  1. Dear pack This is Philomena, the original designer of Niche. As you might remember I promised to talk about the future of Niche once our team is done launching the various console ports. That day has now come. Niche has been released on Switch, Xbox, PS4 and also made its way to the Epic Game Store. And, we even released our first mobile game ‘Niche - Breed and Evolve’, a new game in the Niche universe that focuses more on relaxed breeding. Making this game has been quite the ride. The first prototype was made back in 2013. We ran a Kickstarter with many stretch goals, launched the game on Steam Early Access, released free updates featuring various community requests after the 1.0 release and ported the game to all major consoles. Our team has now sat down to discuss the future of Niche. We have come to the decision that for us, the game is now officially finished. There will be no more content-updates and most likely no additional ports to other platforms. Niche was our first successful game and allowed us to become a game studio, but this also means we need to release new games at a steady pace in order to keep the studio alive. However, the decision to no longer develop free updates for Niche does not mean the end of the Niche universe! We have started working on new prototypes for a Niche successor and also have multiple side projects going on, such as the upcoming Adam plushie Kickstarter, a potential board game and a draft for a Niche novel. Please note that all these projects are very early and we have no idea yet whether they will really be made in the end. But rest assured that Niche is very dear to our studio and we love it just as much as you do! Please keep sending us all your cool ideas for future features, as they inspire us a lot for future projects. Some of the suggestions made it into ‘Niche - Breed and Evolve’ already. What are we working on now? Currently, we’re knee-deep in work on our next upcoming game The Wandering Village. We hope to release the Early Access version in Spring/Summer 2022. I am the project lead of this game (as it was with Niche) and since I love biology so much, the new game focuses on the topic of symbiosis. In the game, you build a village on the back of a giant creature that wanders around and form a relationship with it. I think you guys will enjoy it and we would greatly appreciate your support once again Honestly, it was hard for me to write this update. Niche has been so close to my heart all these years and it’s hard for me to let go and move on. But I think there are many exciting things ahead of us! Many many thanks again to everybody who enjoys Niche. It means the world to me. - Philomena & The Stray Fawn Team

  6. Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened. And hey, it's not even over! Sure, there won't be any more updates, but with the sandbox settings the game already has tons of replay value! The community has provided tons of challenges, roleplays and stories. Sure, it was exciting when stuff like new biomes, genes and animals were coming out, but at it's current state the game doesn't really lack anything. Thank you, Stray Fawn, for the countless hours of fun and teaching us about genetics. (Seriously, it was a huge help in school!) The community that's been built around the game is amazing as well. So many cool people who I'd have never met if it wasn't for Niche! I look forward to Wandering Village and whatever else the future has to offer (as well as what might come of that little prototype thingy)

  7. Day Six After going on a mission to prove her worth, (which ended in algae stuck between her teeth,) Marie had been sleeping curled up next to what was assumed to be her first cub. Brightmar let out the occasional mew, chewing on her own paw despite the male’s desperate attempts to get her to stop.

  8. Day Four “Hey Tuk Tuk.” The brown spotted nicheling turned to see Kati approaching, and gave a wave. He then went back to collecting a pile of berries, setting them in the hole he had dug out. Kati watched him for a moment before trying to pick some berries of his own, he wasn’t terrible at it, but definitely wasn’t the best either. “So you just do this all day? Collect berries? What fun is that?” Tuk Tuk nodded, then nudged a berry over to Kati’s paws. Kati stared at it before leaning down and squashing it in his beak. He looked back up at Tuk Tuk, nodding. “They’re delicious, yes, but is there any other profit? Perhaps you get the king’s attention, no? Maybe earn the recognition of a female?” The male quickly shook his head to the last sentence, but didn’t have the words to reply. He lifted his gaze to glance over at the king’s new cub, Heir. He then looked over at Kati again, motioning his head as if telling Kati to go over. “Aha, no. Cubs are nasty little rabbils that just exist to consume berries that we could be eating. I’d rather not interact with one, thanks.” Tuk Tuk shrugged, then jumped as lightening struck in the distance. He huffed before sitting back down to collect his berries. ______________ Eista stared down at her mate and son, while Marissa did her best to comfort her. “Hey, he’s not just going to forget about you. You two have three cubs together, and everyone respects you! Even if he does forget about you, you have plenty of suitors to take his place!” “Oh, shut your trap.” Eista hissed, glaring up at Marissa. “I don’t care how many suitors there are, he’s not going to forget about me. He can’t, I’m too perfect.”

