  1. It's very annoying, when you're doing a challenge, where you can only go to, for example, snowy islands and there's no snow port. So when you want to do a challenge like that, you choose a biome in the sandbox customization menu and now all the ports in that save will lead to that biome. Guess who's been watching Seri's newest Niche series!

  2. Ello children im open for requests on art just like your character in niche nothing else and if you set a request and don't get it for a while don't freak out I have a life too and wont drop everything for a little drawing TwT but anyways if the Title as "Closed" in it don't ask for anything yah got it?, mk... also if you don't like how it comes out you can tell me how to improve the errors but don't freak out or want a redraw I will not do it twice and ONLY ONE nicheling please not multiple.. but like if its really needed I might not do yours so hastily. and don't hesitate to ask for gore I'm fine with that (I'm not weird you are!!) NOTE!!! When finished with the drawing image may not be at top quality due to the fact that I'm taking the photo with a computer and that's kind of hard.. TwTThis is the only example I have.. and by the warning you can see its a bit blurry (heck..)

  5. So I wanted to recreate which creatures would work best for their specific biome, and my inspiration came from wondering what the prehistoric creatures would look like without mixing in the 'modern' genes. I like to give the creatures realistic backstories to their genes, and give them more animalistic personalities, rather than human ones. And here they are, The female is the ideal hunter, though slow due to her mammoth feet, she has a strength of five and a very high heat resistance. If she were in a large pack, they would surround walrusdeer to take them down easily, and with her strength and defense stats, she can hunt the balance bears as well. Between her mighty horns, great fangs, and hammertail, she is the top hunter in the winter biome. Her high heat resistance allows her and her pack to hunt all through the winter, and easily navigate the snow. The male is a herbivore, with a digging trunk and paws to match, simply searches the island for roots to feed off of. Usually making home near a permanent nest, they travel in very small packs, preferring to build up a food supply in the short time before snow falls, and then huddle together to collect nearby roots during winter. They are easy targets for the predators of the biome, and will usually leave one creature behind, usually the eldest, as a distraction when attacked by a balance bear, so the rest of the pack may escape. Saberfanged creatures tend to make their homes near these digging trunk creatures, and lie in wait for a balance bear to attack. The digging trunk creature has a short time to escape during this fight, for if it doesn't, it might become the fanged creatures next meal. Moving on to their opposites, the Savannah. These two creatures are much closer in relation than the two from the Winter biome, but still wouldn't breed together due to their difference in body types. The female is the gatherer. Her species survives off the bushes of the Savannah. Though her movements are a little slowed due to that armored body, it does allow her to collect from the cacti without receiving any damage. Due to her armored body protecting her from harm, she has no defensive genes and is a herbivore. They tend to nest around large collections of cacti and berries, gathering grasses for nesting materials. The male on the other hand, lacks her strong body, and instead has a leaner one more conditioned to survive the heat and allow fast movements. He is equipped with two digging paws to allow him to collect four roots from a single spot. These creatures prefer to settle at permanent rests around known root spots, and send out scouts to find more roots, as well as check the land for the starts of fire, since the land is prone to it. The two species live in harmony the way a chipmunk and a squirrel would, but if food becomes scarce they will attack each other for resources. Next is a very funky pair from the swamp biome, won't make any sense at first but hear me out. Let's start with the male, clearly his genes look very odd for this biome. But the two have a symbiotic relationship (They need each other to survive). The male is equipped with the most damage resistance a creature can get, which is 5. In the swamps, the thorns give a damage of 4 and take up half of the island. Clearly this creature can gather no food, so he is dependent on the female creatures species for resources, in return his species clears the island of its deadly thorns. He has a stinky tail to protect him from flies, and a spitsnout simply because I thought it fit the creature best. Once the island is cleared of thorns, these creatures will simply live beside the Poison creatures, being shields against bearyenas, and sitting next to children in nests to keep away blue birds. The female is a toxic bodied creature, surviving off the plentiful toxic berry bushes on the island. Her people's main issue is getting around the thorns. They entrust the spitsnout creatures entirely, knowing one cannot exist without the other. Her two berry paws allow her to be stationed next to three berry bushes at a time, collecting the maximum amount she can hold in a day. Her stinky tail swats away the nasty bugs that would lull her to sleep. The two species never fight each other, and though they cannot breed, they treat each other as equal species. Next we have another symbiotic relationship, though they are not dependent on each other for food. It's the jungle! The female is by far the top of the food chain on this island. Nothing can harm her except for the Meat Eating Plants. Her species has evolved specifically for this biome and its threats. Coming from a distant line of bearyenas, she has their claws, and evolving from the species of Saberfanged creatures in the Winter biome, she has the mighty horns, fangs, and hammer tail. All in all, she is a killing machine. Her species hunts the Great Apes of the jungle. Surrounding the creatures when they come down from the trees and killing them easily with a pack. The creatures give enough food to feed her pack for days. But there are a few issues with her species, they cannot smell, and the apes hide from their Saberfanged appearance. This is why the males species is needed. He has a lean body, no horns, no powerful fangs or tails. By all definitions this creature is a herbivore. Using its digging paw to pull up the roots of the jungle, and its berry paw to gather the smelly berries off the trees, this creature lives with plenty of food to eat. Their existence is only threatened by the apes, who spot them in the grasses or catch scent of the berries they've eaten. They have a mutual agreement with the Saber creatures, they will use their ability to smell to find the dangerous Meat Eating Plants, and lure out the apes, if in return the Saber creatures will kill the apes and keep them safe. The two species nest in a large pack together by a decent food source of roots and trees, waiting for apes to find their way to their dens. Finally we have the water biome creatures, Sorry for the tiny picture, hard to get a good one from the water These two are entirely separate species, one living in the depths of the water while one lives closer to the surface. The female stays in the shallow end, near trees that drop their coconuts or acorns into the water. They swim along searching for clams to open up as well. Due to their fast speeds, they spread out far along the water, besides a nesting pair or two, and once they've collected all the nuts, seaweed, and clams for the day they spread out once again and wait for more to reappear in the morning. The nesting pairs are the ones selected to breed, they do not travel the waters for food but instead stay in one spot, preferably within reach of a few seaweed plants to rebuild their nests. They very rarely come in contact with the platypus beaked species, unless they are chasing a fish and stray too close to the surface. The male's species lurks in the depths, where there are more fish and worms below the sand. They are excellent fishers with their claw and fishing tails. Their beak allows them to dig up many worms, and they choose to nest in the holes they've dug up, as they cannot collect the seaweed. Unlike the pink creatures, they have no set nesting partners, and will settle down in any area with plentiful foods. They choose to avoid the light of the shallow end, as their eyes are not adapted to it, unless a swarm of fish manage to escape their grasp and make it towards the shallows. When they come in contact with the other species, they do not fight each other because neither poses any threat to the others food source Hope you guys liked this, let me know if there are any other biomes you'd like me to do that I forgot about, or feel free to do your own and show them below, I'd love to see what other people come up with.

