  1. To @Jojo Sorry it'snot digital or anything, pretty much all I can do is sketch... It's supposed to be Frostskull as a baby, with her mother's (or whoever's bones they are) skeleton surrounding her.

  2. With the upcoming sandbox settings, I tought of a fun and really difficult challenge, that propably has lots of issues. You set every age slider to max, exept for adult, wich you set to 1 day. Simple

  3. I think it is a great idea, especially story wise. Handling sick Nichelings really isn't that difficult (not even the females, you can have the male move in on the baby and the mother away = baby save and mother doesn't get anybody sick) and when you have a purrsnout Nicheling around sick Nichelings can live almost as long as normal Nichelings. Also I think it is very useful if you are indeed worried about loosing home island immunity but of course you run the risk of having it spread to much. I think it is smart in a story way and in a gameplay with story and survival especially useful. So yeah as an experienced player I think it is a good and easy way to keep a desired immunity gene

  5. For @Takoyaki I'm so sorry this is late! I was busy for the first few days and I coloured over the wrong layer and noticed halfway through colouring. oof. This is also my first time shading with the airbrush so apologies if the shading looks a bit choppy in places. I'm also remaking the background and posting it in the replies (I made this simpler background so I could get this posted as soon as possible)

  6. Oats is chosen as the Matriarch right as she was born, she has a lot of responsibilty in her paws. ^^^ Lianna sings out to the ancestors hoping to bring someone into the tribe. Kassi is a proud mother to her rogue born baby, Peaches II. She is trying to secure her a spot onto the ports. Fennel takes in Skyrie after her parents Kokonut and Jonas have passed away. Vandukvan appears from the grasses visiting Rame, they aren't compatible but Rame has some feelings for him nonetheless. The drought begins making most berry bushes useless to collectors like Rame. Rame has her baby with the new male. Little Citrus is born and his parents decide to keep him on the island. This gorgeous rogue with the toxic body and melanism is starting a rampage! Oh no.. WHO ARE YOU!? We've arrived at the archipelago! Peaches II Starts a family. WOW A NURSERY! TWINS! Oats & Honeydew are starting a family aswell! Amanita is starting a family too! Tide is born, look at those stripes! Lisa's baby Doci is so cute. Amanita is having her 1st baby! Paprika, has the big ears, the wing, AND THE CRACKER JAW! Paprika's father passed. Can we just mention the amount of nests here? Paprika's mother passed away, she is all alone. Anamera joins the tribe, she reminds everyone of Adam. Button and her friends go on an expedition to explore. Anasi joins the tribe, she is gorgeous! Paprika has made some bunny friends to cope with the loss of her mother. They have found Paprika! Everyone is bonked on the head by a coconut! Oats passes away, her child Dugar is very much grieving. Thanks for reading this, now here is the new leader list! Hercules, Cookie, Pineapple, Tide, Ganoush, and Lily. I picked them because they all had home island immunity!\ Slot4 (3).nichesave

  8. I'm watching her Adam's Quest playthrough. Let me say first I think she's a great weaver of stories, and I'm enjoying the series a lot. This is NOT intended to dismiss her in any way. What I'm curious here is what does everyone think about the strategy of deliberately going for what she calls (for story reasons) the shaman's curse. That would be a sick nicheling with double home immunity. I'm still relatively new with the game, but I don't see it worth the hassle of handling a sick nicheling. That is either risking shortening other nichelings' lifespan (especially if the "cursed" nicheling is female) or having to keep them alone, which is a bit awkward because the idea is you want to breed with them a lot. The idea seems to be as a way of getting more births with home immunity so that the gene is not lost, which sounds good, but comes with the price described above of shortened lifespan or intensified micro. So, to people here with more experience, I ask: What do you think? Valid way of thinking, or cute trick, but ultimately not worth the hassle? PS: I don't think I will use it, because for some reason it feels "gamey" to me. I know we do many other things that are gamey, but not really that much. Evolution means adapting to the environment. The only gamey part is that in Nicheling we can partially adapt to an environment before going there. But in any case, I'd like to know what people thinks. PPS: I hope this is the right place for this kind of strategy discussions too. If not, please feel free to move it to the right place.

