Story mode is sort of the main game play and currently you can't turn the tutorial off (I wish we could) but you can suggest it in feature requests. The aim of Story Mode is to get to home island with the home island immunity (passed down from Adam) in Story Mode as said above you have to unlock the higher difficulty islands but the islands themselves are still random (inside the difficutly you are still on). Also you can only unlock all genes in story mode as there is a certain gene you only get when you have home island immunity and reach the home island. Sandbox mode let's you choose which island you want to start on but you can't have home island immunity and 'finish' the story mode line. Otherwhise sandbox is pretty much the same just that the appearance of the islands is a lot less linear. (Also there is a big sandbox update planned so keep your eyes out for that) Hope that helps4 points

The mutation menu is one way. And you can always just not breed with derp snout nichelings Or you can learn to like derp snout since it can be useful in other ways. It gives distasteful appearance, so predators will be detoured.4 points

Well, here it is, a bit late, yes, but here it is! Who is it? IT'S MERINGUE! @Skysplash8 Sorry I couldn't get this done by Christmas! I was on break in California, and couldn't do it by then! I'm actually super proud of this?? It's the longest I've ever spent on drawing something, and it taught me how to draw paws without making them stubs! (Also, if you're wondering where his gems are, I couldn't fit them onto his body without them looking weird. Just imagine they're on the front of his chest and you can't see them from this angle!) the spots were a hell to make and place. I had to do a lot of guesswork on em hshjkddsdld also if you're wondering where he is, he's on whale island. there's someone in the grass...4 points

The console will lead to those bugs but if you exit the game completly after using the console they will not jump to other safe files. They can even help with the console safe file. Usually I recommend after heavy use of the console before skipping the day to exit the game completly and reenter. That fixes a lot of issues3 points

In Sandbox mode all islands are unlocked. In story mode you have to unlock difficulty levels by a long, arduous path. Allright, maybe that's the wrong word. But in my first attempt I got into the infamous island loop - where a northern, harder port just never spawns. It still exists, but isn't dangerous anymore, as whale island let's you escape the loop by traveling anywhere. I recommend starting on whale island, and restarting the game until your starters have claws and big ears if you want the tutorial without the tutorial. However, there are bearyenas and quite a few rogue males along a hoter climate. Very easy, otherwise and you can travel anywhere from it. Just make sure to start with claw and optimally big ears. If you want to experience Adam's island but not deal with story mode, start on crossing and give yourself home immunity with the console. Works for some, doesn't for others.3 points

Hello, I am new to this game so pardon my ignorance. I dislike the frequency of derp snout animals on the islands. I know it's randomly generated, but I don't want my species to become hideous freaks. are there any not incesty ways to avoid this?2 points

Well, there are only two “endings” in story mode which is only affected by whether or not you have the home island immunity gene. The only way to reach the home island in story mode is to continue going north as you need to encounter each challenge island and increase the difficulty of your island as the home island is technically a killer island.2 points
-
You can still play your safe file normally even after 'finishing' the story mode. So it is a rather soft goal. Also something you should be aware of in story mode whale island will only show you islands of the difficulty you already have unlocked. If you find it in story mode without having been to hard or killer islands you will no be able to access them until you have reached them manually through travelling. While travelling the following rule goes: Left port (left from the port you landed on) easier island, right island of same difficulty and up/ norht harder island if there is no north port always go right2 points
-
Only whale island does that. On other islands there are usually two to three ports that lead to different places and always look different.2 points

Thank you both! Sounds like story is the main thing (they did not make it clear that I needed home island immunity at the end, so that's a little frustrating--I'll have to start over after 150 days). When I played sandbox, it did not randomly do the islands. I finished the island I started on (I randomly chose whale island) and then it asked me which island I wanted to go to next, which clued me into it not being the base game. Apparently the goal is kind of unclear, so I might give that as feedback.2 points

Seeing the framerate has nothing to do with bugs. I have a key on my keyboard which turns it on and off (though I always forget which key it is) ^^2 points

