  1. Happy holidays to all of you ❤️

  2. With christmas coming tomorrow, I would like to make a tribute to all the rogue males, wanderers, and dodomingos who have been brutally murdered over the year. The rogues are always told to be evil, dangerous nichelings, and they get all the hate when they show up. All they want is love and a family, but they get tracked down and killed at their homes. This also goes to all the orphaned bearyenas out there. This holiday season, lets all let those poor souls live happy, and calm lives, so they dont suffer like the rest of their kind.(This is a challenge by the way) On the other hand, lets see who can make the most interesting holiday event in their game!!!

  7. So, I picked up the game last night. I promptly jumped into story mode... and poor Adam's descendants have been dropping like flies. I've never had more than eleven creatures at once, usually no more than seven. And yet, I constantly, constantly run out of food. I find a nice spot, settle in, and gather up the food. And then, problem is, when I have to move on I can never reliably find more resources on said island, often because the grass gets in the way. This puts me in a vise: either I clear out the grass and miss gathering resources, or I try to move through it and starve anyway. I'm thinking that something is very, very wrong with how I'm playing, and would like to ask for some beginner's tips. I should note, I did try specializing into some of the more exotic niches like flight and water. That... ended VERY poorly. Best I've found is to just mix crushing jaws and a combination of nimble paws with something else. It still doesn't keep me alive reliably. I would almost welcome seeing an island full of bearyenas, at least I wouldn't have to worry about food.

  8. i prefer sticking primarily to sight mode except when i’m looking for wanderers to recruit or hear a bearyena. believe me, clearing the tall grass is worth the effort; it’s much easier to see what’s going on instead of being stuck in scent mode. and eleven nichelings isn’t bad; that’s what i usually stick to, since it allows me to tell a story with my creatures. what i do is usually have at least one nicheling near a food source each day to collect, and then at least one or two clearing grass. it allows for easier food access and visibility.

  9. You don't have to fight the balance bears. They only move one turn at a time so you can usually easily avoid them. If you want to fight them (which I do recommend) big body, spiky body or armored boy would be the most useful as they give defense but you can defeat them easily without. Just have very strong Nichelings (double bearyena claws are my go to with horns) just a strong as you can get them, preferably with poison fangs or scorpion tail as Balance Bears are vulnerable to poison. Also when it gets cold keep your Nichelings in groups of three to keep them warm. Having purr snout Nichelings around to heal your fighters is also a good idea. Apart from having fighter, hunters with a decent speed stat are also useful to hunt the bunnies. Hope that helps

  10. I'm not very good at introducing posts lol. Anyways here's another idea The coconut claws would be based off of coconut crab pincers. Like in the crab, the size of the pincers would be different on one side from the other. If the gene affects the right paw the claw will be larger and add 2 cracking and 2 strength, but if the gene affects the left paw the claw will be smaller and add 1 cracking, 1 strength and 1 collecting To unlock the coconut claws, you would need to attack crabbits a certain amount of times. I was thinking 50? Let me know what you think Also, I was thinking it could be changed so that coconuts requires at least 2 or 3 cracking for your nicheling to collect them. It seems a bit silly that it doesn't take any more cracking ability to crack open a coconut than it does to crack open an acorn Heres a picture for reference

  13. Keeping a few nichelings parked by berry bushes is a good way to keep food coming in. Also, you don't necessarily need cracker jaw and nimble fingers on the same nicheling; nimble fingers can crack and collect. If you have any nichelings with a strength stat of at least 2, they can take down rabbils and stagmoles with one hit. If these nichelings are close enough to a rabbil to be able to go to the same tile as it, they can jump right on top of the rabbil, which means it won't be able to to avoid your nicheling's attack. So you can chase down a rabbil, kill it, and collect the meat all in three movements. I'd recommend putting horns on everything as soon as you can so most of your nichelings will be able to grab any small prey that comes into range.

  14. Welcome to the forums! You have used scent and hearing mode right? That comes in very useful. With flying nichelings, the best genes to have ime are Beak, Cracker Jaw, bearyena hindlegs, and fishing tail and scorpion tail. I have an all-wings tribe that is flourishing with many of these genes.

  16. ok, hear me out here. if you know how to put savefiles in your game, i could recreate this tribe (obv. not with the same immunities or island, and probably slightly different ages) in an hour or so (probably even less). i've never lost a save before, but i would be devestated if that happened to me. im gonna start work on it now, maybe it could be a christmas gift?

