungle gene, adding speed in that eviroment would be useful. As it is, you have to clear certain tiles to move a nicheling on them. Velvet paw could forego that, allowing free movement through the underbrush. In Cold Biomes, it could allow you to walk on Snow. 1 tile for one velvet paw, 3 for a full set.1 point

I think 2 is a little overpowered, maybe 1 tile for one paw and 3 tiles for a set?1 point

She hates him. This charming, handsome brutish warrior. Most of all, Spottedsongs big, blue eyes that the Queen eyes her with daily Hornetstar and dying, suspicious elders she could deal with. But not Blizzardspirit's wish to train his daughter. Blossomkit, named after the rain on the first day of Summer. One may say many things about Hornetstar, but he was always supportive of his children -- and grandchildren. As a leader should be. ... Paleskip would be the next in line by her Clans standards. A beautiful and wise Queen, devoted and solemn. She is surprised to learn that he made Geysirblow deputy. Very reluctlantly, as she is his daughter. His daughter. --- Lakeclan has changed so much. She had avoided the last two gatherings out of homesickness, but with Blossompaw in training and Hornetstar dead, it is time to leave. No one would know that she had taken a fancy to Oakshade. -- For a few weeks, at least.1 point

I think this island would be really cool if it were really big and had no ports. Of course it'd be a sort of challenge mode that you can't access from regular sandbox mode islands.1 point

Hi folks! Last week, @ArnoJ and me went to Game Connection in Paris. The main reason was to attend the award ceremony because Nimbatus was a nominee. Unfortunately, our train got stuck and we missed the whole ceremony! (We didn't win anyways so it wasn't a big problem xD) On the first day, we mostly walked around and talked to other exhibitors. There was a pretty fancy apéro too. Santé! #BestSelfieEver Back at the airbnb Arno and me played "Random Anime" It works like this: First Arno picked a letter, then me, then Arno again. And we had to watch one episode of whatever anime was the result of that. On the second day, we had lots of meetings, mostly with other devs to exchange marketing strategies. We got a free booth because we were a nominee which was neat In the evening we also went to a restaurant and ate Korean BBQ with some other devs / friends. The last day was the best! We had lots of free time and walked around Paris Games Week. And in the afternoon we went shopping ❤️ Aka we went to check out comics in 6 different shops And also did some sightseeing (but only if the things to see where in between comic shops xDD) The event was cool! We'd definitely like to go again The travelling is continuing though as I will be heading to Lithuania this Friday!1 point

I just end up deleting saves and playing different ones. I'll suddenly have tons of fun with one tribe, then just as suddenly lose interest. Well, its time to reveal my theory! Lilytuft, and the others, you have great speculative abilities! I believe it was the ancient dodomingos! Thanks to their beaks and great architecture skills, the dodomingos were able to build nests that could last forever. Now, dodomingos can no longer be seen building them because their ancestors already did it for them, and because they fear the nichelings will find out. Once the dodomingos built nests on every island, but something wiped out many of them. Many nichelings think that ancient nichelings built these nests, but that is just a lie the dodomingos invented to avoid being turned into nest building slaves for the nichelings!1 point
