  1. I feel like it would be a new snout gene available, tusks. Now yes what about a pig snout or something along those lines. Though it would be priceless to see on a baby nicheling, big nose already fills in the role for smelling. It would be obtained by attacking 50 times and digging 30-50 times. The effects would be +1 strength, +2 smelling and +1 digging making this gene pretty worth it. And maybe a pretty good pattern too that could be shown during the juvenile stages two provide additional camouflage (not really sure for which environment). This could increase the chances of avoiding bluebirds for new borns and the other predators, this is linking to how baby wild boars (who are extremely adorable by the way) have a different pattern than adults to hide in the leaf litter. Hope this was interesting, Sincerely Biogamer

  4. so you're making your own nicheling, and you click the "show possible nicheling" button till you find something you absolutely LOVE, so you have to make it exactly the same in the genetics as the possible nicheling shown. It would be much easier if we had a button under or below the "show possible nicheling" button that said something like "copy possible nicheling's genetics" so those genes would be pasted into the gene editor area.

  5. I'm new here. But not at all new to niche, I've been playing since the early access version. I wanted to join so I can talk about niche, draw niche, or add ideas. I really think all things related to Genetics are super rad and that's pretty much what introduced me to this game ( Seri Pixel Biologist did too )! I pretty much check onto here everyday so you can feel free to chat with me. So, yeah! That's it. Okay.. Bye now.

  7. Pretext: Right now we have 2 damaging hazard types in racing (and catch) Walls. You can think of this as damage proportional to your perpendicular velocity component. Or "damage by speed". Shock areas. As far as I can tell this is "damage over time". There is a problem with the "damage over time" approach though. There is a counterplay to damage over time areas by going over them extremely fast, rather than trying to avoid them at all. In "Catch" it seems like there is more incentive for redundancy and raw speed than careful navigation. There is nothing wrong with a challenge in redundancy and speed, but there isn't a challenge truly dedicated to careful navigation in that regard yet. In the racing maps, leaderboard-grade speeds fly over shock-areas so fast that they are totally inconsequential, making the Phoenix and Tournament maps practically as featured as Hydrus but with with less difficult turns. Example of shock areas made totally inconsequential by speed: https://youtu.be/MCeprgLvRqg?t=284 Feature Suggestion: New race/catch hazard area: Spikes/blade area. This type of area does "damage over distance", in contrast with "damage over time". The more distance you go through it, the more damage you take, up to very high damage. If you come to a standstill inside it, there is no damage over time. (But it will still take damage to navigate out once you get moving again.) The damage is low enough that escaping laterally (in races) should be feasible, but the damage should be high enough that pressing forward recklessly will be very punishing. With only "damage over time" hazards, solving the map can be reduced to solving only one variable: speed. With "damage over distance" hazards, the challenge again becomes to solve two variables, speed and hazard perception/reaction. New race/catch hazard area: Barrier. This is "damage by speed", just like walls, except...... cutting into the roadway itself, making an impassable lane. It could be done in any way, but I imagine this like any other hazard: Center lane, Left Lane, Right Lane This is again to prevent race maps from being reduced to solving raw speed alone. Think about what makes the Hydrus Highway more difficult to solve than the Sagittarius Drag Strip. It's the very tight turns that are very very difficult to control at high speeds. Roadblocks may have the same damage mechanism as raw walls, but the drone design challenge to avoid roadblocks is very different from the challenge to avoid walls. This again makes the maps a challenge in solving hazard perception/reaction, not just speed and simple waypoint following. This already exists in the Catch tournament! Which is good! You can see that drones get caught on it very often, and even smash one another into it. This enriches the arena very much. Maybe there could be even more catch maps, including one with more barriers? (Do not modify any existing maps, for obvious reasons. The above new area types would be good for new maps though. Particularly I would personally imagine these as higher difficulty hazards than what exists right now. Belonging to future, higher difficulty maps.)

