I feel like it would be a new snout gene available, tusks. Now yes what about a pig snout or something along those lines. Though it would be priceless to see on a baby nicheling, big nose already fills in the role for smelling. It would be obtained by attacking 50 times and digging 30-50 times. The effects would be +1 strength, +2 smelling and +1 digging making this gene pretty worth it. And maybe a pretty good pattern too that could be shown during the juvenile stages two provide additional camouflage (not really sure for which environment). This could increase the chances of avoiding bluebirds for new borns and the other predators, this is linking to how baby wild boars (who are extremely adorable by the way) have a different pattern than adults to hide in the leaf litter. Hope this was interesting, Sincerely Biogamer3 points

so you're making your own nicheling, and you click the "show possible nicheling" button till you find something you absolutely LOVE, so you have to make it exactly the same in the genetics as the possible nicheling shown. It would be much easier if we had a button under or below the "show possible nicheling" button that said something like "copy possible nicheling's genetics" so those genes would be pasted into the gene editor area.2 points

I'm new here. But not at all new to niche, I've been playing since the early access version. I wanted to join so I can talk about niche, draw niche, or add ideas. I really think all things related to Genetics are super rad and that's pretty much what introduced me to this game ( Seri Pixel Biologist did too )! I pretty much check onto here everyday so you can feel free to chat with me. So, yeah! That's it. Okay.. Bye now.2 points

Pretext: Right now we have 2 damaging hazard types in racing (and catch) Walls. You can think of this as damage proportional to your perpendicular velocity component. Or "damage by speed". Shock areas. As far as I can tell this is "damage over time". There is a problem with the "damage over time" approach though. There is a counterplay to damage over time areas by going over them extremely fast, rather than trying to avoid them at all. In "Catch" it seems like there is more incentive for redundancy and raw speed than careful navigation. There is nothing wrong with a challenge in redundancy and speed, but there isn't a challenge truly dedicated to careful navigation in that regard yet. In the racing maps, leaderboard-grade speeds fly over shock-areas so fast that they are totally inconsequential, making the Phoenix and Tournament maps practically as featured as Hydrus but with with less difficult turns. Example of shock areas made totally inconsequential by speed: https://youtu.be/MCeprgLvRqg?t=284 Feature Suggestion: New race/catch hazard area: Spikes/blade area. This type of area does "damage over distance", in contrast with "damage over time". The more distance you go through it, the more damage you take, up to very high damage. If you come to a standstill inside it, there is no damage over time. (But it will still take damage to navigate out once you get moving again.) The damage is low enough that escaping laterally (in races) should be feasible, but the damage should be high enough that pressing forward recklessly will be very punishing. With only "damage over time" hazards, solving the map can be reduced to solving only one variable: speed. With "damage over distance" hazards, the challenge again becomes to solve two variables, speed and hazard perception/reaction. New race/catch hazard area: Barrier. This is "damage by speed", just like walls, except...... cutting into the roadway itself, making an impassable lane. It could be done in any way, but I imagine this like any other hazard: Center lane, Left Lane, Right Lane This is again to prevent race maps from being reduced to solving raw speed alone. Think about what makes the Hydrus Highway more difficult to solve than the Sagittarius Drag Strip. It's the very tight turns that are very very difficult to control at high speeds. Roadblocks may have the same damage mechanism as raw walls, but the drone design challenge to avoid roadblocks is very different from the challenge to avoid walls. This again makes the maps a challenge in solving hazard perception/reaction, not just speed and simple waypoint following. This already exists in the Catch tournament! Which is good! You can see that drones get caught on it very often, and even smash one another into it. This enriches the arena very much. Maybe there could be even more catch maps, including one with more barriers? (Do not modify any existing maps, for obvious reasons. The above new area types would be good for new maps though. Particularly I would personally imagine these as higher difficulty hazards than what exists right now. Belonging to future, higher difficulty maps.)2 points

@Pokestardragacraft I didn't even realise that until you pointed it out, I completely agree. It makes no sense to just trade 1 piece of food for 1 day's worth of fat stores when both do exactly the same thing I think they should maybe gain 1 day's worth of fat stores for every set amount of days they get enough food. So for example every 5 consecutive days the tribe is fully fed every nicheling with the camel body could get 1 days worth of reserves2 points

