  2. This game is just awesome! It scratches exactly the itch that I have since Spore, but better. I did not back the Kickstarter because I found it to risky (you never know with software Kickstarters), picked it up in a steam sale instead. I realize that Niche deserves the full prize for the hours of fun I had since. To compensate, I wrote a positive steam review, but if you ever have any add-ons for a few Euros, count me in.

  4. in my winter tribe I had a really cute red and white spotted baby with derp snout and antlers show up, she came out of the grass (this was on summer mountains) and a rogue male was chasing her wherever she went, as she ran away. she was a baby, so maybe she was the rogue male's daughter that was trying to run away?

  7. So.... I wanted to do something weird, and I hadn't found anything like this in the forums or other google searches that encouraged bad breeding... I'm always caught up trying to make perfect genes, and so playing this was actually really refreshing. I had the change to stream this last Friday during the promotional sale on Steam, and I can't remember laughing so much. I hope you guys enjoy this, and I'd love to see your love-children or any suggestions you guys might have in regards to changing the rules or adding clauses etc to them. ^^ ❤️ Kat Kat Tails presents: The Bad Boy Challenge For Niche: A Genetics Survival Game Made specifically for Kat Tail’s first official Niche Steam Stream, the Bad Boy Challenge is meant to be humorous but still challenging for both n00b and pro players. Focused on working around the (usually)useless traits that Rogue Males bring into the mix. In the past, these Bad Boys have been pests, crimes against the genepool, and precious females needed to be protected from them. But no longer! Rebel against your better instincts and get with bad boy Kyle or dangerous Keith, Fabian the rake, and more unforgettable one-night stands! Your parents will never approve of these summer flings, but it just makes the romance all the sweeter. /endcringe Enjoy the hilarity and see what amazing creatures you could create when whirlwind romances take over your nichelings and genetics alike. Rules: 1. If a rogue male enters your territory at least one female must find him irresistible and breed with him. 2. The more aesthetically pleasing your nicheling is (subject to each person playing), the more likely they are predisposed to seeking out a rogue male and to breed with them. 3. If a rogue male is present, no other males may be bred with. 4. Because of rule 3, males under your control may kill rogues in order to win a chance at breeding, but you are not allowed to move your females before your males if you are trying to do so. 5. Males who land the KILLING BLOW on Rogues can be marked and deemed as an even “Badder-Boy”, able to breed with females even if there is a rogue in the territory. 6. If you have a female that is pregnant with a rogue male’s baby, then you do not have to breed another female with them this turn. That being said, the female must have her baby the following day or as soon as you are able to build a nest. No “holding it in”. 7. Since friendly bearyenas are a rarity they can be mated with even if a rogue is present. 8. If there are no rogue males present, you must seek out a tree stump for your females to call out on or leave the island as quickly as you are able. (Rogues do not usually appear on easy islands or breeding islands) 9. For added difficulty, start your game in a hard island or a killer island. Whale Island is also acceptable as the Rogue males tend to appear more frequently there. . ***As a side note, I’ve scoured the internet for anything similar and haven’t seen any like this, so if you could, I would appreciate credit as well as a link to my YouTube channel. Happy gaming! (this is also available in DOCx format if for some reason you need it????) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCn1pvJK0qHwfz35nWQ736pg? 8. ok hi im bored and want to play niche ok? ok lets start I would go with the whole adam's story thing but that's boring so adam is now widowstar, who ran away from his original family with dreams of leading a clan. he ventures into the swamp looking for a challenge, but only finding berries and reeds. widowstar, the self proclaimed leader of widowclan, decides the "responsibe adult thing" to do is to migrate in search of wandering nichelings. arriving on this strange new island, he finds an actual adult (thank god, nobody can trust this kid on his own) called thornwhisper. she's actually very serious and knows her way around, which is a contrast to widowstar, who thinks he is like that but is actually a dumb idiot. thornwhisper tries to get widow "star" to actually be serious, but he runs off, killing a mole. although she is impressed, she also goes to kill a rabbil with ease. both of them are jealous of eachother, especially since widowstar is actually an adult now. time to stop being mean to widowstar. after some more "quality" time spent together, they agree this island is too small to hold the both of them and their urge to adventure, so they migrate to a new island. not before widowstar kills a mole because widowstar. he didn't even get to collect the meat the absolute idiot on the new island, thornwhisper is faced with a nest right in her face next to a berry bush- the perfect spot to raise their first child. widowstar tells this to thornwhisper, but she says: "im already pregnant" dun dUN DUUUUUUNNNN (ok that wasn't a shock at all im just trying to make this playthrough somewhat serious) here we are, on the new island. what will widowstar think of the first child of not only himself, but of widowclan? what will they both think when they end up on another boring grassland island with no challenge? what will they think when they find out this is where they will die and they will stay here forever because their life is only a few weeks long and they are only merely here to produce offspring and pass on their genes and that there is an overlord looking over their whole lives and that their existence is an illusion created for the entertainment of a superior species, laughing as they slowly wither away and die? FIND OUT IN LIKE 10 MINUTES OR SOMETHING BECAUSE IM GONNA CARRY ON PLAYING