  10. @Pokestardragacraft I didn't even realise that until you pointed it out, I completely agree. It makes no sense to just trade 1 piece of food for 1 day's worth of fat stores when both do exactly the same thing I think they should maybe gain 1 day's worth of fat stores for every set amount of days they get enough food. So for example every 5 consecutive days the tribe is fully fed every nicheling with the camel body could get 1 days worth of reserves

He has his mother's nimble fingers so maybe we wont starve... Kuno has died of old age. OMGosh, I love her! Meet Polly, The first child of Willow and Bramble. She has Cracker Jaw! and a Beareyna claw, and Water Body. I love how she looks, need more babies soon. Sol has died of old age. Willow has decided to mate with Courage. I misclicked while trying to move him to hunt a bunnel.. They had this very brightly colored daughter with Claw and Digging paw, and Also Cracker Jaw. I LOOOOOOOOVVVVVVVEEE Cracker Jaw. Her name is Rere. Lako and her daughter Reis have left the tribe to become wanderers. Our leader Rose has died, leaving behind another gorgeous daughter. This is Pansy. Now, who should lead next? Pansy or Polly?

  12. An armored head suggestion can be found here: Also there have been a bunch of volcanic island suggestions here: Also also, I think that finding wanderers with the genes is a good idea to obtain them but I think that there should be other requirements to unlock them in the mutation menu that may be specific to island. Maybe for the dome head it could be to be hit by coconuts 25 times on the island for example.

  15. I know I've read something about this in a suggestion before, but I think it must've been a post about something else because I can't find it If anyone else knows where it is you could add a link in the comments for me? Anyhoo, from what I remember this post suggested that nichelings with horns/antlers would have an option over them (like with the purr snout) to charge. They would then go in one direction continually until they bumped into something. If that something happened to be another animal it would be dealt damage. While I love the idea of being able to charge into other amimals and deal damage, I can't see this method working. I think it would work better if it was more like the swooping interaction that winged nichelings can use to attack rabbils and crabbits With my method, all genes under the horn slot (other than antennae of course) would give nichelings a charge stat. It wouldn't be something that has levels but instead would be something nichelings either have or don't have like the stats for being venomous or having a distasteful scent. Nichelings with this stat would have an option over larger animals (bearyenas, walrus deer, ramfoxes, balance bears and the two bears that will be added in the upcoming update) or other nichelings within their travelling range that would allow them to charge at it. They would then move from their current space to the nearest space beside whatever they're attacking, and would deal however much damage their strength dictates. They could also stun whatever they're attacking, which would work the same as coconuts falling on a nichelings head

And my friend said "I AM THE EVIDENCE" the grey couch thing came from when we were in the hallway next to 5th grade lockers. My friend pointed out that one of the name tags on the locker said "[her name but she didn't notice. They had someone with the same name.] grey-couch." Then I pointed out to her it said her name on it and we laughed. One day in science I mashed them together. the cough part came when I was trying to spell couch for the grey-couch joke and misspelled it.

  27. Our brave Kinarri reincarnation, King Tiki, has passed away and gone back to Tyni. Queen Relen is devastated, but hopes her incoming bundle o' joy will take her mind off it. I added a few syllables to the name list and made sure to exit the game and then reenter. I also backed up the save. The game crashed twice in arow: once when I opened the game it turned black and then didn't respond, the second time it went fine until i tried going into the save, then it tried to load but stopped responding. ALSO I renamed this thread cause I wanted to. I wanted to name the Kingdom after the first Queen, but that would mean it would be Kingdom of Armored Ladies. wait maybe I should keep it that way... PLEASE SUGGEST NAMES for my creatures bc I need more. Snowlily has a kid! Queen Relen has a kid! Kid galore! Also the Yellow-Black creatures are back and I'm tired with it by now. Skyapus and Landapus die 😧 (Landapus had taken a day of damage bc I had accidentally drowned him whoopsie) kid is born (when my commentary is boring, that means I'm bored ) A Defender bear spawned and it freaked me out because the day before Snowlily had killed a stagmole but thankfully it only spawned today so it didn't see the murder. I'm scared to even let Snowlily fish 😧 this pains me oh I forgot to say earlier that Savannah died kiddo wanderer is found. Also Nota has 2 days to live, and Lensi will have one day of adulthood before he dies. Thus, I have them set up so they can have one child before Nota dies. Oops, sorry, I mean, Nota has taken an interest in Lensi, and Lensi in him. Also, since Lensi is the only member of Savannah's line, that means that if the child/children she has with Nota are her only children, Savannah's line will be merged with the Red Gem line. Queen Relen invites in the wanderer, and they fall in love. Prilur becomes King, and Relen is soon pregnant again. okay, a question: do Defender Bears only attack if they see an attack within their eyesight? Or do they attack if any creature in the tribe, no matter where they are, attacks something? anyways Lensi grows up and gets pregnant with Nota's kid. Relen and Lensi set up their nests on oppisite sides of the river.