Ladybug it is! Thanks @Skysplash8! Peach has died of old age. Shadow has had his first child with Hahaha, a son named Crimson has been born. He has his mother's nimble fingers so maybe we wont starve... Kuno has died of old age. OMGosh, I love her! Meet Polly, The first child of Willow and Bramble. She has Cracker Jaw! and a Beareyna claw, and Water Body. I love how she looks, need more babies soon. Sol has died of old age. Willow has decided to mate with Courage. I misclicked while trying to move him to hunt a bunnel.. They had this very brightly colored daughter with Claw and Digging paw, and Also Cracker Jaw. I LOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVEEE Cracker Jaw. Her name is Rere. Lako and her daughter Reis have left the tribe to become wanderers. Our leader Rose has died, leaving behind another gorgeous daughter. This is Pansy. Now, who should lead next? Pansy or Polly?2 points

An armored head suggestion can be found here: Also there have been a bunch of volcanic island suggestions here: Also also, I think that finding wanderers with the genes is a good idea to obtain them but I think that there should be other requirements to unlock them in the mutation menu that may be specific to island. Maybe for the dome head it could be to be hit by coconuts 25 times on the island for example.2 points

I know I've read something about this in a suggestion before, but I think it must've been a post about something else because I can't find it If anyone else knows where it is you could add a link in the comments for me? Anyhoo, from what I remember this post suggested that nichelings with horns/antlers would have an option over them (like with the purr snout) to charge. They would then go in one direction continually until they bumped into something. If that something happened to be another animal it would be dealt damage. While I love the idea of being able to charge into other amimals and deal damage, I can't see this method working. I think it would work better if it was more like the swooping interaction that winged nichelings can use to attack rabbils and crabbits With my method, all genes under the horn slot (other than antennae of course) would give nichelings a charge stat. It wouldn't be something that has levels but instead would be something nichelings either have or don't have like the stats for being venomous or having a distasteful scent. Nichelings with this stat would have an option over larger animals (bearyenas, walrus deer, ramfoxes, balance bears and the two bears that will be added in the upcoming update) or other nichelings within their travelling range that would allow them to charge at it. They would then move from their current space to the nearest space beside whatever they're attacking, and would deal however much damage their strength dictates. They could also stun whatever they're attacking, which would work the same as coconuts falling on a nichelings head1 point

Welcome a brand new clan - The Kingdom of Bakery! The Kingdom of Bakery is a clan ruled by a royal family of the strongest nichelings in the clan. The rest of the clan is divided into four factions: Farmers - Gatherers of fruit, nuts, and roots. They have pink gems. Hunters - Gatherers of meat and fish. They have orange gems. Healers - Healers of the clan and caretakers of young babies. They have blue gems. Warriors - Guards and fighters. They have red gems. When a pup becomes a teenager, they are shown a sacred crystal. The symbols they see on the surface decide what faction they belong to. If they see more than one symbol, they may choose between the two factions. I use this generator to decide. Settings are: Baby = 1, newborn Child = 7, time spent with the healers learning the traditions of the kingdom Teen = 14, where they shadow grown members of the factions to learn their role Adult = 100, plenty of time for stories Pregnancy = 7 Enemy damage = 10 Hunger damage = 5 Environmental damage = 5 Healing = 5 Our kingdom begins with nine nichelings, two of each faction plus one (and the royal family, of course). We start on an empty Home Island*, the perfect place for a burgeoning kingdom. From left to right, background to foreground: Hunter Kleicha, Healer Ma'amoul, Farmer Sugar, Queen Mooncake, Farmer Jammie, King Gingerbread, Hunter Panellets, Warrior Jaffa, and Healer Macaron. *The reason I picked home island is because I made it there once, but my nicheling died before she could recruit any of Adam's clan. It's also very large. King Gingerbread - Firm, even-tempered King Gingerbread is a little rough about the edges. He really loves Queen Mooncake and pretty much worships the ground she walks on. He's very intelligent but not the best at social interaction. Queen Mooncake - Endlessly kind and understanding, queen Mooncake has a birthright to Home Island, carrying the associated immunity gene. She really loves King Gingerbread and can't wait to get their clan and their own family started. Farmer Jammie - Sweet, dutiful, and jovial Jammie can make just about anyone smile and laugh. He has a way with plants and people agree that it was no surprise he was put in the farmer faction. He's very close to his fellow farmer, Sugar. Farmer Sugar - Quiet, unassuming, and meek is usually how others describe Sugar. She is a quiet presence and usually avoids conflict whenever possible, even at detriment to herself. She really only hangs out with Jammie. Hunter Kleicha - This subtle huntress is known for being nearly silent normally. Supposedly, she has no tongue after it was torn out as a kit, but Panellets swears that she talks sometimes. Nonetheless, she's a great listener and a peerless hunter. Hunter Panellets - Panellets is an active, relatively casual hunter. He takes pride in his work but is usually the first to slack off if there's nothing to do. He makes friends very easily though and is generally likable. Healer Ma'amoul - Ma'amoul is a very stuck-up nicheling. He often seems to confuse the importance of his rank with the importance of himself quite a bit, and so he comes off as very prideful and arrogant. Even so, he is a talented healer that is best tolerated when he doesn't talk. Healer Macaron - Macaron is seen as the PR nicheling for the healer faction, since Ma'amoul tends to stick his paw in his mouth or make someone very angry every time he speaks. She is measured, restrained, and almost eerily serene sometimes. Sometimes almost... detached. The kingdom begins...1 point

