  3. When it comes to Niche, I am in a tricky position. The UNicheverse never got off the ground, and has now been cancelled, while Lost and Found is a generic Story Mode playthrough with only a thin layer of plot. This has brought me to a standstill. I am happy with the community I have integrated into, but I am struggling to make good stories. So I have decided to start anew. Lost and Found, as well as the Gazelle Tribe will still be there, but I am creating a new story for myself. One that I hope blows your mind. Before I start with the playthrough, however, I will have to establish the world the characters live in. I will describe not only how the world works, but also the basic biology of nichelings, how they function, and the settings I will be playing on. The World -The world is an innerconnected archipelago known as The Enclave, which spans the entirety of the planet. The islands of The Enclave are connected through the hexagonal rocks known as links. The links serve as a way for creatures to travel from one island to another, with the land next to the links being known as ports. Underneath The Enclave lies The Ocean, which can only be traversed by aquatic creatures. The Ocean houses animals such as crabbits, fish, and clams. -Each island of The Enclave is its own closed ecological system, with an invisible barrier blocking out all outside weather. These barriers are known as skyspheres, and can only be crossed using the links. The sections that contain the links do not have an atmosphere, which means that any sea-dwelling creature must stay underwater, and any land-dwelling creature must move fast or suffocate from the lack of oxygen. -Like nichelings, bearyenas are a sapient species. They are obligate carnivores that are approximately five feet long, and resemble a mix between a bear and a hyena. They most often have brown fur, but their coloration varies depending on the island that they were born on. Bearyenas are similar to nichelings, but are solitary by nature and awake during dawn and dusk. They hunt both small and large creatures, including nichelings, and generally do not get along with them. On the more dangerous islands of The Enclave, bearyenas can grow up to nine feet long and become bulkier, making them some of the most dangerous creatures nichelings have to deal with. In rare cases, however, a young bearyena may join a nicheling skulk and even have children with a fellow skulk member. Nichelings Nichelings are an extremely diverse family of mammals that inhabit The Enclave. They can resemble almost any kind of animal, and are notable for their rapid ability to mutate. Despite this, there are some traits that are universal to the nicheling family. All nichelings have colored gems on their chest that determine the amount of energy they have, though these gems can vary in color and shape depending on the nicheling’s biology. Nichelings also have the same sexual organs and lifespan, no matter how they look or act. All nichelings are diurnal, and quickly fall asleep during the night. They also share certain traits such as external ears, eyes, and two pairs of limbs. -Nichelings are a naturally social species, often congregating into groups known as skulks. A skulk can vary heavily nicheling to nicheling, but all skulks contain at least four members. Smaller skulks are usually composed of amalgams, while larger ones often have their own unique species. Not all nichelings live in a group, however. Some prefer to wander and live on their own. Wandering nichelings can range anywhere from singular amalgams to exiled skulk members, and some may choose to join a skulk of their own. -A nicheling’s pregnancy lasts for about eight weeks before giving birth to a single child, though in rare cases, twin births can occur as well. A nicheling starts out life as a helpless, underdeveloped creature. Their senses hardly work, they’re unable to maintain their body temperature, and even require external stimuli to defecate and urinate. These babies have not grown any of their gems yet. As a nicheling develops, however, they learn how to control their body and their senses. At eleven weeks old, a nicheling is considered a child, and now has one gem. While they are capable of speech and movement, their abilities have not fully developed and they are still vulnerable to smaller predators. After six weeks of childhood, a nicheling gains their second gem, and becomes a teen. A teenage nicheling has full control over their abilities and are mostly mature, but are still unable to breed. Six weeks after this period, a nicheling finally becomes an adult and gains their third gem. They can now breed in this form, and have a lifespan of five years. -Nichelings are extremely diverse creatures, and there are potentially thousands of different species living on The Enclave. That being said, there is a form of categorization when it comes to distinguishing one nicheling from another. The most common type of nicheling is known as an amalgam. Amalgams are nichelings that are a mix of various features and abilities. They are most often seen as wanderers, and have very mixed bloodlines that often result in odd appearances. Rogues are very similar to amalgams, but have a few key differences. Rogue nichelings are misshapen, usually having twisted snouts or deformed paws. They are most often the unfortunate results of bad breeding or exiled skulk members. This has made most rogues desperate for attention or company, meaning that they are mostly known for forming fleeting romances and bothering other nichelings. Some have malicious intentions, however, and can prove to be a threat to nearby wanderers or skulk members. The final type of nicheling is known as a pure. Pures are a distinct species of nicheling with defined physical and behavioral traits. They are mostly born in skulks, and are biologically less diverse than amalgams or rogues. This not only results in them being the rarest type of nicheling, but also means that their lifeblood depends on unity and teamwork, in contrast to the often-wandering amalgams. Here are my settings. One day in-universe equates to three weeks in-story. The reason why I chose to make the in-universe time different from the in-game time is to give the playthrough a more realistic feel. It not only allows more room between events, but it also allows me to develop the characters more. I have also decided the genders of the characters, but I am keeping it a secret for now. I will, however, divulge a bit of information about my new playthrough before I start. Fearless After being exiled from their home island, an amalgam couple finds themselves in unfamiliar territory. Nervous and unequipped to find food on their own, the pair must realize that living in fear is no way to survive, especially when their thieving ways makes nobody willing to trust them. In this story-based playthrough, two antagonistic nichelings must learn not only how to overcome their fears, but also to open their hearts.

