  1. My list of the hardest biomes! Hardest: anything to do with the jungle Easiest: Everything else

  2. @Condorflight The error "Fatal error in GC,Too many heap sections" means that the game ran out of memory. The only thing you can do to make Niche use less memory, is to set the Animal Pattern Resolution to the minimum in the graphic settings, this will make the Nichelings look a bit blurry but the game should use much less memory because it does not have to store large textures. I hope this helps!

  3. Little late to the party, but I wholeheartedly agree that the purr snout in it's current state is creepy :D Someone said it kinda looks like a fox for than a cat. I love cats and hope to see that soft adorable kitten look someday in Niche... For me the whiskers look kind of jarring, like to poor things have been victims of porcupine attack! D:

  4. I'm always hesitant to breed Purr Snout in, not because of what it does (it's very useful,) but it's because it spooks me. Just... look at this... It's even scarier with black eyes x_x I'm sure a lot of people don't find it scary, I just thought this would be an interesting discussion: does anyone else think Purr Snout is spooky?

  7. So... I just wanted to say we should have winter tails. Since we already have medium tails it would only make sense to have a winter tail to keep the nichlings warmer (Kinda looking like a fox tail). Possibly tiny tails- like a little Bobcat tail. I dunno. It would be cute. ...

  8. The tribe is heading across the archipelago. Along the way, they bump into the most beautiful not-pink nicheling they have ever seen. Her name is Dragon Tear II (since her pattern is off OOF) and she knows the archipelago well. Bostonlobstah asks her if she could help to guide them to the next island. Dragon Tear II says yes, so she leads them to the last island in the archipelago chain. Meanwhile, the Forgotten Ones who were left behind on the first island have grown old without Bostonlobstah's magic. Pippin is the first fatality after 74 days. After saying goodbye to everyone being left behind, 10 nichelings move on to their first Medium-level island: Adam 2.0, Bostonlobstah, Stacey, Sense, Sensibility, Snowchild, Avrie, Adeline, Poozie and Frosty. The tribe finds themselves in a strange new land--with a huge and odd--looking port on the side.

  11. Unrelated, but you need our help, eh? Attention all Niche Gamers, Bostonlobstah is in great danger, and she needs YOUR help to get out of the island loop. To do this, she needs the island directions so she can mortalize Bostonlobstah again. To help her, all she needs is your credit card number, the three numbers on the back, and the expiration month and date. But you gotta be quick so that Bostonlobstah can secure the bag, and achieve the epic H O M E I S L A N D F L E X

  13. Maybe the head would allow you to howl, which you can do at a tree stump, just like calling. Instead of attracting a mate, however, It could scare off larger predators and rogue males, or decrease the spawn rate of them for a short amount of time. Also, I personally think that the smelling should only be +3 smelling, since the big nose is canine-like and only gives you +3 in that stat.

  14. HOW DARE YOU INSULT MAH CAT BABIES Why do my bears keep giving birth to cats?!

  15. Perhaps choose the jungle, But i'd recomend just shutting the game off, and then turning it back on then getting away from console. Perhaps just try to survive on home island w/out home isle immunity? (Just to pass some time, I find that works) I've never had that weather glitch (Probably because I rarely check the antennae forecast) but the jumpto weather command WONT WORK it'll just break your game even more I think it'll register as winter no matter what so just try that??? (Purely theory)

  16. I once messed with berry bush spawnrates and the deadly hills were nearly empty. Some island might really just react in ways others don't. Hadn't thought of that, thanks.

  18. I chose Long Winter to be harder because there's only one tile of water and the rabbil glitch. Summer Mountains because there's more grass(which is easier. Overgrown Jungle has no water, and in the Deep Jungle creatures can catch fish, cool down or grab a water healing fruit to escape from an ape. And Home Island is sort of hard if you start on it, because Adam's tribe members always steal the food (unless your nichelings have cracking ability). Just so you know I made this list quite quickly, so there might be times where I put an easier island under a harder island.

  19. 1: Peaceful Meadow (the reason i put this higher than tiny green is because it's literally tiny green but bigger, so there's more food) 2: Tiny Green 3: Crossing 4: Archipelago 5: Grass Adventure 6: Grass Mingle 7: Whale Island 8: Summer Mountains 9: First Snow 10: Home Island 11: Jungle Gate 12: Swampy Hill (unless the tribe have poison resistance) 13: Oasis 14: Deadly Hills 15: Rainforest 16: Sleepy Reeds (same as Swampy Hill, much easier with poison resistance) 17: Burning Savanna 18: Frost Lands 19: Long Winter 20: Deep Jungle 21: O V E R G R O W N J U N G L E

  20. As much as I hate it, when my nichelings get a derp snout, I think it's important for the gameplay. As the derp snout is no health or functional issue, only a beauty problem, we have to choose, whether we want to get rid of the derp snout or rather blindness, crippled paws or hemophilia. That makes the game challenging and let us think about, what is more important to us, beauty or functional issues.

