  2. Vankirvan is my main nicheling OC, and really the only Nicheling I've gotten really attached to (so far). In the beginning I didn't have the game though; I had created him by studying the genes of the game and drawing him from there, and so, I made a backstory (which has changed quite a lot by now). He has a missing medium tail, since he was attacked by a bearyena as a child. He was rescued and raised by all his older siblings until he was healthy once more, and by then he had developed a hatred for bearyenas. His tribe later found a baby bearyena, which Vankirvan tried to lead away and loose among the grasses. But his only younger sibling, Tarela, caught him and brought the bearyena back. Vankirvan watched as it grew, growing more fearful of it by the day even though his siblings always made sure it stayed away from him. But his fear turned to dread when he realized Tarela had fallen in love with Don (the bearyena) and was expecting his baby. The baby was born, a male named Clawduk, with a monstrous bearyena face. And things only grew worse after Vankirvan and Clawduk were swept away from their island during a storm and washed up in a jungle a few islands away. Now Vankirvan must raise his sister's monster baby and get them both out of the danger-filled jungle alive... I was thinking of making a comic about Vankirvan's full story, what do you think? Anyways, here's the first version of him. His horns, poison fangs, medium ears, hind legs, and lean body have never changed. Mind you this was back when there were only stripes and panda pattern for markings. (2016) This next version of him was created after the new pattern system came out. I didn't know how they worked so I just drew whatever pattern came to mind. This version of him also has a runner leg and a velvet paw, just like his next one. (2017) These next two versions are final, current versions, mostly the first one since he has his runner leg and velvet paw. For some reason I gave the most recent one a nimble fingers and a runner leg. I like his tenrec-like face in the 2017 one, but I think I drew his body better in the 2018 version. (2017) (2018) And I was originally going to try and create him through breeding, but with this new update I can MAKE HIM! So I did, and I finally have him IN MY GAME!

  4. With the new sandbox settings I decided to create an ugly little Rogue female and send her off into the world! The goal? Find a worthy husband and start a family! Well, here she is. Desata. No collecting or strength, just lookin' for love. Desata wandered and wandered. She passed by berry bushes, scared away Stagmoles and Bunnils, feeling defeated as she looked down at her crippled paws. "Maybe I should clear out some grass to attract a mate," she thought. But the only thing she attracted was a Peaceful bear. It began to rain. "Whyyy!!" Desata cried out to the rainy sky. "Gods, wherever you are, hear my plea! I NEED a HUSBAND!" That instant, her plea was answered! The sky cleared, bringing the fresh scent of a husban- Nicheling! She immediately followed the sound of his footsteps. "Hi! Hello! I'm Desata! Will you be my husband? Are you my husband from heaven?" The Nicheling seemed uncomfortable, terrified, even. So much so that he bolted away at the first sight of her! She chased him around a rock, Desata still blurting out her greeting. Eventually, he gave up and agreed to stay with her, at least for a little bit. His name was Nursur. After a few days together, Nursur began to find Desata less annoying and more endearing... in an annoying way. "Well, we're both the same, in a way. We're just wanderers looking for a home. Sure, I'll be your husband. Whatever that means." The Peaceful bear witnessed the birth of Nosankuk. After that he just... schooched off into the wilderness. Never to be seen again. Huh. As her son grew older, Nursur went away to tried to clear some more grass for the growing family. Being a single parent for a mere day, Desata was trying to teach him some valuble life skills. Nosankuk witnessed the horror of her mother whacking a Stagmole on the head with her deformed paws, managing to kill it. "You see, Nosankuk? That's how it's done!" Even though Nosankuk was born 3 days ago... he was pretty sure that wasn't how it's done. Nosankuk decided to dedicate his life to exploring and not brutalizing Stagmoles. Here's a pic of Nursur photobombing Sirale's baby photo. How rude. Nursur ventured further into the grass, and stumbled across a lovely female. Perhaps he was a little influenced by his wife, but he instantly thought she would be the perfect partner for his son. "You've got to come join us! You need to meet my son, he's about your age, yea high, you'd love him!" Kyaas agreed, they seemed friendly enough! Kyaas followed Nursur, where she hid in the tall grass while they had a pep talk. "Son, I found the perfect girl for you! Her fur is a lovely red, and she's got these great big horns!" Nosankuk gulped nervously. How was he to approach such a beautiful lady? Sirale, Nosankuk's sister, was watching this whole event unfold. "Who's that behind brother?" Suddenly, a booming voice came from behind the duo. "I am Hilus, the most beautiful female in all the land! I demand this creature here be my mate!" Nosankuk was confused at first, he turned around slowly, coming face-to-face with the most beautiful creature he had ever seen, (but that's not saying much.) She was very banana-y... in a good way. He immediately fell in love... poor Kyaas was heartbroken. After a few failed attempts, the happy couple were soon-to-be parents. They both have deformed left paws, truly a match made in heaven! Sirale was very confused. "Why is Kyaas crying?" she asked Desata. She didn't know either, she was too busy trying to make friends with Stagmoles. Desata stayed close in hopes of a grandababy, and there she was! Little Asme was born, just as banana-y as her mother. Although, everyone just sort of... left Kyaas to her own devices. She just picked berries, muttering about how she was the only one who did any work around here. Oh well, more food for us! Meanwhile, Sirale found a little lost baby named Lussi. She didn't see very well, but they became fast friends. As his parents aged, Nosankuk found himself in charge of their growing territory, making sure everyone (except maybe Kyass) was safe and accounted for. As he was surveying the territory, he heard a splashing sound coming from the river. He spotted a Nicheling named Kutavan trying in vain to catch some fish. They were slipping right through his nimble fingers. "Get outta here, dude! Those are our fish!" Kutavan turned around with a sly grin. "Oh? You aren't catching them. Is that female yours too? You seem to have left the poor lady alone." He gestured with his nimble finger toward Kyaas, where they could just see her ears poking above the grass. "Umm... no, you can have her." Nosankuk looked away awkwardly. Kyaas had finally found love with the sly wanderer! If you ask me, she looks as happy as can be. Hilus also gave birth to a cookie-looking baby that she named Ellela. A new addition! Eugh.. truly the face only a mother could love. It started raining and that Stagmole spawned all on the day of his birth. Kyaas named him Kuman and fawned over his lovely pink mane. After the passing of Desata, Nursur was heartbroken. He continued to explore with with his daughter Asme and her friend Lussi. They stayed near him when the end came and promised to explore as much as they could in his memory. Bonus screenshots of Nursur sniffing the camera.

