Implement a feature to add outside hull shapes similar to how the nimbatus ship looks as well as the ability to color parts and lights. Can make it a separate layer from the functional pieces and would be purely for aesthetic. I've drawn my drone with a single layer of shapes on top and customized the colors of various objects as an example (also it was a lot of fun to draw) EDIT: added some images of different solutions of playing the game while with cosmetics. You could have an option to toggle opacity if you would like to see what is underneath your drone while playing by pressing a key (such as an fn key) and the opacity will lower unless you press it again to bring it back up to 100%. I've tested 50% and 30% opacity here. Another solution is to add indicators to the outside layer as shown on the far right which would show the overall drone's power, fuel, factory, and resource levels.3 points

Whilst playing the game I've noticed a problem with the sex-linked blood clotting gene. The gene has a locus on the sex chromosome which is equivalent to the X chromosome in humans. Female nichelings have two of these chromosomes, while males only have one Realistically, the male would inherit his X chromosome (I'm just gonna call it that for simplicity) from his mother, and his Y chromosome from his father. This means that any X-linked genes would be inherited from his mother only, yet in the game I will often notice a female homozygous for normal blood clotting give birth to a male with the hemophilia allele and vice versa. Females with two normal blood clotting alleles should only be able to produce males with normal blood clotting, and likewise females with two alleles for hemophilia should only be able to produce males with hemophilia, regardless of the father's allele This is only a small thing that bugs me, but I would personally like to see it fixed More changes to existing genes:3 points

Hello, everyone! I've been playing Niche for some time now (not since early access but not long after), though I still haven't "won" story mode. Maybe this time! Anyway, I've been checking out the forums a lot since the last update and figured I should join in already. Anyway, Merry Christmas and I look forward to hanging out3 points

Unfortunately, rebuilding the game for mobile would basically be a complete rebuild of the code. PC Games aren't very portable to iOS or Android, even before you consider that the UI needs to be not just rebuilt, but also redesigned. The devs have stated that they do not have plans for Niche on mobile, I'm afraid.3 points

Nope, it would have no effect whatsoever on the male;female ratio of offspring. There is always a 50/50 chance on the sex of the baby, as the male (or female in some animals) has equal amounts of sperm carrying the X chromosome and sperm carrying the Y chromosome The genetics behind cat colouration is far more complicated than just 1 colour gene. The mutation of the gene on the X chromosome simply determines if the cat is able to produce eumelanin (black pigment) or not Replacing the current autosomal colour genetics with a new sex-linked system seems a huge waste of time as it would add nothing to the game at all, and would take an aweful lot of work3 points

Hi there. I purchased Niche, though I haven't launched it yet. I saw some gameplays and it looks like a very cool game, so I wanted to say that to the developers. I also read this forum, and I love the fact that @Philo and others are OK showing us the innards of the game (like with those AI posts that I might need to look at more carefully later on) as well as involving the whole community in the improvement of the game. I have always been a highly theoretical player, so I like to see how the game works on the inside. I got a few questions by watching gameplays on Youtube, though. So I'm asking those below. How do mutations work exactly? The label says 50%, but at what point in the process is this factored in? I can see different ways of that working. Like it could replace the baby's genes at birth, or during the mating. And if the later, it becomes something like ABMM x AB? (Where M is the mutation, and A and B are whatever genes are originally on the parent). Or something different? And if there's two mutations in the same slot (vg two different tails), I can't figure that out. (Or potentially FOUR mutations, I guess). Speaking of mutations, what is the point of having things like Hemophilia or No Fertility in the mutation menu? I understand that some people may want to challenge themselves or something, but for "normal" gameplay (far from my intentions trying to tell everyone what is normal), it makes no sense at all. It's not even like Derp Snout, which some people may prefer because of looks... Patterns. How can a pattern be tiny and big, and thin and thick at the same time? Those things are co-dominant, but I can't figure it out. I saw a suggestion of including a nicheling generator, and I would use that to look at patterns and color combinations and the like. I think it's a great idea, but I'm not so sure about the ability of taking them into the game. On one hand you can make very powerful nichelings and kinda "break" the game, but on the other hand what would be the point? so, I thought of adding a suggestion of something like a "creative mode". I have to find the original suggestion again, hehe. And finally for now, crossing water. Watching Jessimew's Adam's Quest gameplay, I saw when crossing islands in the Archipelago, some Nichelings took one drowning damage where others took two, with no water genes involved, so my question is, when moving in the water and you don't have water breathing, what exactly triggers drowning? That's all for now. Thank you in advance.2 points