  28. A humped Nicheling can still collect for the tribe with a full hump, but I do see what you mean with them automatically storing it. Perhaps they should choose when to store it.
    1 point
  29. I understand the concept, I personally just don’t understand the application. If I have a humped nicheling collect 6 pieces of food in a starving tribe, I don’t understand why I would want to store any as I would want everybody to eat and my humped nicheling would take one piece of food anyways regardless if it was stored or in the tribe food stash.
    1 point
  30. Here are some other genes with similar functions: And yea I also don’t totally get the idea of storing food for individual nichelings and would rather have it for the entire tribe but it seems other people see the use.

  31. Jewlelcraft dies from the famine, but Rosewood ensures everyone else eats the best she can. She is a fantastic huntress- so good that Garden wishes she would have made her join Wrath. Like a miracle, the bearyena that they tamed from before returns. Lifeblood mates with it. To add onto that, a young male is seen in tribe territory, only a teen. His name is Redpine. He takes his place at the stones, and everyone rejoices when two needed spots light up- Wrath and Lust. "Which do you choose?" Asks Garden. "Lust," says the male. Soon after, he finds an orphaned kit. "What's your name?" he asks gently. "Newspring," he responds. "Well Newspring, would you like to join me?" "Sure!" "You've got talent," says Rosewood to Redpine. Newspring comes of age shortly after. At his ceremony, one stone lights up- Wrath! Garden is pleased to see someone take the Wrath position, which she secretly misses herself. Newspring is not too physically strong, but his poison fangs are surely an asset in battle, giving him an advantage. His skills are tested when shortly after, a bearyena tries to get after the tribe. It leaves a scar across his shoulder and runs off. Either way, Garden dies of old age, and Newspring must take his place as leader as a teen. The tribe is also joined by Grizzly. At her ceremony, four stones light up- Lust, Wrath, Envy, and Greed. "You will join Wrath," says Newspring. The bearyena from before returns, and Grizzly shows off her skill by killing the beast alone. Newspring realizes that they are alone- just four teens trying to carry on tradition. Can he handle it?

  32. Now that they have a place to settle down, it basically becomes Breeding season. Since it takes too long to describe how everyone tells eachother how much they love them, I'll just list the pairings: Prince Birch and Isella (they've always been best friends, then it curved into Romantic) Skyapus and Snowlily okay we didn't have as much as I thought lol Savannah has a beautiful daughter named Lensi.

  33. All in all great suggestions We are in the process of planning the next steps at the moment and are happy to see what the players would like to see in the game. I personally think that we'd probably first get the progression system going and do some not boss related content before implementing such jewels like your ideas into the game. Nevertheless, it's good that you made them as we will have a look at it whenever it's time to make it happen.

  36. Again, each gene should be given its own post. I would definitely give the head +1 strength seeing as wolverines are predatory and use their relatively powerful jaws for hunting. The legs are pretty cool but because they are so short I can't see them working for nichelings. For starters, imagine how silly a nicheling would look if it had just 1 wolverine leg and the other was a normal length leg. They would also need new models for the bodies so that the bodies would work with the different sized legs. The horizontal stripes would be great, although I don't see why they would add extra camouflage

