Implement a feature to add outside hull shapes similar to how the nimbatus ship looks as well as the ability to color parts and lights. Can make it a separate layer from the functional pieces and would be purely for aesthetic. I've drawn my drone with a single layer of shapes on top and customized the colors of various objects as an example (also it was a lot of fun to draw) EDIT: added some images of different solutions of playing the game while with cosmetics. You could have an option to toggle opacity if you would like to see what is underneath your drone while playing by pressing a key (such as an fn key) and the opacity will lower unless you press it again to bring it back up to 100%. I've tested 50% and 30% opacity here. Another solution is to add indicators to the outside layer as shown on the far right which would show the overall drone's power, fuel, factory, and resource levels.3 points

Whilst playing the game I've noticed a problem with the sex-linked blood clotting gene. The gene has a locus on the sex chromosome which is equivalent to the X chromosome in humans. Female nichelings have two of these chromosomes, while males only have one Realistically, the male would inherit his X chromosome (I'm just gonna call it that for simplicity) from his mother, and his Y chromosome from his father. This means that any X-linked genes would be inherited from his mother only, yet in the game I will often notice a female homozygous for normal blood clotting give birth to a male with the hemophilia allele and vice versa. Females with two normal blood clotting alleles should only be able to produce males with normal blood clotting, and likewise females with two alleles for hemophilia should only be able to produce males with hemophilia, regardless of the father's allele This is only a small thing that bugs me, but I would personally like to see it fixed More changes to existing genes:3 points

Hello, everyone! I've been playing Niche for some time now (not since early access but not long after), though I still haven't "won" story mode. Maybe this time! Anyway, I've been checking out the forums a lot since the last update and figured I should join in already. Anyway, Merry Christmas and I look forward to hanging out3 points

Unfortunately, rebuilding the game for mobile would basically be a complete rebuild of the code. PC Games aren't very portable to iOS or Android, even before you consider that the UI needs to be not just rebuilt, but also redesigned. The devs have stated that they do not have plans for Niche on mobile, I'm afraid.3 points

Nope, it would have no effect whatsoever on the male;female ratio of offspring. There is always a 50/50 chance on the sex of the baby, as the male (or female in some animals) has equal amounts of sperm carrying the X chromosome and sperm carrying the Y chromosome The genetics behind cat colouration is far more complicated than just 1 colour gene. The mutation of the gene on the X chromosome simply determines if the cat is able to produce eumelanin (black pigment) or not Replacing the current autosomal colour genetics with a new sex-linked system seems a huge waste of time as it would add nothing to the game at all, and would take an aweful lot of work3 points

Hi there. I purchased Niche, though I haven't launched it yet. I saw some gameplays and it looks like a very cool game, so I wanted to say that to the developers. I also read this forum, and I love the fact that @Philo and others are OK showing us the innards of the game (like with those AI posts that I might need to look at more carefully later on) as well as involving the whole community in the improvement of the game. I have always been a highly theoretical player, so I like to see how the game works on the inside. I got a few questions by watching gameplays on Youtube, though. So I'm asking those below. How do mutations work exactly? The label says 50%, but at what point in the process is this factored in? I can see different ways of that working. Like it could replace the baby's genes at birth, or during the mating. And if the later, it becomes something like ABMM x AB? (Where M is the mutation, and A and B are whatever genes are originally on the parent). Or something different? And if there's two mutations in the same slot (vg two different tails), I can't figure that out. (Or potentially FOUR mutations, I guess). Speaking of mutations, what is the point of having things like Hemophilia or No Fertility in the mutation menu? I understand that some people may want to challenge themselves or something, but for "normal" gameplay (far from my intentions trying to tell everyone what is normal), it makes no sense at all. It's not even like Derp Snout, which some people may prefer because of looks... Patterns. How can a pattern be tiny and big, and thin and thick at the same time? Those things are co-dominant, but I can't figure it out. I saw a suggestion of including a nicheling generator, and I would use that to look at patterns and color combinations and the like. I think it's a great idea, but I'm not so sure about the ability of taking them into the game. On one hand you can make very powerful nichelings and kinda "break" the game, but on the other hand what would be the point? so, I thought of adding a suggestion of something like a "creative mode". I have to find the original suggestion again, hehe. And finally for now, crossing water. Watching Jessimew's Adam's Quest gameplay, I saw when crossing islands in the Archipelago, some Nichelings took one drowning damage where others took two, with no water genes involved, so my question is, when moving in the water and you don't have water breathing, what exactly triggers drowning? That's all for now. Thank you in advance.2 points

They mix together, so Tiny + Big would make a pattern that is right in the middle. Thick + Thin would be the same.2 points