  10. Ok, so when we left off last time, Hairless was looking for a mate. He found a stump to call from and... Well this is what we got. Lata has double no paw and big body. But lets see what one child looks like from them, we will need diversified genes eventually. Hairless gets Small Pattern from the Whims and Purple eyes from me. Lata gets Black fur from the Whims and Beareyna Claw from me. Echo desides to take both his best friend Koko and his half sister Ista as mates. Echo gets Orange eyes from the Whims and Tiny pattern from me. Koko gets White horn color from the Whims and Beareyna claw from me. Ista gets Patern density very thin from the Whims and Blue Eyes from me. That thing I said about not liking Platopuses, I take it back. Meet Rose, a beautiful red furred, green eyed spiky body nicheling with 1 beareyna claw and 1 runners leg. I already love her. Marlin has died of old age. We now have Rou a red female with piercing Purple eyes and Sol another Platopus. Neither have the bat hear I was hoping for so we will have to try again. Goodbye pretty Perdi. I will miss you, but thanks to the new update I will be able to revive you whenever I want. Thanks for being the mother of my new Whims.

  11. As simple as it sounds. Here are the rules: Your goal is to get to 100 nichelings as fast as possible. You must keep breeding, even if you don't have enough food to feed everyone. No cheating!! This means A) No console. B) No changing the age sliders. C) You can only start with two nichelings. D) You must start with 20 food and 10 nesting material. (Of course, B - D apply to sandbox mode. Oh, and also, I didn't just say "keep it to normal settings" because you can deck out your starters as much as you'd like and get rid of anything you want in the world settings.) You can continue to try to get as much nichelings as possible after getting 100 if you so choose. That's it. I have yet to try it, so maybe you could say how it went for you if you choose to do this?

  14. So Relame & Vichi adopted a tiny poison fanged baby named Vandon Meanwhile Mira & Vandukhir find a tiny mammut footed baby in the last iceblock on the island, named Luis A few days pass and we have a bit of a famine before Mira fixes it w/ her excellent flying & bunnil hunting abilities, those defender bears be damned. Relame and Vichi have their first child! Her name is Relame, now Relame II because the game has decided that's how this is gonna go. Vandon goes out on a nearby hunting trip, only to be ambused by a bearyena. Relame rushes to his side and claws at the bearyena as best she could, but isn't fast enough to dodge a fatal blow. Vandon quickly finishes off the bearyena, and gathers with Relame II & Vichi to mourn their loss, while Relame II's innocent black eyes stare curiously at her mother's bones. On the other side of the island Luis helps kill a bearyena and finds her cub hiding in the grasses, and invites him in with the sparing amount of food they have left. Many days go by and the bearyena cub grows up, and Mira becomes pregnant with his cub and gives birth to Reis, an odd little child.