  21. I have grown to love the current pattern system again One thing I miss about old niche colors is the variety of grey tones. We had white (grey+grey), light grey (grey+black), dark grey (black+black), blue-grey (black+black, propably a glitch) and a pure black (melanism). Now we have white, grey and black. We could have more variety, if a middle grey fur color was added. Mixing it with white or black would allow having light grey and dark grey coats. For uses... I don't know. Not all fur colors add to camoflauge, but maybe this could allow hiding next to stones? Or maybe not. It's just an idea. I mainly want this for cosmetic reasons. I miss my blue-grey boy Kirnu from my first tribe. That color was pretty common, but Kirnu is the only invidual nicheling I remember with it. IT WAS AROUND THE TIME OF THE JUNGLE UPDATE AND I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO TAKE SRCEENSHOTS BACK THEN, OKAY?!

  22. Alright, so I've seen some suggests asking for some type of creature creator/demo mode or whatever. I have been working on this for a while and I thought I'd make a new post since there's a lot more than just "A demo mode". This is gonna be mostly made up of pictures from what I call "Tutorial Mode" and I'll leave a link to a page with pictures without the text from tutorial mode. So first you can access this mode from the home screen like so: And then you would start at the creature creator (and to turn on tutorial mode you do this first (tutorial mode can be either be functional just with the yellow text or an example that goes away after you click)): Which can take you to either the creature list or the select mate screens which look like (also note that the scroll on the right on all screens is not accurate, and is just there to display its existence): (Where you can import creatures from save files like this: ) And confirming a breed brings you to the offspring list which is: Where there are trait statistics and custom filters (list of traits made by @Aysling here: https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/626-nicheling-sort-filter-and-select/&page=0#comment-2030) : Or you can go to the punnett square: And from anything outside of the creature lists, you can go to the gem colors (which you can find individually here: https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/646-customizable-and-programmable-gem-colors/) And the color cycle looks like this: And after all of that, you could use the creatures you used to start in sandbox mode like this: (Picture in production) So yea, that's all of it. Please let me know of any mistakes I might have made since this was a lot or of any logical inconsistencies. If you want to see the pictures without the text from tutorial mode, you can go to this link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/16dVKParfTHqHpSsuPD_UA_6cozEJ94_4Wtxpff6lIsE/edit?usp=sharing

  23. Right now albinism in niche is a desirable gene due to it's beutiful looks, even tough it removes all camoflauge. In real life albino animals have a really small change of surviving. They lack protection from UV and have bad eyesight. I have had rats with red eyes, and they all had bad eyesight. (I haven't had an albino rat, but many colors like marten come with red eyes.) So my suggestion is to edit following stats on albino nichelings: remove all heat recistance make it so that albino nichelings can only have blind or shortsighted eyes This is just to make the game more realistic. Albinism is currently too easy to survive with. If a lot of people don't want it, we could make it a sandbox option! Related suggestions: GO VOTE ALL OF THEM!!! https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/3201-albinism-and-melanism-give-camouflage-stats/ https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/3173-piebaldism-in-niche/ https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/2160-albino-wildlife🐁/&page=0#comment-6490 https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/2801-albinos-have-pink-noses/&page=0#comment-10564 https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/2297-albinismmelanism-in-mutation-menu/&page=0#comment-7357

  25. #1: Stinger Tail ((Name by Redknight910!) - Adds +1 strength and poison damage! [nicheling on the far right] #2: Prehensile Tail - Adds ability to climb trees, which would increase sight more than standing on a tree trunk. Or, I suppose, add +1 gathering? [nicheling on far left] #3: Flashy Tail (Name by Redknight910!) - Adds intimidation to scare away predators/rogue males/wanderers/rabbils/dodomingos. [nicheling on the far right] #4: Tricky Tail - When you are being attacked, the first hit does no damage. (Maybe if the enemy is blind, it will either not be fooled or be fooled so good no attacks do damage?) #5: Blubber Tail - This is modeled after leopard geckos, and it would give them three days of not starving when there's no food before they start to starve. #6: Sweet Tail (Or Berry Tail? Or Bush Tail?) - This is my idea for a tail that would look kinda like a berry bush in order to attract whatever npc's are attracted to berry bushes, like rabbils and wanderers. To really get that berry bush look, it'll have a color scheme separate to the nicheling, being either brown (drought bush/withered bush) or green (healthy bush) randomly like how the Toxic Body is random colors, always having pink spots to represent berries. I also couldn't decide what shape (berry bush or withered bush) to use, so I used both; let me know which one you like better!

  30. Hello everybody! I apologize for the inactivity in drawing art and more nichelings but here's a sketch I did as a warmup before I started on the super late secret Santa I'm supposed to do, haha! Worry not the person I'm drawing for is aware of my delay ^^ (You might be able to see that my style on anthros changed a lot although not much changed about my style on ferals)

  33. Man, it's been forever since I've visited the forums! But now that I'm here, I wanted my first comment to address both of you! Bostonlobstah, I agree with you- having the middle segment be the pattern color while the top and bottom are normal fur color makes a lot more sense than my idea XD And Skysplash8, I'm sorry I didn't fully understand the error of my ways until now I might make some new art of this body concept, but I'm not sure whether I would post it here on this chat or somewhere else. Either way, I'll make sure it looks like the more logical pattern-color instead of what I was doing before. Besides: it gives way more options for cuteness!

