  1. So, you know that challenge I made, An Honestly Hard Challenge? Well, I upgraded it (I'll post the upgrade soon). And it's hard. So let's see who can survive the longest! Reply to join. I'll make a list here. Once you join, you can start the challenge. Just make sure to write your journal in the Playthroughs. (you don't have to quote me or anything, I'll find it!) Unlimited amount of people are allowed to join. The only goal of this challenge is to survive as long as possible. You may travel to a different island, but it can't be an easier one; it has to be either the same level or harder (than Grass Mingle; so if you went from Grass Mingle to Deadly Hills, you could go back to a Grass Mingle-level island, but you can't go to Tiny Green.) IN ADDITION TO THE BELOW SETTINGS, YOU CANNOT USE MUTATIONS!! YOU MUST ALSO START ON GRASS MINGLE! The file for the settings, which will hopefully work since I've never tried sharing sandbox settings before: Honestly Very Hard Chal.sandbox The settings in case this thing above doesn't work: I put webbed paw, gills, and no-pattern in the forbidden genes because I don't like them, plus your creature needs SOMETHING they can do! I put No-Horns in the forbidden genes just to make sure your creature has at least 1 attack, which will help a lot. You can change the name, rank, and gem colors if you so wish. The World Settings are the same as default. The end! Please reply here to join the challenge! By the way, there isn't a prize, other than the fact that you and everybody else on the forums will know you won. By the way, this challenge CAN be survived! I have a tribe that is current (barely) surviving on 85 days, with 5 creatures and 20 food. The current breeding pair has had four children, the first three have all been killed before they became teens, and the fourth was just born but she'll probably die soon. (but that will make the defender bear beside her angry and it'll kill the bearyena, so that's good.) By the way, this isn't the tribe I'm using. I'm probably gonna abandon that one and start a new tribe for the journal thing. A TIP: BEWARE THE LEECHES. If your creature bleeds, they die. If they have spiky body, and another creature licks them, the creature that licked will die. Also, coconuts will probably kill you (I haven't tried), so beware those too. 7. Sometimes this challenge is easy, and sometimes your breeding pair has three children, all of which are killed by bearyenas within two days of their birth. Let's hope your tribe does whatever is most entertaining

  8. I actually tried to do something similar to this with a save I had called “Don’t Slip”, where it was basically just that Also if you really want to be an epic gamer (or just an idiot), start on Deadly Hills or any island coined as “Deadly”! Home Island does not count!

  9. I suggest borrowing a few features from real life microchips to make Nimbatus logic smaller and more straightforward. Take it from the people who have to build it in real life, they know how to keep things simple. Output Enable - Nearly every real chip and sensor more complex than a NAND gate has at least one "OE" pin. Why? It's so convenient! Imagine two proximity sensors on the same key, how to choose which one gets listened to? In Nimbatus that needs three gates - two AND gates plus an inverter. With real devices, you'd just turn one sensor off. Inverted Outputs - I'm not the first to ask for this and I know why -- half my logic is inverters! There's no logic simplification for A&!B. I always wish I had inverted outputs for: Proximity sensors Direction indicators Toggle switches Speedometers Altitude Indicators Impulse Drivers Fuel Tanks Actually -- anything and everything with outputs, no exceptions Complementary Outputs - Just an 'invert this output' checkbox isn't enough. All too often we need both outputs simultaneously. You see this all the time in real microchips. Look up "flip flop". Inverted Inputs - Given complementary outputs, there's extremely few places inverted inputs are still be needed, but the adjustable-strength engine is one. I can never get that thing working quite right. I'd ask for separate invert/not invert checkboxes for the throttle up and throttle down options. Either that, or more consistent behavior when both inputs are activated. Heck, how about both? And now, a few basic parts I'd suggest adding. I want to keep them simple. I don't want to replace all the stuff people are building, just let them build things with fewer parts and especially, build things they couldn't before. Monostable Multivibrator - A "triggered impulse driver' which delivers only one pulse per activation. Jumper/Bus - A buffer that drives many output keys together. What for? "When you see the whites of the enemy's eyes, FIRE ALL ENGINES!" R/S Flip Flip - Similar to the on/off switch, with complementary outputs and more consistent behavior. It's the one and only piece of logic needed for a basic 2-engine, 2-sensor wall follower! And now, more esoteric things I know won't make it in the game but I'm hopeful for anyway because they're impractical to build right now: Priority Encoder - Suppose you have two sets of input, a direction indicator A B for 'move towards enemy' and a pair of proximity indicators C D for 'goodness the edge of the ring looks rather close'. They control the same steering engines D E. You can't use output enable for this, because you can't ignore the edge sensor when the bell tolls for thee. The logic is something awkward like E=((A|B)&A)|(!(A|B)&C), F=((A|B)&B)|(!(A|B)&D), 9 gates, 7-8 if you cheat. Even if it was a 2x3 part I'd save space. Binary Counter - Toggle-switches aren't good enough, a counter made from those causes glitches. A real, synchronous, one-part counter of just 2 or 3 bits would save a lot of hair-pull. Binary 1-of-4 Decoder - To use with the binary counter. It'd replace the "stop lights" I build from delay lines and xor gates. What for? Imagine this sequence: Charge pulse engine attached to dynamite. Decouple dynamite. Fire pulse engine. Detonate. Master-Slave Flip Flop - Kind of like a switch which can only change the instant its 'enable' input is activated. The thorniest glitches sometimes require these to solve them. They're a basic part in digital electronics, but want a ridiculous number of gates to make - at least nine per bit. Nine. Not to mention how slow they'd be built from basic parts, they'd take a handful of game ticks to respond.

