  1. I think the main issue is that people expect too much from the game developers. There are some ideas that may prove too difficult and time consuming, especially where they are trying to put more focus into their other works. Though I think its a great thing that this community has a bounty of ideas for future updates, its not fair to the people who have put so much work into the game to say you're quitting because they wont implement the one thing you wanted. I understand completely being frustrated and no longer playing the game if it no longer interests you, but I feel like there's no need to act like its the game developers fault that what's currently in the game isn't holding your attention. Sorry for the rant, I've just been playing this game for so long and seen how much the makers have put into it that it hurts me to see people saying that it's not enough. No harsh feelings meant here, just something I wanted to get off my chest. Feel free to respond if you feel differently.

  3. This one was a little grittier than usual. It's a bit of a contrast with other works. No fantasy, no sci-fi, and more about what's unexpected in their personality, rather than what's interesting about them. This is around the time I began seeking photos for every story, as I noticed stories with a photo got more notice from people searching WordPress for things to read. This photo was not paired with the prompt. It's surprisingly hard to find a photo of a rifle paired with a photo of hard liquor, especially on wood like that of a bar, that isn't ruined by something like a roll of $100's or a stack of joints. Written to the prompt: "A photographer and a sniper meet in a bar. Neither is aware of the other’s occupation. They talk about 'how to take the perfect shot'." Photographer’s Spirit, Sniper’s Soul I looked at the mirror across the bar and surveyed the damage. The youthful man looking back at me was a mess. My hair was full of dust; from the explosions, from the powdered concrete of ruined buildings, and from the ever-present road dust. You couldn’t escape it. The caked mud on my face was where the dust in the air had mixed with a bloody scrape. I sipped at the beer in my hands – the first I had found in a week – and sighed, savoring this respite from the chaos. My companion was a more grizzled man. He looked like he was used to conflict. His hair was cropped shorter than mine, a week of beard went unnoticed by any razor, and a jagged, torn scar snaked along the line of his jaw like a disfiguring rope. “You’re new to this, ain’tcha?” “It’s my first time ‘in it.’ I took some fantastic shots, but . . . it’s chaos out here. This country is a wreck.” He smiled, putting an empty glass down, and the bartender refilled it with an amber liquid that smelled like kerosene. “Y’get used to it. Learn to function in chaos, or go home. Got some good shots myself. See that bell tower up there?” He pointed through the window – a church steeple was visible from a few blocks away. The top of it had been destroyed, leaving only a broken wall, and the crumbling stub of a staircase. “Before they secured the city, got some of the best shots of my life up there.” I turned back to my beer and sipped, sighing. “Must be nice. All that elevation, just you and the wind.” “Forty-x magnification. You could see the whites of their eyes.” I imagined it – the wind on your face, able to look down into the crowd, picking out individuals without worrying about them seeing you and changing their behavior, ruining a careful shot. You could practically read their mind if you could see their expression. “That’s serious magnification. It’s always best when they’re unaware. You can anticipate the moment, frame your shot two steps ahead.” He gestured with the cup, pointing past it at me. “You know how it is. You pick your place, and you look for your shot. Sometimes you don’t get a thing, sometimes you just get the one perfect shot, and sometimes everything you do is golden.” I nodded, knowing the feeling. “The day before yesterday, I was attached to some local forces guarding the west road. No visibility at all, just blown dust. Yesterday, though, the wind was up, it cleared the dust, and I was death itself.” I picked up my rifle and rested the forestock against my shoulder. I let my hand drift over the scope. I had too much respect for the scope’s alignment to touch it; instead, I caressed the air millimeters from the glass and metal. His brow furrowed, shock and horror creeping into his eyes. “You’re . . . talking about killing people.” Confused, I looked up to meet his gaze. “. . . what are you talking about?”

  5. Thank you! I've been posting all my short fiction, bit by bit, over here. I had quite a lot of fun with some of it. "Storytime" prefixes all my submissions like this, so you could easily search them if you want more. We're catching up with the current day, though. I have fifty or sixty bits of short fiction bouncing around, but have been limiting my posting here to the stuff I feel the best about. How many cats do you have?

