  1. I love Whale Island too...First time I went I nearly starved but got back on track. The other times I went, I have been very lucky and successful. I love the abundance of bearyenas that provide some challenge. Not so much the rogues... my favorite islands are Grass Mingle and grass adventure, oasis, and whale island. I probably would like the snow islands too (I’m about to go there prepared for the first time!) I like archipelago as well, I just wish the islands were more varied each time instead of the exact same shape.

  2. When I've done my challenge tribes on Long Winter, both times only spawned one permanent nest

  3. Just how do they tell each other apart?

  4. I would like yalls opinions on which islands are easiest/hardest... 1. When you start out on that island in sandbox mode 2. When you are prepared to come to that island for example if I were to rank some islands... 1. Tiny Green 2. Peaceful Meadow 3. Archipelago (except for the deep water) 4. Grass Adventure 5. Grass Mingle 6. Whale Island etc Ok your turn! Rank the islands as best you can based on your experiences.

  5. I chose Long Winter to be harder because there's only one tile of water and the rabbil glitch. Summer Mountains because there's more grass(which is easier. Overgrown Jungle has no water, and in the Deep Jungle creatures can catch fish, cool down or grab a water healing fruit to escape from an ape. And Home Island is sort of hard if you start on it, because Adam's tribe members always steal the food (unless your nichelings have cracking ability). Just so you know I made this list quite quickly, so there might be times where I put an easier island under a harder island.

  6. 1: Peaceful Meadow (the reason i put this higher than tiny green is because it's literally tiny green but bigger, so there's more food) 2: Tiny Green 3: Crossing 4: Archipelago 5: Grass Adventure 6: Grass Mingle 7: Whale Island 8: Summer Mountains 9: First Snow 10: Home Island 11: Jungle Gate 12: Swampy Hill (unless the tribe have poison resistance) 13: Oasis 14: Deadly Hills 15: Rainforest 16: Sleepy Reeds (same as Swampy Hill, much easier with poison resistance) 17: Burning Savanna 18: Frost Lands 19: Long Winter 20: Deep Jungle 21: O V E R G R O W N J U N G L E

  7. I think you might have caused most of the bugs due to your console use but going to whale island sounds good. Or going left and then right sometimes fixes the island loop. About the long winter I don't know, probably no fix there but 99% sure that it has to do with the console use.

  8. If this feature was added there would be ‘kidnapper’ nichelings. These could be male or female and they want a child REALLY badly. They could be infertile or just never found a mate. If one of your baby nichelings is unguarded they could swoop in and snatch it just like the bluebird. They would take the baby somewhere on the island. If you hit the kidnapper hard enough or kill it you’ll get you baby back. It would have the red border if you sense it by hearing or smell (just like the rogue male). They would probably appear in harder islands, where there’s more danger. I got this idea from how many times I release a nichelings and they go to a nest where a newborn baby is. I always think ‘what’s if their gonna kidnap it?’ These nichelings could Maybe be even ones you’ve released. It would add some extra fun and danger into the game.

  10. Honestly love the whale island-- it allows for experimentation with genes due to the endless food it provides (if you don't want to use console) and you can have so many creatures! Plus I just love the layout of the island. It's also very pretty!

  11. So I returned to home island. No loops, no crabbit army, no rogues in trees. As standard as can be, in other words. And then there was this guy. Recessive scorpion tail. And yet another one... This one with another tail gene: Am I crazy or do they usually only have fluffy tail?

  12. Last I went to Long Winter, there were only 2 nests. That island was crawling with glitches. Such as no snow or rabbils at all. A common bug here apparently is rabbits don’t spawn until the snow melts...well there’s no snow either.