  10. Hi! So I'm not usually the type to be active on forums, but I love Niche so here goes nothing! I use the Niche Amino a lot, so the characters in images first and fifth are gifts or requests for other people on there ( Anaresi is the username of the owner of the first one, and the fifth one is owned by Spice). The second image is just a boy of mine, and the third and fourth are of a nicheling with some made up genes ( cough freckle pattern cough ) that I use to represent myself! Third image, I drew because I dyed my hair ombre pink, and the fourth is just cropped from the reference sheet I made for them. I'm rambling, right? Anyways, these are basically in order of age, which is weird because I think the oldest one is my favorite. But I have so many slightly different art styles that I'm not surprised some of these look worse than others. The first one is from October, and the last one is from either late February or sometime this month. And this isn't all the art I've made in that timespan, just a few of my favorite sin a sea of mehhhhh. Anyways, I hope you like my art! I'm down to take requests and stuff like that, but if I get a lot of them I'm sorry if I can't take them all. Thanks for reading! Also, sorry if the resolution on these is bad, I draw on my phone and on my iPad so the quality drops a little transferring them to my laptop.

  11. Okay I hope I'm doing this right. Here goes nothing. So I accidentally made the starting creature only 7 days old but she turned into a teen the next day so that's fine Luckily, Riperella is the most distasteful nicheling on the planet. She also has a claw and velvet paw! Riperella continues to pick from this lone berry bush until her maturity. On day 9, Riperella finds a playmate. His name is Jack. Jack the Ripper. Day 15: Jack the Ripper finds his long lost sister, Rippi. Dodomingoes are everywhere! Riperella's hideous face and bright body and awful smelling tail are able to keep this bearyena away. FOR NOW Also Rippi got pregnant with a rogue male Oh noo (the red guy was a wanderer btw. I named him Help) Okay...a lot is happening We have a baby! With stinky tail! Seriously The rogue males are not helping at all We caught both wanderers after killing the already sort of old bearyena. ANOTHER scorpion!? And more bearyenas!? We attempt encircle the bearyena, hoping that it will see our hideous faces and back off. Also I forgot about the baby and it gets eaten by a stupid bluebread. :,( RIP. So my plan backfired and now Riperella AND the big bodied wanderer are both dead. RIP Riperella. At last, Isle is able to take down the vicious beast and tame its child. At least Rippi finally has her rogue son, Roro. Isle and Help decide to start a family. They make their pilgrimage back down to the Acorn Tree, where Help spent his youth. Two defender bears are waiting for them. I...don't...think? We attacked anything? I hope? OKAY. What is it with the savanna and....oh. Scorpion tail... young Kidon has the digging paw so he is being yeeted into the tribe

  14. Kurruku runs to the stream, hiding in the tall savanna grass. His yellow fur night save him... Thankfully, the bearyena didn't spot him! Kurruku safely crosses the stream and picks a few berries to keep himself fed. But he is alone... He suddenly hears something in the distance. It's another nicheling! The wanderer was starving because of her lack of ability to collect, so Kurruku offers her some of his berries, and she becomes part of the tribe. Somebody else is also sneaking around in the grass. Also we're getting very low on food! The rain gives the tribe more berries to keep themselves fed. Nishire, a half-bat and half-wolf comes out of the grass to investigate the strange creatures in her territory. They offer her some food, and she lets them stay.

