Hey folks We just uploaded a new version (1.1.8) of the "Sandbox settings" update on the tester branch! Please don't forget that this is a tester branch. Things are buggy here. If you want to play with precious save files from earlier versions, it's adviced to make a back up first. What has changed in this new version? New features: Added win conditions Improvements: Better balancing for Defender Bears Rogue Males can now be stunned by coconuts Animals with one bat and one bird wing can fly now Rogue Males should be more scared when attacked now Fixes: J Immunity can no longer be found in iceblocks Fixed Tribe Size limit bug Males and Female names are no longer mixed up Fixed Rogue Male age problems Oak Trees can now be deactivated in sandbox mode settings Fixed animal skills display problem im family tree Fixed animals that had their eyes closed after being warmed up Please help us to test if all the new things are working! To do so, you can head over to Steam. Right click on Niche in your game library, select properties, open the Betas tab, enter the password. The password is: NicheTesterBranch Select tester_branch from the drop down. The game should now be updating. If now, restart Steam. Happy testing and please report all bugs here. It would be especially great if you can keep an eye out for these sneeky bugs: Are peaceful bears still invisible on regrowing grass? How are the Rogue Males reacting when you attack them with a female? Thank you ❤️9 points

Stellaluna with her mother Sielsi. These two are nichelings that I have in my Fruitlies Fruit Bat challenge save. I love Stellaluna because she looks like the perfect fruit bat, not only for the challenge but in general. Look at this adorable little guy! I really want gathering added to bat wings so I can have a colony of fruit bats without having to worry about them starving lol. Inspired by this screenshot with her now late mother. I might do one of her and her father Tangerine (the orange one at the top of the pic) in a tree when she was a juvenile, also based off a screenshot. She grew up so fast even though the challenge requires Nichelings to become adults at 12 days old or something.7 points

So I made this! It features all of the nichelings that I tend to see the most around the forums, plus some others that I am guessing are favorites to certain members So anyway, here is a surprise Piskel featuring Bostonlobstah, Prince, Ossen, Dragon Tear, Meringue, Likana, Perdita, Adam II, Pacific, Queen Frostil, Felicity, Oakblaze and Duki! It's still a WIP! If you don't own any nichelings above, and want yours added, or if you own a nicheling above but want them replaced, just say so!6 points

That is the case! Spawn rates of genes are always based on biome. The only exception here are ice blocks, since they can be founds in cold biomes only. Who knows what the biome looked like when they were alive 10000000 years ago4 points

This is the biggest barrier to succeeding in the racetrack. I've tried so many approaches, none of which work... Screw it, Don't Bother - Lots of little contraptions win races by bouncing or spinning with little regard to fine steering. You can get good speeds with a very small drone. But with 50% dead weight they can only go so fast. Direction Indicator Steering. Engines hooked directly to the direction indicator. Like above, your engines spend 50% of the time not working, and if you hit the dead spot, your ship just ... stops. Inverted Direction Indicator Steering. Instead of turning one engine on to steer, you turn one engine off. This sounds better and isn't. You spend all your time bouncing with one engine disabled anyway. Feel free to move your engines inward for less torque until you slam into walls. Alternately, you can increase the dead zone until you slam into walls. Drift Steering. Same as above with careful angling and placement of engines relative to center of mass to supply lateral acceleration. This helps avoid the walls, but promotes understeering, and can oscillate like anything else. Steering Compensation - Killing that oscillation by any means, including but not limited to: Springs - Lets you isolate oscillations to certain parts. Doesn't stop oscillations, but hey, at least you're pointed the right way more frequently. Pulse engines to stop your turn. This takes so much dead weight. I've seen racers that are 50% sideways pulse engine. Variable Speed Engines - I'll never run out of ideas for them, none of which ever work since they're SO LAGGY! Even just on/off has horrible lag. Byzantine Logic Arrangements - Delays, et cetera to reverse steering pre-emptively and halt overshoot. Still exploring this but even logic is slow at ramjet speeds. Rube Goldbergian Mechanical Arrangements - My specialty. I've made feedback loops of direction indicators and powered joints to manage over/understeer. Faster than digital logic. Maybe one day I'll find an arrangement that works in narrow turns. Not today. Brute Force - Make your ship so big oversteer is less of a problem and/or losing parts to impacts matters less. I've been able to think my way around most problems but this has me close to beat..3 points

I submit my beautiful Plumstar. I seriously love him so much. He is my God of determination. And Blizzardstar from my JuniperClan playthrough which I plan on continuing one day( redoing in sandbox). Blizzardstar was voted to be leader because the clan didn't like the current leader and she took parts of JuniperClan to the archipelago She is very humble and never planned to become leader3 points