  6. In this one, there is a fairly obvious idea of who should be who that I turn on its head. The sniper has the youth, the unfamiliarity with chaos, even the artistic mind. I think if I were ambiguous, the reader would just conclude that they knew the answer, and it was a dull story. I could be more ambiguous about which is which, but I'm a big fan of internal contradictions in a character, and I feel like those contradictions couldn't be as interesting if I left the question open - mystery and confusion are never far apart. Do you still disagree? I'm open to trying a rewrite of this with a different goal, if you have a different imagining of the story.

  8. Young Puck has gone exploring in hopes that he will find a mate. So far only Dodomingos have been found. The Twins have a baby brother. His name is Dasher. Now no mare babies till we get some food. Gross, A rouge male. And its Dancers last day. She will have one more baby. What a pretty little girl. Her name is Prancer and she will be the next Matriarch. The tribe size goes down to 10. Thats ok, we are only at 8 right now. The twins are finally of age to have babies. They mate with Hockey. Hockey Is given Good Eyes from the Whims and Nimble Fingers from me. Vixen is given Black Fur from the Whims and Nimble Fingers from me. Cupid is given Chesnut Brown fur from the Whims and you guessed it Nimble Fingers from me. I need those nimble fingers. Cant wait to see how their babies turn out.

  10. Hmmmmm. Weird to think about. Why would I want to be someone whose goals and desires aren't mine? If I had to pick someone else's circumstances to be born into . . . Stephen King. A writer from a legacy of writers, whose writing was encouraged and read and critiqued by his family every day, who came to adulthood in an era where the field of authorship wasn't oversaturated and when publishers could often be relied on to look out for an author's interests. What BRAND of gingerale(Or ginger beer)? For me, Schwepps or Seargrams for Gingerale, Goya or Q for ginger beer.

  12. So, a while ago (like, months) I had a voting for whether Strong Bear or Stronger Bear. So, now I'm going to do another poll, this time for their descendants! (Bearyena Ears are still running in the family with only a little help from me ) I'm doing this a lot like the other poll! Luna Mother: Kaitlyn, granddaughter of my beloved Lisabet (Which i pronouce Lee-suh-bet, because I don't care what other people say), who was really strong. ) (shown in pic) Father: The only son of a webbed-hindlegged Rogue male and my sickly, cracker jaw, tailfin female. (shown in pic) Muations: Nimble Fingers and Peacock Tail. Sol Mother: Barre (pronounced 'bear'), the only daughter of Lenka, my previous leader, who had tailfin. Her father was a sickly creature named Alexan, who was quite strong, and had pretty red-pink stripes on his back. (shown in pic) Father: Blaze, a Purr-snouted (which hasn't showed up in a long time) male with antennae. His sister is mates with Barre's brother. (the poison-fanged guy in the background) (their first child is shown in the pic with the short snout, while their second was just born and is sickly (or, as I usually call it, has the sneezles. I know, it's weird, but that's what is say, okay?).) (shown in pic) Mutations: Purr snout and Peacock Tail (I reealllly want it back in the tribe). Now, go pick who should be the new leader of my tribe!