You can use console commands for a different snout. I'm used to the derp, but it did take some time. Playing related challenges is a thing, but we all have genes that are just... no. Yellow/black fur for me, so no judgement here. Just remember to exit the game and restart it after messing with a creature's genetics. If you don't when their head size changes, the game will crash and -- possibly -- delete your savefile. Never happened to me, but some have lost a few saves to it. F1+ setgene on PC. (Further points: Also unlocks ancient/bearyena genes when you give them to a creature and restart the game. Might give you unearned achievements on steam. Messing with spawn rates can result in giant, empty patches on some islands, but not on others. Messing with the weather might transport you some odd 1000 days into the future. Changing a creature's gender and letting them have children as both sexes always crashes the game. Rogue males can be impregnated, but not give birth. Making a creature "immortal" with the age command (-999) will make them die in one hit and be eaten by bluebirds. ) Most issues should be fixed in the new update around February. Best wishes for a largely derp-snout free line!2 points

I'm gonna test a bunch of stuff. Please suggest things you want me to test out! It can be things from 'which gene is more dominant, A or B?' to 'can you just not invite Eve in Story mode but progress through the game?' to infinite and beyond. Here's my list for what to test next (will update as I go): Can you not invite Eve in in Story Mode, but keep on playing? Which is more dominant, Yellow Eyes or Violet Eyes? Or are they equally dominant? (Gonna try and test this @Jojo) Which is more dominant, Poison Fangs or Bearyena Snout? (Star Sage) If you IncreaseSpawn PlayerAnimal on Adam's tutorial island, can his family literally live there forever? (Bostonlobstah) Which is more dominant, Gills or Platypus Beak? (Goggles-kun) Which is more dominant, Sabertooth Fangs or Digging Trunk? Which is more dominant, Toxic Body or Lean Body? What does Adam look like with Mask pattern? How often does an sandbox game starting on Oasis begin with water gened starters? Does it only happen when the starters start inside a river? Okay, first up on the list: Can you not invite Eve in in Story Mode, but keep on playing? I'm sad now I've never seen an Eve with Wing Anyways, here we go... and.... Yay! Tis solved! You can totally leave Eve behind without ever inviting her in! It was kinda obvious you could but i wanted to know for sure okay Slot4.nichesave Second up: Which is more dominant, Yellow Eyes or Violet Eyes? Or are they equally dominant? I'm going to stay on the same savefile. Luckily, Adam finds a female (she's so Lame) pretty soon. Here's pics of them with their mutations (gotta show the proof!): First child.. Hm, dominant Yellow Eyes. Second child.. dominant Yellow. Third child only has Black Eyes. Fourth has Dominant Yellow Eyes. I'm going to do two more, then test this on another pair. Fifth has Brown and Yellow Eyes. I wanted to do this without Console, but I reduce Lame's age so that she lives long enough. Sixth is same as Fifth. Seventh has dominant Yellow Eyes. So far, it seems as though Yellow Eyes is more dominant. However, I'm going to test this on another couple, to test this out more. Slot4.nichesave Now we go to a different save. They're so pretty OoO Anyways, I console them so that the female has Violet Eyes and the male has Yellow Eyes. I exited the game immediately so that no glitches will appear. First Child has Dominant Violet Eyes! That's a surprise! More testing then. Second child and Third Child are twins, and both have Dominant Violet Eyes. Fourth child has those same dominant Violet Eyes. Fifth child is the same. (also invited in a wanderer to dig up roots for us) Hmph. This is hard (and fun)! Slot4.nichesave I'm going to try another save, another scenario. This time, each will have Black Eyes, both dominant and recessive, but for their mutations, the female will get Violet Eyes and the male Yellow Eyes. Ahh I love black fur with blue eyes! Sorry Mr. Male I'm cheating in food because then they can focus on breeding and nesting material rather than food. First child- Dominant Violet eyes. Second child is Black and yellow. Third has dominant Violet. Fourth has dominant Violet. Fifth is Black/Yellow and Sixth is Violet/Yellow. Slot4.nichesave Hm. So far: Just mutations, Male-Violet, Female-Yellow = Yellow; Just genes- Male-Yellow, Female-Violet = Violet; Just Mutations- Male-Yellow, Female-Violet =Violet. I think I know how this works. Both Eye colors have the same dominance level. The dominant one depends on the mother. If the mother gives Violet and the father gives Yellow the children will have Violet eyes. Vice versa is true as well. This is also like it is with paws-- the gene on top, which is usually the dominant one, is always the one from the mother. (I saw that through these tests!) So, the answer is: Whichever eye color the mother passes to her child will be the one that is dominant. (between Yellow and Violet eyes) This was so cool to do! Please give me suggestions for more things to test jeez 17 pictures1 point

yo I am in the middle of testing to see if a protective 'city wall' of high defense (armor body + mammoth feet) nichelings would work they also have hammer tail, mega horns and birb beak so that they can collect, hunt, crack and dig they seem to be working on deadly hills so far no damage has been taken. here's everyone trapping a friendly bearyena1 point

