It's impossible to know what effect our actions have on other people. What we can do is to threat others kindly and with respect, the same way we would like to be threated ourselves. And even then someone might get upset sometimes because of reasons we don't understand. If we feel that someone got hurt, we can appologise and be more careful next time. If something causes you stress, it is usually a good idea to take a step back. So taking a break could be a good idea.7 points

So my biology teacher is considering Niche for when we get to genetics. Yay! Not all of my class mates are that great at English and Niche is very complicated anyways, so... Could we get a Finnish translation? I'd be more than happy to help with that. If not, I understand, you're already working on a lot of stuff.6 points

Added a new rule: 7) Think about your wording. If you don't like something, preferably use "I don't like" instead of "I hate", "... sucks", etc.6 points

I notice I keep tiers with wildly different tolerance levels. Short snout on a cute wanderer? Yeah, okay. Short snout on their kid? Possibly quite bad. Grandchild? Is there a bird? I'm not even sure where to start with that. Systematic discrimination seems pre-programmed, but reverse blood purity?? Niche just makes you want to half-sarcastically question yourself at 3 am in the morning.5 points

I usually tend to hate yellow fur but if I have a whole tribe with black fur a yellow Nicheling will be great looking because I need a alot of variety in my tribes. So in that sense I rarely sort out anybody for looks because I like different looks. However if I don't have enough different looks and a same looking Nicheling is born they might be in a little bit of a trouble.4 points

Does it count if I act like a fetus? :0 Because I sure do Im not sharing my age in this thread. I did a while ago; if you really want to know you can try to find the post4 points

Whenever I sacrifice a nicheling it's usually because they have too many water genes. Water genes are just bad for how I like to play.4 points

The designs and patterns you give your nichelings are incredible! Wow! I think my main point for improvement would be to round out the chest of your nichelings. As they currently are, it looks like they don't have much in the way of rib cages, which always makes me feel a little breathless (darn asthma). Other than that, I feel like the best way to improve would just be to challenge yourself to draw different poses and different genetics. (especially when I'm having an art block, I feel like it can be helpful to just try something entirely different, whether it's poses, genes or even mediums) I hope that helps!4 points

I love your angular style! I think for you I'd like to challenge you a little bit. I think it would be really interesting if you broke down the pieces even further in that angular style. So for example, rather than having the paw be a full shape in itself, break down the paw into its component shapes, which might help with some of your anatomy concerns as well. The same thing for the head, break it down to the skull, the ears, the muzzle. I also love your shading in the first drawing and think it would really help take your art to the next level if you leaned into that shading (keeping in mind the whole where is the light source thing, which it looks like you've already got a good hold on) I hope that helps!4 points

So, this was something my class did (us students did it, the teacher's only part was letting us do it and also writing compliments) at school. (There was only ten of us, so this worked well.) We labelled pieces of paper with our names, then passed the around in a circle. Everyone wrote an anonymous compliment on each person's paper. Eventually, your paper came back around to you, and you'd have a bunch of compliments, and you don't know whose is whose (except for when someone has very distinguished handwriting). That was really fun. So, I was thinking we could do something like that here on the forums. Comment on this thread if you want to join. I will close this in a few days, maybe we'll do it again if some people didn't get to do it and want to. Anyways, once I close it I'll send a PM to everyone with the usernames of everyone who has joined. You will then give your compliments for each of the people. Once everyone has submitted their compliments, I will put them all together and post them. You will not know who gave what compliment. I will give compliments as well, though if you guys want to compliment me you'll have to do your own PM together and have someone post them (after I post the rest of the compliments) so I don't know whose compliment is whose.3 points

I find a river with a central island tile and just make pointless nichelings swim laps in circles. Those kinds of rivers are usually in the rainforest though...3 points

Since the Settings won't work, I'll just start a save with it and share that. PM me with what settings you want it with and the island if you want to try it out3 points

Actually, true! Why sacrifice them to the waves when you can unlock spiky or toxic body?3 points

Why would anyone do that? The toxic berry bushes are so much more fun. The best way to sacrifice nicheling has to be carnivorous plants though.3 points

I hated happy feet because I had a nightmare once I was swimming with all the penguins in antarctica or wherever they lived and a huge, like the size of two houses, submarine came along and started sucking the penguins inside. I swam inside to help them and they all went through a pipe into a giant penguin meat grinder and they all died. and I was like 6 when I had this nightmare.. so I never watched happy feet again because I somehow thought that was what happened in the film- but my favourite film is big hero 6! it has been since I was like 73 points

I need help drawing. Here is my horrible artwork: (some of it I was looking at a picture and just drawing it, not tracing. Also, as they get older they become sideways for some reason)3 points

I really love how you use coloured pencils to not just colour but also create fur texture! Especially the last image, the colouring looks great! I think for you, my advice would be to break down all the parts of the nichelings into their components and use that to develop a kind of skeleton to use as a base when doing the full drawing. Even though nichelings are fictional creatures, most of their genes are based off real creatures, so you can use those for reference. Especially with things like the wings, I find it can be helpful to think about the basic mechanics of how they work and how we see them. So we don't really see all the fluffy feathers that are the base of the wings, we just see the general shape of the wings, which is primarily the primary and flight feathers. And honestly you can pretty much google anything and at least start getting some ideas about how to get started (example, I googled how to draw folded wings and got these results - it won't necessarily show you the exact pose you need, but by having an idea of the mechanics you can develop an idea of how they would work in that position) And once you know the mechanics, with some practice, you can get to the point where you don't need the references. I hope that helps!3 points

