  3. Inspired by: Lifespan Nicheling lifespan is known thanks to this graph. Nichelings- explaination Nichelings are (usually) mammalian, omnivorous creatures found on a set of recently discovered islands. They are the most diverse species known on planet Earth- some exhibit fangs or long, canine snouts, others have beaks, or different heads entireley, even gills. They come in various sizes and colours, with many different paw and tail types as well. Thanks to this they are often used for researching genetics, since the different genes of two nichelings can combine into virtually anything. Intrestingly enough, all Nichelings show signs of intelligence: many form complex groups with various ranks and sometimes even jobs, like hunters or babysitters, as well as deafeat predators and prey alike with complex strategies. However, they are comfirmed not to be sapient. Our nicheling This is Nicheling #001, or, as she is dubbed, Riley. She grew up being researched specifically for genetic experiments, but now, Riley will be realesed into the wild to document Nicheling behavior, especially of one alone. Island The island that Riley will live on is a large one, with medium temperature and mixed biomes which allow us to see which Riley will gravitate towards.

  4. Day 9, Weather sunny, no threats Our pair has been seen travelling together so far: a sign that they might be starting a pack and even be mates once Riley matures. They've found a non-toxic berry bush- this could serve as a great source of food. In this area there are also abandoned nests, as well as a creature called a dodomingo. However, since dodomingos are mostly fat that nichelings don't need much of, they aren't worth hunting. Day 17, Weather sunny, 2 threats (bluebird, rogue male) For the past few days we were unable to track the Nichelings as well as busy. However, it seems that Riley has matured! Not only that- but she has given birth to Emiliano's son! The child has been dubbed 'Altan', but is nicheling number 003. r A lone nicheling has also arrived. Her genes are incredibley unique! Her twisted snout is not a handicap, but can fend off predators, and she has a deadly toxin in her body with a purple colour warning predators about it. On top of all that, she has the incredible mutation of having a wing! Even though it is only a single wing, one of her descendants could be born with two. Luckily enough, this newcomer is friendly and joins the group! She is nicheling 004, but her affectionatley given name is Eliza. It seems a rogue male was hiding next to Eliza. Luckily, 004 runs away in time, and 002 chases it away. Day 20, Weather sunny, 2 threats (bluebird, rogue male) Today, we have begun to notice that Atlan is growing! He has his 1st gem, meaning he can now walk around a little bit. Today he's opened his eyes and leaves the nest. Additionally, Eliza is pregnant, hopefully with Emiliano's child and not the rogue male's. Day 21, Weather sunny, 3 threats (bluebird, rogue male, bearyena (red means it's very important) A predator called a bearyena bursts out from the grasses! It is very threatening to the tribe! Since they are the ones who seem to have the best genes for active fighting, 001 and 002 step up to fight it. The bearyena went to attack Eliza! It was poisoned, allowing Emiliano to finish it off. Nichelings often eat the carcasses of predators they defeated. The meat from the bearyena is a lot of food that might last a while.

  5. Day 5, Weather sunny, no threats Riley sits on top of a tree stump and apptemts to call for other members of her species. Day 8, Weather rainy, 1 threat (minor) For the past few days our nicheling has been living off roots around the stump, and calling for others often. Today it seems like her calls caught the attention of an older male nicheling. He is nicheling 002, also called 'Emiliano' Oh no! It seems like her calls also attracted a rogue male: a male nicheling with bad genetic mutations, often as a result of inbreeding. Intrestingly, rogue males will always apptemt to seek out females to breed with. They never have proper mating rituals. This is because no females will accept rogue males as mates. Emiliano strikes back angaist the rogue male, causing it to flee.

  6. Day 0, Weather sunny. No threats. Nicheling 001 is on the coastline. She'll most likeley either follow the borders of the island and apptemt to fish, or find berries and land prey deep in the grass. It seems as she's decided to crawl into the grass. This actually makes a lot of sense. Being alone, 001 will be unable to remove any leeches that happen to be in the water, as well as the fact food is more abundant there. Day 1, Weather sunny, no threats It seems Riley found a bush. Unfortunatley, she cannot pick from it as the berries are toxic. Day 3, Weather Rainy, no threats. Luckily she has managed to dig out some roots to eat before her supply of fat runs low.