  13. I've posted a lot of suggestions to make our creations more dynamic, responsive, to intelligently respond and adapt to a player's intentions. I wanted to put up a post about what they look like in a coherent picture. First, the basics. I think logic should be local. That is to say, parts should require a connection to see a signal. Even the lack of such a connection is information that can be of great value to an engineer, activating a missile's flight or indicating to the brain that something critical is destroyed, and I think wireless logic with wireless connectors present is a meaningless 'gimme' that circumvents a logistical problem that could be quite rewarding to overcome via design. Speaking of connectors; I think wireless connectors should go to a pair of units, transmitter and receiver, each with the option for a whitelist or blacklist of signals that are permitted or forbidden. Receivers should act like a simple button, relaying signals that pass their whitelist/blacklist. Connectors currently block signals, but with control over the direction signals travel and the type of signals traveling, I don't think that separation is necessary. Sensors. I would like sensors to have ranges that can be added. A directional sensor might have one range and one tolerance, or five ranges and no tolerances, and it shouldn't have to be filled sideways to adjust the tolerance. Instead, add and adjust ranges as you see fit, and anything you don't set is a tolerance. Self awareness is a big thing. Trackers will help a lot, if sensors can seek a specific tracker, not the nearest or average center. Things like a GPS setting for the directional sensor (your current rotation around the planet, with Nimbatus being 0/360) would also help. Awareness in general will also help. My complex creations often stumble on simple things like not being able to position themselves well, hooking on terrain that slips through sensor fans, unexpected input leaving hinges in unexpected positions, etc. The previous adjustable ranges will help. I think permitting detector sensors to have even a narrow angle, so they're a fan instead of a line, would help with sensor criteria 'dodging' sensors. More criteria for sensors to operate on will also help. Altitude should be a general purpose distance sensor, with units that aren't changed by planet size. Instead, when used for altitude, they should have the option to have a specific starting value. (Altitude of the core, surface, hopper, Nimbatus level, and whatever in between marks are appropriate. ) It should be able to measure distance to any sensor criteria that makes sense. Dynamic sensor control. Sensors can be as powerful as a keyboard in controlling complex behaviors. I'd like to see the ability to adjust the range of a sensor dynamically, the same way dynamic thrusters can be adjusted. That way, fine dynamic control can be achieved without math parts, without dozens of ranges, without tons of logic. Processors. Think of them as a box that can contain a few logic parts. My opinion is that every 1x1 footprint of a processor should contain a 2x2 footprint of sensors or logic. This means you could use them to put very compact directional sensors on a hinge, or put a whole raft of complex logic in a larger processor. The reason is twofold. Obviously, it makes streamlined construction easier. But it also reduces part count for logic. Sumo is far too dependent on brute force - smart drones are weaker drones. I'd like to see that mitigated to reward intelligent design and intelligent done behavior more in asynchronous multiplayer. By limiting the available size of professors, or by damaging the parts it contains when the processor is damaged, you also aren't totally eliminating the threat posed by logic damage. In the end, this will provide wired logic as a challenge, with a simple transmission system to overcome it that is intuitive, and treats all signals the same, while still providing exacting control. It will provide dynamic, precise behaviors without requiring math. It grants a player more awareness to tune complex behaviors by as they cruise around, as well as granting awareness of your own drone's behavior via trackers. It rewards intelligent design in sumo and any part restricted game mode, without limiting the vulnerability of logic.

  14. That's exciting. What are you most excited about? What do you want to be added the most? Me? Like, new genes are cool and all... But what I really want are quality of life updates. Things like more specific notifications, telling you which gene you unlocked. Better explanations telling what genes do what. I was really confused with peacock tail and purr snout when I first started. The ability to tell which islands you've already visited. Children inheriting their gemstone colors, so you don't have to change them every time they grow up one stage.

  15. Roduk falls for Rerera. The two of them have Kokora. She's a bashful and quiet girl, and has her quirks. Duknu joins the tribe. He is gentle, hasty, and bashful. When Roduk dies, Duknu mates with Rerera. They have Dukdukro. Though bold and hasty, he is careful when it comes to protecting the ones he loves.

  16. On the new island, Adam and Eve decide to have a new baby. Forth comes Rerera. She is bashful and a bit naive, but hardy and does not give up. Shortly after her birth, Adam dies of old age. Eve knows that her time is coming, too, and she orders her two elder children three things; one, Komeko is to care for Rerera and raise her as her own. Two, Vannu is to take over the tribe in Adam's place. Three, at least one of them needs to find a mate. With that, she peacefully dies in her sleep. Vannu cannot help but be anxious. What shall he do without his father and mother? A wanderer male, Roro, enters the tribe. Begrudgingly, Vannu lets him into the clan. Though quirky and rash, Roro is a relaxed nicheling, and Komeko takes interest in him. Soon, Lalare joins the tribe. Though Hardy, she can be rather wicked. Vannu dies. Rerera takes his place, after some debating as to who should follow in his pawsteps. Soon enough, the clan is joined by a handsome young male by the name of Roduk. He is hasty, brave, and a bit sarcastic. Who will he fall for?