  9. Guess who's hopping on the whims bandwagon? Anyways, rules are as follows: the maximum tribe size is to be generated every time a new patriarch/matriarch is chosen, i'm not allowed to look at the genes for any reason other than to check the immunities of each creature, and in every creature's mutation menu must go one random mutation. We start out with two cracker jaws (which I dislike) Koanako and Kuta. I change their gem colours accordingly to their roles, and start out on our journey. And fun fact: we're in first snow! The next day we give birth to a little girl, Anaana. I also generate the random mutations. Anaana's mutation is blue eyes, Koanako's is brown horns, and Kuta's is white horns. All cosmetics, which is neither good nor bad. I decide to give both parents good eyesight, and since cracker jaw isnt bad and short snout isn't desired, I leave Anaana's mutations alone for now. Aside from that, I generate the amount of tribe mates we can have right now, and it turns out ot be 37. I'm generating between 1 and 47, since thats the amount of people including bots in a discord server im in. As for now, im gonna keep breeding our matriarch and patriarch until they have five kids. A day or two later, we have Mesi. Her random mutation is pattern shape A. I decide to give her medium tail, as that will allow us to gain 1 point of cold resistance. Third baby is Taduk, our first male, accompanied with our first bluebird. His random mutation is white horns, just like Kuta's. I decide to send Mesi and Anaana to explore beyond the stream bordering off where we started. So far they've found a single berry bush. But perhaps if they go further, they'll find something else? Next day we have Sira, who has big pattern. I accidentally gave her white horns so I guess she's out of potential good mutations. Perhaps exploring was a bad idea. Welp, as they say, strike, scream, and run! After fighting battles we can't win without getting hurt, collecting food, and dealing with it getting colder, we see a small wanderer across the stream. We invite her, the young Aname, into our tribe. Perhaps she could be useful to us? She gets yellow eyes as a random mutation. I guess we're moving the entire tribe. There's a lot of food over there from what we've experienced in the first day. Also, there's an ice block in the far distance. We're still finding a decent amount of food, however it's getting a bit chilly. The tribe packs itselves into groups to keep eachother warm. The patriarch and matriarch breed one last time before deciding to pass down the responsibility of their roles. I decide to choose Aname and Taduk as the new patriarch and matriarch. The next day a plain female baby is born named Meis. And in the distance we see... well, let's get away from that! We also spot a sick little boy in the ocean. While cute, and with a nice pattern, he is undesirable. The next day, the snow clears up, the balance bear shows little interest in us, and a walrus deer appears. The tribe, low on food, decides to attack it, even if its futile. They quickly notice how little damage they're doing to it though, and leave it alone. They find a dead crabbit and a root instead... they also find two arctic ramfoxes... of which they decide to steal from. One of them dies the next day of something, and Aname attacks the other one. (AND OH MY GOD THE SOUND IT MAKES WHEN YOU ATTACK IS SO CUTE AND SAD AT THE SAME TIME AAAA) Our previous matriarch and patriarch die, so we assign the new ones. Our new tribe size limit is 16. Also I just noticed the balance bear has this fluffy tail and I love it. The tribe finds a port to a supposed swampland, and decides that being in a swamp full of bugs and toxic berry bushes is better than being in a frozen wasteland where they can barely find enough food to sustain themselves. Surprisingly, what they find at the end of the port isn't a swampland.. oh no, it's much worse. It's a jungle! The tribe tells themselves to stay calm, and that they'll find a way out soon. For now, they will be collecting, staying to the sidelines, and being as quiet as possible. Velvet paw has unlocked as a mutatable gene. The tribe decides to make its way to the northern port, as perhaps it could lead to the legendary home island of the very first creature to create a tribe of their own, Adam. One of our females, Meis, gives birth to twins, the one with horns and big ears being sick. But yknow what? Fuck the game, im using the console to fix this. However, I will make the other one sick. Along with beggining to collect large amount of food per day, our luck only increases as we find a stinky-tailed poison-fanged child in the bushes! While he does appear to have a crippled paw, I love him all the same. In our tribe he goes! And with that, I'll end the update off. Cya!