  10. DAY 237 / CHAPTER 14 Shellpaw is promoted to a warrior, and is named Shellmaw. Mudflash approaches her. The usually fierce male has his ears flat on his head, and he averts his gaze. "I would like to ask to.. be your mate." Shellmaw smiles. "Of course, Mudflash." Owlstar dies of old age, giving up his last life. The clan is lost without him, especially Covehollow and his mother, Caverndawn. Covehollow takes his place as the new leader of Bogclan. Encouraged to share dreams with Starclan, Primewhisker gives him poppy seeds to sleep. He is visited in his dreams by cats he has both seen and never seen before. Owlstar steps forward in the dream, looking proudly at his son. "Covehollow. It's time to receive your nine lives of leadership. "I don't know how we're going to make it without you," says the ginger tom, standing in awe before his father and all the cats of Starclan. "And... in this place... I have no idea what to say." Owlstar simply smiles and begins the ritual. Covehollow is given his lives by Owlstar, Ridgesworn, Swiftdeer, Finspeckle, Yawnmuzzle, Freegrove, Mellowspring, Littlefly, and, finally, Bogstar himself. Bogstar speaks firmly to the new leader. "Your name is Covehollow no longer. I pronounce you Covestar, leader of Bogclan." His voice feels like a roar, and Covestar feels shaking in his paws. "Your deputy, Covestar, is to be one from the most unexpected of places. Choose wisely, and look in unlikely areas." "Unlikely areas..." Covestar thinks, but before he can asks what Bogstar means, the cats of Starclan are gone, and Covestar is alone in the leader's den. Who could Bogstar mean? Bogstar was scary, too. The only cat in the clan who matched Bogstar's fury was... Oh no. He knows who Starclan wants to be deputy. But why??? Covestar takes his place to call a clan meeting, and the cats of Bogclan gather around him. "After sharing dreams with Starclan, I am ready to pick my deputy. The new deputy of Bogclan will be..." The cats of Bogclan lean forward with interest. "Mudflash." The clan is silent for a heartbeat, surprised. But then, Swifttremor starts cheering his name, and other cats slowly join in. Shellmaw congratulates her mate, nuzzling him. All are reacting except Mudflash, who looks up in awe at Covestar. Of all the cats he could've chosen.... Shellmaw tries to have a kit with Mudflash, but the first kit dies. After a few moons, they try once more, and she announces to the clan once more that she is pregnant. The clan is joined by Bluffpaw, a light yellow male with impressive white tufts of fur on his head. He is taken in as an apprentice by Mudflash.

  11. DAY 225 / CHAPTER 13 Mudkit grows into Mudpaw, and is to be mentored by Skipbrush. Mudpaw grows hard to handle by Skipbrush, and she gets aggravated with her apprentice. "You're never going to be a warrior if you don't have respect for others," hisses Skipbrush. "You have to take this seriously." "You're just saying that because I'm not pure clan blood," growls Mudpaw, raising his hackles. "You don't know anything about me." "Who you are is determined by how you treat others," asserts Skipbrush. Ridgesworn dies of old age, and Caverndawn mourns the death of her father as the clan mourns their deputy. Owlstar declares his new deputy to be Covehollow. A bearyena attacks the clan one day, and despite the effort of the warriors, it's not going down. It's about to dig its claws into Owlstar when a fiery yowl is heard and claws dig into the side of the creature. It's Mudpaw. He takes the bearyena down before it can harm a warrior, and his dark eyes flash with Starclan's fury. Impressed, Owlstar promotes him to a warrior- Mudflash. The clan is joined by a rogue female named Shell, who is renamed to Shellpaw. She is placed under the instruction of Swifttremor, against Owlstar's instinct. She is a mischievous she-cat, but means well and is happy to take part in clan culture. Mudflash takes interest in Shellpaw; not only is she pretty, but she isn't a clan cat by birth fully either. He resonates with that.