  13. Alright, so I've seen some suggests asking for some type of creature creator/demo mode or whatever. I have been working on this for a while and I thought I'd make a new post since there's a lot more than just "A demo mode". This is gonna be mostly made up of pictures from what I call "Tutorial Mode" and I'll leave a link to a page with pictures without the text from tutorial mode. So first you can access this mode from the home screen like so: And then you would start at the creature creator (and to turn on tutorial mode you do this first (tutorial mode can be either be functional just with the yellow text or an example that goes away after you click)): Which can take you to either the creature list or the select mate screens which look like (also note that the scroll on the right on all screens is not accurate, and is just there to display its existence): (Where you can import creatures from save files like this: ) And confirming a breed brings you to the offspring list which is: Where there are trait statistics and custom filters (list of traits made by @Aysling here: https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/626-nicheling-sort-filter-and-select/&page=0#comment-2030) : Or you can go to the punnett square: And from anything outside of the creature lists, you can go to the gem colors (which you can find individually here: https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/646-customizable-and-programmable-gem-colors/) And the color cycle looks like this: And after all of that, you could use the creatures you used to start in sandbox mode like this: (Picture in production) So yea, that's all of it. Please let me know of any mistakes I might have made since this was a lot or of any logical inconsistencies. If you want to see the pictures without the text from tutorial mode, you can go to this link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/16dVKParfTHqHpSsuPD_UA_6cozEJ94_4Wtxpff6lIsE/edit?usp=sharing

  15. For me it'd be.. 1. Tiny Green 2. Peaceful Meadow 3. Crossing 4. Grass Adventure 5. Archipelago 6. Oasis 7. Summer Mountains 8. Rainforest 9. Grass Mingle 10. Burning Savannah These are the 10 easiest islands for me

  16. Interesting. I totally forgot about Crossing. And I agree with you about peaceful meadow and tiny green now that I think about it. May I ask why you put Long Winter above Frost Lands (the rabbil glitch I assume?), Summer Mountains above First Snow, and Overgrown jungle over deep jungle? And why Home Island is harder than I assumed? Is it Adam's hostile family?

  17. I tried the Whims challenge before, and since I actually didn’t know or care about the rules I failed. I mean, I didn’t look at their genes, but I didn’t do anything like control the population count using a number generator or stuff like that. Oops

  18. All of the males were chestnut brown/chestnut brown, yes. Females were usually chestnut brown/red, or chestnut brown/black. The first one we found was chestnut brown/yellow. (My favorite!) also wierd, I don’t think I noticed any pure chestnut brown females ... Edit: Found one! idk if these rules are followed as strictly if they appeared with the IncreaseSpawn PlayerAnimal console command. I messed with that command early on in the save but idk if the command works on the other islands???

  19. Were they always that shade of brown? I don't spend much time there, but they just seem different. The peacock tailed guy also had recessive violett eyes.

  20. How do you figure out what your government issued warrior name is? Also, I tried the quiz and got Graystripe, but the 'definition' did not match the answers that I put, so I took it again and changed one answer and got Crowfeather, then I tried it once more with the same answers and got Graystripe.

  21. As would be expected with such danger surrounding him, the poor unnamed kit was quickly snatched up by one of the many nearby birds in the sky, though Faith's Chosen could not find too much sorrow or guilt in his heart for the child. Meanwhile, having all faced the harsh, energy draining cold of the approaching winter, it is with wonder that SwiftCurrent and Salvation discover the healing magic of the newest member of the tribe. Kirvan tells them of the tribe members they had never met, and the way a defenceless kit was abandoned to the fates, a particularly harrowing act to Salvation, who had been tasked with caring for SwiftCurrent at such a young age. As Kirvan sings his healing songs through the night, Salvation feels a powerful draw towards the kind and mysterious creature, encased in ice as SwiftCurrent's father had been, but with the opposite of his curse. In the other half of the tribe, a tragedy has befallen Isis. In her haste to escape the peril that stole her first child, she has grown too tired to build her nest, and will pass away without her dreams of a family built from love ever being achieved. Salvation and Kirvan's first kit is also born with Salvation's all important double digging paw. With Salvation's permission, SwiftCurrent asks if Kirvan would help her try and keep the gift of flight alive in their tribe, to which Kirvan agrees. Meanwhile, things look grim for Faith's Chosen and his wanderer friend. Surrounded on all sides and too cold to do more than swipe at the nearest fox a few times, Faith's Chosen reflects on his choices in life and the path he has walked. He does not know about the other tribe mates that the strange ice bound creature went to join and believes his path here will lead to the end of his family's line and legacy.