Mwahaha. But no, this is what happens kids, when you're not allowed a childhood. Don't be spacecat and inhabit personality states in a weirdly compartmentalized way.3 points

I haven't really done this. I meant to a long time ago, but I never did. First here's @RaanaTheBanana's drawings: Pibeno looks so cute as a pinto bean! I'd never expect it, but you did an amazing with this drawing. Qula is so cute in this! In fact, your entire art style is so cute. Now for @FlowerMask's drawings: I'm not sure if your okay with me posting this here, since it was private. Considering you posted it in another topic, I'm guessing it's alright. Anyways, Angel and Demon are perfect opposites here, the backgrounds are beautiful. The drawing is awesome. You did an amazing job with everyone here. There's so much floof and cuteness in just one pic. Qubi is so happy in this short animation, as if all the bad things in her life were washed away. It's really nice. These are by @pumpkinbro: Your art style is so cute! Vantata is so handsome in this picture. It's as if he embodies the cold itself. The moodboard representing Qula is so awesome. It really does give off feelings of love. It feels like Valentine's day is right around the corner when you look at it. An amazing drawing by @SilverTheNicheling: (I'm really sorry I didn't save yours) Angel looks very cool. His expression and body language are just so cold. It really is an amazing drawing! And a wonderful piskel from @AnimalRoundVeggie: I really do like the pixel style, and you did a wonderful job the details are flawless. The coloring and gradients are wonderful. You did a great job. A cute drawing by @ImpyNugget10: Your entire style is super cute! And in this drawing it looks like Qula is asking for a high five, I love it so much. An very cool drawing by @robsterdy: All of the drawings you've done look like they come straight out of the game. It's really cool! Most of the time nichelings are usually interpreted differently from the game. The patterns on Qula are wonderful. You did a great job at making a nicheling in the water! Here's some adorable traditional works from @Skysplash8: Caprisun is so cute! The curly mane and the stumpy body are absolutely adorable. He really does look like a cub in this! (the one on the right) Angel looks awesome here. The bushy antennae are so cute as well! Angel looks very mature. Here is the drawing done by @Skysplash8's cousin!: (the one on the left) The drawing looks so nice, and she's only 8 years old! She has a lot of potential. And Demon looks so cute and fun in this drawing! I'm going to post the nichelings in another comment, it's already pretty crowded as it is. If there was any drawings that I missed, I'm sorry.3 points

At least you aren't sacrificing them to the waves because you don't wanna have 30 nichelings.2 points

I adore your nichelings! I would happily watch a whole cartoon show about your nichelings, they have so much character. I think in general you have a really good image of what nichelings look like and can translate that well into art. I think the two drawings with the most room for growth would be the aquatic nicheling and the final drawing. With the water bodied nicheling, I find it's helpful to think about what those genes actually have to do, so for example, with the swimming tail, it's based on a beaver tail which is essentially designed as a building tool. As such it can't have fur that can get muddied up and is probably best represented with solid lines, rather than the slightly jagged lines that seems to imply fur. The same with the water body as well, while its open to interpretation what these features actually look like, I feel like things often read 'better' if they match what you'd expect based on real creatures (I always think of things like seals when it comes to the fur texture of water bodied nichelings). The line separating the back fin from the rest of the body as well, for me makes it read less like a fin and more like a strangely placed tail. Removing that line will give it more of an appearance of a part of the body that flows on from the body, rather than being a separate part With the final image, my issue is that the spotted nicheling looks like it's off balance, due to how the legs on the side furthest away from the viewer seem shorter than those at the front. Especially with the hind leg, it looks like the nicheling may have lost their back foot. If that isn't the look you're going for, making sure you draw out the shape of the paw, like you've done in many of your other drawings, can offset that perspective and make the creature look more balanced. If you are trying to show an injury, really emphasizing the difference between the two limbs can convey that to the viewer (I also find that watching videos of tripod animals can help me get an idea of how they move differently to animals with all four paws) I hope that helps!2 points

according to my mother, i watched Free Willy several times as a young(er) child. But I knew it as 'the movie with the boy'. I guess I didn't watch anything else with a boy...? Now, all i know about Free Willy is that it was about an orca or something.2 points

I love the shape of your nichelings! Especially Kutu, they look so cute! I think you've really nailed the shape and look of the body and something to work on could be the integration of the head with the body. Especially with the first pencil sketch, I just have no idea where their jaw is. If you sort of break down each piece of the anatomy, you can sketch that in and then just go over it again pressing a little harder to make a more solid outline, it helps the viewer distinguish each part of the nicheling from the pattern and details. I also find it can be really helpful to look at photos of creatures that have similar features as the nicheling I'm trying to draw, even if they themselves look nothing like the nicheling. So for big eared nichelings, I look at photos of fennec foxes to see where and how their ears join their head and for antlers or ram horns, I look at not just pictures of actual animals with antlers, but also how other people have drawn antlers and use that to form my own mental image of how I want those antlers to look. I hope that helps!2 points