  12. This! Even if we sometimes fought a little, well... maybe a lot, those fights and the people here have helped me grow as a person. 13. I want to thank you Stray Fawn Studio (SFS) for Niche, even if its over, it has a special place in my heart. Niche and its community were and still are a huge aspect of my life and have been a part of my life from when I was a kid to almost an adult now. It has marked my life in such a way that no other game has. Thanks to Niche and its community I have learned and grown up as a person. For me Niche was more than just a game, it was part of my life. I still remember how I found Niche as a YT video back in early 2018, probably during the time the current game texture was added. I was very interested and got the game some weeks after, I don't remember how I joined the forums but it was around May. The Niche forums and website since then became an important part of my life. With the Niche forums I managed to surpass my shyness, in school I was too shy to make friends and talk. But here I felt better and learned by trial and error how to be more sociable, thanks to all the friendly and welcoming people who made contests and roleplays about Niche. The Niche country wars was probably a turning point for me, I stopped being such a shy person and it is still one of my favorite late childhood memories. During my last day of high school I walked around the area that used to be my classroom at the time and the memories of the niche wars came to my mind at that instant. With Niche I learned more than just genetics, I learned to make friends and be part of a community. Even if there were some dark times and mistakes; they have thought me valuable life lessons that I hope have made me a better person. On Niche I have met friends that are currently my best friends in life, that is something I want to thanks you SFS. Aside from the great people that made and played the game, Niche itself has been awesome. I remember the funny moments with the glitches and the bears when the last update was being made. The game has served as an inspiration for many of my most important works, like a novel I plan to publish next year and some of my college application work. I am very thankful about this great game, it has changed my life so much and I really want to thank you Philo and the rest of the SFS team for the chance we had to see your creation take shape and grow over the years at the same time I grew as a person. Niche will always have a special place in my heart.

