Well, a grain of sand isn't that bothersome when you live in dirt anyways
Since I'm a plant, I don't know much about science and humans haven't done much research on the minds of plants anyways. This makes it hard to explain. My consiousness is spread across the entirety of my cellular structure, but ultimately it all leads back to my roots. It's a very complex network. If, for example, one of my leaves gets torn off, it's easy for me to rebuild that part of myself. In fact, when I drop my leaves during the fall, I retract my consiousness from them in advance. But if my roots get hurt, recovery may be difficult or even impossible and even if I survive, I may be a completely different plant (as in "person", species-wise I'd still be a berry bush)
