@Snowy Owl I don't know yet Will have to figure that out soon. But I think we'll probably need wanderers to live for as long as your tribe members. Rogue Males could have a shorter life span though. @wolfhowlmay That or maybe we can add an adjustable damage modifier in the sandbox settings. So you could receive let's say 5 damage points when you usually would only get 1 damage. That would also be an interesting setting to make the game harder in general. Maybe even with settings for different types of damage? So you could deal hunger deal you 10 damage but only 2 from a cactus for example.7 points

Featherclaw roamed the island, unknowing what fate had provided for him. While collecting and clearing away all the grasses, he happens upon a beautiful mate. She calls herself Milkyfeather, and they start to form a clan together. (pic 1) Soon, they have their first daughter, Sunjaw. (pic 2) Now leader, Milkystar is slightly disapointed her daughter doesn't have the poison fangs like Featherclaw. But, it's fine with them, as she can crack open clams. The two parents then decide a tiny island isn't the best for a clan, and move. They then have their first set of twins. Both are girls, once again. they name them Dropletblossom and Greyfur. Dropletblossom quickly becomes the favorite of the clan, since her beautiful pattern is bedazzling. After many days of exploring, they find a wanderer. Not male, as they wish for, but she does have good genetics. She calls herself Oakfur. (pic 3). Then, in hope of a male, they have another set of twins! but, once again, they both are girls. (pic 4 ) They are both gifted with the names Peachtail and Flowerspike . The two then start to get worried. None of their offspring are males or actively show the poison fangs. They are also starting to get quite old. They have two days left, and they have a boy! He is given the name Windclaw. (pic 5) Then, while they can still have one last child, they have ANOTHER set of female twins! (pic 6). these little ones are called Sharpwind and Petalears. However, their sorrow is quickly taken care of, as they find a permanent nest. Another issue then befalls them: Who will be leader? I will post the canidates for leader next, and be sure to tell me who you want to vote for!4 points

I think the adjustable damage one sounds great I would love to be able to make predators hit a lot harder, but not necesarrily have them have a lot of armor3 points

I created a save consisting of impossible-to-kill nichelings, to help me study the behavior of Bearyenas (which nichelings theyll attack before others based off of looks.) Here are some pictures i took: Are there things youve noticed about Bearyenas that could help with my research? Noticed anything about other predators? Please comment, and ill update my research!2 points

I have this bad habit of starting a run and then never finishing because I can never decide exactly how to pick mutations. Right now Iβm leaning toward each clan in a tribe (defined by the number of permanent nests) having a different pair of mutations, but Iβm still not sure. Complete randomization can give really cool and unexpected results, too. How do you guys go about setting your Nichelingsβ mutations? Do you pick randomly? Do you pick them with the intent to breed out a given trait? Do you just pick what you like? Or is the caffeine in my tea just making me overthink it all?2 points

thank you! I didnt know about the hibernation thing, and its good to know about the locking thing. Ill do some tests on these things to see if i can use them in actual saves to avoid predators.2 points

Oh YES! A partner in science! According to my research after watching various gameplays, I have come to the conclusion that bearyenas have a tendency to lock on to specific nichelings, only rarely switching targets unless they find a bunny. As a side note, I noticed that balance bears seem to enter hybernation once they are covered by snow, as they wont even budge. Another thing is that smelling apes seem to prefer smelly fruit over meat.2 points