They mix together, so Tiny + Big would make a pattern that is right in the middle. Thick + Thin would be the same.2 points

My apologies. When you said 'nope', I thought you were trying to contradict the claim. You went on to talk about the commonality of male or female children, but I had missed the question by Albino, so I was a bit confused. Yes, Klinefelter's syndrome refers to the anomaly I mentioned, though we're digressing a bit. And yes, calico is a variant of tortoiseshell.2 points

The tribe is joined by Bertil, a goodhearted wanderer. He becomes a devotee of Neeti. Bertil attracts both Jacobina and Angelika to him. He chooses to become the mate of Jacobina, liking her personality better. They have a son, Lish. He becomes a devotee of Kourai. He is brave and a bit mischievous, liking to stir up trouble. Meanwhile, Severin and Angelika decide to become mates. They have a daughter named Ilma. She chooses Ugila as her patron. She herself is very sisterly and enjoys taking care of other tribe members. Jacobina dies of old age, and Severin takes his place as successor. He and Angelika have another child; Augustinas. Augustinas lacks motivation, but at least she chooses Ohb as her patroness. Ilma, who is now an adult, mates with Lish. They name their daughter Genya, and she chooses Ohb as her patroness. A bearyena attacks, but thankfully the tribe fends it off. To be continued...2 points

Duknu mates with Rerera once more before she dies, and they have Vankir. He has a sweet, childlike sense of wonder. Dukdukro takes over the clan when Rerela dies. The tribe is then joined by Merala. A calm and logical nicheling, she is a bit impish. She falls in love with Dukdukro. Dukdukro and Merala have Relame. She is rash, hardy and lax. Soon after, they have Silako; she is a survivor, but is gentle and jolly.2 points

Roduk falls for Rerera. The two of them have Kokora. She's a bashful and quiet girl, and has her quirks. Duknu joins the tribe. He is gentle, hasty, and bashful. When Roduk dies, Duknu mates with Rerera. They have Dukdukro. Though bold and hasty, he is careful when it comes to protecting the ones he loves.2 points

On the new island, Adam and Eve decide to have a new baby. Forth comes Rerera. She is bashful and a bit naive, but hardy and does not give up. Shortly after her birth, Adam dies of old age. Eve knows that her time is coming, too, and she orders her two elder children three things; one, Komeko is to care for Rerera and raise her as her own. Two, Vannu is to take over the tribe in Adam's place. Three, at least one of them needs to find a mate. With that, she peacefully dies in her sleep. Vannu cannot help but be anxious. What shall he do without his father and mother? A wanderer male, Roro, enters the tribe. Begrudgingly, Vannu lets him into the clan. Though quirky and rash, Roro is a relaxed nicheling, and Komeko takes interest in him. Soon, Lalare joins the tribe. Though Hardy, she can be rather wicked. Vannu dies. Rerera takes his place, after some debating as to who should follow in his pawsteps. Soon enough, the clan is joined by a handsome young male by the name of Roduk. He is hasty, brave, and a bit sarcastic. Who will he fall for?2 points

What if there was a time limit like 3 days to give birth or the mom miscarries causing health loss, kinda ties in with the miscarriage idea, but with option to miscarry. I still think the x birth gene should go towards miscarriages, not not getting prego, that would really change the game. I agree these are kinda dark subjects but nature is brutal and glad you brought them up.2 points