  9. So, I keep starting tribes in Long Winter, but they all die. In my sixth tribe, the daughter of the starters was left an orphan, and wandered along the shoreline for shells for a while, since her claw and velvet paw don't help her survive, since there aren't any bunnils. Along the way, she found a rogue, whom she mated with. She also picked up a leech. Soon, the snow melted away,a nd rabbils came out. Instead of getting food, she collected nesting material. Finally, she collected enough to make a nest, but it was her last day. Anyways, she gave birth to a little son. Then, a Balance Bear showed up. Luckily for the baby, a wanderer shoved himself in front of the baby. The bear didn't hit the wanderer, and instead got closer to the child. Unfortunately, the kid had to go get food instead of invite the wanderer in. A few days later, he froze with that same bear hovering over him. R.I.P. Anyways, tell about what other interesting things wanderers do in your tribes!

  10. So, I was looking at some old forum posts, and I found this one talking about Nicheling sapience. Then I read this: They can Form large social groups and A small snippet from a post by @betwixted. I thought, What if I did a challenge revolving around social groups? So here we are. Here are the rules: For the first island, you pick a social group from animal life (Ex: A wolf pack, a herd of elephants, etc.) Then you must try to breed your Nichelings to look like said social group using whatever genes available along with functioning like the chosen social group (this includes hierarchy, breeding, etc. Be as realistic as possible) Once 2 is completed, you will move onto another island with as many creatures as possible. On the new island, split the two up into the first social group and another of your choosing (or you can do a poll ) For the original social group from the first island, you can apply any challenge you want to them to make them more interesting, since you HAVE reached your goal with them. If you have unlocked additional genes that make them look more closely to their real life counterparts, then you can breed those in first. Repeat 1-3, but then you must choose which one to move onto the next island. Once again, either choose yourself or do a poll. And so on and so on. Sorry if it's confusing, I tried my best! Anyway, here's the actual challenge part: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have chosen horses as my social group. My first gene goal is Eyes, as my female starter has Shortsighed Eyes recessive. Also, here are the starters, Hop and Skip. And here's the island. For the horses, a female that is the least strongest out of all females will be the dominant mare. Their mate will be considered the highest-ranking male, but they will have little-to-no power. They will be herbivorous, and usually run away from danger unless young foals are at most 3 tiles close to them, or there is nowhere to run. Foals will be very adventurous, already taking up exploring and collecting ASAP. Horses must take 3 days before they can give birth. Those are the rules for my horses. Hop is an energetic young mare that loves exploring, while Skip is quite the opposite. He knows life doesn't last too long, and has only the basic goals of passing on your genes for his life. Therefore, he convinces Hop of this, and they begin to have a child while also exploring a bit, digging up a root with their hooves and scenting numerous berry bushes nearby. After those 3 days of exploring, Hop has settled in and they have found two food sources. And Jump is born! Since he has completed the gene goal of Eyes, his next gene goal will be No Horns. What is next for this small blossoming herd? Find out in the next update! See ya!