Unsure if this has been mentioned yet, but I would like to put in my ideas of what could possibly be added to the underwater world. The Underwater World is super barren right now, only being able to find seaweed, clams, rocks, fish, worms, and leeches. I have a few ideas of things that could be added to make this world much more lively. ISLANDS Basically, there'd be islands with a ton more water and lots more places to swim compared to your average big island. The island would be small, maybe the size of tiny green, while the rest of the island would be places that can be swam through by Nichelings. Take the grass mingle island for example, cut that to the size of tiny green but leave all that extra island space to the water. Picture example: PREDATORS I know that the Razorina is already somewhat of a predator, but they only attack you if you are bleeding. How about, for somewhat of a challenge, have a predator like the Bearyna that will attack you for no other purpose than food. It would have similar behavior like the Bearyna but obviously be different. This creature's name would be the Sharkidile, a cross between a shark and a crocodile. You could also find a mother with a baby and tame the baby for its genes, just like the Bearyna! Here's a picture of what I think it would look like, sorry it's kinda sloppy I rushed it: Genes you could get from a friendly Sharkidile: - Sharkidile Snout (2+ fishing, 1+ defense, 1+ smelling) - Water body (2+ swimming, 1+ scentless, underwater breathing) - Fin tail (2+ swimming, -1 Cold resistance) - Sharkidile Claw (2+ fishing, 1+ attack, 1+ swimming) - Sharkidile Eyes (2+ underwater sight, 1+ dry land sight) - Yellow Eyes - New Pattern (Overcoat color and undercoat color, affects camouflage in water, +2 camouflage) FOOD Definitely a lot more food needs to be added. More types of fish and things similar to the berry bushes on land. Examples in pics below: I'm still currently in the process of thinking of things that could be added to the underwater world of Niche. If I do get more ideas, then be sure to look for for a part 2 to this idea! Please feel free to suggest anything.1 point

I'm sure some of these have been suggested before, but I honestly didn't want to go digging for them. So enjoy my knockoff versions! Exactly. It's challenging in design but not in gameplay, and design is tedious when its just tacking on thrusters. It might be more interesting later, when we have limited resources for parts, or a part limit, and we have to redesign more fully to be functional. I know that if I have a 20-30 part limit, I'd have a whole damn roster of drones. I still think merely slowing things down isn't the most interesting way to address it, though. I think winds and gusts, with updrafts, downdrafts, and tornados that scale up in force with air resistance would be the kind of thing you could struggle with and fight, and maybe even ride to your advantage, if you're smart. (I'll post a detailed set of feature requests soon. Ideas are happening.)1 point

Given the bug repellent, I'm venturing a guess that the autocompleter and the 'something else' were also whimsical.1 point

This would be amazing. For me, I often find that after 200-400 day I get a bit bored, as i have usually visited most of the islands. This would be a nice challenge to add to the game if its getting boring. And I really like the idea of manipulating the species through a sort of 'Natural selection'.1 point

The poll's closed and Fruitseeker will be the new leader (once Lilystar passes). And with her new title, Fruitseeker will have her name changed to Fruitstar.1 point

I guess my worry is that these propeller suggestions are a symptom of high air resistance just no being fun. Everybody seems to want a way to negate it. My feeling is that wind and weather might be more fun, contentious, and interactive than just high air resistance. After all, more wind, more weather, right? I don't actually mind having the capacity to build a massive drone that can do anything, but it should be an endgame project, enforced by progression mechanics.1 point

@Philo question: with the sandbox customisation of the age revealed. what happens if you make one of your creatures a wanderer. but both the wanderers and your nichelings have different age amounts, will they keep the age they had in the tribe? or will they get the one set for wanderers? it also works the other way around, what happens if you invite a wanderer? A. nothing, they keep the age, or B. will it change?1 point

I guess Im the only one not interested in autonomous racing :p My first choice was PVE arena, my second choice was soccer. I figure something similar to rocket league :p1 point

Hammerheads hit with sticky grenades will sometimes start wiggling around like crazy. Which is very much to my taste, but perhaps not exactly intended. If I were to guess, it has to do with unstable construction and grenades having a weight of their own. Weigh an unstable drone down with a few boulders and you will see what I mean! Though the connections of these aliens feature a sturdiness leagues above my crafts' struts. Shameless stealing of alien technology when?1 point

Though I dearly want to know too, I agree with this. Development always takes longer than it takes, and I've worked in communities before where they soured the community by missing deadlines that they imposed themselves.1 point

Just a little idea here, but maybe more vibrant, exotic manes could contribute to a male's attractiveness, just like the peacock tails currently do?1 point