  11. Salvador's Concern Horizon watched as Dragonfruit's bones fell to the ground. She was unsatisfied with this attack; sure, they had gotten lots of nichelings from it. A horrible group was off the island and her mountain was safe. But Plum and Magenta weren't exactly useful. They seemed to be closer to rogue children then actual children from nichelings on the mountain. Even the lingering feel of death in this area felt unnatural. Horizon had never been murderous or genocidal before. She had never wanted to kill. But when the first attack on the Frozens was about to begin, she felt a strange hunger for battle, a newfound thirst for violence. And, being the sole leader of the Empire at the moment, the destined one, the chosen one, picked to rule the mountain, she could basically do whatever. So a few causalities weren't a big deal. Including since she wasn't the one to kill them. She wasn't a bad nicheling! "I'm going to go back to the camp. Alecto and Fearless, stay here until Magenta is a teen. Then I want you to escort her down the mountain." Horizon stared back at the small child. "I was hoping she would be more useful. Or at least be like her father. Ah well.." Arctic seemed unfazed by the deaths, numbed by the past torment this group had caused her. Fearless flicked an ear dismissively of Horizon's order, but still abided. Alecto nodded. "Of course, Horizon." Horizon paused and looked back at Alecto for a moment. "Could you please refer to me as Your Majesty from now on, Alecto?" Alecto nodded again. "Yes, Your Majesty." Fearless looked at Alecto condescendingly. A small burst of power surged in Horizon, and she turned away, satisfied. A few days later, an old Salvador pulled Ghost aside. "Ghost, I'm going to die soon.. tomorrow, actually." Ghost looked up at the elderly male. He had learned a lot from the kind nicheling. It hurt; he was like a second father. "But Fire Ruby can make you immortal. Go to her, you don't need to die." Salvador sighed. "I would. But I feel like it's just wrong. I don't want to be Salvador, who has lived for five million years and has seen every child on the mountain since their births, y'know?" Ghost let out a sad laugh. "I get you. I think." Salvador's gaze turned serious. "Ghost, after I'm gone, keep an eye on Horizon for me." The gray nicheling blinked. "Why? She's inviting and quite nice." "I've.. seen her do things. She's changed. Ever since Fire Opal and Moose told her she's the next leader." His gaze darkened. "What happened?" "She's just.. different. Power changes people, y'know. She used to be sweet and innocent and kind. And now, she's murderous and battle-hungry and genocidal. She's tried to wipe out both the Frozens and Onion's group, and has gotten success in one. That's just going to fuel her on." Ghost looked at Salvador, concerned. Salvador continued. "I've seen her since she was born. I know she's changing. I know she's going to do something she's going to regret." Ghost stared at Salvador for a long moment of shock. "So just keep an eye on her for me, will you?" The sun set slowly as the pair stared out to sea, just thinking. The first year of the mountain had fallen; 365 days of suffering, and so many more to go. "Yes Salvador, I'll watch her for you." . "Although I can't promise I can save her."

  29. Almond let out a breath as a gentle breeze blew past her, calming her nerves as she tucked the cub closer to her chest with a smile. "I'm glad to have you, Dusty." She said quietly, nobody else around her and the baby. All she got in response was a small sneeze, and Dusty curling further into her and burying his face into her chest fur.

  39. Rise to Power Dragonfruit had her final child; a light pink twisted-snout female. She looked up at Pomegranate, but Horizon shoved her away, grabbing the young child. A dark glimmer was in her eyes, and her haunting smile was a bit horrifying. "Goodbye, Dragonfruit. And thank you for this child." Startled, Dragonfruit looked back over at Pomegranate; Alecto jumped on him, tearing out the back of his neck with ease. Dragonfruit screeched in shock and fear, lunging forwards towards Alecto. Arctic jumped forwards, holding back Dragonfruit, when suddenly large fangs tore into her scruff and she was overpowered, bleeding out quickly. The last Dragonfruit saw were the cold, dark eyes of Horizon. Elsewhere on the mountain, elderly Dodo looked down at a handsome orange-crimson male. "King, I saw it in your eyes when you were born. You carry your grandmother's strengths and leadership skills. That's why you were named King. Somewhere on the mountain, there is an Empire full of horrible selfish nichelings. You need to fix them. You need to make them strong, like you." King looked up at Dodo, straightening. "..I'll fix them, I promise you. I'll make them strong, vicious, and powerful." Dodo nodded at him. "I'll be watching you when you do." A new villain or hero, warlord or emperor.