Ok, Pansy it is. Tribe size goes up to 20. Baby Boom! First we have Anaha's baby with the Beareyna. Melenisi is jet black with big ears, Platopus beak and a beareyna claw. Then we have Hahaha and Shadow,s next child Poppop he has big ears, spots and double digging paw, unfortunately he is sickly. Finally we have Nico, a beautiful crackerjaw with one beareyna claw from Bramble and Willow. Bramble and Willow mate one last time before Bramble dies of old age. Anaha had another child with the Beareyna. This time with Purr Snout. She is named Talenisi. There are too many wanderers and rouges stealing food here. Leader Pansy orders everyone to head for the port. Willow have birth to her last child, a Cracker Jaw son with one Velvet Paw and Ram Horns. Ladybug and Crimson have decided to mate. Ladybug gets Nimble Fingers from the Whims and Cracker Jaw from me. Crimson gets Black Eyes from the Whims and Cracker Jaw from me. This baby looks like a carbon copy of her older sister. Names please?1 point

Jewlelcraft dies from the famine, but Rosewood ensures everyone else eats the best she can. She is a fantastic huntress- so good that Garden wishes she would have made her join Wrath. Like a miracle, the bearyena that they tamed from before returns. Lifeblood mates with it. To add onto that, a young male is seen in tribe territory, only a teen. His name is Redpine. He takes his place at the stones, and everyone rejoices when two needed spots light up- Wrath and Lust. "Which do you choose?" Asks Garden. "Lust," says the male. Soon after, he finds an orphaned kit. "What's your name?" he asks gently. "Newspring," he responds. "Well Newspring, would you like to join me?" "Sure!" "You've got talent," says Rosewood to Redpine. Newspring comes of age shortly after. At his ceremony, one stone lights up- Wrath! Garden is pleased to see someone take the Wrath position, which she secretly misses herself. Newspring is not too physically strong, but his poison fangs are surely an asset in battle, giving him an advantage. His skills are tested when shortly after, a bearyena tries to get after the tribe. It leaves a scar across his shoulder and runs off. Either way, Garden dies of old age, and Newspring must take his place as leader as a teen. The tribe is also joined by Grizzly. At her ceremony, four stones light up- Lust, Wrath, Envy, and Greed. "You will join Wrath," says Newspring. The bearyena from before returns, and Grizzly shows off her skill by killing the beast alone. Newspring realizes that they are alone- just four teens trying to carry on tradition. Can he handle it?1 point

Blade and Vapor grow into full adults. Around this time, Jewelcraft turns into a teenager and is taken to the Stones Of Temptation. One stone lights up- that of Lust. Elephant is delighted that his daughter is able to remain with him among his faction! Garden then announces she is pregnant again- this time with Equinox. The clan is also joined by a teenaged female named Lifeblood. When she is taken to the Stones, three light up- Greed, Gluttony, and Sloth. She is put into Greed. Yet another bearyena comes after the tribe. It kills Paradise and Vapor and cripples one of Garden's paws, but they manage to take it down. Garden has another daughter, who she names Mirror. Rain dies of old age. Panicked, the tribe looks for a replacement. They decide that Garden is a capable leader, and she is made the new Pride member. A bearyena attacks and kills Equinox. On the brightside, when they kill it they tame its offspring. Mirror comes of age and at the Stones of Temptation, the stones of Envy and Pride light up. "You are assigned to Envy," orders Garden A famine hits, and members die, leaving Garden, Jewelcraft, Mirror and Lifeblood. But in the tall grass, Jewelcraft finds hope- a she-kit, alone, is found while she is minding her own business one day. "What is your name?" she asks the kit. "I'm Rosewood," she says quietly. When she matures, the Stones Of Temptation light up four times- for Wrath, Pride, Greed, and Gluttony. "You have two choices, then," says Garden. "Wrath or Gluttony?" "Gluttony," she says, though she was hoping to be allowed into Pride. CURRENT MEMBERS: PRIDE : Garden ----- GREED : Paradise GLUTTONY : Rosewood LUST : Jewelcraft ENVY : Mirror -----1 point