My apologies. When you said 'nope', I thought you were trying to contradict the claim. You went on to talk about the commonality of male or female children, but I had missed the question by Albino, so I was a bit confused. Yes, Klinefelter's syndrome refers to the anomaly I mentioned, though we're digressing a bit. And yes, calico is a variant of tortoiseshell.2 points

The tribe is joined by Bertil, a goodhearted wanderer. He becomes a devotee of Neeti. Bertil attracts both Jacobina and Angelika to him. He chooses to become the mate of Jacobina, liking her personality better. They have a son, Lish. He becomes a devotee of Kourai. He is brave and a bit mischievous, liking to stir up trouble. Meanwhile, Severin and Angelika decide to become mates. They have a daughter named Ilma. She chooses Ugila as her patron. She herself is very sisterly and enjoys taking care of other tribe members. Jacobina dies of old age, and Severin takes his place as successor. He and Angelika have another child; Augustinas. Augustinas lacks motivation, but at least she chooses Ohb as her patroness. Ilma, who is now an adult, mates with Lish. They name their daughter Genya, and she chooses Ohb as her patroness. A bearyena attacks, but thankfully the tribe fends it off. To be continued...2 points

Duknu mates with Rerera once more before she dies, and they have Vankir. He has a sweet, childlike sense of wonder. Dukdukro takes over the clan when Rerela dies. The tribe is then joined by Merala. A calm and logical nicheling, she is a bit impish. She falls in love with Dukdukro. Dukdukro and Merala have Relame. She is rash, hardy and lax. Soon after, they have Silako; she is a survivor, but is gentle and jolly.2 points

Roduk falls for Rerera. The two of them have Kokora. She's a bashful and quiet girl, and has her quirks. Duknu joins the tribe. He is gentle, hasty, and bashful. When Roduk dies, Duknu mates with Rerera. They have Dukdukro. Though bold and hasty, he is careful when it comes to protecting the ones he loves.2 points

On the new island, Adam and Eve decide to have a new baby. Forth comes Rerera. She is bashful and a bit naive, but hardy and does not give up. Shortly after her birth, Adam dies of old age. Eve knows that her time is coming, too, and she orders her two elder children three things; one, Komeko is to care for Rerera and raise her as her own. Two, Vannu is to take over the tribe in Adam's place. Three, at least one of them needs to find a mate. With that, she peacefully dies in her sleep. Vannu cannot help but be anxious. What shall he do without his father and mother? A wanderer male, Roro, enters the tribe. Begrudgingly, Vannu lets him into the clan. Though quirky and rash, Roro is a relaxed nicheling, and Komeko takes interest in him. Soon, Lalare joins the tribe. Though Hardy, she can be rather wicked. Vannu dies. Rerera takes his place, after some debating as to who should follow in his pawsteps. Soon enough, the clan is joined by a handsome young male by the name of Roduk. He is hasty, brave, and a bit sarcastic. Who will he fall for?2 points

What if there was a time limit like 3 days to give birth or the mom miscarries causing health loss, kinda ties in with the miscarriage idea, but with option to miscarry. I still think the x birth gene should go towards miscarriages, not not getting prego, that would really change the game. I agree these are kinda dark subjects but nature is brutal and glad you brought them up.2 points

Nichelings should, now that they have wings, be able to have Feathers and now that they have scorpion tails, other arthropod appendages should be able to get in Let me start with this Avian Genes Feathered Body +1 flying with wings +2 cold resistance +2 heat resistance -2 stealth Feather crest(in horn slot) +1 attractiveness +distasteful appearance Clawed wings +1 digging +3 flight if genes are identical Feathered tail(like archeopteryx) +1 flight with wings (maybe the easy movement idea with 25% dodge chance) Bird talons +2 seize(additional damage when swooping) +1 speed + 2 fishing +pickup(can pick up creatures the size of crabbits and smaller and drop them later) (there is another talon suggestion, look in the comments) (just paying attention to the one there) Arthropod genes Pincer paw +1 attack +1 defense(per pair) +1 cracking chitinous legs(like a crab, hind legs) +1 defense +1 speed +1 swimming Ant queen gaster(tail, only active in females) +4 fertility -2 movement -1 flight -2 swimming +effective nest building(nests cost 5 material for that creature, can also nest for free in torn earth and stagmole burrows) others Cool body -2 cold resistance +4 heat resistance +2 cooling effect(to counteract warmed up) Dextrous feet +1 collecting +1 speed +1 swimming unlock conditions: spend time in jungle(10 days) Hood(like a cobra, with no fangs though, horn slot) + distasteful appearance + hypnosis(hypnotizes small creatures like fish and bunnils to not run away and leechs and insect swarms to stay away, makes larger creatures attacks do 2 less damage) unlock conditions: spend time in savannah(25 days)1 point