  14. Butterfly Challenge *This challenge is barely based off of real butterflies* Appearance Rules: They MUST always have peacock tails, if they aren’t born with peacock tails they are casted out of the swarm/kaleidoscope of “Butterflies” when they turn of age. They MUST have antennas. The fur & eye color can be any, your choice. MUST have patterns, if the children are born patternless they can’t breed with any of the other tribe members, besides possibly Wanderers, but can contribute in the tribe by collecting food/materials, protecting the tribe, watching over unattended newborn children, or being distractions from predators. Their gemstones must match the color of their eyes or are close to the color of their eyes. No webbed hind legs, derp snout, deformed paw, and webbed paws. But if you consider other physical attributes as “ugly” for this challenge then you can add those attributes to the list. Personality Rules/Information: “Butterflies” - These “Butterflies” are very arrogant and only appreciate other “Butterflies” that can match their own beauty, so not many of them get along with each other. They prioritize beauty the most, so they will try to mate with the most beautiful “butterfly” so that they can have an even more beautiful child just to boast about their creation to other “butterflies”. If their child doesn’t match up to their beauty standards that child usually gets abandoned by their mother as well as father and the mother and father usually don’t mate again because of their first failed attempt at a child, but some do mate again if there aren’t any other options for mates. In some rare cases, “butterfly” mothers feel genuine love for the possible child that doesn’t meet their beauty standards and stay with them throughout the child’s life, but that is a 2 out of six chance so you may roll a dice deciding weather or not the mother feels love for their child. 1 and 2: The mother loves and stays with the child to take care of it even though it doesn’t match up to it’s mother’s beauty standards. 3,4,5, and 6: The child doesn’t meet up to their mother’s beauty standards and the mother leaves the child. This is a possible option for you if you feel like the child born from your nicheling doesn’t match up to it’s beauty standards. Most of the “Butterflies” are usually lazing around or breeding, but some do get bored and work on jobs that the Non-patterned “Butterflies” do but that doesn’t last quite long since “butterflies” aren’t really used to doing work. A lot of the “butterflies” don’t breed with wanderers because of their strange non-butterfly looking appearance, but some do out of curiosity of what the child would look like. If a “butterfly” female ever gets Impregnated by a Rouge Male they usually never give birth to the baby out of fear of seeing how ugly the baby would like after they give birth to it, so be extra careful when Rouge Males appear because the female “butterflies” usually are prevented by fear to give birth to the baby. Non-patterned “Butterflies” - Non-patterned “Butterflies” are usually called “Standards” by the “Butterflies”. ”Standards” are usually children born from a “butterfly” and a Non-patterned Wanderer, most of the time the “butterfly” parent abandons the child and the wanderer parent takes care of the child. The “Standards” are usually the ones who provide for the tribe even though they aren’t really respected by the “butterflies”. ”Standards” are more competent and well-mannered than the “butterflies” though they can be very self-conscious of their looks because of how they were brought up to believe they were ugly. Most of the female “standards” have kind hearts and hate to see the children be abandoned by their “butterfly” parents because the child didn’t match to their beauty standards, so usually a female “standard” (Sometimes a male “standard”) who usually can’t have children, since they’re Non-patterned “Butterflies”, takes care of the abandoned child. The “butterfly” children who were raised by “standards” usually have a more nice personality and help out the “standards”. Most of the “standards” are servants to the “butterflies” and heed every order the “butterflies” give. If a Female “Standard” is Impregnated by a Rouge Male they can give birth to the child but the child must be exiled when it comes of age. Breeding/Mating Rules: Usually only “Butterflies” mate with each other to get beautiful children to boast about to other “butterflies”. “Standards” are not allowed to mate with anyone, they can love another “Standard” but they can’t have children with each other. “Standards” can possibly have children with Wanderers but that is only allowed when the High Council approves of it, unfortunately that decision is based on a dice roll. If you roll a 1, 2, 3, or 4: The “Standard” can have a child with the Wanderer. If you roll a 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, or 10: The “Standard” can’t have a child with the Wanderer and have to ask the council again 5 days later. If a “Standard” and “Butterfly” mate with each other, the child is allowed to stay if it meets the Beauty Standards of the Council and the parents are exiled but if the child doesn’t meet the Beauty Standards of the Council the parents and child will be exiled once the child becomes of age. When a “Butterfly” mates with a Wanderer this is usually called Risk Taking in the Tribe because they don’t know if the child would be without pattern or without peacock tail. If the child is born without a peacock tail they are exiled from the Tribe when they turn of age and if the child is born patternless they become “Standards” in the Tribe. Ranks: Council (Highest Rank): The Council consists of one Nicheling from every category in the Tribe, so the most beautiful “butterfly” becomes apart of the Council, then the highest in level (Such as collecting, or attack) “Standard” becomes apart of the Council, and finally the first Wanderer becomes part of the Council. ”Butterflies” (Second Highest Rank): The Nichelings with the most beauty. Wanderers (Neutral Rank): The Nichelings that are considered strange to the “Butterflies”. ”Standards” (Lowest Rank): The Nichelings who were born without patterns. Gameplay Rules: Can only build nests and aren’t allowed to use Permanent Nests, so turn off Permanent Nests in Sandbox Settings. And Dodomingos. “Standards” can only collect acorns/berries for food because the “Butterflies” are Herbivores. Must survive for at least 100-200 days. “Butterflies” usually flee when a predator comes and the “Standards” deal with the predator. You are allowed to invite Wanderers into the Tribe but you’re only allowed to invite a total of four Wanderers, so choose who you invite wisely. Can only travel islands after two generations. Gameplay Settings: Baby Day: 3 Child Days: 3 Teen Days: 5 Adult Days: 40 Pregnancy Days: 2 Nesting Material: 50 Food: 50 Turn Off: Dodomingos, and Permanent Nests How To Start Off: Make four “Butterflies” in the Sandbox Settings, they can be as perfect as you want as long as they follow the guidelines of the Appearance Rules. Make two “Standards” in the Sandbox Settings, they have to at least have 1-2 bad genes in their mutations. Add one wanderer in the Sandbox Settings, so just add another character without customizing it. Hopefully I didn’t miss any details, but if you have any questions just comment down below! I’ll try to answer them best I can! And sorry if this is a bit confusing, but I hope you enjoy the challenge!

