FInished the basic Bearyena behaviour, did some improvement to the controls and... added canibalism š® This feature has been requested many times now and I always thought it was too creepy to add, but it also happens in nature so I thought I'd give it a try. Nichelings now spawn "Nicheling meat" when they die. I'm thinking about adding a mechanic that the meat does not spawn, or maybe just less meat spawns, when the creature was very young, very old or died of hunger. Normal Nichelings can not pick up Nicheling meat. But I added a new head gene the that gives you +1 canibalism and gives you the ability to collect it. Spooky. Now I'm wondering what this head gene should be called/look like? I read about canibalistic animals a bit. Seems like rabbits, hamsters, polar bears, some apes, many insects and fish are canibals.9 points

Ooo, maybe like a Praying Mantis? I first thought I'd take a vulture or hyena because they are easily associated with scavenging, but they aren't too exemplary for canibalism I think...5 points

Sorry but I donāt see how that would fit into the story. Iām kinda tempted though, they would make cute babies. But I wanna steer clear of having kids for now, especially with Baba. Youāll see why later. (Also they have similar immunities, but if I really wanted to Iād do it anyways)2 points

Hey folks As it often is the case when I have a longer vacation, I started prototyping a small Niche-related game ^^ So far, all you can do selecting your little 'Nichelings' and tell them were to go. If you place them next to bushes, they automatically start collecting and continue to do when you leave them there (automating tasks is one the points I want to try out with this prototype). You can also approach an animal of the opposite sex and mate with it. And after setting the pregnant female in the nest and waiting for a but, a baby is born. No genetics yet š® I'll be tinkering some more with this and let you know1 point

This is a very simple challenge. All you need are, some people in the community to play with and the game. You goal is to see how long can you survive along with the other player(s). If you try to complete the story line together, I'll be impressed. You each play five days (In the game) and then give the save file to the other player. And just switch between all the players, making sure everyone gets their turn before starting from player one again. (You can increase the days a player is allowed to play from 5 to 15, then the max in a row the could play is 25) You can all decide beforehand how long you get to do these five days(In the game, not real life). As you need to take in account how busy some are outside of this forums. I personally would give them a week depending on how we decide to play. If a player doesn't post within time the other player(s) gave them and didn't give a reason why or say they are going to SKIP a turn. The other player(s) will automatically assume that the player SKIPPED, and continue on with the next turn. If a player played 15 days(25 days if doing the more days) in a row because another player hadn't responded while it is their turn and the allotted time they had passed, it is a automatic GAME OVER. You will have to restart with everyone. The only exception is if you get someone that isn't currently playing along to stand in for the other player once so that you can continue playing. Together you can decide if you're going to do Adam's story or Sandbox mode. If you picked Sandbox mode you're not allowed to edit anything but can pick the island you want to start at. If you all decide that normal mode is to easy you can decide to take out the healing plants and increase damage of the enemies. If you could post your journey in the playthrough section, it would be appreciated. If you and the other player(s) decide you don't want to post that's fine too, can you just say how long you all survived here? I'm curious to see the outcome. You can all decide to make this a playthrough with a story also. I would be interested to read it. I can just image if one player made a nicheling that's kind and friendly. Then the other player twist it into something else like the nicheling is secretly selfish and only like wanderers. (THIS IS ONLY OK IF THE OTHERS AGREE WITH YOU TWISTING AND CHANGING THE STORY) This will also make it harder if you all agree that certain traits stay in all of the players turns. For example: Nicheling A is royalty and refuse to pick up grass, Nicheling B is brave so will always jump into danger. Rules: Need more than one player Be nice to each other (But if the others give permission for you to try and make it harder for them by not gathering food and ditching some of their nichelings, it's fine) Each player gets five days(15 days) (in game) before handing the save file to the next player No editing genes No editing food/nest material No cheating Say when you want to SKIP a turn A player can only play a max of 15 days (25 days)(in game) in a row if another player SKIPS or isn't responding. If a player played their 15/25 days and the other player hasn't responded or just kept SKIPPING. It's GAME OVER. You can get a stand-in if you can't go for a turn or will be away and can't play. Others can join an ongoing game if the other player(s) agree.1 point

Added some basic behaviour for the Bearyena. If it's hungry, it looks for food. In this case meat on the ground that can be picked up. If it runs into a Nicheling or Rabbil it will try to turn them into meat too. It can carry some meat around with it and consume it when hungry. The rest of the time it roams around. Hi Pack! Since December 17th Niche is using a new folder for the save files on MacOSX. Unfortunately this caused problems with the Steam Cloud sync and it did not sync the files anymore. The Cloud Sync should now be fixed and work again. You might get a popup asking if you want to download the old saves or upload the new ones when you start the game. To recover old save files that were created before the 17th of December you have to copy them into the new save folder. Here is how you can do that: Open the Finder Click on Go in the top bar, hold the Option Button so you can see the Library Folder Then click on Library In Library/Application Support are two Niche folders: unity.Team Niche.Niche - a genetics survival game/Saves <- This folder is not used anymore and contains the save files before December 17th. com.strayfawnstudio.niche/Saves <- This is the new folder which contains the saves made after December 17th. Copy the old save file that you want to play from unity.Team Niche.Niche - a genetics survival game/Saves to com.strayfawnstudio.niche/Saves If there already is an new save for the same slot, it will be overwritten. So make sure to make a backup copy of a save before overwriting it, if you want to keep it. We are sorry for the problems that this change caused. Hopefully this guide helps you to recover your old saves. If you still have trouble write us an email to support@strayfawnstudio.com and we can help you. Cheers & Thanks Stray Fawn Studio1 point

I have a WIP Niche-like breeding simulator on Scratch So far it just has 2 creatures with randomizable colorations (no patterns yet) with a WIP kid. I took a long break because I forgot abut it but now I'm having a break to figure out the species itself before I get too far in that I can't change things1 point