  22. Kits are being born left and right! Here's all the litters. Silverditch becomes the mate of Goldenbeach. They have 4 kits- Fawnlake, Loudbriar, Darksun, and Branchsky. Fawnlake- the beige female- is quirky and modest. Loudbriar- the yellow male- is kind and has a strong sense of standing up for what is right. Darksun, the brown she-kit, is kind but lonely. Branchsky, the light tomkit, is brave and likes to wrestle. Gardencove mates with Gladetrooper. They have 1 kit- Flamehorns. Flamehorns is hardy, gentle, and always tries to be the best warrior he can be. Redmuzzle mates with Oddadder. They have 1 kit- Nettleclay. Nettleclay is a bit arrogant. However, he doesn't let it show, aside from the occasional condescending comment. Farwatcher once again mates with Wonderstar- They have 3 kits this time- Dayfluff, Lividbrook, and Leaftumble. Dayfluff, the yellow eldest yellow she-kit, is serious, responsible, and determined. Lividbrook, the red she-kit, is sarcastic and a bit bitter. Leaftumble, the youngest kit, is known for being bold. Wonderstar moves on to his fourth life.

  23. Wonderstar moves on to his second life. After some courting, Dayshelter FINALLY agrees to being Angelsnow's mate. They have a litter of three kits, but only the youngest survives- Hallowedserpent, Hallowedserpent is calm, collected and a bit smug. He is named for his stealthy way of hunting. Dayshelter dies. Distraught, Angelsnow retires into himself. Now alone, Hallowedserpent searches for someone new to talk to and finds a friend in Heatherrod. They hit it off, and soon become mates. Heatherrod has two kits- Gladetrooper and Oddadder. Gladetrooper, the male, is jolly and relaxed and loves going on any sort of adventure. Oddadder, the female, is smug. She doesn't quite take anything seriously and loves to mess with others. Wonderstar moves on to his third life. The clan is joined by a wanderer female named Farwatcher. She seems arrogant , but is really just quiet and careful with her words. Wonderstar, who hasn't had a mate for many moons, finds himself drawn to Farwatcher. He takes her on as his new mate. They have a litter of three! - Redmuzzle, Gardencove and Goldenbeach. Redmuzzle, the only tomkit of the litter, is quiet, confident, and protective of his younger sisters. Gardencove is careful, kindhearted, and hospitable. Goldenbeach is brave and intelligent, but rather shy. The clan is also joined by a handsome wanderer named Silverditch. Sociable, relaxed, and energetic, he gets along well in the clan.

  24. Ohhh...crossing is a HARD island! YESS I thought it was killer! Now if only I could find Whale Island...

  25. The thing is, I've never been to a Killer island. Can you get to crossing if you've been on a hard island?

  26. I went to Home Island as an experiment, and here's what I found: - ALL the females had chestnut brown fur + random color, and black pattern + random color. ALL the males were pure chestnut brown/black. Weird.

  27. I just noticed, but all males have the exact same shade of brown: The females only have fluffy tail, too.

  28. sooo, two nichelings, eh? Matador! Yes, I know what his name means, my father was in the room when he was born and I had him name the children sooo. Matador was the first creature with toxic body in my Whims Of Fate/Annini's Gifts tribe. He had several children, one of which is the purple beauty is the background (who is with her new mate). Poison Fangs is a big blessing in the Annini's Gifts tribe, as the mutation for it is not yet unlocked, and has only been kept in the tribe by breeding very carefully (the gene was originally obtained from a few wandering males), though it always seems to pop back up when I think it's gone forever. Matador's precious fangs are still in the tribe today. Oz, god of Green Toxic Body. He was found by a member of Berri's tribe, where Berri was sent back to the mortal world to learn that beauty isn't everything. The nicheling who found Oz was a pretty daughter of Berri named Rose. Rose was calling out on a stump in hopes of finding a mate, and soon came Oz. He kinda tricked me because his paws are clutched right against his body, so at first I though he was glitched out and didn't have any paws. Her nearly became the god of Trickery for that, but I realized a nicheling from the past, Mekoko, fitted the job much better. Anyways, a few days after Oz came, Rose called out again on her stump with her and Oz's child at her feet, and out came Oz's daughter, Zelena. Zelena also had green Toxic Body, along with antenna, and recessive platypus beak.