  18. Starting off in this new update, it seems that Rovannu will have to fight for the secret hideout, as a bearyena was already living there! He takes a bit of damage, but with the help of Kirku, he is able to take the predator down. \ Meanwhile, this group of three has found a healing plant among the grass! This'll surely be useful if anyone gets severely hurt in the future! The next day, as he begins to create his little hideaway, Rovannu finds someone left over from the tussle with the bearyena. It appears that this young fellow belonged to the now dead mother! Out of pity, Rovannu invites the young child in. Related to the subject of finding weird animals, young princess Lais seems to have found a dodomingo in the grass! She whacks it with her paw out of curiosity, only to have it scream rather loudly and run away. She is started for a moment by this strange creature's cry, but decides to continue moving on. However, it seems that the bird is not all the young princess will find. By the shores, she can pick up on the faint shuffling of this snip-snouted creature. Not a rogue, no, but a young, patternless male by the name of Vantakir. Despite his mostly awful genes, he carries the poison fangs of the royal family, heat body, big ears, and stripes in his recessives. Is it really worth it though? Perhaps it is, as the loner stays put through the next day. Lais has a chat with him by the ocean, before deciding to invite him into the tribe. And at this point, my mom begins blasting her music really loudly. And by loudly I mean loudly because her room is right next to mine. Lais' mother, Rame, disproves of the invitation of the no pattern, snip-snouted male, but decides not to throw too much of a fit. The next day, this group of spots and no-patterns begins to create the hangout space. This first room is a place to eat some berries for themselves in secret, to chat, and for mothers to have their children away from the judgement of the higher ups. The group begins to make a narrow path leading to the shore for anyone to fish at, and will have some small branches leading to separate rooms, maybe. Dukduknu and Tapriro are exploring near a port, and when they find it, they wonder if moving the whole tribe to a new island would work out. They also find a tree stump. The two decide to see if calling out on it will attract any wanderers. On day 23, Lenraana decides to mate with the friendly bearyena. She mutates in saber tooth fangs and a claw. (All mutations are unlocked on this file. However, pattern mutations are not allowed to be used.) Rovannu is a bit confused as to why Lenraana would want to mate with a bearyena, but decides to accept her decision anyways. In the meantime, Mita and Kirku have made a path to the shore, and are going to continue expanding the hideout. The next day, it starts raining, and the entire tribe desperately fights against the rabbits to protect their food stores. While yelling on top of the tree stump, Dukduknu attracts the attention of his tribe, and a wanderer, who has the mask, big body, and poison fangs of the tribe's royal family! The young prince eagerly steps off his throne to invite her, but she is a bit reluctant, and moves away from him. This female, called Tarako, may be shortsighted, but she has recessive toxic body in her genes. Speaking of recessives however, she does have recessive hemophilia and webbed hind legs. However, she also has recessive albinism to spice things up a little. The next day, the lone masked female is invited, and Lenraana gives birth to her hybrid baby. She is a little bit freaked out by his appearance initially, but quickly accepts him. His two different claws make him unable to collect, and he only has three speed, but he has eight strength, which is perfect for defending the tribe. He would have nine if his horns decided to show up. Another friendly bearyena is found in the grasses nearby, but a mother is there to protect it. Lenraana, fearful for her newborn baby, calls upon her surrounding tribemates to keep the bearyena away from her child. Suddenly, king Tanopri calls upon the entire tribe. "I am announcing the following news: this island has served us for a quite a while, but it's time for everyone to move on. If we never move, we will never gain the experience we need to survive against all odds. I command this tribe to move to the northern ports, and to traverse to the island beyond it. The animals I want to go on this journey are Lanraana's newborn son, Kudukro, my relatives Lais and Dukduknu, and the newly invited Tarako. Anyone else can be invited, but I command those selected four to go. That will be all." Everyone is a bit shocked to hear that they are being evicted from their home, yet they quickly adjust, as it is the king's orders. Everyone begins to talk to each other. "I want you to come, uncle Tapriro!" Dukduknu immediatley shouts. "You're close to the port, so you have no excuse not to come!" Tapriro is a bit surprised to hear this (especially the being called uncle part), but gleefully obliges, not bringing up his old age of 32 days. (My animals live 55 days on this file before dying.) "I'm not letting my baby go up there without even getting to know his mother first," Lenraana comments. "Well, good for you, wanting to protect that... thing," Rovannu responds. He still isn't fully supportive of the hybrid child. "I'll be coming to if I don't die to this bearyena first." Neither one of the spotted creatures show any sign of wanting to come. Danvan chuckles to himself. "I'm too old to go, and besides, who wants a spit-snout anyways?" "And we're too big and heavy to go," Rame comments to Tapriro. "Everyone will die of old age before we get there." "Well, I'm bringing Lenny and Vanny!" Lais shouts. "But why would you want to bring that thing when it doesn't even have any strength to hunt with?" her mother objects. "And besides, Lenlenla is rather old. 32 days, to be exact." "I don't care!" Lais shouts. "Just because he doesn't have any strength doesn't mean he's useless! He could become the best berry picker in the world! And Lenny isn't that old! She can make it!" the young child objects. Her parents sigh, but decide not to interfere. They're not going anyways, so they have no reign over the kingdom anymore. With the talking out of the way, the creatures that are going will be: Tapriro, Dukduknu, Tarako, Lenraana, Kudukro, Rovannu, Lenlenla, Lais, and Vantakir. The only concern of this group is that neither of the spotted creatures will be going. Who will take their role on the new island? Find out (possibly) in the next update, which I am working on immediately after this one.