  8. So.... I wanted to do something weird, and I hadn't found anything like this in the forums or other google searches that encouraged bad breeding... I'm always caught up trying to make perfect genes, and so playing this was actually really refreshing. I had the change to stream this last Friday during the promotional sale on Steam, and I can't remember laughing so much. I hope you guys enjoy this, and I'd love to see your love-children or any suggestions you guys might have in regards to changing the rules or adding clauses etc to them. ^^ ❤️ Kat Kat Tails presents: The Bad Boy Challenge For Niche: A Genetics Survival Game Made specifically for Kat Tail’s first official Niche Steam Stream, the Bad Boy Challenge is meant to be humorous but still challenging for both n00b and pro players. Focused on working around the (usually)useless traits that Rogue Males bring into the mix. In the past, these Bad Boys have been pests, crimes against the genepool, and precious females needed to be protected from them. But no longer! Rebel against your better instincts and get with bad boy Kyle or dangerous Keith, Fabian the rake, and more unforgettable one-night stands! Your parents will never approve of these summer flings, but it just makes the romance all the sweeter. /endcringe Enjoy the hilarity and see what amazing creatures you could create when whirlwind romances take over your nichelings and genetics alike. Rules: 1. If a rogue male enters your territory at least one female must find him irresistible and breed with him. 2. The more aesthetically pleasing your nicheling is (subject to each person playing), the more likely they are predisposed to seeking out a rogue male and to breed with them. 3. If a rogue male is present, no other males may be bred with. 4. Because of rule 3, males under your control may kill rogues in order to win a chance at breeding, but you are not allowed to move your females before your males if you are trying to do so. 5. Males who land the KILLING BLOW on Rogues can be marked and deemed as an even “Badder-Boy”, able to breed with females even if there is a rogue in the territory. 6. If you have a female that is pregnant with a rogue male’s baby, then you do not have to breed another female with them this turn. That being said, the female must have her baby the following day or as soon as you are able to build a nest. No “holding it in”. 7. Since friendly bearyenas are a rarity they can be mated with even if a rogue is present. 8. If there are no rogue males present, you must seek out a tree stump for your females to call out on or leave the island as quickly as you are able. (Rogues do not usually appear on easy islands or breeding islands) 9. For added difficulty, start your game in a hard island or a killer island. Whale Island is also acceptable as the Rogue males tend to appear more frequently there. . ***As a side note, I’ve scoured the internet for anything similar and haven’t seen any like this, so if you could, I would appreciate credit as well as a link to my YouTube channel. Happy gaming! (this is also available in DOCx format if for some reason you need it????) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCn1pvJK0qHwfz35nWQ736pg? 9. To Wander; The next gen will still have plenty of room to come along to. You can simply delay their appearance a little if your original gen has longer life spans. You can prevent overcrowding in a number of ways as well, one of which is to set who gets fed in a food shortage. This would allow your most desirable creatures to live on and breed and less desirable creatures fade back into the past. Having more time to orchestrate the gene pool could lead to very customized creatures-which is my kind of fun. Your kind of fun could be something entirely different so I think longer life spans should be an "option" and not a "change". As for everyone elses reply, thank you! The upcoming changes to allow for a life span slider is AWESOME news to me. That will allow everyone to play the game at a pace and style more of their own choosing.