Poison fangs is dominant I believe Could you test out and see if you IncreaseSpawn PlayerAnimal on Adam's tutorial island, his family could literally live there forever?1 point
-
I'd suggest testing Poison Fangs and Bearyena Snout, but I'm 90% sure it has the exact same situation as the eyes.1 point

I started playing the story mode and when I died, I tried again. But there is no way to turn the tutorial off, so I wondered if the story mode was just a tutorial. If so, I wish the sandbox was more random. I want to play the game without a tutorial and where the islands are random. It seems weird that there are only difficulties for the sandbox.1 point

Elimination round! Fawn vs Sira and all the males against each other! That’s just an idea though1 point
-
Then in that case they should definitely at least hint at the home island immunity gene being useful1 point

I had the same happen to me. I used the console for an experiment on DH and didn’t leave completely. I got some weird bugs. Deleted save. Started again on DH and got the endless night and eyes closed like you said. The next day I tried again this time on WI and it was fine. Your best bet is to leave and come back WITHOUT moving that creature. Just use the console, STOP, exit, come back, then do whatever. It works for me very well.1 point

So lately, I've been reading Watership Down, and there it is often mentioned that does can reabsorb their unborn kittens, if the conditions aren't the best. I remembered that rats can do that to, and (according to the internet) even cats have this ability. They do this (reabsorbing the fetuses) if there’s too much danger to raise them (excessive population, not enough food, too many predators around). So, this thing exists in nature - how would it be in niche? I don't know what type of gene it would be, I imagine it along the lines of the blood clotting gene, and not as a body part. Maybe you guys have a good idea? Now, how would you obtain it? Well, since it makes rogue males look like idiots, since you can just reabsorb the unwanted baby, I think that your tribe has to suffer the full rogue male curse first. Meaning, that your females not only have to get pregnant - but they have to give birth to the babies. I'd say that about 50 rogue male babies will have to get born if you want to obtain the gene. So, tell me what you think about this idea.1 point

A lot of this you can do through the upgrades; accuracy and damage upgrades can provide you with a ralgun-like weapon, (though a strike-through upgrade would be needed to complete the set) for instance. I think the whole concept of Nimbatus is that rather than providing ready-made solutions to every need, the player is given very basic tools from which they can make just about anything they want. If you want stun bullets, you can add ice element to them, if you want to knock enemies around, you can use the impact force and zero-damage upgrades, if you want ICBM-style bullets, fix your weapons outwards, and use guided rockets. (Though guidance currently kind of sucks.) Weapons with electrical behavior are one thing that can't really be replicated with what's at hand. I suggested bringing back the 'spark' particles from the alpha demo to help with that, perhaps as a distinct weapon type with access to different upgrades with an electrical theme. In short, I think I would prefer to see more upgrades, so you can make these weapons be whatever you want them to be. The whole theme of the game is to use very simple parts to create very powerful and sometimes very complex behavior. (Though I agree that more diversity is needed in some basic parts, such as engines and shields.)1 point

