  3. Welcome to a new msm story- "Through another World", featuring Hermit and Gwen as POV characters. Prologue The dry grass gently tickled Hermit’s claws. Finally, he’d arrived at Shugabush island. The young Strombonin looked around at the unusual landscape, tightly clutching his Strombone. The plants were tinted in unique autumn-esque colors, and oddly enough every part of the landscape was decorated in these weird human-world devices. They called them “shouters”. A familiar lavender Bowgart brushed against him. “We’re finally both 18, huh?” Hermit nodded at Harebell in excitement. “Yeah. I can’t believe it,” “There’s so much ahead of us!” Harebell half-shouted in excitement. “We could travel the world as much as we please,” “True. Come on though, Bell. No time to lose!” I’ll finally get to meet the Shugafam face-to face, he thought as the two made their way along the wooden path. I’ve wanted to do this for more than 10 years, huh. But mom and dad were always too scared of the Seam. I don’t even believe in the human world. Don’t think it would be a problem. “Alright, here’s the plan,” Hermit announced. “We go to the town and explore outside the castle. The song will happen when the sun sets, so in around 2 hours. Then we can meet the Shugafam, and that’s it for the day,” Harebell smiled and grabbed onto Hermit’s hand. “You’re a great planner,” As he walked, Hermit admired the unusual environment more and more, watching the orange critters scuttle and flap between the trees. Out of the corner of his eye, he noticed a flash of white. He stopped to turn and see what it was. But there was nothing there. “Hermit? What-” “No, no. It's nothing,” Hermit said, shaking his head and trotting back over to him. “I thought I saw something. It's probably a trick of the light,” “Oh, what was it?” “This weird white flash. Like I said, it's nothing?” “Sure it isn’t…” Harebell turned and spun pointlessly and dramatically, spreading all four of his fluffy arms. “Seam magic?” Hermit chuckled. “We both don’t believe in it,” he said. “Unless you’re as superstitious as my parents,” “Hah! Never! Your mother probably believes every single myth someone’s ever told her!” “Remember when she got me those crystals for my 13th birthday? Said it was because my Celestial was Loodvigg!” Both monsters chuckled happily, reminiscing on childhood memories. “That reminds me, I’m getting you something for today,” “Wow, what is it?” “It’s a surprise! Come on now, I can see the town!” Hermit tried to take off running in excitement, but something was pulling him back by the tail. He looked behind himself, suddenly horrified. There was another white light, this time definitely real. It was right above him, dragging him as he floated off the ground. “HAREBELL!” The Bowgart snapped right around, shocked, and immediately ran to drag Hermit away from whatever that was. “WHAT. THE. FURNOSS!” Harebell shouted as he desperately grappled at Hermit’s claws, already just out of reach. Oh no oh no oh no, he thought, feeling is tail and hind legs fall into the light. “NO!” Harebell yelled, jumping desperately only to slip on a patch of leaves. “HAREBELL!” Hermit shouted as he disappeared into the portal. The last thing he saw was a desperate pile of lavender fur, screaming and calling his name. A few minutes later, he opened his eyes, splayed out on the grass with the Strombone a few inches in front of his snout. The world around was something he’d only heard of and seen fake-looking sketches of. It couldn’t be… ————-—————- 15 years later, in a different place… “Bye,” Gwen said in a monotone voice at the Oaktopus leaving the store. “Have a wonderful day,” Day can’t be wonderful if it’s so lame and boring and exactly the same every time, she thought with a grimmance plastered across her beak. “Well, Gwendolyn, it’s 5:00 pm,” said an authorarive voice from behind her. She turned to see Frazil, the Deedge who managed the store. “That’s Gwen for you, fool,” she muttered angrily, saying the last word under her breath. “Well, bye,” Frazil’s face contorted into an expression of anger. “Gwendolyn, keep having the attitude of a grouchy teenager and you’ll be fired, understood?” Gwen simply muttered a few horrible curse words under her breath as she left the store, talons immediately sinking into the thick