  10. A more detailed version of the Sandstorm idea ! ^^ Every 8 - 15 days, a sandstorm would occur. The screen has an orangey-yellow tint, and small particles will fly across the screen resembling sand. Sandstorms can last 1-3 days and deal 1 damage to anyone who is not next to another Nicheling. To protect against sandstorms, the camel eye gene (face type) and a "no-sweat" body could be added. The camel eye/face will have long eyelashes and resemble a camel face. The no-sweat body can protect against heat and sandstorms, resembling a lean body with small spikes (see for reference thorny devil). It would only rain in the desert every 15-25 days and cannot occur in sync with a sandstorm. *other random ideas* I think Bunnel nests should still spawn in the desert, as bunnies do live in deserts sometimes. I think. I don't know. Whatever, they should still spawn there. Going back to my other idea about the desert snake, I was thinking instead of a snake, it could be a hybrid between a coyote and warthog of sorts. I'm not a good drawer, but heres a piece of concept art:This could be the replacement predator for the bearyena in the desert. Seeing as there won't be many berry bushes, why not add something like the walrus deer? My idea was to add an Ostrich hybrid. I'm not sure what it would be crossed with, I'll leave that up to you 😅

  11. I think this has been suggested before but it was in with a bunch of other ideas in one post and I just loved this idea so much and had another idea to maybe improve it So basically it is a horn slot gene of course, probably would be more rare and recessive. It would give +1 or +2 strength, possibly +1 attractiveness and maybe even healing powers? (like purr snout) I understand if people think that it would be too unrealistic and 'magical' for Niche though... You could unlock it in the menu by inviting a unicorn nicheling into the tribe and then healing (with purr snout or horn) 25 times? Here was the unicorn idea I found after thinking up my own (I did not take inspiration from this) https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/2280-niche-suggestions/&page=0#comment-7253 edit! I made a drawing showing the unicorn horn on a pegamercaticorn (Pegasus mermaid cat unicorn) nicheling. My tablet is not working so I am using good old fashioned paper

  12. I adore that the short snouts are being spread. They're super cute and look much nicer than cracker jaw, albeit less useful. Also, mind if I share a nicheling I bred on whale island?

  13. also i would like to have rabbils, maybe they could be sand-coloured instead in the desert? also, i think we would need atleast 3 new animals: a balance bear of the desert, a walrus deer of the desert (this is the fenmel; the animal lilytuft made), and the arctic ramfox of the desert. i think the snake-lion (liake? snaion?) would make a good "arctic ramfox". it could live in prides like a lion, and hunt the rabbils for food. it could be a snake, with a lions mane, and alot larger fangs, with maybe the fluff on a lion's tail on the end of it's body? it would give 10 food when killed, and is venomous when it attacks, but only deals one damage. and the balance bear would have to be a mixture of the most formidable animals. maybe a thorny devil and some kind of scorpion? it would be huge, the size of a balance bear maybe. also the coyote/ warthog is cool for a bearynea replacement! i wouldnt imagine bearyneas living in the desert, so that would be cool! the concept art you did is cool too, i like the way you combined the two animals!