OKay so it's been a long time, so this will just show some of the most important events that have happened over the past like 20 days. I promise the next one will be more in depth, but my tribe is up to 30+ members, I'm working on whittling it down to 20-25, by slowly poisoning all the elders and limiting the number of children ok here goes... This cutie is born. Her name is Doe. I love her. The rogue males continue to wreak havoc, frequently getting the unattended women pregnant. Moley spends her last day surrounded by her sisters and daughters. A bearyena shows up right next to Fawn and her newborn baby, Tatata. Such bad luck! I skip the day and a lot happens. A rogue male gets Doe pregnant (everyone stares at them, even baby Tatata), A little red baby peacock shows up and is invited in, and the bearyena retaliates and is then killed. The baby cries from the trauma, saying that his mother was killed protecting him from the bearyena. He says his name is Kunu Fancyroot. A brown spotted peacock appears, probably little Kunu's long lost uncle. His name is Rovan Plumeclaw. An angry mother bearyena and her cub show up, in the same exact place as where my first bearyena and cub showed up so many days ago (day 20 to be exact). She's probably mad that we killed her husband back on day 45. Everyone pitches in to kill the mother. Creme is killed by the bearyena, and Rovan Plumeclaw takes severe damage due to his hemophilia. Understanding that even though he is young he does not have long to live, he takes Fawn II as a mate. ...And also this bearyena comes as well. Probably an Uncle Bearyena. (The albino birb is Spirit Swiftwing's younger brother, Spectre. He won't be breeding due to sucky fertility.) Spectre lures it towards where all the stronger nichelings are. ...Yet another peacock appears, this time a pretty female. Her name is Rere Blossomtail. She becomes mates with the younger Tatata and they have two derpy kids. Spectre calls on a stump, and a bright red male comes sliding over whilst facing backwards. His name is Taduk Moonwalk, and rightfully so. He falls in love with young Doe. Midnight has some clawed twins. WhOa heck yes His name is Vanrokir Venomsting. ANOTHER peacock!? wth His name is Rokirnu Fanskip. After Rovan's death, Fawn II takes on a second mate. And their first child-- sCREAMS she's so precious aaaaa her eyes and the big circles Our friendly bearyena is cornered so the little brown half-bearyena can backcross bread. Fawn II dies giving birth to Fierce Stingstep. Another little scorpion kid steps out of the hot grasses. Her name is Laanaana Poisonstripe. (That is a mouthful!) I think she will become mates with Fierce. (also that brown newborn is the result of daughter-father bearyena incest. She unlocked bearyena ears but won't breed). again once I shrink the tribe a little bit I will make my playthrough a bit more in depth1 point

Sorry, didn't mean to rain on this; I'm all for it of course, provided there is more going on. We here have been kind of 'painting inside the lines' in a lot of our suggestions, but I suspect the devs might have some ideas they're keeping under wraps regarding the game's evolution that will also change the parameters of what makes sense.1 point

My only goddess is Anameme, the goddess of Well Being, who seems to always appear during times of peril to help and often save the tribes. She is always reincarnated with a red-ish or brown-ish fur colour. I have no pictures, but the original had a sniffer snout (thats what I call them lol), a claw, and a velvet paw. The first time she came was as a wanderer to save us from a bearyena, and the second was as a started nicheling. After that I can't remember, but she continues to appear every once and a while. Hopefully I can add more Gods and Goddesses soon, I'll just have to wait for some to appear!1 point

For @Takoyaki I'm so sorry this is late! I was busy for the first few days and I coloured over the wrong layer and noticed halfway through colouring. oof. This is also my first time shading with the airbrush so apologies if the shading looks a bit choppy in places. I'm also remaking the background and posting it in the replies (I made this simpler background so I could get this posted as soon as possible)1 point

Burrowing Owboa (or just Owboa) A combination of a Burrowing Owl and a Jerboa. It looks like a burrowing owl with Jerboa ears, tail, and legs (except it has talons). Can both fly and walk on the ground. Would eat small prey and berries (or whatever the desert equivalent will be), steal meat, and steal babies! This would be the Bluebird alternative (I call them bluebirds okay)!1 point

I know this is an older comment, but given what the Rogue males do to the females, I'd say the kids can handle cannibalism.1 point

I'm also working on doing an old version playthrough, gotta say I truly miss the old eyes texture. So beautiful with all of the colors.1 point

Hello there! I'm new here! (Hopefully this is how I make a post because I've never done any of this before haha) My name is Nyssa, and I'm an avid Niche fan! I'm fairly new to the game, having only started early 2018, but I love the direction the game is heading in and the current build already. I hope that I can be a part of this awesome community with you all! ^^ I have a bunch of ideas that are mostly weird and probably not at all functional, but I'm still gonna post about them in the features section :b Ok, well, thats me, byeeeee!1 point
