  1. 2. Runner leg

Ok, this one was a bit hard since drawing legs and paws is very internalized for me and I can usually do it without sketching guidelines or thinking about it much. That's why it's not fully step by step. I hope this is still helpful to at least someone. My interpretation is a mix of cat and dog

Ok, so here is an extremely simplified bone structure

    kuva.png.478a9d84a11e3bc2c2a3932d9a18f413.png

Here's how the leg connects to the rest of the body

    kuva.png.24eb19656a02a526d7be3c724ef47a2d.png

Mimicking the bone structure draw circles for the shoulder, paw and the elbow (missing from the picture, here it's just the angle between two lines). Then connect the circles

    kuva.png.03e96cf85653acfe76b7b094e364adf3.png

Beef up the leg a bit

    kuva.png.3324411c38f8efc9f5c34c6b00a12981.png

Don't draw the lineart where the leg is fully connected to the body.

(Do draw the shoulder though! I left it out here because I didn't draw the rest of the body)

The pink lines show which direction the fur flows

(Keep in mind that longer fur is heavier and flows mostly downwards)

When lifted up, the joints bend like this

Here are the basic shapes for a front view

    Paw time! (Thumb optional)

  2. 1. Short snout

Let's start with the most basic (and useless) head gene!

Start by drawing the usual circle and cross

    kuva.png.25cebb4cee96874944290cf74a3d45dd.pngkuva.png.86cf9ebabc8068f26330b2e429589dc0.png

The horizontal line dictates the height of the eyes, while the vertical one shows where the nicheling is looking

    kuva.png.170dc741c976418b27c9c99ffb3907cb.pngkuva.png.77c237c9f99e1f90865e4ea37f382a71.png

Draw a smaller circle under the horizontal line. This will be the muzzle

    kuva.png.8c6be3e6957681953e5866c05c7afadf.pngkuva.png.e2d5a0b1a6075f2db2081020f6722bb6.png

If you aren't doing a front view, connect the two circles

    kuva.png.4fb2814575ba4eda0ea099a557dd00a6.png

Draw the eyes, nose and mouth. You should be able to fit a third eye between the eyes.

If you prefer drawing the nose first, the eyes should line up with its sides.

    kuva.png.ba8aa3ff808b7b13ee015f9a8a0cff72.pngkuva.png.eef0ded90afb04429824e3a23c1b6690.png

I won't go into too much detail about the ears since there are different types of them, but they should be placed somewhat like this.

(The pink lines are optional to the sketch)

    kuva.png.05d8ebb8b3b5db3217ade5c09aaa68e0.pngkuva.png.f5560998a89ab2e5f4ecb2eae52400ab.png

When doing the lineart, add some fur. Make sure that everything lines up. Don't make the neck too thin (unless that's your style)

Keep these lines in mind when shading

  3. So there's a small trend of cat tutorials going around and I thought I'd hop on the bandwagon but change it up a bit and do something I haven't seen done before. (I did find a tutorial on steam after googling it)

So I'm going to teach you the basics of drawing nichelings. Keep in mind that this is only my way of doing things and a lot of people prefer to stylize the genes in their unique way. However I hope that this might help someone who's still learning or struggling with a specific gene. I may also approach some of the genes with a style that's closer to the actual game models.

So what genes or gene combos would you like to see tutorials for?

Well I guess he stays with the pups most the time lol

Yep. I've left him alone with them multiple times and the only thing that went wrong was that one time when the den flooded and stranger wolves came. RIP Kaivo and Mustikka

Naakka is honestly the best mate I've ever had in WQ and I don't know what I'll do if he dies

    passerine!

so like i said, passerine is a fanfiction and it uses characters from the dream smp. the main characters are phil, tommy, techno, and wilbur. the basic plot follows wilbur as he tries to rule over his kingdom, and tommy and techno as they try to go along for the ride. i'm not gonna spoil it because its a good fic and you should totally read it, even if you arent into the dream smp because it totally works as a standalone thing as well. also im only on chapter 6 so idek the full story haha

Aaaa yes the person who wrote Passerine should be a published author!

  6. I don't know much about humanoid anatomy, so can't help you there. (You seem to have a pretty good grasp on it anyways)

I guess you could add a second layer of softer shading to match the mood of the scene, as well as a highlights layer (set to something like "soft light", "screen" or "addition"). Lastly you could play around with reflected light

  7. Does color choise come naturally to you or have you spent the last 52 years studying color theory? The last 2 paintings have such an interesting feel. The way you color and shade works really well with your style

Sorry I couldn't give criticism. I don't know anything about drawing humans

the main problem I have with shading is actually I can't shade in pretty much any way other than the airbrush...

Does your art program have layer modes? If so, try multiply with different colors. It's a ton of fun and adds more depth to your art

  9. First of all, I have to say that these all look adorable!

Yes I do realize her belly is too thin but I tried a billion times and couldn't get it right

I think the problem with that one is not so much the belly, but her back, which is too low. As much as they try to hide it, cat's do in fact have bones. (Those little liars!) When you draw bodies, try to think of the spine and ribcage

Most tutorials recommend the three circle method

I also once saw a tutorial recommend sketching a cat body as a bean

Here are a few other good tutorials I found:

This one's a long read, but it's 100% worth it! I haven't finished it yet, but I've learned a ton of new things from it https://design.tutsplus.com/articles/how-to-draw-animals-cats-and-their-anatomy--vector-17417

Come over! There are currently 8 rat hands in this household, 16 if you count the back legs too