  23. So.... I wanted to do something weird, and I hadn't found anything like this in the forums or other google searches that encouraged bad breeding... I'm always caught up trying to make perfect genes, and so playing this was actually really refreshing. I had the change to stream this last Friday during the promotional sale on Steam, and I can't remember laughing so much. I hope you guys enjoy this, and I'd love to see your love-children or any suggestions you guys might have in regards to changing the rules or adding clauses etc to them. ^^ ❀️ Kat Kat Tails presents: The Bad Boy Challenge For Niche: A Genetics Survival Game Made specifically for Kat Tail’s first official Niche Steam Stream, the Bad Boy Challenge is meant to be humorous but still challenging for both n00b and pro players. Focused on working around the (usually)useless traits that Rogue Males bring into the mix. In the past, these Bad Boys have been pests, crimes against the genepool, and precious females needed to be protected from them. But no longer! Rebel against your better instincts and get with bad boy Kyle or dangerous Keith, Fabian the rake, and more unforgettable one-night stands! Your parents will never approve of these summer flings, but it just makes the romance all the sweeter. /endcringe Enjoy the hilarity and see what amazing creatures you could create when whirlwind romances take over your nichelings and genetics alike. Rules: 1. If a rogue male enters your territory at least one female must find him irresistible and breed with him. 2. The more aesthetically pleasing your nicheling is (subject to each person playing), the more likely they are predisposed to seeking out a rogue male and to breed with them. 3. If a rogue male is present, no other males may be bred with. 4. Because of rule 3, males under your control may kill rogues in order to win a chance at breeding, but you are not allowed to move your females before your males if you are trying to do so. 5. Males who land the KILLING BLOW on Rogues can be marked and deemed as an even β€œBadder-Boy”, able to breed with females even if there is a rogue in the territory. 6. If you have a female that is pregnant with a rogue male’s baby, then you do not have to breed another female with them this turn. That being said, the female must have her baby the following day or as soon as you are able to build a nest. No β€œholding it in”. 7. Since friendly bearyenas are a rarity they can be mated with even if a rogue is present. 8. If there are no rogue males present, you must seek out a tree stump for your females to call out on or leave the island as quickly as you are able. (Rogues do not usually appear on easy islands or breeding islands) 9. For added difficulty, start your game in a hard island or a killer island. Whale Island is also acceptable as the Rogue males tend to appear more frequently there. . ***As a side note, I’ve scoured the internet for anything similar and haven’t seen any like this, so if you could, I would appreciate credit as well as a link to my YouTube channel. Luckily not much had happened. Stagapus passes away. Princess Meredith is devastated. A Rogue Male appears, but by the time he dissapears again, Queen Skye has been impregnated, and Ginny too because she tried to defend her Queen. Queen Skye dies peacefully as she and Ginny give birth to their Rogue sons. If only Skye had lived to see her one and only son, his fur as white as snow. Princess Kami is crowned Queen Kami. Ginny watches over all three children. Deathbringer also watches, and realizes that he's IN LOVE *DRAMA* with her. Queen Kami befriends a Crabbit. She names him Arthur. Arthur shall live peacefully for the rest of his days in this Kingdom. Furthermore, all his friends will, too.

  41. It probably switched because the gene that was supposed to be recessive is dominant over the trait that was supposed to be dominant, so when it generated the animal it fixed the dominance to the way it should be (the way it is normally). Thus, this is not a bug, unless the gene that switched to dominant isn't supposed to be dominant. What genes were they?

(That and it's practically the only thing I'm capable of writing fanfic for because it's so sandboxy.) Here's some more: the explorers, some of the bit characters who tagged along. Left to right: Kirro, Iskome, Tanu, and Meana. And a young Kois with her mother, Ala: No requests sorry, they are too much time, but I may do trades.

  46. This all sounds so cool! I hope to see at least one of your ideas get in Niche! You get an upvote, for all of them!
