  1. Birb of the day is back! This time I won't make up for missed days, it's been a few months. 19th April- Philippine dwarf kingfisher! Wins the title for looking fantastic and also silly Fun fact: there are multiple subspecies of this bird. While the southern subspecies has a more intense purple, the northern subspecies have blue spotting on their wings. (this makes me want to modify the design of my birb fursona, Lo-Fi, with inspiration from these guys (paticularly the second picture)

  4. I always used to love drawing abominations made by the rangen species generator. I revisited it, created the Gert. Fully generated result: The Gert Appearance A medium, familiar, hexapedal mammal with a camel head with a fleshy crest on its head, goat ears, no visible nose, and a shark-like jaw. It has a goose neck, and its shoulders are rounded. It has a rat torso with a thick waist. It has six medium-length, rhino legs and a fish tail. The Gert's whole body is covered in bristles, except its tail which is covered in hair. Most of its body is mahogany, while the rest of its body is cream. Gert Stats Average Height: 5 feet / 1.5 meters Average Lifespan: 116 years Maturity: 30 years Breeding age: 17 years No. of young: 7 every 34 years Population: Over-population Temperament: Aggressive Diet: Fish, Amphibians, and Animal skin Family life Gert males mate for life, but females are secretly promiscuous. Competition between males is often deadly; the winning male earns breeding rights; the loser often dies from his wounds. The Gert lives in massive family groups led by the eldest female, and young females normally leave their families and live in big groups when they are mature. General - They are exceptionally good at climbing trees. - They have extremely high levels of endurance. - Their call can be heard more than 49 miles / 78.9 kilometers away.

  5. I imagine, based on how thin and weak their back legs look, they move similarly to bunnies in that their front legs can move independently but they move their back legs together, and that the reason bearyenas can move faster than nichelings with all the bearyena genes is simply because their bodies are larger and more accustomed to the strong, heavy limbs and head. I also imagine they communicate in a combination of vocalisations and body language, and their language is still much more advanced than say, dogs and cats, but not nearly as complex as human speech. add yours :3

  7. Oh, I forgot to add— I feel weird drawing them like cats because well, they’re not cats. They’re leaner, they have longer legs and heads, etc. I still use cats and dogs as references though ^^;; also, do you personally see the gems as part of their anatomy, or just an in-game visual? I kind of see them as both, I spose. It’s hard to imagine them realistically, but it’s also hard to imagine a nicheling without them, so I tend to imagine that they’re kind of a similar material as horns, and that they grow from the chest gradually and turn different colours or are painted with plant juice or whatever.

  9. random confession: i don't really consider Andromeda one of my sonas anymore She's still a very important character to me as she was one of my first real OCs with a developed backstory and universe (i drew her for the first time when i was 7 or 8), but now she's more of a mascot My actual fursona is Equinox, the goddess of balance in Animalia/Humalia lore :>.