  30. The heavy snow makes it difficult to move, but now fully grown, CloudStream is proud to help his father collect food for the tribe. As they scavenge, a fellow wanderer appears before the small tribe, however, before she can be invited to join them, she disappears The distant sound of foxes makes LightningSwift fear for the wanderer, though she looked strong, she was still alone, while the foxes travelled in a pack Somewhere, the sound of a creature crying out in pain could be heard, only confirming LightningSwift's fears. Though now grown, she cautioned her children to be wary of the foxes. The presence of a strange and unwelcome creature caused the small tribe to fear for their food supply. Through more food was in sight, every morsel was precious and not to be wasted Even worse than the persistent visitor was the sudden appearance of a bear just like the one that had forced them to leave their planned home A situation that had once seemed so hopeful was now fraught with terror. With a threat lurking at every corner,, would this little family never find the peaceful mountain home they sought?

  32. Pippi has had her child from her old love Olaf. She names him Nico. First Cracker jaw we've had in a while. Rala the rouge baby goes looking for her father as soon as she is old enough. (Pretty sure he drowned a while ago...) Lola dies of old age. Button and Porto decide to start a family. Button receives blind eyes from the Whims and Good Eyes from me. Porto receives Chestnut fur from the Whims and Toxic Body from me. AutumnStag and Cremini have had their Heir, a lovely double digging pawed girl named Mythra Porto and Button have had a daughter. She looks almost identical to her father. Can't think of a name for her. Also, Olaf has returned for one more day with Pippi. they will have another child together. I keep hearing beareynas so it's time to go...

  36. Interesting. It might indeed be tied to Whale Island but it is hard to say without being sure if the same issue persists in your game without going to whale island. I (luckily) never had the loop issue but I never pursued Story Mode enough to go that far more than once.
    1 point
  37. I don't see how that is connected to whale island though? Or do you mean you only found whale island ports? From your first post it 'just' sounded like you were stuck in an island loop (which was previously 'cured' by going left and then up at the next opportunity (might not work anymore)
    1 point
  38. That much is obvious, but it locked me from discovering new islands after leaving the island. That's the issue. What happened after leaving Whale island, not the port choice on Whale island. Assuming that this isn't too common (I have found others with the same issue) and the island was moved in tier, it might just be fixed. Or some games are cursed. I remember downloading the add- ons for dragon age and item names and voices were missing. At least I could fix that by myself.

  39. No, I meant that after I left whale island in story mode, no ports of higher difficulty showed up in the game. There was no northern port from there on, nowhere. Nowhere, as in, I traveled to all of the limited available islands nowhere. I'd have to check if this bug is still in the game, though. The difficulty of whale island was moved, so it shouldn't be a problem? Still confuses me how they got to crossing, that can usually only be done in Sandbox mode or after being on crossing once, but why mention it then? See, it's clear contradiction. Anyway, this wouldn't have gotten me riled up, but the same thing happened with my first tribe. Hope I won't see it again.
    1 point
  40. It's not a bug. You're not supposed to get to harder islands from whale island in story mode
    1 point
  41. You had access to crossing? Whale island gives me a bug every time in story mode -- without fail -- that results in ports to harder islands being unable to spawn. I can't travel to harder islands, either, via Whale island. I'd have to test if this is still the case and report the bug sometime, so your input would be really helpful.

  42. I really love the Summer Mountains to start on. They provide the selective pressure for a headstart and allow one to directly go to the killer cold biome to unlock the mega. horns, digging truck or armored body. Not to mention the abundance of food.

  43. The mountain islands, especially Frost Lands. Each time I bring a tribe there, I experience a new adventure. It's quite fun!
    1 point
  44. It could work like this: When travelling to a new island it could give you a second question after agreeing to the first: "Do you wish to make a new savefile for this island? Yes No" And if you pick yes and all your save files are full, it will tell you "Could not find open save file. Do you wish to delete one? Yes No" If you pick yes it takes you to a menu where you can select one to delete. Your new save file immediately replaces the old one.

  45. Personally, I would make it a different kind of gamemode (like story mode or sandbox). You start off normally, but you can easily customize your Nichelings. This would also give easy success to commands (old and new), like Give Food, Give/Take Age, etc. Maybe even one wheree you can choose a different island to go too, then select some of your creatures (probably with a limit like 15 or something).