  17. For those of you who haven't read wings of fire (You should!) won't get anything I am about to say. So in this challenge you try to make a nicheling out of the genes available that is most like it WoF counterpart try to see if you can do all seven (You can delete the completed savefile then make a new one for each tribe All must have horns (antlers, Megaloceros, or ram) GENES: Seawing: Gills Water body Webbed hind legs webbed paws fishing tail/Tailfin You can't have no pattern Any fur color (No blue except with toxic body, but that ruins it) In archipelago Mudwing: Cracker jaw Big body Bearyena/Normal Hindlegs Bearyena/Runner/Webbed (But you can only have 1 if webbed) paws Medium tail Any brownish fur Any brownish pattern or none In any swamp (Sleepy reeds/Swampy hill etc.) Rainwing Poison fangs Toxic body Normal hindlegs Runner/Velvet paw Fishing/Medium tail In Rainforest Skywings: (Worst build ever) Bearyena Snout Lean body Wings Normal tail Red or Orange Patterns - If they are orange/red if otherwise none Any Island Sandwings: Short snout Lean body Runner and/or Claw Scorpion tail (Duh) Pale yellow/beige Horn color must be Beige as well (it affect scorpion tail) For added challenge you could have fur pattern black, Spots, Thick density with pattern D In any savanna Icewing: Big nose Lean body Bearyena/Claw/Runner/Velvet Paws Hammer tail (Might require trial and error) White No pattern In any mountain Nightwing: Short snout Armored body Claw Any tail? Black No pattern/White spots Traveling, Start on First winter For extra challenge: Violet eyes, Sickly(Not really harder but...) Silkwing: ... No ideas Comment yours please Hivewing: Get a black and Orange Nichling with poison fangs and scorpion tail Leafwing: Get a Moss brown nicheling with double nimble fingers And make them go extinct Any forest/Rainforest Easiest? As you can tell some are hard some are not (*cough cough* Leafwing *Cough cough*) These all have reason functionality or looks. Sen me screenshots of your 'Perfect' nicheling! (Before you kill the leafwings, k? (Im not sure if some are impossible, but the shouldn't) *Gets a completely moss brown nicheling and a 1/2 moss brown one* HECK YEAH just need nimble fingers You tell me your experiances

  19. I really only attack rouge males after they make my whole tribe pregnant, and baby bearynas, I always invite them in. And, I never attack wanderers and had to kill only 1 dodomingo because I only had one tribe mate and they were starving.

  20. What I do is I have the mom make her nest near a berry bush, and then she can pick berries while also protecting the baby from birds. Maybe have your breeding nichelings next to the food (berries and acorn trees), and send the babies away to clear away the grass? Clearing the grass is definitely worth it because then you can see from farther away. You'll also have more nesting material to build more nests. To save on nesting material, instead of letting old nests rot away... you can repair the nest for 3 grass, or you can destroy the nest and get some of your material back. Also, I wouldn't really recommend cracker jaw and nimble finger on the same nicheling. Nimble finger gives cracking skill, so maybe use the head gene for something else. I recommend either big nose so you can smell more things from far away, or poison fang so that you can pick the poison berries safely. Try to attack some rabbits to unlock the ram horn gene. Ram horn and medium body will give you +2 strength. That way you can OHKO the rabbits and eat them for food. I don't really recommend trying to specialize into flying or swimming tribes if you're just beginning. Wings are good for moving around quickly, but then it's hard to gather food. Wait until you unlock other genes that can be paired with wing, like bearyenna leg, fishing tail, or bird beak. And swimming nichelings are cool, but in my opinion the water biomes are quite bare.

  21. Thank you! I think my next island might be another First Snow, so I'll definitely keep all that in mind! I'd definitely love to get big body at some stage just so I don't have to rely on groups of three.

  22. I've actually found that I have no reason to ever leave scent mode... since, invariably, I find sight useless in the grass and hearing doesn't reveal as many food sources as scent does. I actually ended up in a bad spot that playthrough immediately after I got wings courtesy of loosing my ability to gather berries and nuts- I wasn't able to get Cracker that run. What is the "proper" way to use sight and hearing modes? Also, how do you get enough food to keep separate lineages going? I've tried to do that, but it's always ended in failure.

  23. 1: Just invite them. I don't keep any wanderers because they always steal my food. It depends on my tribe whether to kill them or keep them. 2: Keep it far away from other creatures, or feed to the bluebirb if I hate it. 3: RUN 4: Depends on how much I like the creature and how slow/far they are. I mostly wait for them though. 5: If I still need to get all the bearyena genes, yes. ngl I always invite them in unless they just get annoying