  37. Entry 2: The Next Generation Much growing up has been done. Marie has grown into a caretaker of great compassion. Pignolo and Polvorón grow into full farmer and warrior, respectively. Prince Banoffee has reached adulthood, and the twin prince and princess have just hit teen years, and are beginning education under their parents just like their older brother. In the nursery, there is much awe and soft cooing as Kleicha has just given birth to her last child, a daughter named Shortbread. She's a very fast little kit, and Kleicha has to keep a one eye on her at all times to make sure she does not run headlong into danger. Semprong comes of age and gazes into the crystal. Inside she sees an herb or a berry. Hoping to make her parents proud... "I choose to join the farmers!" she declares excitedly. Presiding over his first ceremony, Banoffee nods, twitching nervously but otherwise calm. "Excellent. Sugar, you are a farmer with great fortitude and determination, you will mentor Semprong" he decides. Sugar nodds eagerly, happy at the chance to teach her daughter the fine points of farming. Mother and daughter walk off together, Sugar talking about how best to harvest berries and crack open nuts. Paprenjak continues to teach Pizelle. They get along very, very well. Panellets often shoots suspicious glares at Paprenjak when his pack is turned. Pizelle is making great progress in her hunting skills, but she's having trouble learning how to properly stalk stagmoles. Paprenjak promises she'll get a handle on it soon. After a hard labor, Macaron births a son she names Snickerdoodle. Due to the prolonged labor and worrying amount of bleeding, Marie advises that this should be Macron's last pregnancy. The senior healer agrees that Snickerdoodle will be her last child. He's another one with an odd face, but since nobody has been near Macron, Ma'amoul accepts that his children born with odd snouts must just be oddities and not a sign of infidelity. He apologizes to Pignolo for his rough treatment and promises to make amends. Hunter Kleicha is hiding in the background, taking care of a persistent bunnil infestation that is bothering the healers. She manages to kill the bunnils and everyone is much happier. A long drought holds the clan in it's clutches. According to the weather-sensitive healers, there won't be rain until three more days have passed everyone has to suffer in the heat for a while. The queen and king decide to have one more child, hoping for one genetically distinct enough to continue the royal line. Jaffa, hanging out with Marie after a day of exterminating bunnils, faces her quietly. "I don't know what to do, Marie" he starts. "I was the only one in the clan without a mate. And I shall die without having any pups of my own" he laments. Marie looks down, sadness clouding her features. She had grown up with Jaffa there. Not having any descendants made the thought of death feel unbelievably permanent. "Jaffa, I will be your mate. You won't die childless" she promises. Jaffa is shocked, but does not protest. The next day, Marie announces to the clan that she is pregnant. Everyone is excited for her and Jaffa. Pizelle finally manages to take down her first stagmole. Her whole family is proud of her improvement. Many are already certain that she will be a fine hunter. The babies continue to putter around the nursery, learning the legends and getting stronger in preparation for their training. Shortbread comes of age and gazes into the crystal. Shining on the surface is a berry. "I'm a farmer!" she declares exuberantly. "Wonderful, wonderful. Now... Pignolo, you have proven to be a very good farmer. I believe you make the best mentor for Shortbread" Banoffee says. Pignolo and Shortbread walk off together, discussing the duties of a farmer in low voices. Snickerdoodle is up next. He sees three symbols on the crystal's surface - A berry, a herb, and a bunnil. Faced with his weakness, unability to purr, and small build, he knows he cannot fight or heal. "I will join the farmers" he decides. "Very good. Jammie, you trained Pignolo well and I hope you do the same for Snickerdoodle" Banoffee smiles. Jammie nods and quickly takes Snickerdoodle out to the berry bush stand to start his training. Sugar and Jammie have their last child, a little girl named Speculaas. Due to her growing age, Sugar decides that this shall be her last child. A pregnant Marie can be seen by Jaffa, but is very amusingly hiding behind a tree. Speculaas is a curious child who always seems interested in everything. The queen births another (genetically unique!) son she names Brownie. But with this comes a sobering reality. The eldest prince calls the clan to a meeting. Meanwhile, Marie births Jaffa's son, a young male named Stroopwafel. He's got the looks of his father, and definitely the strength of his father, but the gentler nature of Marie. He proves to be a popular pup for his mild manners and obedient nature. Prince Banoffee faces the clan gathered below his stump, sitting tall and proud. "My clanmates! The kingdom of Bakery must expand it's territory if it is to prosper. Two members of the royal family will go forward, along with the youngest generation of the clan. They will travel to the next suitable isle, and conquer it in the name of the king!" The clan whispers nervously. "Who will go?" Jaffa calls above the heads of the others. Banoffee thinks for a long moment. "Oreo and Brownie will go from the royal family. Who will the famers send? You will send two!" he declares. "Semprong and Snickerdoodle" Jammie and Sugar decide. "And who will the healers send? You may send two" Banoffee asks. "Rosette and Marie" Ma'amoul and Macron reply. "And the hunters? You may send two" Banoffee questions, turning to Panellets and Kleicha. "Paprenjak and Pizelle" the two senior hunters declare. "Finally, the guards. Who will you send?" the prince wonders. "Polvorón and Stroopwafel" Jaffa declares. The prince looks down, deep in thought. "Very well. If your name was called, please begin heading to the east port. Everyone else can remain in camp and continue with their normal duties" he calls. With that, he climbs off the stump and disappears into the throne room. In a few days, the small group of ten is packed to leave at the port. They have been granted some food for the trip by the clan. Life will go on as usual on Home island, but the adventuring group's story has just begun.