snow. Lucky me walking out into a BLIZZARD, she thought, shaking the snow out of her frizzy green feathers. Funny. Even after a few years back from the Collosingum, she was still re-adjusting. But then again, almost 7 years there really changed her life. It was GOOD there, though. They were the greatest champion there until that stupid T-Rox came. Too bad she got kicked out. In fact, if anyone on Cold Island knew the reason she was kicked out, they’d probably get thrown in jail. The image was still in her mind. The vines she was controlling, growing through the T-Rox’s skull, wrapping around his body as he collapsed to the ground, dead. They shuddered at the memory, but a high-pitched voice coming from just below. “Hey Gwen!” She looked down to see her sister, Pandora, a brightly-coloured Tweedle with abnormally long head and tail feathers that had to be tied back in braids. Well, techically this was her cousin. But adoptiveley, and in her heart, their sister. You see, as a Dandidoo, with a Tweedle and a Potbelly for parents, she couldn’t really have a Tweedle sister. But her aunt and uncle passed away, her parents adopted her cousin- Pandora. “Good evening,” they smiled happily. Though they were embarrassed to admit it, the sweet little Tweedle was a soft spot of hers. “How was work today?” she asked politely. “Same as always,” Gwen responded, looking up at the already ink-dark sky. “And you said that’s bad?” “Yeah, it sucks,” “Think positive!” Pandora exclaimed, flapping up a few meters into the air before landing again at Gwen’s other side. “It isn’t as bad is it could be. Love life and be grateful for what you have,” You tell me that so often, they thought. But I don’t think it ever really gets to me, not with a job that sucks like a black hole of boredom. “Come on,” she said, taking long strides along the street. “Let’s get back to the castle. We could talk and have fun there as much as we want, sis,” As she walked, Gwen noticed a T-Rox clomping along the streets in a fluffy winter coat. He stared right back at her with piercing, electric-blue eyes, looking directly forwards. Something about him looked familiar. No. Storm is dead. Besides, this one doesn’t look like he was ravaged by a pickaxe. But still, creepy. “Pandora?” She whispered. “What is it?” “That T-Rox. Doesn’t he look like…” “The one you… you know the one…” “Exactly like Storm. But without the scars,” “Stay calm, Gwen,” Pandora advised. “It’s probably just a coincidence,”

  17. also the deities' backstories I'm too lazy to describe their appearances but they are all animalistic creatures -Solari is the God of the Sun, and Lunari is the Goddess of the Moon, and they just spawned into existence when the universe was created. One day they learned that they're powerful and decided "hey why don't we make giant floating balls (ayo) in space for some reason" -Equinox is the Goddess of Balance and Tick is the God of Time. They are the children of Solari and Lunari. -Adonis is the God of Life and Earth/Animalia, and he spawned into the universe with Solari and Lunari, and is Solari's brother. He did a little experimenting with stuff and ended up creating Earth, and later Animalia. -Dolores is the Goddess of Death, and also spawned into the universe. Whenever Adonis ended up flooding Earth with too many animals, she would cause a mass extinction to keep the population under control. -Pacific is the God of the Ocean. She spawned into the universe around the time Adonis started experimenting with Earth, and aided him by adding something cool to his new creation...that thing being water! He also helped Adonis create the first lifeforms (which were sea-dwellers) before Adonis started creating land creatures. -Gale is the Deity (nonbinary :>) of the Skies/Wind, and is Pacific's younger sibling, appearing not too long after their brother. They helped create the atmosphere, clouds, winds, gases, that sorta thing. They also helped create flying creatures, like birds. -Krissi is the Goddess of Love. Instead of spawning or being the child of existing gods like most of the other deities, Krissi was once a cat on Earth. In ancient times, most lifeforms had children not because they loved each other, but to continue their family line, and most couples would split up after having kids. But Krissi