  34. Wouldn't a full hybrid have 9 strenght? 4 (paw) 2 (hindlegs+body) +3 (snout. ) Not sure about the speed bonus. Balance bears are incredibly slow. Paws with speed seem more fitting to a ramfox hybrid, not the slowest entity in the game.

  37. But they don't actively seek out a fight. They may utilize their quills in an offensive manner when being attacked, but they are doing so to protect themselves, which therefore makes it a defense mechanism

  38. This will be added in the next update ^^ (With a maximum of 10 Nichelings)

  39. I think it would be awesome to have the option to toggle the genes on and off so that we can play a "blind genes mode" in which we can't look at the genes our nichelings are carrying, to make the game more interesting and challenging. That way we could look at the family tree and change nichelings' names without having to look at the genes. It could also be activated or deactivated during the game, that way, for example, you could set yourself a goal and once you reach it you can toggle on the genes and look at them. What do you think?

  40. The green one is for jungle and grassland. It's a kind bear, that will only become angry if you attack it. It wanders around and eats grass. You can give it nesting material, then it will hang around for a while. Bearyenas and apes are scared of it, so keeping it around is useful ^^

  41. I like the idea, thanks for putting a link to my suggestion The only thing I would change though, I think that no heat resistance and sun sensitivity are not the same thing. A nicheling can still get sun exposure on frost lands for example. What I propose is instead of reminding heat resistance, they get a new stat that makes them more sun sensitive. This means that albinos would have some sort of debuff when it is not raining and they aren’t under shade or in the water. Alternatively, sunny days can vary in amount of sun exposure. This would be harder to implement I imagine because weather with different amounts of clouds would be at play.

  42. Honestly, why is there a 30 food creature that dies in one hit? Other that, tho, this sound great! You might even be able to breed with friendly badger bats.

  43. Okay, last two suggestions, I swear! Tomorrow is the end of all of this anyways so I'm just throwing these out here for fun mostly. Orcolf: Orca/Wolf Habitat: The water and the beach tiles, especially in the Archipelago. Behavior: They stay underwater all over the place, be it shallow or deep, and the females will sometimes have a male baby next to them you can tame once the mother is dead. The tamed male will wander into the water and proceed to have the same behavior as all males, but won't attack your nichelings. This does however mean that in order to breed with one you'll have to do a little swimming. They can come onto the beach, but they only do so in order to chase prey that jumps out of the water. They don't go further than the beach tiles. Orcolf Head, orca mouth with wolfy head shape and orca smoothness, +1 strength, +1 smelling, +1 underwater breathing Slick Ears, looks like medium ears but totally rounded and smooth without the 'inner ear dip' of the medium ears, +2 hearing, +1 swimming, -1 heat resistence Orcolf Body, wolfy body but smooth like an orca, about the same size as Big Body, +1 defense, +1 swimming, +1 underwater breathing, +1 cold resistence, -1 heat resistence Orcolf Tail, orca shape, +1 strength, +1 swimming Orcolf Legs, wolfy, +2 speed, +1 swimming Orcolf Hind Legs, Meant to be orca-like and wolf-like at the same time, they ended up coming out seal-like, lol, +speed, +2 swimming Normal eyes, gives Mask pattern instead of a fur color. Rhinocereal: Rhinoceros/Leopard Seal Habitat: The water and the beach tiles, especially in colder climates. Behavior: They can be found underwater all over the place, be it shallow or deep, but you will tend to find them basking in the sun on the beach. Females will sometimes have a male baby next to them you can tame once the mother is dead. The tamed male will wander around the beach and shallow water closest to your tribe, and might even scare fish toward your nichelings who may be sitting at the water's edge. Rhinocereal Head, mostly seal-like but with rhino horns, +1 strength, +2 smelling, and temporary water breathing at the same amount of time as the water breathing plants. Inner Ears, looks like there are no ears, +2 hearing, Rhinocereal Body, smooth seal body, +1 defense, +1 swimming, +1 cold resistance, -1 heat resistance, and temporary water breathing at the same amount of time as the water breathing plants. Rhinocereal Legs, definitely rhino-like, +2 speed Rhinocereal Tail, seal shape, cancels out hind legs the way Spiky Body cancels out tails, +1 strength, +2 swimming, +1 speed Normal eyes, and I don't know what fur color or pattern it should pass on to babies. Ideas, anyone?

  44. This would be interesting, but the idea of niche is that you're just a little tribe/pack of critters trying to find a place for themselves, not a race of critters on a path to sapience.

  45. I really like the body effects, particularly the spiky body can't be grabbed. And having sleeping nichelings curl up when they run out of AP would be adorable.

  46. This is such a cool idea! And I really like the frog-rat design, though to be fair the original poster did say they would be part lizard so... maybe a bearded dragon? A monitor lizard might make more sense for the disease effect though