  19. A squirrel! A squirrel with nimble fingers! His name is Silentelm and he's -- sneaky. The surprise The guy lead me to a nest, though. There's no food around it, but it's better than nothing. Correction: one normal bush and a not ape tree. Maybe that's the little Squirrel's home? Skipsight is all grown up and ready for romance I expect bad eye sight and stealth, but there's a chance for scorpion tail I just saw a wanderer in the grasses with double bat wing, big nose and antennae, but he died instantly from sickness. What a shame I hope Silentelm isn't found by a predator. In that case, we'd never be there in time. AAAAAHHHHHHH! TWINS!! Facesong did it again! Good eyesight! Big ears! Stealth! 5 fertility, too. Welcome Grasschive and Batelm. Did he name him after Silentelm? They do look awfully alike... Thankfully Splashgravel the Purrsnot has grown up. Thistegrass can stop baby sitting I'm guessing Fadingwillow is giving him a pep talk.

  28. I made a bad sketch! Yay! Meringue has adopted Prince as his son, along with Sky. Sky is excited. She has never had a child before. Meringue is thinking about staying home with Sky instead of running off after other females. Then he'll be a better father for Prince and any future children between Meringue and Sky. Real life Sky has adopted Renio into her Online Family. Which consists of her, you, two minecraftians, and one robloxian. She thinks you should make a creature that fully represents you (Niche persona, like Niche Sky, but Prince can still represent you like Meringue does for me), that way she can draw you and the rest of her Online Family together, instead of Prince. But she will draw Meringue and Sky and Prince together as well.