  17. No, I do agree that the danger lies in expectations. If it hadn't been the by far most voted for suggestion, I'd probably just have dismissed the idea that it could ever be implemented. However, another part that was deemed too much work did get a part in the update. Feedback is necessary, and since 'offline' players are in the minority here, it felt important enough to at least add one comment, as others likely won't. It's an unpopular opinion. I get that. But I'm not frustrated, or even angry. Just disappointed that a sandbox update won't add much box to the sand, and likely never will. It's something that would have added more replayability, as it offers new paths in story potential. But you know that anyway. It's about what one values more highly, and in a very, very subjective way, niche could have needed that. Instead, options were chosen that speed up the time required to get a nice set up. That's great in its own way, but not necessarily the essence of a sandbox to some. As mentioned, I would have left anyway. A good argument is then, that I hardly have reason to claim it would add too much life. Or even that prolonging replayability isn't completly optimal, as people will hardly buy the game twice for it. These are completely valid viewpoints. But this isn't about one feature, but the direction the update will be headed in, easing set up vs. custom maps. Adding input about the potential of either is necessary, but subjective. As you know, in the end, it comes down to what is feasible and what was prefered. Option 2 did get quite some votes. It can't be ignored, though I doubt commenting on the issue will change anything, nor should it by default. Making clear beforehand what can be expected, or at least the preference of direction, might be beneficial to future updates, should there be some (the game is already amazing as it is) or rather, paid Add Ons, if there is interest. Voting for Add Ons and their direction in particular might increase sales. A few players like myself hardly matter. However, feedback should be voiced when it comes to major steps in the direction of the game, even if it is expected to be ignored. Maybe someone else thought of something alike. Maybe it has zero merit and will be drowned in a sea of opinions. Only one way to find out.

  19. So, waaaay later, the tribe moved to a new island, Luna and Willowfeather (Luna's younger sister) had kids with Sol, and Willowfeather had a frog legged son (with a different creature who didn't make it to the new island) so Luna probably had webbed hindlegs too. But eventually Sol and Luna died and the day before a reincarnation of Emmai was born (along with a twin brother named Finn), so she became the leader (no reason for a poll if a goddess has been reincarnated, you know?). On Emmai's second to last day, she had a baby with a wanderer who ahd beak, but the son has frog legs (I named him Firefrog because he's orange). Emmai's nieces (twin nieces) had kids with a Purr-Snout guy with a wing (his name was Kit Kat) who was a grandchild of Willowfeather and Sol. Lectic and Star (the twin nieces) had a son each; Star's child look like a bat, and thus named Bat (poison fangs, gray, one wing); Lectic (who can only fish and attack, due to her claw and mutated webbed paw) had a beautiful son with purr snout, golden fur with white stripes, golden eyes, peacock tail, and best of all DOUBLE WINGS YESSSS. I named him Featherwillow, since he inherited the wings (well, I guess just one) from Willowfeather, who had one wing. Anyways, Emmai went back to the place where gods and goddesses of Niche hang out, and Featherwillow is the new leader AND HE CAN ONLY HAVE FOUR CREATURES ASDFGHJKL NO Anyways I release Firefrog and Bat because Firefrog has webbed hindlegs and Bat can't do pretty much anything. Star is also released, but Lectic is kept so she can have her final child of Kit Kat's. Also, the day Emmai died Star had a kid of Kit Kats' who she named Kit Kat II. Now Kit Kat II found a sick wanderer female with webbed hindlegs named Isme who is the Protector of Rabbils and she's become Kit Kat II's mate. I set her mutations and ASDFGHJKL she got WEBBED PAW URGH this tribe was cursed two times before with the mutation of Webbed Paw and it's been cursed AGAIN. And oops I forgot she was kit Kat II's mate and not Featherwillow's so they're having a kid. annd WHAT'S THIS? A red spiky body female? YOU SHALL BE MINE sorry Isme. So the female, Crismon, has a kid named Henrietta (Featherwillow's son, whose mother was Isme, had to be released), but then the next day a Bearyena appears next to Henrietta (Crimson was a few tiles away with Featherwillow), so Featherwillow and Crismson atatck it but it lives through the night and attacks Crismon, giving her one day to live, so she and Featherwillow have one last child and Crismson dies. The baby turns out to be a dark red sick boi named Bloodred. Featherwillow flies quickly over to his tree and sees Fishy (his son), and Cream (his brother), with Bat and Firefrog in the distance. Anyways, Henrietta grows up, Bloodred is released, and Henrietta and Kit Kat II have a child with Cracker Jaw, and Bearyena Ears returns on himaswell. Also, looks like I'm gonna be recording everything that happens in this tribe. I name the child Lisabert, after one of my favorite creatures from the tribe, whose name was Lisabet, and was gray with pink spots and cracker jaw and Bearyena Ears just like Lisabert. Also, sometimes in this tribe I take a screenshot of a creature I like, but I don't look at it until generations and generations later, and I did this with Lisabet. Also WOAH this picture helps me so much because Berri was alive at the time and I can just make out who her parents were! also, I guess this picture was taken just after the previous leader, Aubri, died, because I mark how many creatures the leader can ahve next to their name (like for Aubri),a nd I know that the creature named Lenka became the next leader. I still remember when that creature named Shadi (at the top) was alive... ANWAYS apparently Isme summoned a bunch of derp snouts females when my creatures killed her (she was spreading the sickness, okay?). Kit Kat II dies, Lisabert takes in one of Isme's followers as a mate, and Henrietta and the female give birth as Featherwillow dies. The babies are born, and Fetaherwillow passes. Now, who will be leader? Since I can't make another poll here, I'll find a website for it! But first, the two contestants! Strawberry Digger, Daughter of Lisabert and Mela (she probably won't win ) Strawberry Smoothie, son of Henrietta and Kit Kat II ah, here's a website! Now, GO VOTE SO I CAN CONTINUE PLAYING. I'll close the poll sometime tomorrow or the day after.