  16. Leader Butterflystar - large dark red and beige tom with long fangs (Son of Duskstar and Cherrydust) Deputy Appledash - large red and beige tom with long fangs (Son of Duskstar and Cherrydust) Warriors Sunnyroot - yellow she-cat with smooth skin (Daughter of Duskstar and Cherrydust) Mumblejaw - large moss-colored tom Acornpelt - orange and black she-cat with smooth skin and violet eyes (Daughter of Sunnyroot and Birdwatcher) Kits Streamkit - brown and white deaf she-cat with smooth skin and violet eyes (Daughter of Sunnyroot and Birdwatcher) ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Butterflystar and his deputy go in search of new members. Sunnyroot and the other warriors stay behind to watch over Streamkit. Oddly, she does not seem to respond to their words. Sunnyroot notices Acornpelt grooming Mumblejaw, and becomes slightly suspicious. A few days later, Appledash walks into camp. "Butterflystar is no more," he states gruffly. "WHAT?!" Sunnyroot exclaims. Streamkit, now of apprenticeship age, glances at each cat bewilderingly. The Clan, since her birth, has discovered that she is deaf. It's hard to communicate with her, but they manage. "He...is no more." He glances down to his paws. The other warriors glance at his paws too to find that they are stained with blood. Acornpelt gasps. "YOU KILLED HIM!" Her normally mellow nature seems to shatter for a moment as rage breaks through. Appledash is silent. He refuses to exonerate himself, nor confess to guilt. The Clan decides to keep him prisoner and assume his guilt, unless proven otherwise. The Clan, now deficit of all leadership, decides to spend a moon or two in grieving for Butterflystar, as well as the loss of a friend in Appledash. Poor Streamkit is not yet an apprentice, despite being of age. * * * * * Streamkit finds herself in a place much like her home, yet far from it. It is plentiful with food as well as stars in the sky. Before her are two figures: Butterflystar, and an orange tom similar in appearance. "Hello." Streamkit is startled; she has never heard sound before. Yet, at the same time, it feels natural, and she knows what Butterflystar means, and even how to speak herself. "I'm Butterflystar, as you know. And this is my father, the founder of our Clan, Duskstar." He nodded to the orange tom, who smiled kindly. "Where am I?" Her words felt odd, yet she knew their meaning. "StarClan. This is where cats go when they die." "StarClan?" Her eyes widened. "Is my father here?" "In StarClan, yes, but here, no. We have a message for you." He nodded to Duskstar to continue. "Your—Our—Clan has no leader; no deputy; and, as it has always been, no medicine cat. But these times have come to an end. You, Streamkit—Streampaw— will be the first medicine cat of DuskClan. I will train you in your dreams." Streamkit—or Streampaw, as she was now—felt terrified. It was like she had a rabbil in her stomach, kicking around. But she held her feet firm, and accepted her tasks. "Our Clan needs a leader and a deputy, too. Acornpelt will be leader. Tell your Clan in the morning. They will accept her leadership. Mumblejaw is the obvious choice for deputy, so I trust Acornpelt will choose him without needing our guidance." Duskstar smiled. "I will see you soon, Streampaw." Butterflystar smiled too, and the figures and StarClan fade away to morning. * * * * * Streampaw, with the help of StarClan, is able to make known the new roles. Acornpelt is given her title of Acornstar that night in her dreams. Mumblejaw is announced deputy. The two share...odd looks, but nobody seems to notice. Mumblejaw and Sunnyroot watch over the prisoner, Appledash. Moons pass. Appledash, still with no verdict for himself, dies of old age. Streampaw becomes a full medicine cat, with the name of Streamglimmer. (The new name is told to Acornstar in a dream, since Streamglimmer cannot speak it herself.) A skeleton is found, but it reeks of disease, and the Clan presumes the nicheling had died of sickness. Acornstar and Mumblejaw announce that they will be having a kit. Sunnyroot is not surprised, as she had seen the looks and gestures they had been giving eachother. She herself is growing old, and is glad she will have the chance to see her grandchild(ren). Streamglimmer stays close to Acornstar's nest, in case of needed assistance. Acornstar gives birth to a beautiful baby girl, Crystalkit. This nicheling is sly. Their life wish is to become a hunter.