I'll understand if you happen to find this suggestion overly morbid, but since our packs can already devour befriended bearyenas... ..., I'd like to propose the packs should be able to hunt and ingest rogue males and possibly wandering nichelings. Both rogues and wanderers would give the same amount of feedings (7?) and would be able to protect themselves/flee on a level corresponding to their genes. For example, a strong/poisonous/spiky/etc. wandering nicheling could pose a serious threat to the pack (yet somehow I doubt anyone would kill such a promising potential member), while a crippled rogue male could be an easy prey, and a life-saver in case there were little alternative food sources. Neither rogues or wanderers would attack the pack on their own (initiate fights), ever, with the exception of the 'attacks' the rogues already conduct.1 point

so I am confusion wHY CAN'T I REPLY I can't even edit it to send an actual reply what are you playing at strayfawnstudio.com??? Anyways what I was going to say was it doesn't make any sense to add a mutation for gender when gender has nothing to do with genes WWatch it not save this edit Never mind it's all good in the hood1 point

Perhaps the orange golden eyes could be called orange, and the current orange eyes could be renamed to gold or something like that. I always thought they looked more of a gold colour than orange, so having some nice proper orange eyes would be pretty cool @Dingorok i agree that theyre pretty similar to the yellow eyes, they should be a bit more reddish in my opinion SSort of like this1 point

Another idea with needing to see indicators, is maybe having a button to toggle between needing to see underneath the cosmetics while you play (like a lowered opacity), or like you said add a special indicator specifically on the cosmetic layer which is a neat idea1 point

Another young male joins the tribe- Florianus. He is a survivor, always trying to prove his strength and have fun. He chooses Icunuse as his patron. Alma and Florianus grow up together and have a child. They name him Ernu. Ernu is very easygoing and has trouble taking things seriously. He becomes devotee of Kourai. Alma thinks that he could learn a thing or two from the ancient Aure, who is showing his age. Ernu has many chats with him, wanting to hear cool stories about his youth. "How old are you, anyways?" Ernu asks, his large ears twitching curiously. "Older than your parents' parents, and their parents, and probably their parents before that," says Aure, flicking his tail with a sort of pride. "Was a gift from Neeti." "What were your parents like?" Aure flattens his ears in thought. his parents seemed like distant dreams now. "You know.. my mother looked a bit like you." "Really? Thanks, I guess..." Ernu says, making Aure laugh. He then turns to Aure. "I hope I can live as long as you one day." "It's a blessing and a curse," says Aure. "If I were you, I would rather pray to Kourai that you would never have to." That night, Ernu lays down his weary head and finally meets Neeti in the flesh. The loss of Aure leaves the tribe in a state of chaos- they knew this was coming, but they still have trouble accepting it. The one who had brought them all together and helped raised them is gone. Who could ever replace someone like that? "Allow me," says Alma. "I cannot replace him, but I can try to substitute for him." The tribe agrees, and Alma is made the next leader. Alma and Florianus have another child in hopes of filling the gap that Aure left behind. They have Rob, a soft-spoken and proud male. He takes on Neeti as his patroness after hearing stories from his brother about Aure. Rembra joins the tribe. She follows Ugila. She is brave, but shy. Rob becomes her mate, and they have Gaz, a relaxed and lonely boy and becomes a devotee of Ohb. Alma dies, and Rob takes his place as leader after her. How will he do?1 point

Aure's parents die off, and he prays like Cassander did every day. "Leave the island," orders Neeti in a dream. "It's been over a century since anyone left the island," states Aure, now near death worriedly. "We will be with you wherever you go." Reluctantly, Aure leaves the island the next day, giving it one last look. For his bravery, Neeti awards him with 100 years of life. After another long search, Aure finds Marci, a quirky orphan girl. He takes her in like a daughter figure. She becomes a devotee of Ugila. One day, the two are attacked by a bearyena! Despite Aure's best efforts to help her, she, too, dies. Aure shows anger towards Neeti, feeling like she has abandoned him. The fiery goddess replies sharply with a shake of the earth. She has brought him this far- how dare he question her now? Despite his heated prayers, they do not cease, and he keeps faith. Aure encounters another wanderer female named Eme. Eme is cranky and outspoken, but agrees to come with him. She is a follower of Kourai. The tribe is then joined by Deirdre, a fast-paced female who follows Icunuse. Finally, Aure finds Luis. Luise is a young male who seems timid, but is rather funny once he comes out of his shell. He follows Ohb. Luis and Eme become mates, and Eme has a daughter named Alma. Alma is calm and quiet, but also honest. She follows Ugila. Things are looking up, but Aure knows his time is coming. Will he be ready after all these years?1 point