  18. I have grown to love the current pattern system again One thing I miss about old niche colors is the variety of grey tones. We had white (grey+grey), light grey (grey+black), dark grey (black+black), blue-grey (black+black, propably a glitch) and a pure black (melanism). Now we have white, grey and black. We could have more variety, if a middle grey fur color was added. Mixing it with white or black would allow having light grey and dark grey coats. For uses... I don't know. Not all fur colors add to camoflauge, but maybe this could allow hiding next to stones? Or maybe not. It's just an idea. I mainly want this for cosmetic reasons. I miss my blue-grey boy Kirnu from my first tribe. That color was pretty common, but Kirnu is the only invidual nicheling I remember with it. IT WAS AROUND THE TIME OF THE JUNGLE UPDATE AND I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO TAKE SRCEENSHOTS BACK THEN, OKAY?!

  19. From what I saw in the promotional material for this game, I noticed one picture showcased nichelings with different pupil types (I've included the picture in this post for reference) . I was thinking that it would be a nice addition if nichelings could mutate different pupil types. It could either be purely aesthetic, like the nicheling's eye color, or the pupils could have some survival advantages. For example, the slit pupil gene could make sight better in darker biomes, like the swamp, Cephalopod eyes would increase sight underwater, etc.

  20. Capybeagers are a combnation of capybaras, beavers and badgers. They spawn in capybeager dams: A more game friendly sprite: Movement: They do three moves every night, just like bearyenas. They swim up and down streams and may cut down trees and berry bushes around the them. Capybeagers are passive towards nichelings unless you attack them. If you do that, they turn agressive and use their turns to attack your nichelings. They are very protective about their babies. Habitat: They can be found in all islands that have streams. They won't go far from their dam. Hunting: If you attack them, they turn agressive. They drop 7 food. Lifespan (& maybe taming): Capybeagers have a lifespan of 10 days. They spawn as babies. They reach aduthood at the age of 4 days. (Maybe you could tame them with 3 food when they're babies and breed with them when they become adults?) Genes (if hybrid breeding were to happen): Round ears No horns Short sight Capybeager snout (inspired by the Beaver teeth to cut down trees) + 2 smelling +1 cracking tree cutting ability Capybeager body +1 swimming +1 strenght +1 cold resistance Capybeager paw +1 swimming +1 strenght Capybeager hinglegs +2 swimming +1 speed +1 strenght Swimming tail Random albinism and melanism genes Black or white fur Orange eyes Black or white horn colour White pattern Mask Pattern shape D Thick pattern density Medium pattern size Normal bloodclotting Normal fertility Random immunity Apetite: Capybeagers eat treebark and sometimes cut down small trees. They also cut berry bushes around their water source. They may sometimes eat grass around their stream. They can also feast upon acorns if an oak happens to be close by. In swamp islands they sometimes eat insects. Abilities: 1 speed 2 swimming 1 cracking 2 strenght Tree cutting (The ability to cut down small trees like aspen) 1 eyesight 3 hearing 2 smelling

  30. I don't expect tremendous overhauls here; (except for the things you're currently focused on, of course, racing is big,) I'm more just curious as to where the team's thinking is on some things. I'm glad that making Sumo require more thought is a big concern. An obstacle in the center may inhibit more than chargers, though; spinners and any other center-seeker will have to be concerned about that. You would have to find a way to ensure that smushing your core against the center obstruction until the constricting circle kills your opponent doesn't become a dominant strategy. I have a feeling that introducing obstacles won't provide so much of a challenge; I think instead people will use it as a tool to make it impossible to dislodge their drone. Perhaps if the obstructions were semi-random and/or in motion, it might be a fairer test, as you wouldn't be able to plan for the arrangements that you knew were coming. It might also help if they were repulsors as well as just obstacles; like trying to force like poles of a magnet together, trying to brace a drone with the obstacles would be a slippery task.