  20. I've started a tribe in story mode some time ago, and now, after about 300 days, I have no clue about their "history". Since this kinda frustrates me, I decided to start a new story mode tribe on another save file, and post it here. This is mainly meant for me, but also for everyone who enjoys reading playthroughs. I will upload irregularly, and I can't say how long it'll take me to reach home island, or if I even manage to reach this goal. Naming ideas for any Nicheling are welcome, so are survival tips. I will also kind of create my own lore, and switch back and forth between the story and my comments. As Adam looks around on the island he dropped onto, fear rises in his chest. He's alone, all alone. There aren't any orange pelts around him, and the sounds of the pack are gone. The familiar chirping, the high, excited cries of the playing kids, the deep call of is mother - the only thing he hears are the reeds, slowly floating in the wind. His siblings, his mother and their warm, calming scent are far away. He feels uneasy, his heart beats loud and irregularly. Being alone isn't something that lies in his nature. It is against her. Adam stumbles over to the next tile, searching comfort in the familiar smell of the berries, as he falls asleep next to them. He awakes the next morning, disorientated and confused. In his dream, he was back on his island, playing under the watching eyes of the adults. His memory starts fading as he notices his hunger. He decides to pick some berries, but the task proves to be hard and tiring. Soon, he decides to sleep again. The next day, he notices a flowery port at the northern end of the island, and curiously makes his way up there. On his way he grows older, and as he sits in front of the long path of stone tiles that lead into the sea, towards a new island, a new home, he's become an adult. He puts his paw onto the first stone, and leaves his island behind him. His old island has long disappeared behind him, and as he starts to feel tired, a breeze brings a bunch of new, unfamiliar smells. His pace fastens and soon he spots an island in front of him. Then, in just a mere second, the sea begins to shake, and so the tiles he stands on. Panicked, Adam runs towards the island, while the stones behind him crumble, and start to sink into the ocean. The ground starts to slip away under his paws, and he jumps- The ground is hard, and the feeling of disorientation and fear remind him of the bird and his dreadful fall. As the pain starts to fade, Adam scrambles onto his shivering legs. He flattens his fur and decides to take a look around. It's an utter shock as his nose discovers the smell of one of his kind. He sniffs once again, this time carefully examining the smell. It's a female, about his age and she's close. Excitement and joy overwhelm him and drive his caution away. The need, the craving for a pack, for a companion is stronger than ever. The female sits still in the grass, waiting for him. Adam approaches her carefully - he has been alone for almost as long as he can remember, and he's not sure how to interact with her. It seems as if she's as alone as he is, since Adam can't find a trace of another animal. He's still kind of wary. The female's head looks strange to him, broad and heavy, not to mention her fur - a strange, shining colour, only occasionally broken by a light brown. Shy, he chirps his name as a greeting towards her. She answers immediately with her name, a deeper, softer sound - she is called Eve. Encouraged by this, Adam offers her some berries that he picked on his old island. The female curiously sniffs at them, then she begins to carefully eat one after another, obviously enjoying the new, unfamiliar taste. As the day starts to come to his end, the two of them lie down next to each other. They touch each others nose and groom the others fur, exchanging their smell in the process, getting to know each other better. I have been writing this for some time now, and I just want to post this, so here I go. Also, I try to take a more realistic approach, as you might have noticed. English isn't my native language, so my writing isn't too good.

  30. I have grown to love the current pattern system again One thing I miss about old niche colors is the variety of grey tones. We had white (grey+grey), light grey (grey+black), dark grey (black+black), blue-grey (black+black, propably a glitch) and a pure black (melanism). Now we have white, grey and black. We could have more variety, if a middle grey fur color was added. Mixing it with white or black would allow having light grey and dark grey coats. For uses... I don't know. Not all fur colors add to camoflauge, but maybe this could allow hiding next to stones? Or maybe not. It's just an idea. I mainly want this for cosmetic reasons. I miss my blue-grey boy Kirnu from my first tribe. That color was pretty common, but Kirnu is the only invidual nicheling I remember with it. IT WAS AROUND THE TIME OF THE JUNGLE UPDATE AND I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO TAKE SRCEENSHOTS BACK THEN, OKAY?!

  31. Share your creepy stories of games! Of course, the creepy thing has to be something that's not intended to happen. So, here's a story of something that happened in WolfQuest today: I joined a Multiplayer game. One pup was already dead, and three other players were there (the journey to the rendezvous site had already begun). After a few minutes of me trying to find a place for us to cross the river, I got a message saying that my pup Umbriel died. Nobody acted like 'oh no!!' except me. I asked what he died from, they said a bear. I noticed that in the top left corner, the paw prints showed that one pup was dead and three were alive. However, the pack stats said that only two were alive. A minute later, I was standing around guarding a pup when a gray pup without a nametag showed up. I asked if anybody else saw it, they said yes. I asked how many pups were alive... they said 3. UMBRIEL THE GHOST PUP EVERYBODY Here's another WolfQuest story somebody I played with right after the above playthrough shared: They joined a multiplayer game. Only one pup was alive. The noticed that by the den, there were four pup nametags: Ato, and three other names I don't remember. The person also saw the actual pups. The pup that was alive was Miki, which is not one of the names of the ghost pups. They asked if anybody else had seen the ghost pups, everybody said no. Apparently they asked about the four ghost pups' names, and somebody said that Ato was the name of a pup in their first playthrough. That story is creepier than mine... What other things have you guys encountered in your games (not just WolfQuest!)?