  11. Having played Niche as a teen when it was still in its early developmental stages and having since gone on to study biology, it's super special to me and I would love to see it expanded or a sequel! I'm a bit late to this post and stumbled across it by accident, but many of the following ideas have lived in my mind since forever and saw some of them had already been brought up. I saw some mention of seasons, I think it would be really nice to also include hibernation as a survival tactic for the winter months. I would love to see the underwater scene expanded more! I've been missing water based predators. There were already some suggestions on underwater "islands" or biomes and thought this could even go as far as making a deep sea location with limited/no light and a bunch of traits to adapt to this (bioluminescence, angler fish light to attract prey, tentacles for detection instead of vision, water filtering for food like baleen whales, mollusc body to deal with the pressure etc.). One thing I was missing a lot in water Nichelings was electro receptors. Many underwater species make use of these (including platypus) and for that to allow underwater detection of fish outside of sight range or to detect the digging spots for platypus would be great. Or even an extra sense being added to water body, as the lateral line in fish can detect water movement and this would allow for muddy water to exist with limited sight visibility. Since the addition of birds and them being able to sit in trees, I thought arboreal traits would have gone real well as an alternative to getting your Nichelings take to the trees. The bugs and seeds of trees can now only be exploited by birds and having a prehensile tail or climbing paw/hindlegs would be a great addition to expanding this mechanic. On the opposite end I would also love to see a (semi) fossorial system included, it's quite a common tactic in animals and to be able to make burrows to escape predators would be great! I believe there was already some mention of dens. I could imagine it as premade burrowing spots that your Nicheling needs digging trait to make a burrow, or even fallen logs or tree hollows. What would be really cool but maybe more difficult to implement would be to allow Nichelings to create burrows and expand them to any tile and make several entrances (could be restricted to meadow or sand tiles). I couldn't have agreed more with the posts about traits evolving on a scale, this would be super exciting! It could even go as far as to have intermediate stages between wing development from paws or even hip morphology changes to allow for an upright stance, to mimic the main evolutionary pathways that we see in paleontological/evolutionary studies. Ideally the intermediate stages would already have some advantage, as otherwise they wouldn't stay in the population for long enough to progress. The 50% mutation rate that the player can implement for two genes in the current Niche makes it a bit too easy in my opinion. Ideally this could be adjustable by the player depending on how easy or difficult they want to make it to themselves. Useful mutations are quite rare in nature and most of the mutations occurring tend to be detrimental. Although theoretically one mutation in one gene can do the trick, often an accumulation of a bunch of mutations is necessary to really create a phenotypic change. I'm not sure how this could be implemented in underlying game mechanics, but to see a more realistic approach to the genes and mutating traits would be really cool. Although the idea of having a photosynthesising Nicheling also gets me quite excited, but it's a bit further from realistic systems. Last point I'll bring up for now, would be to implement herbivores, omnivores and carnivores (etc.), Nichelings being able or unable to digest certain foods would be really interesting. As example omnivores could be able to eat everything but get less nutrients out of both, whilst the more specialised diets would allow maximum nutrient uptake. Overall I would generally like to see a lot more variety and widespread traits, genes and survival tactics, so that there is more to discover and explore. There are is so much inspiration to take from all the different species out there! But of course this would make the game a lot bigger, which also comes with a developmental cost. I think even the current Niche still has a lot of space for new cool traits and interactable creatures to be added. I still had a few more trait ideas, but this has become lengthy enough already

  16. Some ref sheets of the things Crystalkins, the insect creatures that used to be foxes They often have thick fur. One of the main prey sources. They live underground. They can be intelligent (ranging from dogs to parrots) or just dumb fish or seals Sentinel things (I will redesign them because they’re literally just a redesign of the Murder Drones ones) Rosekins (Slightly artificial creatures with short life expectancies)

  18. Oh and I added (pretty much) sentinels (Murder Drones). Since half the world is in darkness most the time and the Ancients (placeholder) were at war (kind of) they released sentinels into the wild to kill any living creature that wasn’t effected by ✨radiation✨ ‘Oh look another whole mass of lore to explain. Radiation is pretty much fear. The Ancients died out because of the Radiation. It was poisonous to them, and they accidentally enhanced it. Many animals started dying out from either the radiation, sentinels, or the infection (get to that later). The Ancients created the Mindpool to try and find a way to bend reality to make them extremely lucky and immortal, the luck making them unkillable. But they already died out before they could find a way to make it work for them. So there was only a few species left. Sheathkins, Crystalkins, Rosekins, some unnamed goo mitosis chicken, and the infected. Infection! The infection was an artificial thing implanted into Sheathkins (artificial creatures made to please the other Ancient kingdoms) and was made as a bioweapon to kill all the enemy, or so they thought. But that didn’t go well as the infection started to infect the Ancients and animals, too. So a few bombs and kill codes later, that apocalypse was avoided. The infection only really took over Sheathkins and primarily spread through them. In any other creature it kind of just killed them. Apart from Rosekins, those kind of took over them and there was a chance they’d infect others but not really. So after that was eradicated, there was nothing really left for the Sheathkins to eat, since they weren’t exactly sentient yet and they were losing whatever intelligence they had left, so they kind of just had to cannibalise each other. So that went on for ages. I’m too tired to explain anymore lore Goonight.

  19. Snakefang certainly seems like a name not suitable for a cat as cute and fluffy as him, but his fighting skills make up for it. Snakefang was raised by rogues who were banished from clans and worshiped the Dark Forest. Snakefang knew how to fight from a very young age just to keep himself alive. The drought hit his group hard and they all left him behind to find greener pastures (literally), seeing him as more of a burden than anything. Snakefang didn’t let this dissumade him, however, it just made him want to change his ways and become a cat better than his parents.