was different- she actually felt love, and was recruited to the pantheon when she passed. -Echo is the God of Dreams, and was/is Krissi's mate. Similarly to Krissi, he also lived on Earth and became a God when he died. He was the first lifeform to experience dreams, particularly vivid ones. -Emotica is the Goddess of Emotions and Colors and is permanently a child. She spawned into existence at the beginning, but didn't actually control anything until Adonis created life. Krissi and Echo sort of adopted her when they became deities -Subzero is the Goddess of Ice while Pyrix is the God of Fire and they are the children of Adonis and Dolores. Cobrai doesn't exist anymore I deleted him from the pantheon lmao

  26. Mira looked down at the little bundle of orange fur in her nest. Calypso was a rich orange, and Mira felt like she would be an able runner when she grew up. She reminded Mira of her home, the savannah. Mira turned towards the sound of Lupo coming back from his hunt. ‘Lupo, have you seen Ifi at all today?’ She asked. Ifi wasn’t the leader anymore, and he was getting quite senile, but she still thought he might want to see the second mixed tribe child that wasn’t born out of necessity. Lupo shook his head. ‘I haven’t. Come to think of it, I haven’t seen Neoki or Randi either. Maybe those three are finally getting along. He hasn’t really treated them like his children since Neoki became leader.’ Lupo went over and bumped noses with Calypso, to which she gave a delighted squeak. Mira frowned. Ifi was ancient, but also unapologetic, she doubted he would want to right past wrongs now. He wasn’t the type to do that. He hated the fact that Neoki, who was physically weak, was now the leader. Mira doubted if the rest of the tribe actually cared, but Ifi seemed to find it important. Calypso gave another squeak, and Mira shook her head. Now wasn’t the time to think of such things. She smiled at her family. ‘Well if you do see him, call him over anyway.’ Mira smiled. Lupo nodded and smiled back at her. ~ Cane was shaking like a leaf. Every few seconds he considered dropping the flower he had in his mouth, and running, but somehow he managed to stay. Take deep breaths. He breathed in, and walked over to where Cheri was beside the stream. She was running her paw absentmindedly in the water. ‘Hello.’ Cane said. It’s not like he had anything better to say, but even that came out shaky. Well at least the flower muffled his voice slightly. Cheri yelped and jumped back, almost falling into the stream. ‘Don’t scare me like that! I almost fell in and drowned!’ She joked. She looked down at the flower in his mouth and a sly grin slid onto her face. ‘Who’s that for?’ She teased. ‘You.’ Cane felt like he was about to melt. ‘Can we be mates?’ Cheri’s eyes widened, but she grinned. ‘Sure.’ Cheri opened her mouth to say more, but a call from the tree stump interrupted her. It was Neoki, she was calling for a tribe meeting. Cane and Cheri swapped confused glances, but ran to the stump together. ~ (A little earlier) ‘Wait here.’ Neoki said to Randi with all the confidence she didn’t feel. They were outside where Ifi usually slept. Neoki didn’t particularly like the father she never talked to, but he was clever enough, and maybe he could make sense of the situation. She walked in, and found he was sleeping. At the sound of her pawsteps, he stirred but kept his eyes closed. ‘Did you finish the job Deat? Took you long enough’ Ifi muttered. Neoki froze. What job? If Ifi found out she wasn’t Deat, she might never find out. Besides, she was all too suspicious of everyone after Deat had just tried to kill her. She quietly cleared her throat and did her best to make her voice sound deep and raspy. ‘Yeah. All done’ She didn’t say much. Less chance of being discovered. Right now, she was thanking all the spirits above, and all the Gods she didn’t really believe existed that Ifi was slightly hard of hearing. If he could hear well, she would have been found out immediately. ‘Hmm. Good. Now Randi will be leader. Never really liked him, but I liked that weak brat even less. You can go now, I won’t try and kill you again.’ Ifi said. That last part must have been a joke. Surely. Neoki knew in her heart that it wasn’t. Suddenly all the pieces of the puzzle slid together. ‘Father?’ She felt herself say weakly. Ifi’s eyes snapped open, but all he saw was Neoki’s eyes narrowing, and her running off. He got up to go after her, but Randi stopped him, snarling. Neoki jumped up onto the tree stump, and called for a tribe meeting. Someone wanted her dead. And it wasn’t Deat. ~ (Now) Most of the tribe was pretty close, so they all gathered within the minute. Randi was back beside her, and Ifi was nearby as well. His eyes were full of malice. Neoki called for silence, taking a deep breath. ‘Someone has made an attempt on my life.’ Immediately everyone burst into confused and worried murmurs. Suspicious eyes looked to Randi, as he was still covered in blood. ‘But it wasn’t Randi.’ She felt herself blurt out. Unprofessional, she knew, but she wasn’t going to let anyone think Randi had tried to hurt her. Neoki explained everything. How Deat attacked her. How Randi protected her. The scars they found on Deat, made by a creature. The things Ifi said. And finally, what she thought this all meant. ‘I think Ifi hurt Deat so bad, he could have died. He threatened Deat to do a task for him, or else he would leave him there. If Deat agreed to the deal, Ifi would tell him where the healing plant was. Deat had to agree, as he was new and didn’t know where the healing plant was. The deal was that Deat would kill me, for Ifi.’ The crowd went silent. It made sense. Heads slowly turned towards Ifi. Ifi knew he was done for. He couldn’t win, but maybe he could take someone down with him. Make Neoki pay. ‘Tell me, what is the penalty for murder?’ Ifi said, his voice dripping with fake sweetness. ‘Death.’ Neoki answered without hesitation. It was a crude law, but just, as it discouraged anyone from trying to do such a horrible thing. The tribe law had not been changed since Talian’s time, it was that old. ‘Then me and Randi shall have to die.’ Ifi said in mock sorrow. ‘Randi?! He’s innocent!’ Neoki’s face twisted into a scowl at Ifi’s words. It looked wrong on her too-young face. ‘Did you forget he killed Deat?’ Ifi hissed, his voice full of venom. ‘That was different! He-’ Neoki started saying, but Randi interrupted her. ‘Yeah! That was different! I was only protecting my sister!’ Randi snarled. There was rage in his eyes. ‘You could have protected her by restraining him. But you didn’t. You killed him. You -as well as I- are guilty!’ Ifi spat. Neoki’s head was spinning. That was different! She was trying to collect her thoughts when someone behind her interrupted the argument. It was Kendyll. ‘They both are guilty of murder and attempted murder. Circumstances don’t matter. The tribe law is clear.’ Kendyll said. Neoki cursed him. He always stuck so rigidly to the rules. She was sure that if it was his family, he wouldn’t act like this. ‘Randi is still young! Death is too harsh!’ She said desperately. ‘Actions have consequences.’ Kendyll said in monotone. The tribe seemed to be split. Some murmured their agreement, while others loudly disagreed. Neoki couldn’t let the tribe split, but she couldn’t let her brother die either. Everything was too loud, the arguing, the disagreeing. A thought came to Neoki’s head. It was not what she would wish for, ever, but it was better than death. ‘Randi is too young for death.’ She repeated. Her voice was trembling. ‘So instead of death…he should permanently leave the tribe.’ The rest of the tribe agreed. Death was too harsh. But all Neoki could see was the betrayal gleaming in her brother’s eyes. ‘I should be exiled too. My crime is as serious as his.’ Ifi leapt at his chance. Neoki glared at him. ‘Fine!’ She snapped. ‘Just go!’ Ifi took his chance, and ran. Ifi was old, it would be a miracle if he survived two days outside of camp. She tried to turn to Randi. Tried to explain to him that this was all she could do. But Randi looked as if he made up his mind. ‘I protected you! And now you're exiling me?! Well I'll make you pay! I'll make you all pay!’ Randi screamed, as he turned away, tears in his eyes. Neoki could only watch as Randi disappeared into the unknown. The crowd dispersed behind her. Someone patted her shoulder. She didn’t realise Fess was calling her name until the third time she said it. But Neoki didn’t turn to Fess. She kept staring, and she felt as cold and empty as the wilderness on this deadly isle.