  36. ok so im back I just played the next few days widowstar and his new mate thornwhisper settle down in their new home, anxiously waiting for the birth of their child. early next morning, they find a tiny child in the nest at thornwhisper's feet. she quietly opens her eyes, revealing pupils that are as dark as the cold abyss of space "nightheart" widowstar mumbled softly. "lets call her nightheart" ARE YOU PROUD OF ME MUM I WROTE SERIOUS the next day, adams journies towards the mole he heard earlier in the grasses, hoping for some food to feed his new daughter. and he is trapped with berry bushes so he cant get to the mole. for fu- hecks sake widowstar I thought you turned into a responsibe adult but no quite annoyed, he goes the other way to get to the mole, before he pounces and kills the mole. meanwhile thornwhisper worries about this whole new challenge of raising a child, watching as nightheart sniffs the air with curiosity, catching the scent of a root. she tries to follow her father, but thornwhisper grabs her, still worried about her. she has no ram horns or big body, after all. nightheart, eager to prove her strength to her mother, leaps to her father side and digs up the root she smelt, feeding both her parents for the day. unfortunately, thornwhisper is too caught up in her daughters safety to recognise she has been infected with a leech, which nightheart notices immediately and pulls of her mother. widowstar and his mate begin to realise that her daughter may be called nightheart, but she has a heart of gold. well done me I actually wrote seriously for most of this post. yaay for seriousness. on another note though I actually love the way this story has gone

"Describe yourself - but not like that!" just isn't fair. So please don't worry, a level of resemblance isn't bad.

Also, I started on a grass mingle once and almost every wanderer had scorpion tail in some form. Abusing the spawn command lets Adam's family have some weird traits at times. Nothing too interesting, in other words.

  45. So now I have an important decision to make: Who will I take to Home Island?? I think I have an idea of who I will take, but your input might help me a lot! So without further ado, here are the options: Oasis. She was born with derp snout but due to her insecurities was given Big Nose by Bostonlobstah. She is the daughter of Poozie and twin sister to Velveteen II. Her red fur and scorpion tail give her a unique appearance among the tribe. Velveteen II. He’s a special boy—thought to be a reincarnation of Velveteen, as son of Bostonlobstah who was tragically killed by a mysterious Darkness. He looks a lot like his much older sister Skippi with his mask and striped fin tail. Skippi. She was born too early by accident—Poozie went to sleep in a permanent nest. But I’m glad she was born when she was or Oasis and Velveteen II would never exist! She’s very eye-catching and lovely looking, one of the first with the raccoon mask. Poozie. She’s been with us for a long time—in this life and her previous one. She has become almost a second-in-command to Bostonlobstah and Adam 2.0. If she doesn’t get to Home Island, Bostonlobstah will give her powers to lead the remaining tribe to wherever they choose to go for an adventure. Tillie. Tillie was born in a rush—everyone was anxious to run to the end of Whale Island and Tillie was all but left behind. Luckily Bostonlobstah was patient and gentle towards her, and their bond has grown close. Tillie has Heat Body, a somewhat unique trait among the tribe. Sweetie. Ah, Sweetie. A personal favorite who’s also been with us for quite a while. I think she will come regardless of whether you hate her or not. Her red ram horns give her away as one of Meringue’s descendants. She is the daughter of Snowchild, who was also one of my faves. Emma Jean. The daughter of Sweetie, who also has those signature Ram Horns and sweetie’s pink stripes. But Emma was born with Water Body, which means it’s her “default” appearance. Rudolf (right). He’s a lucky boy. A bearyena appeared right next to him when he was a little kid. It just so happened to be the day of departure to Crossing, and Rudolf was able to get on the ports and escape with the tribe. He has heat body just like his older sister Tillie. Posy. Posy is the spotted one. His name is a bit funny, and he was born on the same day as Rudolf. Except his father is a very attractive rogue male. That’s all there is to say about him... Rogue and Male. These uncreatively named twins are also sons of that one rogue male that Bostonlobstah made beautiful. They are a quirky pair for sure! Snowflake. She is a looker for sure. She reminds me of Snowchild even though she has no close relation that I’m aware of. That’s everyone! But only three of them will be able to come to Home Island with Bostonlobstah and Adam 2.0. Everyone else will have to get there on their own . I’m going to make a poll for you to vote on who you think should go! I think I will continue this Playthrough on a new thread, to document the lives of Bostonlobstah’s tribe after they reach Home Island. So keep on a lookout for that!
