"O-O, K" said the spirit. "You do have the tail for swimming. That's rather important because-well,  uh, I don't know why." But it really does feel important...

Fangs got back from his little scouting trip. He now knew which way the swamp was. He'd made sure to stay within an earshot of the two younger spirits and was pleasantly surprised have heard what sounded like a conversation. He had been too far to make out individual words, but it didn't sound too one-sided. It had gotten quiet now, which made him a little worried. Having newcomers dashing back and forth in the thick mist meant it would be only a matter of time before he'd run into another lost spirit and one was already a lot to handle.

He finally got close enough to recognize the shape and breathed out a sigh of relief at the knowledge that he at least wouldn't have to wander around the misty hills in search of the confused spiky spirit.

"Hi. I heard the two of you having a conversation. Did you see which way your friend went?"

'Well, hello then guiding spirit. And I think confused is an understatement!' he laughed. In truth, laughing was the last thing he felt like doing, but he had to keep his spirits up! Somehow.

'If you're a guiding spirit then... Do you know where we are? Because I'd like to get back home.' He asked hopefully. 'And figure out what home is like. If I even had one...' He mumbled that last part under his breath. He sat down, glad to give his paw a rest. For a crazy moment, he wondered if everyone here had a limp like that, but guiding seemed to be walking fine, so it must be just him.

'And who are you looking for? Maybe I can help!' he smiled, before he realized guiding probably couldn't see the smile.

-A friend. He has long paws and fangs like those of a... a... I'm sure it was something toxic. Or poisonous... Venomous! What ever... The point is he has big fangs. I suppose it would be best if you came with me, might delay the inevitable. And don't worry about getting home, there's no way out of this place. Better to just get used to it now.

She started examining the reeds and mud through the thick mist, hoping to locate the direction Fangs had gone. The darkness made the task difficult, but she eventually found a spot where the reeds had been trampled recently enough that they hadn't had a chance to return to their usual state yet.

The fading of a once familiar consept had happened to her for more times than she could count. In fact, she was sure that there were more things she'd forgotten than remembered. She just didn't notice it most of the time. As it got harder to imagine colors and places, the things related to those things faded away with nothing to remind her of them. It was a side effect of having been here for so long. Back when she'd been a new arrival she'd at least had the eyes of her companions to remind her of the colors this place lacked. Now she couldn't even remember the name they used called her.

The spirit blinked. It seemed the lights were trying to communicate something. And...looking at them closely now a type of shadow appeared to be attached to them.

A shadow? A shadow with light? That doesn't seem right. Of course this whole place is so...dark. The spirit suddenly shivered and looked around,  "So dark." They paused, their thoughts had come out of them through sound. Communication. Talk. And that's what the shadow is doing.

    (Sorry for taking forever again)

"Yes, yes, it's dark here. But you'll get used to it. Come on now, follow me, I can help you, but not if we stay here" he responded, trying to keep the spirit's attention. He'd been on the other side of this situation, but the memories of it were too foggy to be of any use now. Words had helped him then, even if he'd forgotten what they meant. And this spirit was speaking - sort of. That had to be a good sign, right?

(GUYS IM SORRY I WAS ASLEEP)

    @Liljatonttu

The spirit had finally reached the trees. He had heard someone talking on the way here, but decided to avoid them. He heard shrieking, and couldn't figure out if it was from happiness or fear. He grumbled to himself. His paw hurt from all that walking.

He suddenly stopped short. The silhouette of someone stood there, looking around. He could just turn around and go back the way he had came... But no. Maybe this person would be friendly?

'Hello?' he called out. He limped forward, a nervous smile on his face. 'Who are you?'

Guiding spun around, startled by the unfamiliar voice.

-Oh, hello. Sorry, I was looking for someone and to be honest I wasn't expecting to find anyone else. They used to call me "the guiding spirit".

She took a deep breath to let out her surprise and frustration and then continued:

-I... suppose you must be very confused

(I follow a lot of topics and have never gotten a notification that someone reacted on someone else's posts other than mine. And I'm sure people leave laughing reactions on little to no context. Try checking your notification settings)

But their paw made no contact with the lights, and soon they shifted,  turning away from the spirit. Hey!  Come back!

They let out an annoyed yelp and walked after the lights. What are these lights? What is this...communication going on in my head?

"Do you... remember anything?" they repeated.

(Sorry for taking so long, this thread is becoming quite overwhelming and I also wanted to finish my new pfp before going to bed. I'll be logging off soon for tonight)

"Oh, not really" he responded to what he at first thought was a question directed at him.

    Wait. I said that.

He took a closer look at the silhouette, noting the dim eyes and suddenly wishing he'd woken up Guiding to come with him. She'd know what to do in this situation

"Uh... you should come with me. To the swamp." he tried to gesture with his tail to get his point accross and turned to where he was pretty sure he'd come from

( @Liljatonttu, please stop liking everything, its kina annoying when people are following a topic, no offence)

(Oh sorry, it's just my way of interacting with people. I like giving people I talk with rep points and showing I'm actually reading their posts +it helps me keep track with how fast the thread is moving. Do you get notifications for everyone's posts I like on this thread or just yours?)

"Well....Yeah." She responded. "Also, is there water in this place? I can't live without water. Water is basically my life!"

"The closest source I know of is at the swamp, but there is a small stream over that way" he pointed his tail at an undefined direction somewhere on his left.

"And don't worry about the name thing. We'll fix you up with a nickname soon enough!"

  9. Guiding awoke to the same dark landscape she'd known for eternity. Sleep was little more than a way to pass time here, with dreams usually being absent, save from the times following a memory flash, and she hadn't had one since Fangs returned. That was a long time ago. But she still slept to distract herself from her reality.

She slowly got up, stretched, yawned and looked around. She was forgetting something, a feeling not uncommon here.

What could it be? Was there a trail she was supposed to patrol for newcomers (not that there usually were any)? Had someone gone missing and needed to be looked for?

Then it hit her. Fangs was supposed to be sleeping next to her.

The spirit ran and ran, until she noticed a silhouette with short protruding fangs. She then noticed they were with another nicheling. "I wonder who that is. Maybe they're friends?"  She thought to herself as she slowly approached.

As he was trying to make sense of the strange nicheling in front of him he heard pawsteps in the dry grass behind him. He turned around to greet the new arrival while making sure to keep one ear directed to the spirit who he'd followed here

The lights were now closer, focusing on them, the spirit started walking toward them. They were so close now. They reached out their paw and tried to touch them.

His instincts told him to move away, but knowing there was no way to really hurt someone here, he forced himself to stay put. Some spirits preferred non-verbal communication, perhaps this was a form of it?