And also the only version of Sunder that isn't a Laserbeak recolor is a mass murderer, there's Lazor Beak who is an entirely different character from Laserbeak, there's a shattered glass universe for the Bumblebee movie... What do I do with all this information?

  20. (this is a detailed challenge. I might try it out sometime! It's kinda similair to other challenges on here where there is a high class of snobish nichelings ruling over a lower class of nichelings (or multiple lower classes). It's not much based on actual butterflies, but more the figurative concept of a butterfly (being pretty and elegant). And then how this would play out in a society in which not everyone was a butterfly.)

I don't think he did it for power...because he didn't make up a lie or even try to defend himself...hmmmm The clan goes on. Though I believe the only cat who had any children out of Duskstar's 3 was Sunnyroot which makes me sad tbh and is partly why the clan is still so small At least they got a med cat, yay!)

  33. a few notes: -in my Niche canon, Nichelings are a species that can put their pregnancy "on hold", essentially pausing it until they are ready to continue it. (I believe polar bears can do this, amongst other species.) This is still taxing on their body like a normal pregnancy, but they are able to give birth at will. (Sometimes the pregnancy can unwillingly pause itself, causing an unexpected birth, possibly in an odd place.) This of course includes the "cats" of DuskClan. -When the Clan is ready to move to a new island, StarClan guides their way. I imagine Duskstar guided his family to the Way-Stones, sad to see them leave their home, but happy to see his Clan making choices for the good of their Clan. -Any wandering nicheling found will be added to the family tree as an adopted child of the current leader (no matter the age), as leaders typically consider the Clan as their family (whether biological or not). Plus I just want to have everybody on the tree, lol. (There may be exceptions to this - for example, if a wanderer joins and becomes mates with another former-wanderer, I may just put them as a mate instead of adopted kid because then the tree will glitch out unnecessarily because "INCEST!!!" -Please feel free to give name suggestions! Some examples include: a prefix/set of prefixes or a suffix/set of suffixes for any cat in the Clan (or any cat that the word could apply to in a meaningful way); a prefix/set of prefixes or a suffix/set of suffixes for the kits of a particular mating pair; or a suffix/set of suffixes for a particular cat who has been born (and thus has a prefix) but has not yet received their warrior name. -You can also make suggestions for personality ideas for a cat, or ideas/thoughts on what could happen next, or perhaps a pair of cats you think could become a couple, or a cat that should be appointed deputy. All ideas are welcome!!!