  20. Oasispaw and Snakefang spent a few moons together in their empty clan, growing closer to each other each day. They fell in love and became mates quickly, possibly too quickly, but they couldn’t help how they felt about each other. Only time will tell what will happen with their romance. After this happened Oasispaw decided that it was time she had a warrior name. Snakefang had been very supportive and encouraged her to make herself a full warrior because she deserved it. Oasispaw became Oasisrock, named after her colour and her willpower.

Guys German rock + metal music is consuming me help 😭😭😭 I've gotten into Kraftklub recently and I've listened to every single one of their albums, and just today I've started really liking a band called Eisbrecher (specifically the album with the goofy yellow cover), also I've liked Rammstein since I was little. I don't speak German. I don't study German. I have never had anything to do with Germany ever except that one time we were driving through. But their music is actually so fire so yeah 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

  24. I decided to make my own version of what prey is dangerous to cats because I am unsatisfied with the original one. This list includes non-harmful venomous prey because I feel like making it more of a challenge. Each animal has a different chance of hurting a cat depending on their skill and how dangerous the animal is. Poisonous and venomous animals can be identified by the medicine cat and prepared to be an antivenin or antidote. There is a 50% chance of envenomation for each lost hunt against a venomous animal, what happens after that is dependent on the risk level of each animal. I’m deleting all of the animals on this list that I don’t have the packs for. Low risk: 1-80: the cat is fine 81-95: the cat has mild symptoms 95-98: the cat has severe symptoms 99-100: the cat will die if not treated Medium risk: 1-50: the cat is fine 51-75: the cat has mild symptoms 76-90: the cat has severe symptoms 90-100: the cat will die if not treated High risk: 1-20: the cat is fine 21-40: the cat has mild symptoms 41-70: the cat has severe symptoms 71-100: the cat will die if not treated Venomous: Lizards: Pygmy Komodo Dragon (high risk) Snakes: Garter Snake (low risk) San Francisco Garter Snake (low risk) Malayan Krait Snake (high risk) Rodents: Shrew (low risk) Aquatic Animals: Jellyfish (high risk) Deathfish (high risk) Beetles: Spider (medium risk) Non-venomous dangerous animals: Lizards: Iguana (low risk) Rodents: Rat (low risk) Womrat (low risk) Pygmy Hedgehog (low risk) Birds: Parakeet (medium risk) Large birds: Cockatoo (medium risk) African Grey Parrot (medium risk) Blue-Gold Macaw (medium risk) Catalina Macaw (medium risk) Yellow-Naped Amazon (medium risk) Falcon (medium risk) Spotted Sixam (low risk to adults, high risk to kits) Aquatic Animals: Piranha (medium risk) Shark (high risk) Vampire Fish (medium risk) Lobster (medium risk) Robot Fish (high risk) Beetles: Termite (low risk) Poisonous: Aquatic Animals: Blowfish (high risk) Robot Fish (high risk) Sewer trilobite (medium risk)

  33. I said this once already in the niche discord server, but visual differences on the horn genes as Nichelings grow! Not including when Nichelings grow old but not starting out with full grown horns (I'm looking at you megaloceros horns.) Concept drawing. Plus, if put this way, babies on blind gene mode can be more interesting. Did they get horns or did they not? Gotta wait until they're a child to find out! And until a teen for what kind of horns specifically! Just noticed that Hehak mentioned something similar, last post on the second page

  34. Yeah so turns out Niche can be modded after all, we just needed a universal mod loader that works for all unity games. Here's what you must do to get Niche ready for modding and also the link to the MelonLoader Wiki REQUIREMENTS .Net Framework 4.8 Runtime (or higher) Microsoft Visual Studio You can either install manually or automatically, I'll write about the latter since that's the one i know how to do Download MelonLoader.Installer.exe Run the installer select the niche app file found in This PC/C:/Programs/Steam/Steamapps/Common/Niche/Windows/either 32bit or 64bit depending on which version you have installed Select the 0.5.7 version (higher versions dont work) (Should look like this) Install! Launch Niche to check if MelonLoader has installed correctly If it has, a console should appear at startup If the console doesn't appear, try to install MelonLoader in the other Bit folder There are currently no mods made specifically for Niche, but there are some universal mods you can add instead! Like the Unity Explorer which lets you delete or add things :DD Get the MonoMelonLoader versions and copy-paste the .dll files into the mod folder that should have appeared in whichever 'bit folder you installed the loader in. Check if your antivirus has taken the .dll files in quarantine and release them if so That should be all, tell me if you have problems!