Ilma and Lish have another child named Theodora. She is a gentle soul, and chooses Neeti as her patroness in order to give her strength. Severin dies, and Theodora, now an adult, becomes leader. Genya shocks the entire tribe when one day, she announces she is pregnant. Her mother and sisters, who know there are no male members now, question her. She gives birth, though, and they see the nicheling is son of a Bearyena. Genya names him Cassander, and he chooses Neeti as his patroness for her fiery personality. He himself, however, lacks the bearyena spirit one would expect; he is impulsive and a bit lazy. The rest of the tribe dies, leaving Cassander alone. He prays to Neeti for something, anything to help him. On the verge of giving up, Cassander finds Dokiya, a pretty she-nicheling. She is rather serious, but is charmed by Cassander's awkward mannerisms, joining him in his travels. She chooses Ugila as her patron. Soon, Dokiya finds another male and invites him to join the party. He agrees. His name is Adie. He's very shy, and chooses Icunuse as his patron. Much to Cassander's dismay, Dokiya and Adie fall in love. They have a son. Named Aure. He's very determined and outspoken, but has a gentle side to him. Cassander dies, and Aure takes his place as the leader.1 point

Sorry, Havent had much time to play this week. Short update, Comet and Elfie have died. Vixen gives birth to Chippy who has those Nimble fingers I wanted. Cupid has Donner, a cracker jaw with claw. Time to breed again. Vixen has a sickly little boy named Kole. He has beautiful coloring and a set of Nimble fingers. Cupid has a set of twins Jolly And Joker. We are now over our limit of 10 so Puck is going to become a wanderer. Ewww, Cupid was attacked by a rouge Male. Not sure I want her to have this Baby, but on the other hand we are low on Female Nichelings... What to do? Oh my gosh, you are gorgeous! Cant invite in due to numbers, but Prancer is so breeding with him to have a baby later. A Beareyna Attacks Dasher While he is Exploring. Donner to the Rescue!1 point

Do a challenge! It makes everything a lot more fun ^^ Also, don't breed too much. If you get too many creatures, take your favorites/ones with the genes you need and run to the next island. Then you get to start from scratch with them! I also find that it's more fun when you don't have much food than when you have so much food you don't know what to do with it. If you want, you can do 'change berry count - (number)', and it will remove some food from your storage. If I super duper really like a creature, I usually find them a place. It can also be a creature that did something super heroic, like sacrificed themselves to an ape for the good of the tribe (R.I.P. Kinarri, you are forever remembered as a god), or the first creature to defeat a Killer bearyena in any of your tribes. I just make them up. I like to make weird/funny ones too (ex. Amused Grass, Beaky Nightmare, Not Unique, Duyusiimi). Sometimes I just give one a regular name, or a slightly changed one (ex. Annie=Annini).1 point

Skates is elderly and ready to give birth. as soon as they arrive at the new island she makes herself a nest and settles in. Is that? Poison Fangs? Must breed him later, need more fangs. Wish I had time to breed her again... Baby with poison fangs is named Hockey. Shepherd and Skates die of old age. Dancer will soon be matriarch and mates with her brother Comet as there are unfortunately no unrelated males yet. Dancer gets red pattern from the Whims and Spots from me. Comet gets no Albinisim from the Whims and Blue Eyes from me. Gingerbread dies and Dancer is now matriarch. Tribe size goes up to 16. TWINS! They look identical except for color. The orangey one is named Vixen and has moms brown eyes. The red one is Cupid and has dads blue eyes. I think I'll breed both with their Poison fanged cousin. We just unlocked Nimble Fingers, which I plan on putting in every mutation menu for the foreseeable future. Hope you are enjoying my little story.1 point