  34. Leader Butterflystar - large dark red and beige tom with long fangs Deputy Appledash - large red and beige tom with long fangs Warriors Birdwatcher - large red and mossy-brown tom Sunnyroot - yellow she-cat with smooth skin Kits Acornkit - orange-and-black she-cat with smooth skin and violet eyes ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Sunnyroot becomes pregnant again. Sadly, Birdwatcher passes in the night, and will never get to see his second kit. The next day, Butterflystar returns from his mission with no luck, but in time to make Acornkit an apprentice. She is assigned to Appledash. Butterflystar also comes with a new idea: "Clan, I believe it is time we move on from this island, to new lands. Our Clan is too small to survive for much longer. We need to find a new home with more resources." "But this is our home!" Sunnyroot exclaimed. This is where she grew up...where she gave birth to Acornpaw...where her mate died. "We have plenty of time! Why can't we go another day?" She glanced down to her bulging stomach. It was glaringly apparent on on skinny frame. "I'm pregnant. I may be able to delay the birth, but it is still taxing on my body." Acornpaw nodded in agreement. "That's why we have to move quickly," Butterflystar replied. "If your kit is born here, it will be moons before we can move." "I agree with Butterflystar." Appledash stepped forward. "It's time we move on. Duskstar told us we had to make sure DuskClan never broke apart. We need a medicine cat, too." "Alright...." Sunnyroot sighed. "Let's get moving." The small Clan is a moon into their journey when they come upon a young warrior. "Hello." "Hello, young warrior. Might I ask your name?" "Mumblejaw." "And where are you from?" Mumblejaw nodded his head back towards the rest of the island. "Here." Butterflystar was exasperated by the tom's lack of useful words, but accepted it. "Are you part of a Clan, Mumblejaw?" "Not anymore." "....Why?" Mumblejaw shrugged. "Clan broke up." Butterflystar sighed. He wasn't going to get much out of him. "Well, would you like to join us?" "Sure." This nicheling is restrained. Their life wish is to explore the Unknown. Still on their journey to the Way-Stones, Acornpaw finishes her training. Butterflystar names her Acornpelt, as her pelt is, of course, like an acorn. The Clan soon finds their way to the Way-Stones and travels to their new home. Mumblejaw quickly finds an old nest for Sunnyroot. The she-cat is glad to finally rest and meet her second kit. With her family gathered around her, Sunnyroot gives birth to a beautiful she-kit she aptly names Streamkit, as the nest is directly beside a bubbling stream. This nicheling is enigmatic. They are deaf. Their life wish is to have lots of children.

  39. Amotikir goes to his sister to talk about things. 'Uh, Kikoi, can I ask you a question?' 'Sure.' 'What do we do now?' 'I don't know. Maybe find a wife, that's what.' Amotikir sat down for a while, then opened his mouth but didn't say anything, looking at something behind his sister. 'Amoti, are you all right? You look like you saw a bearyena.' Amotikir stayed mum, but pointed at something. 'What is it?' Kikoi looked behind her- to find a little teen in the grass! 'Hi little one!' 'H-hi... M-my name i-is Pigie...' 'Do you want to join us?' Kikoi smiled as much as an anteater head could, then looked at Amotikir. 'But... but she can't dig!'

  40. There was a small crowd in the nursery, the family all gathered by Poppywater's nest and fawning over the new litter. There were two kits yet again, a tom and a she-cat. Minnownight had assisted with the birth since Sunlight insisted his mother would be more comfortable with him there, even though he was silently panicking the whole time. Things turned out fine though. "She looks like you, mama!" Snapkit chirped, gazing in wonder at the little orange kit curled up against Poppywater's side. Laketalon hummed. "Yeah, I suppose she does." It felt...weird to be in the nursery with her own mother, but hopefully Snapkit would leave the nursery soon so she could return to her warrior duties. After some time, Minnownight, Brushtuft and Puddleheart all left, leaving the newly named Applekit and Sparkkit in peace.

  41. Brookmeadow was out on patrol, investigating the grassy fields beyond their territory. The island was still unexplored in some areas, so why not go and make them explored? Halfway in, something popped out in front of him, an he immediately got into a defensive position hissing. "Woah!" A startled voice said, and Brookmeadow paused. A pretty black and white she-cat stood in front of him, eyes wide in shock at his aggressiveness. His fur laid flat again, and he sighed. "Sorry, miss! I thought you were a predator!" The she-cat blinked, then gave him a small smile. "Oh, it's alright! But I'm no threat, promise! My name is Lisi."

  43. (Welcome to the forums!) There's no concrete plans yet. Right now the devs are working on a new game (as well as mobile Niche), and until recently they've been working on a number of ports (Switch, Xbox, Epic Store...). I think right now their plan is to get Wandering Village to full release, or at least early access, before they start working on Niche again, though they haven't decided whether they will make more updates yet. I hope so, though. You can always make a suggestion so that perhaps it'll have enough upvotes to be implemented if/when the time comes.