Alright, I'm finally back to it! This is an idea that I've kinda mentioned around in other posts, but I think that it's finally time to make it its own post. Many people are in support of the popular heterochromia gene, but I think it would be a waste to have a gene slot created only for heterochromia. This is where my idea comes in, the gene slot for heterochromia would have several other alleles that I'm about to propose as well. I would say that all of these genes would normally not be accessible through the mutation menu, but lemme know what you guys think. First, the most dominant allele would be the "Normal Eye Color" allele. It's exactly what it sounds like, the creature will present what it's normal eye color would be. For example, if a creature has a black eye color allele and a blue eye color allele, the creature will present the black eye color because the black eye color allele is more dominant than the blue eye color allele. This is the only allele I think you would be able to find in the mutation menu similar to no melanism and no albinism, and it would automatically be unlocked. After the standard allele, there would be the "More Melanin" and "Less Melanin" alleles. These are pretty standard and would either make the normally presented eye color darker or lighter respectively. Having blue eyes and the "Less Melanin" allele could create gray eyes for those who want that. The next most dominant would be the "Mixed Eye Color" allele. The primary inspiration for this allele is from hazel eyes which are generally considered a mix between brown and green. With this allele present, the nicheling will display the primary eye color alleles with incomplete dominance which basically just means that the two will present mixed. If a creature is homozygous for their primary eye color, then this allele would not present any differently than if the creature had the "Normal Eye Color" allele. (Side note: I wasn’t sure if the “More Melanin” allele was necessary seeing as it can also be achieved through having the “Mixed Eye Color” allele and a black eye color allele. Lemme know if you think I should keep it as two ways to get the same outcome or if there’s anyway you think I could differentiate them.) Next would be the heterochromia alleles. I would like to propose both "Dominant Heterochromia" and "Recessive Heterochromia" alleles where the "Dominant Heterochromia" would have the dominant eye color on the right and the recessive eye color on the left and the "Recessive Heterochromia" would be vice versa. The only reason for the two different alleles would just to have more controllable variability for heterochromia. Finally, there would be the speckled eye color alleles. Like heterochromia, I propose two alleles for variability: "Dominant Specs" and "Recessive Specs". "Dominant Specs" would be the dominant eye color with recessive specs, and "Recessive Specs" would be the recessive eye color with dominant specs. So the dominance order would be Normal Eye Color > More Melanin > Less Melanin > Mixed Eye Color > Dominant Heterochromia > Recessive Heterochromia > Dominant Specs > Recessive Specs I might make concept art soon, so if you have any ideas for how you think these alleles should look in the genotype, lemme know! Here are posts that these alleles were inspired by:2 points

Hello! This is my first time making a suggestion but lets just get on to it 😊 Deserted Island I thought of a new island! More like a stereotypical deserted island. It would probably be warm and would have next to no wanderers, considering it would be deserted. Most likely it would have palm trees and plenty of crabbits.2 points

I noticed that at a certain distance or angle from my nichelings a big shadow appears, as if a big cloud were passing overhead or something. The first picture shows this shadow, and as you can see the shadow covers areas that should be light. After I shifted the camera a little bit the shadow disappeared.2 points

Fun fact: in earlier versions of the game, if you killed Adam on the first island and clicked “restart game with the same bloodline” you actually get two children with Adam’s genes2 points

I really wish they would implement more diverse colour schemes. Especially something spotted or tuxedo cat-y...2 points

Bow before the mightiest captain in all the seven seas, Nordwind! No prisoners will be taken. See that crown of thorns? Every incision stands for a ship raided to the last life. Beware and pay your worth! Mom of the year, Sulphur. She was born to a tribe on the move, in midst of a jungle. However, her bright fur and poor smelling made her a major disappointment. Sulphur raised her abandoned siblings alone. Dubbed "bad" and defect, they had been discarded at birth. Outsmarting the seeing ape, she was eventually eaten instead of her sister's rogue child. Still, she was reincarnated, not her petty tribe. One day, Sulphur would have a family of her own, with no threats of apes or abandonment. She's finally free.2 points

Maybe just an option in the sandbox options: Small (Smaller than the normal islands. Omitted on tiny green etc.) Normal (Normal) Big (Bigger than normal. omitted on Deadly hills etc.) and Extra huge [Warning, High performance required] I don't expect a create your own island until Nimbatus and the 3rd game come out of beta...2 points

YES! FINALLY! Now I have to choose between Queen Amethyst and Queen Relen tho I choose Relen. Amethyst had quite a unique pattern, but Relen has blue eyes and beautiful pink/red horn color that affects her tail as well. Relen was the Queen of the Niche Competition Tribe for quite some time. Her mother, Queen Kami, gave birth to her as she passed away. If Queen Relen hadn't been born, the other baby girl born that day to a distant relative, isella, would be Queen. And if both Relen and Isella weren't born, Relen's older, but evil, sister would have taken over as Queen. Amber wanted to bring back the ways of the old times that Queen Amethyst so long ago got rid of. For the males, i have the perfect candidate. It is Lavender Eyes, descendant of Meringue himself. Not much else to say about him Please ignore the ugly gem color combinations. They were assigned before I updated to 1.1.7 and changed the gem colors.2 points

I had to sketch these genes, they sound so cool. I think a straight up manta ray head would be adorable, and though it might seem strange on a nicheling we have feathered wings and beaks so it might not be too weird. Also I feel like +2 or +3 fishing on the cephalic head would be better since manta mouths are greatly adapted for this. I based the tail off a stingray tail since mantas don't have barbs and I tried with the manta fins. They might be too big for a nicheling but I think the tail and cephalic head would work perfectly.2 points