  39. (literally everyone who suggests new hindlegs forgets this ) The hindlegs would need at least 1 Swimming, as a creature born in the water without any genes adding swimming ability wouldn't ever be able to move. All hindlegs have to have at least 1 Speed and 1 Swimming so that problems with moving won't occur.

  42. Vankirvan is my main nicheling OC, and really the only Nicheling I've gotten really attached to (so far). In the beginning I didn't have the game though; I had created him by studying the genes of the game and drawing him from there, and so, I made a backstory (which has changed quite a lot by now). He has a missing medium tail, since he was attacked by a bearyena as a child. He was rescued and raised by all his older siblings until he was healthy once more, and by then he had developed a hatred for bearyenas. His tribe later found a baby bearyena, which Vankirvan tried to lead away and loose among the grasses. But his only younger sibling, Tarela, caught him and brought the bearyena back. Vankirvan watched as it grew, growing more fearful of it by the day even though his siblings always made sure it stayed away from him. But his fear turned to dread when he realized Tarela had fallen in love with Don (the bearyena) and was expecting his baby. The baby was born, a male named Clawduk, with a monstrous bearyena face. And things only grew worse after Vankirvan and Clawduk were swept away from their island during a storm and washed up in a jungle a few islands away. Now Vankirvan must raise his sister's monster baby and get them both out of the danger-filled jungle alive... I was thinking of making a comic about Vankirvan's full story, what do you think? Anyways, here's the first version of him. His horns, poison fangs, medium ears, hind legs, and lean body have never changed. Mind you this was back when there were only stripes and panda pattern for markings. (2016) This next version of him was created after the new pattern system came out. I didn't know how they worked so I just drew whatever pattern came to mind. This version of him also has a runner leg and a velvet paw, just like his next one. (2017) These next two versions are final, current versions, mostly the first one since he has his runner leg and velvet paw. For some reason I gave the most recent one a nimble fingers and a runner leg. I like his tenrec-like face in the 2017 one, but I think I drew his body better in the 2018 version. (2017) (2018) And I was originally going to try and create him through breeding, but with this new update I can MAKE HIM! So I did, and I finally have him IN MY GAME!

  43. The father Bearyena was repelled, but the mother was having none of this. She knows that the Peaceful Bear is just a big sissy. There's the daddy. He's still being a wuss. Meanwhile, more children are born. The tribe is growing fast, and with the food so low, the tribe may starve at any moment. The mother Bearyena is finally dead. We tame the child. Meanwhile, an ice block is spotted not far away. But first, Daddy Bearyena wants custody of his now teenage son. And a poor wanderer is caught in the middle of it all. Daddy is promptly killed, but before our tribe can eat the delicious meat, that wanderer promptly steals our food! "HEY!" Riperella yells. "We needed that! Our tribe's about to starve to death!" We invite her in anyway. The next day, Mr. Rippenpeace and Riperella pass away. Riperella's bones bless the nest where sleeps her last baby. A little seer for the tribe. Finally, some scouts reach ice block and find...a toxic bodied, transgender female nicheling named Lianare. I accidentally poison a child. :,( She looks like her poison-fanged mother, okay!? Another Bearyena comes. He is here to avenge the deaths of his friends!

  45. I think it would be cool to add a new game mode that makes things a bit more challenging. In this game mode the game starts with a tribe of animals (maybe around 5 or so). Things are peaceful for a short time and then the earth starts shaking. The island you are living on is slowly falling apart. Your tribe needs to reach the next island exit as fast as possible! And this is how it keeps being from now on. Every island you enter will fall apart after some time, so run for your lives! You only have a short amout of time to gather up resources before heading to a harder island. This adds an interesting time restriction to the game which makes every single decision more important. Maybe this could even be a story thing, like Adam's story. With a small intro and an end goal: Reach Paradise Island. An island full of food and where earth quakes can't reach you.

  46. I like the idea. But I think these stats would be more appropriate: +2 Smelling, +1 Strength, +1 Digging Gathering and Defense seem a little out of place for this head type. And this allows it to have a decently good smelling without it being overpowered.