  25. Skates is elderly and ready to give birth. as soon as they arrive at the new island she makes herself a nest and settles in. Is that? Poison Fangs? Must breed him later, need more fangs. Wish I had time to breed her again... Baby with poison fangs is named Hockey. Shepherd and Skates die of old age. Dancer will soon be matriarch and mates with her brother Comet as there are unfortunately no unrelated males yet. Dancer gets red pattern from the Whims and Spots from me. Comet gets no Albinisim from the Whims and Blue Eyes from me. Gingerbread dies and Dancer is now matriarch. Tribe size goes up to 16. TWINS! They look identical except for color. The orangey one is named Vixen and has moms brown eyes. The red one is Cupid and has dads blue eyes. I think I'll breed both with their Poison fanged cousin. We just unlocked Nimble Fingers, which I plan on putting in every mutation menu for the foreseeable future. Hope you are enjoying my little story.

  31. It bothers me that Walrus Deer so often live on their own when many deer live in herds to protect themselves. On harder mountain biomes, there could be herds of walrus deer roaming the mountainside, consisting of Males, Females and even Babies. Males could have strength and try to attack, while Babies are the weakest and have little defense, though they also give less food. I'm thinking WolfQuest style here. Ramfoxes can be seen hunting them too sometimes. I think in order for this to work, Walrus Deer overall should have less defense, so they aren't even more difficult to kill than they already are. What do yall think?

  35. Maybe the slider would work like this: 1 fertility = up to 17 percent 2 fertility = 34% 3 fertility = 51% 4 fertility = 68% 5 fertility = 85% 6 fertility = 100% The idea of litters would be difficult, as mentioned in other comments, nest size. though I do think if one sibling was smaller, like a runt of the litter, 3 may fit. Or maybe you could 'expand' a nest, by making 3 other nests around a naturally spawning one, in a relatively flat area, you could merge them and make a large nest (taking up 4 tiles) you could have 2 mothers sitting on it. This big nest is permanent.