  27. I finished it! im not sure its on the same island or they have the same ages or immunity genes, but i recreated the nichelings as closely as I could. they all have the same patterns, fur colours and visible genes, but some recessive genes may be different. Also, the nichelings have different portraits and family tree photos because I had to use console, but none of the other glitches should affect it. also dont mind the albino wanderer is technically not a wanderer and a child of adam and eve, but i gave him different immunities so it doesnt matter. and i may have swapped around sunflower and buttercup, and the child of the albino wanderer is an adult, i couldnt turn her back into a baby and she hasnt been named. lastly, i invited in a really cute wanderer, and a few more have spawned. enjoy the savefile, and tell me if there are any improvements I could make for you or creatures I could add. if you celebrate christmas, consider this a gift!   29. upvoted! I like the idea of one claw being bigger than the other and the nichelings needing two cracking to collect them. but how would the claws look? would they be pointing upwards like the claw, or pointing down like the bearynea claw? sorry for the really bad and rushed drawings, i just needed to get my point across quickly and i don't have my drawing tablet with me ;-;

  36. Nice dream lol I wish I could remember mine 😭 Now that I think about it, rogue males are going to function differently. When a Nicheling/OH meets a rogue male, they will be tormented by memories of the human world, and then when they wake up they will find a baby Nicheling next to them. Rogue males are kind of going to be like evil spirits, but many believe them to be the Nicheling form of whatever brought them here. Maybe they are.

  37. I tried this out and went extinct due to freezing on the mountains that's the only flaw is that you can't warm yourself up, but otherwise it's a good and fun challenge to try out and it's easy enough for new niche players!

  40. Or has anybody found a short snouted wanderer lately? I don't miss it for the more obvious reasons, it's a little odd, though. My findings were mostly: Derp Snout > Purr Snout >/< rec. beak = active platypus beak. > big nose. With an influx of platypus beaks or purr snouts, varying from tribe to tribe. The big nose was rare, and when they had it, they were blind.

  41. I don't see it as much, but once it's in a gene pool it spreads like wildfire, so I think it's actually balanced now.

  42. Agreeing with @Lilytuft. My tribe that just got me the Still Alive! achievement has a lot of immunities. Whenever a wanderer comes, try and breed them in (If they have really bad genes, and you already have a good amount of immunities, don't bother. Just know that even the best wanderer usually has a few bad genes you don't want.). Recently I had to breed in a couple wanderers to get a couple more immunities, but now their descendants have some genes I don't want. But, eventually, I'll be able to lose them. Though it is hard to get bad genes out sometimes-- once I only had females and so when I found a Rouge Male I rejoiced, but then many more Rouge Males appeared after him, so now half the tribe is Albino, and another quarter carries it recessive!) I'm still hoping we'll find A Immunity again, since we lost it a while ago (I didn't even realize we lost it until there wasn't even a dead Nicheling on the Family Tree left with it)-- I've also lost F Immunity because I forgot to breed the one creature who had it (her father was a Rouge Male, and her mother was the daughter of a Rouge Male, so I kinda forgot that I was supposed to breed her even though she had bad genes. R.I.P. Koral ).

  43. most of the complaints are about the gene system it seems. i think most don't understand how it works, and that it is fine to inbreed as long as the genes are different. that and they want more story. in my opinion most of the complaints are: we did't do research and expected the game to be something it isn't

  44. Okay, so, blind eyes. Look cool, suck to have. Now, here's a question; Why can't they just move in scent view or hearing view? I get that its to keep blind eyes to being something that sucks, but blind creatures don't just sit around all day in real life waiting for someone to tell them where to go. So could the devs make it so they could move or collect and stuff in scent or hearing view? I feel like they should be able to considering real blind animals aren't completely helpless like they are in Niche. Oh well, tell me if you think we should keep them as they are or actually let our blind creatures not be helpless inmobile creatures.
    1 point
  45. So, I voted limited movement but let me explain my perspective in more detail. I think that blind creatures should have full access to do anything in smell and hearing modes as that is all they’ve ever known and would make the added smelling and hearing more useful. However for normal-eyesighted creatures, they are much more dependent on sight so they should not be able to do as much during these modes as blind creatures.

  46. I know that jungle trees can spawn apes, but how does this work? Do they have a chance of spawning randomly depending on the number of trees, or can you force one to spawn by shaking the tree or some other way? The next questions are more about ape lore, so, (sorry for so many questions) 1- why do they spawn from trees? They seem too big to climb them. Do they raise their young there? 2- What is the history of these three subspecies that seem to coexist in harmony? 3- What is their personality, are they just aggressive brutes or are they sensible creatures who just try to defend their home from invaders? 4- why are apes the only fauna in pure jungle islands? What happened to other animals? Finally, why do apes only attack nichelings and not any other animal? In islands that are a mix of grassland and jungle, apes ignore every animal except for the nichelings.
    1 point
  47. Well, the max amount I’ve heard of is 4, but that’s pretty rare. I would prepare for about 2, and when you are on the island, there are only as many apes as there are ape trees. Ape trees are the jungle trees that you can hit for acorns.