  20. And her name is... Pippi! Matriarch Stormy has had a rather plain looking daughter named Puff. Gabriel has died of old age, leaving Spiria pregnant with his last child. Young Marigold was off exploring the grasses to the North, trying to catch her sisters, when she was attacked by a Rouge! Embarrassed, she hides in the grasses and makes a nest there. She births baby Rola in secret and soon leaves her to fend for herself. Meanwhile back at camp, Stormy has birthed her second child. This time a boy with his mothers fangs and his fathers coloring. What should we name him? All I can come up with is Doubloon and I just dont know...

  22. Cool idea! I think that a snake predator should exist, but like bunnils, they live in burrows. Maybe they hunt bunnils like we do? They could be crossed with a lion-ish thing and hunt in packs. I'm not good with concept art either so I'll give you the outline: lion head, snake body, lion front limbs, snake rattle.

  33. I dont understand some people. how can digging trunk and mammoth foot not look adorable? mammoth foot is one of my favourite paw genes, and digging trunk its adorable! I think the same with the gills, too- I dont love them, but most the time I dont think they are ugly. I think the only case of webbed paw looking good is on my god of the seas, and on some of my albino platypus nichelings, on any other nicheling I think it looks ugly as hell lmao

  34. I've been playing on older versions lately just for fun, and I decided to make a playthrough when I saw how beautiful my starting Eve was. No rules for this, just playing the game as is and seeing where it takes me. I start with my Adam and my Eve. The two are in love, having left their old home behind to start a family on this small island. Though Eve's genes are perfection, Two runners legs, perfect eyesight, normal hindlegs and a crown of horns, she is slightly worried by Adams genetics. His eyesight is a little hazy, and his missing paw could be passed down to some of their kids. Eve quietly prays to the gods that her children will receive good eyes and good hindlegs (mutation menu) Once she becomes pregnant, she prepares for her first child, staying in the nest to collect berries while Adam clears away nearby grasses. Their first child is born, a male with a missing paw. They decide to name him Dire, due to his wolf-like fur coloring. Eve immediately is worried about how his lack of paw will limit his life, but Adam reassures her that he will grow up fine. Within the next few days, they have another son, and then another. The older of the two is Tye, and the newborn is Light. Adam begins to worry about the lack of girls being born. Adams concerns are soon answered when a young female wanders into the camp. She's discovered by Dire and the two become quick friends. She introduces herself as Kolara. That same night, Eve births a daughter. They name her Cherry after her lovely red horns. But Adam still remains concerned, as he wanted to keep their bloodline pure, but no immunity genes match up among his children. He is also concerned that Dire has taken too much of a liking to Kolara. Eve, hoping to finally have a child with proper immunity genes, gives birth to yet another daughter. At this point the food sources are dwindling, having more children could result in starvation. This new daughter is named Shimmer for her lovely grey pelt and shining horns Still no luck, her immunity genes don't match anyones. Meanwhile, Adams fears have come true, Kolara is pregnant by one of his children, but to his surprise it is not Dire, but Tye. On the same night, Eve and Kolara give birth. Kolara gives birth to the first cracker jaw child anyone on the island has ever seen, she as well possesses brilliantly blue eyes. Her name is Teagan, meaning Beauty. Eve also gives birth to her child, and rejoices to see her immunities match up to those of Dire. When little Speck grows to adulthood, the two will become partners and continue the tribe. Though the next day comes will a flood of problems for the clan. From the brush emerges a bear. Shimmer, stationed at the berry bush, is the first attacked. The bear takes two massive swipes at her with its claws. Light and Adam quickly rush to her aid, taking down the creature. Adam tends to Shimmers wounds and stops the bleeding, but it is clear that her lifespan has been drastically decreased. Eve is realizing this new island is not as safe as she once thought, What else might be lurking in the grasses? To be continued.