So I was checking out the early acces roadmap, and I stumbled upon something pretty interesting: bossfights. I really like this idea, as it would add some great challenge to the game and surely make things more interesting. So I thought I’d come up with some suggestions for potential bosses in the future. Hope you enjoy! 1. The motherhive: A massive hive has formed in the planet’s core! This boss may seem very familliar to people who have played the old demo, as it used to be a mission, but got removed once the alpha came out. It was a cool concept so I thought it would make for an interesting boss. When you land on the planet, you are immediately greeted with swarms and swarms of bugs. And I’m talking hundreds of normal, large and explody bugs (hopefully the game engine takes it well) and their respective normal hives scattered all over the planet. These will be a huge nuisance to deal with, but I’m sure people will be able to think of a drone broken enough to handle it. Your goal is to tunnel down into the very core of the planet and destroy the motherhive. Of course, there will be elite sentinel bugs that will shoot and bite your drone in order to stop you. Once you destroy the hive, you are rewarded with plenty of yellow resource and maybe something else too (I’m sure the devs can think of something here). Tip: The hive is weak to plasma weapons. 2. The war machine: The corp has created a massive elite war machine, capable of mass destruction, but a malfunction in the programming has caused it to go rogue! You must stop it! I don’t really know what it would look like in game, but I imagine it as some type of huge tank/walker type of thing (simmilar aesthetic style to the transmitter and lab) with lots of guns and cannons. It would shoot homing missiles, small swarms of ships, mortar shots, and a massive long range laser that could absolutely devastate your drone if you’re not careful. It would also sometimes lay aerial mines that would detonate upon contact with your drone. Once destroyed, the corp will reward you with lots of red resource and something else too. Tip: It’s weak to kinetic weapons. 3. The hammerhead mariarch: This one is pretty self explanatory. It’s just a really thicc hammerhead with a bit more visual flare. It’s huge, and its main attacks include charging at you and trying to squish you against the ground. It will also do a huge ground pound type attack where it will make lava fountains emerge from the ground, making the battlefield more intense. It will also shoot fireballs and summon mini hammerheads for you to deal with. Also, every hit it lands will heat you up, so make sure you pack some coolers. Once defeated, it gives you tons of blue resource and a unique something. Tip: Although it can’t be frozen, cryo weapons deal more damage to it 4. The mega fungus: Remember those purple brain looking things that grow land? Yeah, well a growth mutation in one of them has caused it to grow to collosal proportions and start overgrowing the entire planet. It would be a pretty grotesque blob looking thing with tendrils and bumps all over it. Pretty gross to be honest. It would try to hit you with tendrils and throw rocks at you. It would spit out toxic spore clouds and acit that would damage you on contact. It would also throw tiny versions of itself that would grow big spikes out of the ground, which could impale your drone and easily get you killed. At low health it would start to grow a protective layer of land around itself, which you would have to destroy in order to finish it off. Also around the planet you could find agressive fungus monsters which would jump at you and then explode into land which could really mess up your drone. Once beaten, the reward would be lots of green resource (when it’s added, of course) and something else as well. Tip: it’s weak to bio weapons, and if you manage to hit the spore clouds with a plasma gun, it will catch fire and damage the boss Well, those were some of my ideas, hopefully the devs find them helpful, and have a nice day1 point

All in all great suggestions We are in the process of planning the next steps at the moment and are happy to see what the players would like to see in the game. I personally think that we'd probably first get the progression system going and do some not boss related content before implementing such jewels like your ideas into the game. Nevertheless, it's good that you made them as we will have a look at it whenever it's time to make it happen.1 point

Again, each gene should be given its own post. I would definitely give the head +1 strength seeing as wolverines are predatory and use their relatively powerful jaws for hunting. The legs are pretty cool but because they are so short I can't see them working for nichelings. For starters, imagine how silly a nicheling would look if it had just 1 wolverine leg and the other was a normal length leg. They would also need new models for the bodies so that the bodies would work with the different sized legs. The horizontal stripes would be great, although I don't see why they would add extra camouflage1 point