  7. So I know I haven't posted my playthrough yet of the Black and White (created by @Lizardcake ) X Prehistoric Salt (created by @Modeer) Challenge and this post contains some spoilers... Oh well. So uh while playing this I had a relaly fun time just chilling in Niche and I got lost in playing it. Though I was technically doing 2 challenges there were no constant requirements to remember and no real story directives so it was nice and relaxing. (I do like complex challenges and story but sometimes its just nice to relax and let some story unfold without worrying about it making sense or building a plot). As a result of this I uh kinda forgot to do some aspects of the Black and White Challenge... Only grey babies were born, though if there had been a white or black bb I woulda prob forgot to seperate them out lol. The one thing I actually broke was the changing wanderers and rogue males to grey. And so to -cover up- *cough cough* give a story/challenge reason for this I began to think. And the Ketchup Challenge was born! Basically what happened was a creature in an ice block was red and I never changed their color to grey (there was also that one wanderer but she was old and never had children so we'll ignore that). And then they had a child with a red rogue male. You see where this is heading, right? So withour further ado, the rules: -Have rogue males enabled -Console all rogue males to red or variations of red (dark red, for instance). They must have at least one and preferrably 2 red color genes. -Rogue children may be red and are usually reffered to as 'ketchups'. The word ketchup may also refer to rogue males and any other red nichelings. -Rogue children are usually mistreated by their birth tribe. Sometimes killed or banished. Other times considered a second class to be trodden upon. On rare occasion they may be fully accepted like any other member. -Ketchups may leave their tribe to create tribes of only other ketchups. Or, rarely, tribes welcome to all nichelings. -There is a chance wanderers will be ketchups. You may let it be decided by the game (all nichelings with any red color genes be ketchups), or roll. For males 1/6 chance. For females, 2/6 chance. (Because all rogue males are ketchups). If they are a ketchup console their color to be red or a variation of red. They will then be treated like any other ketchup would be treated by the tribe. Though they may be treated slightly better than rogue children if they have favorable genes. This applies to nichelings in ice blocks too. -Only other ketchups can invite ketchups into the tribe. So you might want to keep a rogue child around to invite in useful wanderers. That's it! So you can add this to any color challenge, or any challenge you want to add -racism- *cough cough* hillarity too. I mean, you could have a whole tribe of rogue children called ketchups, that would be kinda funny. And you can add a twist like the ketchups taking over the world! I am officially adding this to my prehistoric salt black and white challenge playthrough, btw, if it wasn't clear already. LONG LIVE THE ROGUES LONG LIVE THE KETCHUPS

  19. Day 32, Weather rainy, Threats: 1 (bluebird) Sadly, Eliza has died from a combination of old age and catching Nuku's cold. Unprotected for bareley a minute, Nuku was snatched by a bird! Day 33, Weather sunny, 2 threats (Bluebird, bearyena) Luckily with death comes new life. Riley has given birth to a truly beuatiful daughter named Rosemary! In addition to that, Wako has grown into a teen. The third bearyena threatens the nichelings! They all swarm together to kill it. While she was fighting, a rogue male jumped Riley and mated with her! For the first time our tribe is seen working together! They suround the Bearyena completley, stopping it from moving to kill Rosemary or attack a nichling from a more strategic position! With this technique, it is killed.

  20. Day 25, Weather rainy, 2 threats (rogue male, bearyena) Eliza has given birth to nicheling 005- Wako. He's inherited her snout, pattern, and single wing. However another Bearyena has come to attack the tribe! The tribe fights angaist it, and Riley is mildly injured. Luckily the bearyena was taken down. Day 28, Weather sunny, 1 threat (bluebird) A baby nicheling away from his parents was found. He must've wandered off, but there is possibility that he's been abandoned or orphaned. He is sickly, and currently has a cold. If this spreads it could get worse. The tribe was offering him food when an adult female arrives! She unfortunatley isn't the baby's mother or any other adult relative. The abandoned child is Nuku (006) and the other female is Jara (007). Knowing his sickly scent, the others keep their distance from Nuku, but still watch over him. This is revalutionary! It seems nichelings can express empathy if they protect Nuku despite his sickness and the fact he is new.

  21. Welcome NSO! We are the Nicheling Research Foundation. Feel free to use our Nicheling Exchange at this address: We are currently running a research and observation programme in the Burning Savannah which is where most of our specimens come from. Soon we will be running a top secret experiment on that island so if we have nichelings we must get off that island first we may bring them here. Also if Nichelings on the exchange are not adopted after a certain amount of time we may bring them to you as well. We would like to take a look at your facililaties to be sure they will be appropriate for our nichelings. If that is alright with you let us know.

  45. Your eye has something called "immune privilege." This basically means that the outside of your eye prevents your immune system from knowing about the inside of your eye. Why? Because if it didn't, your immune system would destroy your eyes.