  36. I don't really have Nicheling gods because I'm too lazy to keep track of them ahahahahaqhoitagsznx But, I do have one. Nuvan Nuvan is the god of strength. Born to a spit-snouted mother and a father whose only intention was fighting, Nuvan was a surprise in the family. Sure, he was a big tank-on-legs that was very slow and couldn't do much, but he was strong. On a good day, he could break a boulder if he wanted to. The tribe noticed this, and immediately put him to use. He hunted rabbils, chased out bearyenas, and such. Nuvan eventually settled down and had a couple of kids with another bearyena-like creature named... I actually forgot. Her name is... uh... Juniper. Seems legit. Nuvan always wanted to wage war against wanderers and bearyenas, but his plans were diverted when he realized he couldn't. When he died, he rose up to the heavens and was awarded "First God". Though I am not sure why, as he did nothing cool, but he is a god.

  38. so ive wanted to make a suggestion for a long time, but i could never think of what to suggest, then i had an idea. in the very early version of the game, i vaguely remember there being a desert and savannah biome. even if im just making it up that there was once a desert biome, which i may be but i cant remember, i still want a desert biome now that i thought of it once existing. for what i have thought of, it would be alot like the mountains, meaning the islands would be huge, but it would also have no grass (maybe with a few islands having surrounding savannah). there would have to be new predators, new genes, new prey, and lots of new plants and a few new trees. now i could just come up with all of these myself, but i thought: why not first see what people would want from a desert biome? i could ask what genes, plants, animals ect. people would want the most, and then i would develop the ideas into something that would work well together, turn it into a long and detailed suggestion on the feature requests and boom! a desert biome made by the whole community, so nearly everyone would have something they would want in there. and thats exactly what im doing. obviously yes, implementing an entire biome with new genes and animals would be impossible for the devs to do alongside a normal community update, but maaaybe if it gets enough votes, it could become a seperate update entirely a few years down the road. so heres exactly what im asking for all the people who want to help me: reply to this topic with any ideas you want for the desert biome: predators, prey, genes, plants, you name it. it can be as complicated as a whole predator with stats and behaviours and design, or as simple as the name of an animal i could mix with another animal to make a species for the island. anything will help, and eventually after a few months, i will gather the auggestions, turn them into a cohesive idea, and post a detailed suggestion on the feature request list. go wild! start posting. i want this desert biome idea to have as many people's ideas included as possible (also yes, i know ive been talking like an overexcited advert narrator for this post, but the inner persuasive writer in me came out whilst writing this. finally, a use for all that persuasive writing lessons ive had 😂)

  39. ooh, nice ideas! I'm thinking the camel eye would just be an eye gene, separate to the camel head, and maybe it could be called eyelash eyes? Let's say in every sandstorm, a nicheling will lose 1 point of eyesight (yes, I know shortsighted nichelings will go blind, but I think that's fine for a biome that's supposed to be unforgiving) and will take one or two days of damage unless they are next to another nicheling, but with camel eyes, they will not lose any eyesight. And the no sweat body is so cool! Maybe it could be called the thorny body (because that describes it better) and it adds +1 distasteful appearance, +2 defence and +3 heat resistance? And you won't get hurt by sandstorms, but still lose eyesight?

  44. The tribe is joined by Petar, a jolly, relaxed and mischievous male. He chooses Kourai as his patroness. Eerik and Edite have one more child, a girl who Edite believes has a striking similarity to Kourai. She names her Kouraios as a tribute, and raises her to choose Kourai as her patroness. Petar, meanwhile, is rather friendly with Harshi. The two of them become mates and have a child. They name him Linnie. He becomes a devotee of Icunuse like his mother. He is a laid back and jolly nicheling, albeit a bit lazy. Eerik and Edite die, leaving the clan waiting for the next leader. They volunteer Kouraios, saying that she must have a connection with the gods. It is agreed, and Kouraios takes her place as leader. Harshi encourages Linnie to court Kouraios, suggesting that devotees of Kourai are good and loyal lovers, like his father was. Linnie agrees and woos Kouraios. The two of them have Guol. Guol is a docile and easygoing nicheling, but is rather lonely. He takes on Neeti as his patroness in hopes of her giving him more bravery.