I love forest ideas. I wouldn't want to detract from anyones, so wont post mine separately, but here and see what the OP thinks. I rather think the more forests the better! The more biomes and islands the better even... with infinate possibilites although not sure there'd ever be as many as 100 island options to choose from but if there were... x: Small Woodlands (Easy Island) is a island larger than Tiny Island, but still smaller than most islands. It has oak trees only. Due to its small size it does not have any lakes, rivers, or ponds. It does not have many if any berry bushes as there are so many oak trees to gather nuts from. There are rabbils that spawn whether or not there are any berry bushes around, but there is clover they can eat from on the forest floor. (And maybe some other new prey animal - https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/4768-new-prey-squig/ ) Forest of Peace (Medium Island) - This is perhaps the size of the Peaceful Meadow, but it has many more trees. It has a few oak trees, but it also has other trees (if new ones are implemented). It has a variety of maple trees each one a different color - red maple leaf, yellow maple leaf, orange maple leaf, green maple leaf. Those with bird beaks can pick up the seeds which fall from the maples. There are also flowers (https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/2159-flower-tiles%E2%80%8B%F0%9F%8C%BA/ ) on the grassland tiles on the forest floor. A river or lake can spawn here due to its size. Nothing toxic can be found here. But mushrooms ( https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/2822-mushrooms-🍄/ ) may be found here. Forest of Tears (Hard Island) - Here the forest of tears can spawn a small swamp area or two. The predator spawn rates are higher. The forest here is filled more with weeping willows than any other tree. Due to the swampy area prey like the Nuybara ( https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/4756-new-swamp-prey-nuybara/ ) could spawn if introduced. And as rivers, lakes, ponds can spawn here a dangerous water based prey can maybe be found if introduced known as the Squieel ( https://strayfawnstudio.com/community/index.php?/topic/4741-food-source-squieel/ ). If any berry bushes spawn here they're more likely to be poison berries and if mushrooms are introduced they'd be mostly toxic here. Forest of Fears (Killer Island) - Manchineel trees. Every part of the plant is poisonous. Possibly a new predator spawns from them that are as difficult as the Killer Bearyena or the Jungle Apes. Possibly also immune to poison since they probably eat the fruit from their Manchineel trees. This island also has lightning. Lightning can strike a nichling and take several days off their life span as well as stun them so they have zero to one movement for a few days afterward. If lightning hits a tree the tree is charred, or only a sapling and for 20 days and no one is able to gather from it as it slowly regrows. Anyone around a Manchineel tree within one or two tiles of it when its struck by lightning and starts smoking will have temporary blindness for 3 to 6 days and/or be poisoned by the toxic fumes, and/or be temporarily blind for 3 to 6 days.1 point

The father Bearyena was repelled, but the mother was having none of this. She knows that the Peaceful Bear is just a big sissy. There's the daddy. He's still being a wuss. Meanwhile, more children are born. The tribe is growing fast, and with the food so low, the tribe may starve at any moment. The mother Bearyena is finally dead. We tame the child. Meanwhile, an ice block is spotted not far away. But first, Daddy Bearyena wants custody of his now teenage son. And a poor wanderer is caught in the middle of it all. Daddy is promptly killed, but before our tribe can eat the delicious meat, that wanderer promptly steals our food! "HEY!" Riperella yells. "We needed that! Our tribe's about to starve to death!" We invite her in anyway. The next day, Mr. Rippenpeace and Riperella pass away. Riperella's bones bless the nest where sleeps her last baby. A little seer for the tribe. Finally, some scouts reach ice block and find...a toxic bodied, transgender female nicheling named Lianare. I accidentally poison a child. :,( She looks like her poison-fanged mother, okay!? Another Bearyena comes. He is here to avenge the deaths of his friends!1 point

I think it would be cool to add a new game mode that makes things a bit more challenging. In this game mode the game starts with a tribe of animals (maybe around 5 or so). Things are peaceful for a short time and then the earth starts shaking. The island you are living on is slowly falling apart. Your tribe needs to reach the next island exit as fast as possible! And this is how it keeps being from now on. Every island you enter will fall apart after some time, so run for your lives! You only have a short amout of time to gather up resources before heading to a harder island. This adds an interesting time restriction to the game which makes every single decision more important. Maybe this could even be a story thing, like Adam's story. With a small intro and an end goal: Reach Paradise Island. An island full of food and where earth quakes can't reach you.1 point

I like the idea. But I think these stats would be more appropriate: +2 Smelling, +1 Strength, +1 Digging Gathering and Defense seem a little out of place for this head type. And this allows it to have a decently good smelling without it being overpowered.1 point

Basically what the title says. I've always wanted to toggle things like the apes on and off, or remove carnivorous plants entirely. Do you want some more bunnils to spawn in your save file, but remove bluebirds so they can't steal the meat you get from them? Want packs of hostile Ramfoxes to roam the mountains, so your tribe has to compete with them for everything from food to space, but get rid of Balance Bears because they are a nuisance? This setting makes it possible.1 point