  29. We start with Shellheart. Named after the great Shellpaw (whose warriorname is Shelldapple btw)that is currently participating in the Miss Niche March 2019. Life doesn't look so great on the island without any acorn trees! So the next obvious food source is the stinky fruit tree. We get joined by Mousepelt. Who will be known as our founding male A bearyena can be heard in the grasses. RUN! We manage to avoid the bearyena sucessfully and a wanderer with a claw shows up. Sandpaw is happily invited into the clan. The first baby is born to Shellheart and Mousepelt. Moonkit, who is blind. Shellheart mates with a rogue male and Sandpaw gets her warriorname Sandclaw. Before Shellheart can have her baby, Mousepelt is killed by the defender bear and the three females run away. Luckily at that point Moonkit has grown into Moonpaw. Shellheart settles down in a nest, far away from the defender bear, and gives birth to Snowkit. The child of the rogue. Another defender bear appears, Shellheart can also smell some meat. She bravely jumps into the fray to test if the bear is hostile and to see if she can get her paws on that meat. The bear turns out to be friendly. We also find a baby with the sticky tongue which is perfect because we found some termite hills on the way to the current home of the clan. The baby is named Antkit. Goddamit that is a sticky situation. Especially because I really don't want to loose Antkit. Everybody moves as far as they can, and Shellheart leaps in the way to defend the babies. The Nichelings Gods however seem to be with me as the bearyena just runs away. The clan starts to wander away from the bearyena towards their old camp by the stinky fruit tree. On the way Moonpaw gets her warriorname Mooneye. She and Antpaw seek out the termite hill. When Snowkit grows up they plan on checking out if the old defender bear is still mad. Snowkit grows into Snowpaw and the defender bear is fine. The Nichelings turn into vegetarians (only when the bear is looking). Sandclaw settles down in the original nest where Moonkit was born and gives birth to Mousepelt's last child Stagkit. Beechpaw is invited into the clan. Mainly because of her claw. Antpaw has grown up and is named Anteater. He and Sandclaw breed. Snowpaw is named Snowpelt. Anteater and Snowpelt breed as well to avoid any more rogue babies (Mooneye is already pregnant from another rogue). Beechpaw and Stagpaw head down to the beech to collect coconuts. Beechpaw gets her warriorname Beechwhisper. Beechwisper breeds with a rogue (who should be stunned by a coconut). That's a lot of red. Minnowkit is born. The last baby of Shellheart and a rogue male. Mudpaw is invited into the clan and because the defender bear disappeared Sandclaw starts fighting the bearyenas. Stagpaw gets his warriorname Staglight and Softfur is invited into the clan. Mudpaw managed to get spotted by the dBear and is running like a maniac. He isn't very fast though, so I am expecting the worst to happen. Mudfrost manages to shake the dBear and is named Mudfrost. Anteater ate from a hostile termite hill and Snowpelt dies to make him better, because I need my ant boy. Sandclaw gives birth to Anteater's first child. Redkit. Minnowkit, who grew up as Staglight's and Beechwhispers adopted son, grows into Minnowpaw. A dBear passes away and we get some food. Nice. Because of the good food stores I feel generous and invite Webbedfoot and Reedflight into the clan. Webbedfoot has been hanging around for some time but I never bothered with inviting him until now. A new dBear shows up but upon inspection it is noticed that he is already pretty old (only 7 days to live) so not much changes. Hunting will be postponed until he dies. Interestingly enough Webbedfoot was beleeched but didn't die when I skipped the day (I literally copied the sandbox file into my game so I didn't mess up the settings). Guess the leeches aren't as deadly on the first day as I expected. Sweet. Minnowpaw is named Minnowfin and Mudfrost is running from the defender bear again. Poor guy. He hides behind the peaceful bear until the dBear buggers off. The second defender bear died of old age and the Bearyena that was hanging around was killed as well. Food looks good. Coconutkit is born to Sandclaw. Whitekit is born to Mooneye. Redpaw gets his warriorname Redstrike. Stonekit is born to Beechwhisper. I don't expect much of him but now Staglight can finally have some kits. Little Beekit is invited into the tribe and named Beepaw the next day. With the help of coconut trees and Redstrike (Webbedfoot helped as well) we have our first friendly bearyena. Yes! Berryspike, an older warrior, is invited into the tribe and send towards the friendly bearyena. We need some strength! A bearyena spawned by Beechwhisper and Staglight. Luckily a defender bear spawned right next to it. The bearyena didn't even take Stonekit as the offering it just ran. Coconutpaw and Beepaw get their warriornames Coconutfall and Beestripe. Two bearyenas attack and the defender bear isn't any help. So it is slaughter time. Sandkit is born to Beechwhisper and Staglight. Apparently one of her parents has some interesting genetics. Snailkit is born to Berryspike and the FBY. Bloodkit is born to Anteater and Softfur. Coconuts killed Webbedfoot some days ago. Mudfrost faced a bearyena and it ran away despite him attacking it! This is the luckiest Nicheling alive (I am seriously considering to name him the God of Luck). Redstrike takes down the bearyena and we have our third FBY. Whitepaw and Stonepaw become warriors. Whitepaw is named Whitemoon after his mother and Stonepaw is named Stoneleap. Hopkit is born to Mudfrost and Softfur. Another bearyena has found Mudfrost. This time he can get away soon enough. Fiercekit is born to Staglight and Beechwhisper. The friendly uncle dBear says hello to Fiercekit. Softfur is killed by the bearyena. Obviously Mudfrost's plan backfired to lure the bearyena towards Redstrike and Coconutfall. Luckily Anteater leaps in to protect the kits and a FBY is there to help as well. Redstrike kills the bearyena in the end but the clan is mourning for Softfur. Slowkit is born to Berryspike and the first FBY. Another bearyena shows up right next to Redstrike. Bad idea. Redstrike kills the bearyena with ease and we have our fourth FBY. Dustdapple is invited into the clan. Strongkit is born to Coconutfall and the first FBY. Day 101 resources In retrospect I expected the challenge to be way harder. Probably have to start on deadly hills next time or something ^^

  33. Double Yikes If I kill it, one of them will be killed by the defender. If I run, it might not get anyone. I'm not sure where to go. There's an oak tree, but it's so close to the ape one. But I'm missing out on so many days she could be pregnant. Better have the baby now. There's a defender nearby. Not good. Facesong can't really do anything, but I'll need a guard. Correction, I need to run. Facesong just saved the unborn's life There she is. Full eyesight and fertility. Momma spider has to be so proud. We're starting to runner low-ish on food, so I'll release her Fadingwillow. It's been good, but we don't have the resources, surrounded by toxic berry bushes. A beaky boy? He's running away, but lead me to a normal + shrivelled berry bush. Good job, thistlegrass! He's bad at hiding, though. Shortsighted with low-ish fertility.

  43. Let’s see, hm... The platypus child could be something like Ivory or Smokewhite (actual colour!) if you want to name it after his fur colour, or something like Snapdragon or Yucca if you want to name him after a flower. The little bat could be something like Cinnabar or Redwood, and I think Cardinal works too. Or choose something generic like “Batty” ajsjsjssk Also, I have no preference who leads.

  45. This is Rikuta, his name is a combination of his father's name and his mother's name. His mother needed to pass on an immunity gene before she died but had no mate. His father desperatly wanted a mate and to be a father. They happened to meet on his mother's last day alive. She died as she gave birth to Rikuta.