  33. The new leader is... Fie! Tribe size goes down to 10, but thats ok, we only made it to 8 in Tora's Reign. Due to a shortage in unrelated Nichelings Rean is mating with both of his sisters. This could be bad... Rean gets Red Brown Fur from the Whims and Claw from me. We need to be able to swim and fish here. Alisa gets Green Eyes from the Whims and Swimming Tail from me. Fie gets White fur from the Whims and Claw from me. Emma and Elliot have had another child. A sickly Daughter named Sara. Alisa and Fie have had their children with their brother Rean and as I feared they are both Sickly. Alisa's son is named Thomas and Fie's Daughter is named Sharon. We need to find Wanderers STAT! Oh look a wanderer. We have just brought in Valimar and Fie is quite smitten with him. The whims have given him Normal Hind Legs and I have given him High fertility as his is very low. Machias has died of his illness. Sara has decided to become a wanderer. Bonus Points to anyone who knows the obscure game I am naming characters after today.

  37. I like the VTOL thrusters - do they only follow the mouse? If they are actuated like hinges, then we'll definitely need a new control paradigm to control them effectively - which, on the upside, would also likely be applicable to hinges. Would it be possible to link them to a directional sensor, so that they're aways facing to/away from gravity? My vectored thrust assemblies always require a directional sensor on the hinge, which has always made them either unstable, or unresponsive; that much weight on a hinge is hard to manage, especially with the clearance (thus distance from the parent part) the sensor needs, so that the hinge can turn freely. Those afterburners are going to be much-abused in Sumo, I think; it's another step towards buffing up brute-force solutions. I realize you're focused on race mode and drone parts to support that, but I'm curious where thinking currently stands on gentling the punishment for having more logic in a sumo/race drone. Has any thought been given to reducing the penalty for using logic in Sumo, such as reduced part count (logic costs 0.25 parts?) or the 'processor' ideas that let you back three logic parts in a 1x3 processor? (I like those numbers, because it doesn't eliminate the chance that drones will wig out with logic damage, but still reduces part count and the space that logic occupies.) I really would like to see smart builds be rewarded more in sumo, race, and other asynchronous/autonomous game modes.

  40. Plus two new island ideas. Managrove: Size: large. Difficulty: medium. Description: mostly submerged with a few small islands strewn through it. Islands are a mix of jungle and swamp. Several submerged managrove trees in shallow water and jungle trees in deeper water. Dark Depths: Size: huge. Difficulty: hard. Description: Entirely deep ocean biome, only accessible via underwater ports. Also I just realized this but archipelago would be awesome for a player who liked it's tried to live in the ocean.

  41. Thanks! I'm thinking that the edges of the island(or maybe patches in the middle of more watery islands ) that house the deep ocean biome. Spires: Provide 1+ heat when next to. Has 10 shrimp that offer 2 food when collected all over it. Normal water predators can't travel to the deep biome, so a new one has emerged: the anglerpus. Anglerpus: Has the body of an angler, the bulb of an angler, and the tentickles of a vampire squid. 2 attack, 3 swimming, and 1+ attraction. Basically, on the smelling menu, the player will see a single green dot. Newbies will not recognize the trap, thus dooming their nicheling.

My first attempt wasn't great in terms of altitude and attempting the lush biome without the reward from completing all missions was really not worth it. And then Steam magically subtracted multiple hours from all games. Finished 2 playthroughs in "4 minutes". Clearly, I'm a genius.

  49. These mysterious islands can only be found by traveling. You can't start on them, and they can't be reached from whale island. Even whales don't know where they are. Their ports can't be found easily. Kinda like whale island, they appear randomly, exept secret island ports can only be found in certain biomes. "But what kind of islands?" you might ask. Well that's left for the devs. They'd be secret after all. But if this suggestion gets 30 upvotes, (I want to knowif people like this or not) I will post my ideas for secret islands in seperate suggestions. I'm gonna post them even if this doesn't get the votes, but as normal island ideas.

  50. Hello! So I think that niche could use a little bit more idle movement. The eye blinking is already a nice step, but besides that and head moving, there really isn't a lot of interactions or movements, so here are a few things I think would be nice to add. -Maybe a nose lick, scratching and itch or just moving their ears around? -when going to sleep, they can curl into a little ball. - Maybe (If its not too much work!) Add a little brawling, perhaps a rare animation that happens between two males one in a moon? Those are my suggestions! thanks for considering