Thanks for the reply. Yes. There's this really deep hex you need to stop by (deep enough that body size won't matter for sure). Then moving from there to dry land is safe (but for some reason, moving from there to shallow water is not, even if the water there is shallow enough that the nicheling can stay in it as long as it wants to). But some nichelings take damage on the dipping move, and some don't. To make it more clear: The ocean bed is two hexes wide. Some nichelings move from one island to the bed, then step to the second hex in the bed (1 damage), then to dry land on the next island, while others go from land to ocean bed (1 damage), then one step in the deep waters (1 damage), then to the next island.1 point

Calico is an American term. In British English (proper English ) a tortoiseshell is a tortoiseshell, whether they have white spotting or not. We might call them tortie and white, but we don't have a seperate name for them No harm done, though I'm not quite sure how I was "digressing" by talking about sex-linkage in tortoiseshells, was that not what you were talking about?1 point

I was going to wait until after the update, but I couldn't XD I moved my LarkClan savefile to make room for this new savefile. also minor bad news guys i thought i copied my jungle tribe but i can't find the save anywhere so that one's dead sorry...I still have my other tribes though, including my immortal tribe, so don't worry so anyway let's start! We are on Grass Adventure. The male is the tribe leader. He has a basic name that I won't bother remembering. 17 members are allowed. A son is born. There's a rogue!!! And another son! Whoa!!!! Who's that!? also this island is crawling with life wow that's new Having behbehs Here's another handsome boi. Into the tribe you go! Oh also we rolled and we'll be going to this port here eventually NOOO a sickly daughter A new son, Vantata, has been born. OH NOOO it's too soon ;o; Our brave leader and the wanderer Roro rush to kill the great beast. Tragically, the tribe leader is killed by the bearyena. Roro finishes it off in his rage. Roro and the starting female mourn the loss of their leader and eventually fall in love and have a healthy baby girl, and the female is declared the new Tribe leader. The new tribe size is 11. The leader dies of old age, and her son Vantata is declared the new leader. Now the tribe size limit is only 7. Roro is released since he will not have any more children. Why!! I hate bluebirbs...they photobomb all of my good screenshots The sick and dying Anameis has a single son. The bluebird senses her illness, knowing that soon the baby will be all alone. He hovers menacingly over Nuduknu while his mother cries out weakly for someone to save her baby. A rogue male appears. But he doesn't seem to care about the baby. Anameis' loyal mate Vantata hears her cries for help. He rushes over to her and protects young Nuduknu from the vicious Bluebird while Anameis passes peacefully in the night. Then this lovely lady named Laana appears. Our tribe is now maxed out yet again. Also, this lovely appears. She is young, so we will wait for her and snag her later.1 point

I am going to attempt this challenge, with my own twists Story We start off with Anako, a young female searching for a mate. After 5 days, she encounters Rota and mates with him. When she tries to invite him in, he dies. Anako takes this as a bad omen, but she doesn't know what exactly it means. The next day, Meana is born. As soon as Meana is a child, Anako is dead. She remembers the story of her father Anako told her, and realizes that the family must be cursed. Meana has attempted to kill herself in the past few days, yet time keeps resetting to the moment before the attempt. Meana sighed, and accepted her fate when she met Nukir. In a few days, after gathering nesting material, Meana gives birth to Duknuduk. Having already been explained beforehand to her that the family was cursed and that Meana would die as soon as she was a child, Duknuduk doesn't take it too hard, though she is still quite sad. After gathering enough nesting material, Tavanta pops out of nowhere. Intrigued by his looks (I mean seriously when do you ever find this awesome-looking of a wanderer), Duknuduk decides that she will not see another island, but her daughter will, and waits the next day to mate with him. The deed is done. After a few days of food collecting for her daughter, Duknuduk decides finally to have her. The next day Memesi is born, with her father's water body (though you can't see it). Memesi catches a sickness from a mole she hopped out of the nest next to. This worries Duknuduk immensely, and decides that with the curse, Memesi will not make it. Duknuduk shakily kills her. Duknuduk finds Nuku some days later, and attempts to mate with him, to no avail. After 2 days, Duknuduk finally mates with Nuku, and she resurfaces on land. After another day, Duknuduk has Kois, who is healthy. For the first time, the mother dies of natural causes, leaving Kois less hurt. She begins her journey to the next island. Now on a new HUGE island, who will Kois mate with? Who will she have? Find out in the next update!1 point
